What have you ordered for spring 2009 - Part 6

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I really miss the garden at the old house. I had many OP's.
My DD#3 is getting divorced and they have to sell the house. so she is moving plants to a neighbors until she finds where she will settle.

Thomaston, CT

Every time our son suggests we sell our place & move nearer to him, all I can think of are my plants! Probably selfish, but I don't want to live any closer than I do now!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Its tougher to leave plants than any other thing I can think of.
Robin I even saw a really teeeency flower on the epimedium. Do youknow the name of the variety?

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I just got my Brent and Beckys order in, it was small compared to some other bulb orders...lol. I ordered 2 lilies (10 bulbs altogether): 'Kentucky' was one variety, the other is 'Dot com.' I also ordered 5 different dahlias...all of the dark leaved ones, like: Bishop of Landoff, Fascination...etc. The dahlia clumps were ginormous!

I've started to get my daylily orders in also. I received 4 daylilies from our very own Mary Jane Meadows (I believe her DG name is Bubbles) I paid/ordered 2, and she sent 2 bonuses! I also got a nice order in from a man on the LA. Again, much larger than what I was expecting. I ordered 3 DL's from this seller, all were SF's, except for 1 which was a DF...ALL of the DL's that he sent were TF's, even the bonus!

So, out of the about 50 or so DL's that I have coming to me, I got 4 in! Woot!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

my wife would like to move to a home with flatter ground and less stairs in the house - i've already told her that would be ok under one condition - this house is not sold until i move ever tree, bush, plant and rock to the new place - any other option is not negotiable

South Hamilton, MA

WFF order arrived--'nice hot package in UPS truck' according to DH. Instructions to harden off outside--ha ha ha !!!! Tabasco coleus growing--probably should pinch back. 2 Fanel astilbe & 3 candy stripe phlox..

Thomaston, CT

If the flower opens up pink, Jo Ann, it's rosea---if it opens yellow, it's sulphureum, if it opens white, I have no idea! I brought several stems of the pink into art class today ---I drew for 2 hours, & still did not get the look I wanted--it's a very airy, delicate blossom.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Wha, Will you take "The Wall" with you too?

We got home today from our trip. All good here with tons of bulbs in bloom when we got in this afternoon. Too much wind to take many pictures. I had a couple of coop orders at the PO when I got back. Hosta from eflower coop that were perfect. and some perennials that would have been happier if they hadn't spent a week end at the PO, but I think they will rally. I got some amazingly well grown dianthus from a coop too today. Monster plants. And a nice box of lily bulbs. I get my next ridiculously large order of my ilex and hamamelis tomorrow and a crab apple. Patti

1 Hamamelis mollis Wisley Supreme' 30"
1 Hamamelis x intermedia Jelena' 36"
1 Hamamelis x intermedia Sunburst' 24"

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks Robin I'll check w/ magnifier when the sun comes up.
I do love the look of the plant ,the flowers are insignif. as far as I'm concerned. I have another epimed ordered from Eminence Meadows "Dark Beauty" with chocolate leaves in spring.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Welcome back Patti.
DD planted the 3 witchazels on Sat.
I also have Jelena, Wisley supreme and Westerstede I was really pleased with the size of the trees.
Is your perennial co-op order from the Perennial co-op that offered Poppies,Baptisia, and Day Lilies? If so I'm going to look for my stuff.
Garden Crossing order comes FedEX this AM.
I will also be digging plants at the neighbors. Probably going to turn down the spiderwort so there wont be more than 2 or 3.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

patti - yes the wall comes with me:)

welcome back - how did your little jm's do while you were away? i have one that lost its leaves due to my neglect and the hot weather that has just left.

the wh i received are also in the ground as of two days ago. they look great!!

I order for this darn cold to go away. Its been a week now. I swear I have not had a cold in 4-5 years. I am sick of it ! I am more than willing to give it away for free. I might even offer a few bucks if someone takes it off me and dont give it back.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Welcome back, Patti. Glad you had a great visit.

No, thanks, Sherrie. I have my own AGAIN, thank you. 5th one since the fall. 'cept this time, I think mom has a touch of it. Surely hope not. We will watch her closely. At least she isn't coughing like I am.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Glad you were able to have a vacation before the orders came! You will be planting forever! Are those DLs from PollyK? I'm still waiting for the landscaper to get back to me with a quote for my new DL garden---He said he could have it done in 2 days---he just didn't say which month! Hope you're feeling a little better, Sherrie---

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Robindog, those are iris from Pollyk's Siberian Iris Garden site, though not all are Sibs. Planting will be easy as we got all the beds cleaned up and ready to plant before we left on vacation. We needed the vacation after all the work we did! I do need to print out the tags today to go with the plants when we pop in the ground. I hope none of them arriving need too much TLC time in the GH, so I can get them all snuggled in for the season asap. I still have a little spring work to do, but the next big job will be the mulching after the final shrub planting. Making cages for the shrubs takes longer than the planting, especially if DH helps by mixing up his soil amendments and pushing the wheel barrel around while I dig and plant. We do hire a couple of guys to help with the mulching job or I would be still hauling mulch in July. We have 25 yards coming soon.

Sherrie, my DH who never gets sick has a cold again too, so I doubt he will be much help with the garden this week. Miserable time to be sick. Feel better soon.

Ge1836, I forgot about a few other orders coming soon, one being an order of about a dozen things from Garden Crossing, too. I can't grow spider wort, as it takes over my world. I have been trying to rid the garden of it for 25 years. I love it in everyone else's garden. I think it adores my sandy soil, and it becomes a real thug for me. But so many pretty ones available, but free being the best! Patti

Next week we dig

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Ge1836, It gets all tangled up in the middle of the DL's and Iris, and comes up in the compost reliable. Thrice warned, but it sure is pretty until it flops over later in the summer. Patti

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I remember that plant.
I'm here to crow about the Garden Crossings order.
My gawd what great plants. Theyre more expensive but they are more mature too.
I have a OP with a bud on it. The boxes are huge that the plants came in all individually in their own sleeves.
I'm beat and will be out of comission for a while.

Jo Ann, these all had sprouts too. I had no choice but plant them!

D-nut, I think bulbs are the easiest things to plant.....just figuring where to put them all took longer than planting. lol

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nice plants!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Ah yes pixie spring placement anxiety which is more a befuddlement for me than anxiety. I will experience that in 23 more sleeps. In the fall I get placement panic which is full blown trauma.

South Hamilton, MA
