Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #96 visit with friends..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm SO GLAD it was fun for you. Bobbins and thread - oh my, oh my!!! Sometimes I'll really want to try something and it just doesn't cut it for me. I suppose that's how we learn though so each time is worth it in some way. I, for one, wish I could paint like you and Betty. I can brush small ceramics (like ornaments) but have never been able to paint a flower or a person. I can follow someone else's pattern for a quilt but can't seem to design my own. I guess that sums up life - some lead and some follow. Congrats again on a job well done. Barb

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I tend not to follow patterns 100%-I have a need to add "me" into everything!!!LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Stacey, love the quilts! I give you an AAA+++!!! Job well done!

Betty, so sorry to hear all the deaths of your family and friends. Seems bad things always happen in 3's?

Laura, so glad to hear from you, sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction to the flu shot!

Betty, does the rain, and dampness in the air affect the dry time on your projects? It does here, seems to take forever to get things dry.

Love the little daffodils!

Barb it's absolutely a process not talent in some of the decorative projects....i.e. bear and bunny table/chair set...basecoat..as long as as one learns shading and highlighting then you are off to the races..must try or one never learns...

Got my flyer for Open House at the painting studio I've been going to for 20 years...lol..more for the friendship than the painting..quite a few projects struck my fancy..a floorcloth, a Muskoka chair-painted poppy (Adirondak for you guys..lol) another portrait in charcoal, then a memory album (all done with folds and scrapbooking paper, little ribbons to include photo's, saw Carole's and loved it and a genesis oil class for a sunflower...she hides the projects until open house, smart cookie..lol..will have to wait till weekend after Easter to see them all...as for the portrait, I saw a photo of a little girl, probably 2 years old, she's just beaming from ear to ear..it's a member who is on the Canadian thread..I would love to paint her for the experience..I'll have to d-mail Ann and ask...can't hurt to ask right?

Victoria Harbour, ON

It does affect it..if you ask Stacey she'd tell you I have a hairdryer sitting at each table as to help the projects dry...if it's a finish coat i.e. urathane or varathane, those I simple put near a furnace grate and let dry slowly..

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Yup-more dryers than a hairdresser!!LOL

Stacey, can you post a photo of the feeder here, don't think we saw it on this thread and some don't travel the threads..lol

tks

Betty, sounds like you are going to sign up for more classes?

Oh, the quilts are so beautiful! You all are so talented.

Well, I got the pattern, beads, and shirt for my first beaded clothing project. I'm going to separate the beads while my students type memos. 2 more days until Spring Break. I'll be out tomorrow because Journee's having her tonsils out. So, I guess I really only have one more day until Spring Break! YES!

DH decided to compliment me yesterday. He said I looked very nice and sexy. I almost fell on the floor! I just never know what he'll do or say! Is it mind games again? Who knows? Hate to think he's toying with me. I do still love him and do want the man back that he used to be. Just need time, I guess.

My student, Shane, is still in critical condition. He had part of his lung removed last week because of a fungal infection. They are amputating his left leg today. It was damaged in the accident, but they hae been waiting to do something about it because of the weak condition of his lungs. Shane is also sedated because he fights all the tubes and such when he is awake. Please continue to pray for him. He is such a fighter!

I will talk to y'all later because I have 2 students who are squabbling. love, julie

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So sorry to hear about the student, going through so much! Sending prayers for a very fast recovery time!
Was it an auto accident? I don't recall hearing about it?

Ocean Springs, MS

Yes, it was an auto accident. He fell asleep on his way home from Mardi Gras (Feb. 23). It was touch and go for the first few days. He is somewhat stable now, but still very critical. When they did wake him up, he was just in a panic. Did not recognize anyone or anything, but the doctors said that was good because at least it showed brain activity. They are keeping him sedted now to hel his lungs heal faster. One collasped on impact and the other collasped later in the hospital. He has a very long, slow recovery ahead of him. His friends are keeping a close vigil but I think they expected him to make more progress by now. They are very upset about his leg being amputated, but I told them to think of it as a life-saving operation. His body will heal much faster once the diseased leg and foot are gone. And losing a foot will now slow Shane down at all once he makes his recovery!
love, julie

Break time, lol, you'd almost think I work for a living! NOT....

Liz, nice to see you post..is it sunshine in California today? Have you been working regular hours?

LindaKay, bet your bags are packed and waiting at the door..won't be long now will it...you dad must be excited...

Julie, sorry to hear about Shane, sounds as though he's a fighter, fighting for his life..will add him to my prayer list..how is his parents coping with all of this, do you know them?

Making things work has a lot to do with getting back to the basics, arrange a 'date night' , compliment each other, bite your tongue when you want to be negative, only express the positive...perhaps he's trying...I love the name Journee...

Do you teach typing?

Paul is in the city until Monday, Suzanne has to leave in the next 5 minutes for the city, Cindy just left, wore a hospital mask in order not to spread her germs..not well at all so gone home..LeeAnn is out at lunch..going to pick me up Kentucky Fried chicken so I'll just eat in..rain has stopped, guess I could have gone and entertained myself at Garden Gallery...saving my $$$ though for Washington trip..lol

Soooo how can I get into trouble painting...yesterday I was bsecoating and something wasn't right..I thought perhaps I had reversed the pattern..took it out and nope, did it right...today I'm doing the last of the basecoating and realize that the painting book artist made the error..the sketch line she provides is opposite to the way she painted..drats, had I know i could just have reversed the pattern and each of the wood pieces...it's not a BIG problem, just means the brain has to focus a little more as to where the shading/highlighting is..you always think its you and not the artist...

I doubt I'll ever make the same but I'll make a note in the book incase someone else decides to make a set....

Although I slept for many hours last night, I can hardly keep my eyes open..maybe this afternoon will have a 'nap' hour in it...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Wow, sorry to hear about the bad accident, but sounds like he is a strong fighter. I will add him to the list of prayers!

Make sure you post pictures of your beaded shirt, would love to see it when finished.

Laura I completely understand the issues. If you do need my help just let me know. Unfortunately I'm just a secretary right now and because of the economy can't get promoted but after it gets better I should be able to, so I'm loosing everything I learned 3 years ago, makes me want to cry.

Nice pics and quilts. I didn't know that sewing machines also embroidered now! hhhmmmmmmmm makes me think lol!

Well I'm attempting to work today, but that's not working very well at all. It's nice outside, like 70 degrees today.

I have a stack of filing to do, I don't feel like filing but I guess I will lol! Can't do any work until I get someone's computer info, so pptttthhhh.

Luv U All!!

Yes Betty when you cull you throw the plants away. I am naming it LA LA right now for Lalambchop so I don't forget where I got it from but won't put a name to it til I let it grow for a couple of yrs til it stalelizes. It is in the daylily forum about 10 down. It shows a little red daylily on a white background. It is a ploidy which means three big petals and three sharp petals. Hi all. HUGS BEV

Tubby, I had a big bucket tip over and end up by the fence, but of the stuff I’m personally responsible for that’s all that moved.

We had snow again this morning, I really wish the spring fae (fairies) would get around and start working. It’s way too late in the year for snow here, and I want at least one 70+ day! Even though this year will probably be like last year and as soon as we get nice weather everything will bloom at once and I’ll be down with allergies.

Laura, glad you’re doing better! That’s kind of scary; but more or less the reason I’ve stayed away from the flu shots. It really depends on the person and job, so I’m not telling anyone not to get immunization shots, but I do think we over immunize.

Betty, well on top of the shingles, my neighbor in the other half of the Duplex had a hard sided kiddy pool (as opposed to the ones you blow up) in the backyard. I’m not sure exactly how it got there, might be the reason we lost shingles, but it ended up against the trees in the front yard, diagonally across the house from where it had been.

The house is old and well broken in, I prefer that over a pristine Barbie house like the one I lived in last, but they do seem to be keen on keeping up the structure, even if they let the cosmetics slide.

He might be more interested in following up on the leak due to the fact that he had to replace the floor in much of the bathroom after we moved in due to moisture getting into the floor boards, but I can’t imagine he knew about that before the walk through or it would have been fixed earlier.
