an order arrived from Mendocino Maples
eskimo sunset aser pseudoplantanus
jm geisha
there were both pretty small - although hard to find and they had the best price
What have you ordered for spring 2009 - Part 6
nice catch Bill
Nice root mass.
very nice
Your JM shots remind me of a police lineup, Bill! Hee hee.
you mean like your line up at the top of the thread:)
thanks - roots are nice - i was hoping for larger plants though - they were supposed to be 12-18" - the geisha is 12" and the eskimo sunset is about 10"
Well it's appropriate that Geisha is small!!
that's what i said - did not have the heart to tell her she is a dwarf
Are you happy with Mendocino overall? I never ordered from them. Watercan2, who does bonsai, orders from them.
i haven't planted them yet - tomorrow i will and i'll get a better look at those roots - he is a nice guy and calls back - had good reviews on watchdog - still i was hoping for bigger trees not the minimum size.
i'd say if it is a hard to find tree it is worth it - greers had both of these at the same sizes and was more expensive.
Topiary gardens and davidsans might be my go to for now on though.
Did you receive any from David yet?
no he ships next week - i got the prices from him for my order - the 5 gallon was 85 - the two gallon 45 - and the one gallon 35 - so all in all pretty fair prices - i will post the pics
What are you getting from him?
a villa, abigail rose (5 gallon), acontifulium, and one he recommended - berrima bridge a rare one from New Zealand
Wow - New Zealand!
They may be small, Bill, but they look good and healthy. Look forward to seeing the pics of the ones you get from David.
Karen
WOOHOO!!! Looking good.
Nice! Hope to see more pics when they are in & fully leafed out---glad you have the 'Eskimo Pie', Bill, & like it. Pixie---too funny about the lilies. Patti & Karen---I'm surprised your dogs dig---my pointer never does---my wolfhound would dig little spite holes if I left her, my elkhound never dug, either. However, son's wire-haired griffon dug a 4ft deep one a few weeks ago!
A lot of dogs like to dig, but I guess some don't. Actually, I thought they all did. Would be nice to have one that didn't.
Karen
My GSD digs but my Keeshond didn't.
David Austen rose 'Strawberry Hill' arrived today, as did a bunch of dahlias---my garden seems warm enough to plant, but I know colder weather is on the horizon.
Ok, shhhhh don't tell my hubby...
I just ordered from bluestone mexican evening primrose, blue love plant and winky blue and white aquilegia for my yellow and blue garden.
Then I ordered bulbs for fall planting from Brent and Becky's
snowdrop, dwarf iris harmony and katherine hodgkins, crocus, romance and herald, muscari-armeniacum, allium, caeruleum, narcissu-martinette and odorus flore pleno
whew....that felt good!
I'm just getting orders in. I couldnt possibly think of ordering another plant.
What's the deadline for the early discount with B&B? I want to order some too.
5% off placed by 7/1....... 10% off placed and paid for by 7/1 for B&B
Thanks Jen!
No prob.
Am ordering a few DLs from Olallie Farm---Guardian Angel, Powder Pink, & Olallie All Summer.
Just ordered more dahlias cuz they went on sale at Veseys ^_^
I was a bad girl last year and forgot to dig up my dahlias. (ducking d-nuts shoe here)
So I planted some from seed and bought a few. The seedlings are doing great, very excited at how many lived. ^_^
How many did you have, Celeste?
15-20 I cried when I first realized it, lost all my glads too. I just replaced them, before I only had 30, now DH helped me and I have 70!
He likes Glads.
That is a bummer pixie. Dahlias are luvly from seeds and they will make tubers so you can save those this year if you want.
Yes but the beauty of these is they only cost me $1.69 for the seeds.....will not cry if I forget them this time. The glads however, DH might get a bit upset with me if I forget them since he bought me alot this year. lol
We will remind you pixie ^_^
Remind me, too, Cousin Nut! I will be getting some dahlias for the first time this year, and I already gotten many glads. I must dig them all in the fall.
BTW, when is a good time to start planting glads and dahlias here in zone 6?
Oh, last night I placed a big order of seeds with Thompson and Morgan. Almost $100 with the shipping (choke!!!!). Sigh! So much more sowing to do! I still have not sown all the seeds I already have!
Karen
Don't feel bad, I haven't either.
LOL! Guess I'm not the only one. I do a little here, a little there, in between all the other things I have to do. I usually do it at night or on a rainy day when I can't get outside.
Karen
Karen---start planting glads in the middle of May---keep planting them until middle of June. I have about 75 to plant this year!
