Cousin Nut for dahlias after last chance of frost and when soil temperature is 70F. If soil is colder they will be slow to start. You can cheat by diging the holes in advance and letting the sun warm up the soil.
What have you ordered for spring 2009 - Part 6
my rarefind order arrived today. i post pics tomorrow - the jm shigitatsu sawa is perfect. also received 3 zenobia, two bill's dwarf fothergilla, glowing embers hydrangea, and 3 little honey hydrangea - i only ordered two and they did not send the painter's palette hydrangea - a mix up - all is well though painter is on the way and i get to keep the little honey!!
i also needed to stop a HD today and start lugging bags of sand for the patio project. somehow a 4 ft. blue atlas cedar came home with me - been wanting one forever and it was not expensive.
4 ft. blue atlas cedar's run fast, most likely beat you home. ^_^
as long as it beat my better half - although these stand out so it will be interesting to see how long it takes for her to notice:)
Beautiful packing! If the plants are just as nice as the packing then you've found a keeper!
and tags too! I luv when they send tags!
Only sad part is I placed the order early in the year and they sold out of the 2 Aqulegia Black Barlow.Think I'll plant JI's in there instead.
DH just bought me /us ^_^ these for our Anniversary next month.

lol. we cross posted!
You'll love the Satomi, Celeste. One of my faves.
I have the pink 'Iceberg'---too shady though where I have it now---thinking about moving it---keep us posted on the burgundy one.
Great purchases, you guys! Allison, that mini garden kit looks fun!
Karen
thanks!... I can't wait to plant it
jen now that i have 3 i'm not sure where little honey will go - it will take sun to partial shade. i was planning to put 2 with other oak leaf's which i will do - the third may go with some red jm's
Its 4:30 AM so not light enough for a picture of the plants that are a bit of a disapointment. The Baptisias are dorment, so thats OK
But the Foxgloves are in question as to viability. If they thrive in a few months, I 'll tale back my critisizm.
There were 18 negatives on GW. over the limit for my patronage, but I was so impressed w/pack I went ahead and gave them a positive for the timely ship and pack.
I would not put the Honey in full sun. Part shade (AM sun) is probably best.
that's where the little honey's will go - in fact i'm glad i called RF because they told me to protect them for a while as they were greenhouse grown and need some hardening off.
The plants look OK, Jo Ann---give them some time. I received kalmia 'Raspberry Splash' & lilac 'Little Boy Blue' from Klehms----very nice!
The Klemm's Song sparrow order is here, probably came yesterday as it was found by the garage this morning. I wish UPS didn't do that sort of thing with plants. Very good sized plant of Sedum 'Xenioc' sp? and 'Blue Ice' mini hosta just straring to break ground. I love the minis.
I have Xenox sedum, just came from forest farm I have one from Eminence gMeadows comming also. They wanted 13.00 so I ordered one form them.
Its going to look fabulous with Twilight Prairy Blues Baptisia
The only other sedums I have are Autumn Joy & Frosty Morn--it doesn't really have a stable variegation.
Iris! I believe the Xenox is very dark almost black.
Ugh - looks like my worst fears about my large (about 30 ft) J. maple out front are being realized. Still showing no signs of buds. Not only is it a great tree and the focal point of the front, but i have underplanted it with six JM's and a bunch of other shade/pt shade plants, including hydrangea, hostas and hellebores.
Well that stinks!
Yes it does. I used different words.
Oh no Victor :(
dark sedum would be nice. the position it is in is more rocky than I thought underneath the ground so may have to rescue it. Nice sized plant though.
NICE!!!... Garden Harvest Supply offered me 10% off my next order because I commented about them in the watchdog!!!
Would you get it even if it was a negative comment?!!
To rub salt in the (tree) wound, I found deer damage today - including all the blooms on one of my favorite viburnums.
That is so awful about your maple! I'm feeling your pain here.. with a weeping cedar that I planted two years ago. It is that dead orange color from the nasty winter we had here. : (
Sorry to hear that, Meredith.
