Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #96 visit with friends..

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All;

Goodness I read everyones notes and go through all these emotions...sorry about this....wonderful about that....then when I get to the end...

I forget who did what and all. But I promise I have experienced it through your comments...

Trisha - glad you're getting eye checked....that is worrisome.....Julie - you seem stronger today, glad to hear it! I guess what Betty is saying....the old saying that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger....

I've had times in my life where I allowed someone to consume my mind with anger. It is a huge relief when you finally get to a point where you let it go. I think at that time many years ago, keeping a journal helped me...

Hey perhaps this is like a "Journal for Friends"!...

Today DH & I found this temporary style nursery at the Mall.....he picked out a funny looking thing but I liked it. Called a pencil, from California, some kind of succulent.... I picked out a lily but nothing was marked so not sure what kind.

Heading to check other stuff but I'll be back in a bit.

Hugs to All,
Mary

PS: Sharran - I am so dumb...when you said you did articles 'sometimes' I thought the one you sent me was an old one, maybe from last year.... You have way more growing than I would have imagined at this time! That is Super !

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

The eye is bothersome, but hopefully not serious.....I had the detached retina 3-4 years ago. This completely different from the symptoms I had then....this is improved from last night....but still annoying.....

On the Job situation, it may take awhile......the web site etc. is stuff they need, but with the economy the way it is they have had to lay off all the part time highschool kids. They are still good shape, but are being careful to keep it that way....and knowing the new boss, while he says probably not in the budget right now, he has been known to come back in a few days or weeks and decide he need it Right Now! At least we have their name in the pot when he starts thinking about it again.....

Julie, I know how you feel....it took me a good 30-35 years to decide I had enough of doing what everyone else wanted.....that I needed to be me and do things I wanted to do for a change.....

Audrey, so sorry the surgery is postponed......but at least they are being cautious....better to not take chances. You can play with clay while you wait!!

Went for a walk in the woods with Laura and Orion yesterday, look what we found!

Sorry for the novel, but there was so much to reply to.

Crissy, I’m almost positive that the problem is on the server end. I’ve had more problems with their new web system; I’ve sent formal complaints/requests to change it three times, two by phone and one long detailed email. As I said it loads just fine from file and I checked the file names, types, etc. several times and reloaded them at least three times.

I thank you for your offer though; I might ask you for help in the future. I’ve been making webpages since around 1996 and actually had a volunteer job doing the Olympia Bike Clubs webpage for a year or so. I also basically taught the html portion of the computer class I took my senior year of high school. My senior project (4 year degree) was a webpage covering our two trips to the UK, history and travel help. I’ve made dad’s webpages since they first went up, here’s his current one http://stevensoncustombikes.com and I’m working on remaking mine and mom’s right now, but it’s a huge project. It currently has 44 html files, a css file and 192 pictures (including the clay pictures I haven’t gotten pages made for yet) and I have the clay, Santa and “other” sections still to go. Then I want to revamp and post the page I made for college.

I’m pretty secure in my design abilities; it’s just the “working” sections like secure online order forms and that type thing that I’d like to apprentice with someone to learn.

Betty, it’s rare that you love your job. If we were going for that mine and mom’s craft company would support us and DH would make custom guitars for a living, but DH currently works in food service (orders and front rather than cooking) and I’m not bring any money in at all since we moved, before that I was doing daycare for two kids across the street, which I’m good at, but wouldn’t say I liked. Though it did allow me to be on here a lot and get paid for it. My ideal job besides the craft stuff would be in a book store or as a librarian. I’d still like to go back and get my M.A. in Library science, which was my plan before I ended up with a husband and step-daughter.

Mom, or if nothing else ride the bus, we could even teach dad how to do that.

One of the jobs doesn’t even exist yet, or at least it’s done by several people when one would make more sense and the one that I’m working was going to be hired out, so we’ll see. The company is currently owned and filled with the owners’ family, so he should be less concerned about having the whole family than dad’s old boss was. If I remember correctly even the owners ex-wife works there.

Julie, we did that a while ago. DSD has basically figured it out and she told me not to put the money there, so I told her I wouldn’t and then DH forgot. She’s only just about 8 (April 22 is her birthday) and she’s already old in someway, and still 5 in others. I wish the responsibility and patience would catch up and pass her actual age.

It’s great that you and your daughter are such good friends; my mom is one of my best friends.

Mary, I write up my response in word while I read, otherwise I’d be going up and down and getting lost all the time. It also allows me to spell check; spelling is not one of my strong points.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I'm hoping that when he sees what I did with his home page it'll turn it into a "we need right now", but if not I'm no worse off than I am right now.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Laura -

It sounds like they need you ! Good idea to type into Word....I will try that next time. I can usually spell but I was trying to spell "journalling" earlier and ended up with a whole different sentence....just too many teachers on this blog to have an error! :) LOL!

11p bedtime...but on here till then....

Hugs,
Mary

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I'd be seriously embarrassed by some of what I type up before spell check. It was actually using the spell check that made me think to type as I go, since I copy/pasted to word, why not just start there.

Baton Rouge, LA

Well - That's a good idea! Are you all settled in then? Does Sage have her room set up?

Mary, the answer is no. With how late I stayed up last night we just ended up running around today. Sage has so much stuff that I'm daunted by it. It's one of the mental issues I have is that sometimes a project just seems to big to start, I can sometimes break it down and get it done by myself, but it's easier with someone else. Mom has the same problem which is why we're trying to help each other with the house stuff we need to get done.

Glenview, IL

Waving...Hi Shar!!

Oh my gosh, i didn't know you have Tillium growing in your yard!!
How exciting is that!!

I remember your article and seeing Trillium for the first time last season!
Oh I was estatic to be able to tell my friend what that beautiful ballerina was! at the Grove!

Hi Judy...no it was I think trillium in Trisha's picture, not sure. I don't have it here, not enough shade.

Here are some phlox on my rock wall.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

And my Japanese painted fern, I love this thing, and worry about whether it made it through the winter every year.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Aside from more of the same, and hyacinths and violets, that's it. All purple too.

Prayers to those of you who are going through health issues, or job issues...I don't post often but I do keep up with sending good thoughts to you.

Hope your tomorrow will be the best.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

The trillium were in the woods near where we babysit a friends little boy...I have one shady area where they might survive in my yard....I'd love to try and transplant some to my shade garden and see what happens....I was so excited to find them on our walk, they are sooo pretty.....

We found some really beautiful fairy habitat also.....love this stump with all the tiny mushrooms...

Thumbnail by zhinusmom
Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Now that is truly beautiful.
You could do that with clay and an old stump. Put buttermilk on the stump and keep it in partial shade so moss will grow.

I hope you get the trillium to grow, it is just too hot and dry here, though they do grow down near the lake in some very shady groves.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I love that stump!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I loved this tree also.....

Night Sharon, headed over to read the next segment then headed to bed myself.

Morning all, loved the photo's of your gardens...
Right now I'm satisfied with greenery..last night I did a walk in the gardens which were raked, don't think the snow did any damage..didn't stay on the ground long..may that have been our last white stuff for this season..

We have trilliums, of course we do it's our Provincial Flower..the bush behind me is full of them, the walkway to school a few houses up has the trillium and Lily of the Valley growing wild...this year I'll dig some lily of the valley and put them somewhere on their own, boy are they invasive...

Must go read the novel Shar..Redwood tree is spectacular..

Off and running again, I've been setting the clock for 6am rather than 5am, makes quite the difference in my morning..will change it back..seems I'm rushing too much..

Trisha/Tubby both Liz and Linda Kay got their butterfly pattern so I'm sure you'll receive yours today...

Paul's out of the office all week, got the bunny and the bear to keep me company at work today and tomorrow..16 hrs. of painting should make a dent in the chair set..

Need to get dressed/pack up and have some breakfast...
Talk later

Pacifica, CA

Betty, I spent the weekend at Stacey's and she finished the three other rag quilts that she wanted to do. She still has to rag and wash them but the sewing is all done. You really got her started right; she took to my sewing machine right away. I still think she likes yours better than mine but she did very well. She picks up things so quickly that I think she will be doing regular quilting without a hitch. Now if I can just decide on a machine myself I can see that she gets mine or maybe one even better for few $.
I loved the kitty bird feeder and can't wait to see it in my yard.

Thanks for the slate...I know just where it will go in my office so I can keep track of things.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Liz, are they the same ducks from a few years ago? wonder how long ducks live? So cute..bet you enjoy feeding them...glad you and Dh are feeling better..surely you didn't go to work feeling that way?

Janice, thought she was saving the kitty for later..couldn't wait to give it to you could she..and yes, she's taken to sewing like duck to water..you best go in search of a machine.. and yes, she learns quickly...most likely because she has an interest in it..how did you like the black/white with silver thread material..did some go home with you?

OMG all those quilts sewn in one weekend, no wonder I'm not seeing her around, she must be so tired as are you I bet..your welcome..not slate though, I painted the blackboard on MDF wood...

Tubby, what did the dentist say...
Any reports Trisha on your eye..

Lordy, we're all falling apart aren't we....
Prayers for all...

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Yes, the black and white and silver did come home with me. I loved it and all the other fabric she picked, too.

I would never have choosen to do as complicated a pattern (on both sides, no less) for the rag quilts as she did for a first project, but she had it all laid out and it went just like clock-work!

Tell me what model Janome machine do you have? There are so many that I can't make up my mind what is best for me. Gotta watch the pocket-book but want nice features, too.

Stacey really like that seam quide on yours, but she bought a little ruler and taped it to the machine and it worked just fine. She also like the triple stitch on yur machine and discovered that mine had it too (I didn't know that!). However, my machine has really tension problems; it is very touchy and gets out of wack very easily. Mostly the top threads.

Have any of the rest of you bought one of the cheap machines and like it? I've seen Singers and even a Janome for $99 or $129. That might be a better first machine for Stacey than my old Kenmore.

Morning All!

Even though I haven't been commenting I have been reading and enjoying most of it. So much going on. Tons of crafts. Some Illness and heartbreak. Beautiful pictures. What a joy to wake up to in the morning!

Life here has just been work and otherwise really boring. A mouse started to eat my plant starts in the basement! Well I set up the live trap last night with crackers and peanut butter and this morning I have caught a mouse! He will be disposed of later. That is my excitement.

Ground here is either frozen or mushy. Still a few clumps of icy snow. Dh raked a week ago.

The birds were just a singing this morning.(outdoor wood stove keeps the house nice and toasty) The bedroom window is open so I can hear them clearly. Yesterday I was trying to get a picture of the 3 Killdeer that are coming in the yard. They just chatter to each other. My camera is not good enough and they blend in so well this time of year.

Liz love the ducks that come to the store for a handout! Sorry you have been sick. Was worried about you. Work is the same. Just fewer hours most of the time. I do take extra if they are offered. So I worked all weekend. The store was crazy this weekend. I was going in circles putting stuff back where it belongs. Almost got dizzy and I can do that very well on my own.

The stump with mushrooms is beautiful. Now I will have to go and look when it dries again. But it is too early here.

Sharran If the Japanese fern lives here I would think it would thrive at your place!

Jude you are even more busy now that you are at home! I bet you feel good being able to take time to figure out what you want to do. Learning to cook! What fun!

Trillium are illegal to transplant and pick here. Years ago they were almost picked to extinction. Unless it was something told to us kids so we wouldn't pick them!

I need to go and find some breakfast. Maybe oatmeal with apple pie jam!

Here is a picture from last fall.

You all have the day you need!

Morning everyone. Wow, everyone is so busy!
Just wanted to pop in to say hello, and let you all not to eat any pistachios. Read this article I found today!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not sure what happened but lost my post...AGAIN..

Vicki, as always it's a pleasure to see you post..

Trillium picking is a no/no here as well, at one time they were almost extinct..not good when it's your Provincial Flower..I've seen a few in different colors, deeper pink then white..perhaps it's the soil...

Did you know that usually if trilliums grow so do MURRELS..my cousin, grandmother and Aunt would make a day of it early spring..Linda and I try each year to continue this tradition..always nice walking in the bushes..back then life was simple, now when I walk the bushes I'm always thinking I might find a body! Isn't that terrible...

Sounds as though Vicki even though your hours are cut that you are putting in more hours through o/t..it's nice they have someone to depend on..

Thought of you the other day..was in the $$$ store, picked up a few items that as I walked around wondered why on earth I needed them, rather than just sit them somewhere, back to their original aisle they went..aren't you proud of me...lol...didn't realize until you mentioned it just how much time is spent by staff picking up and re-setting items...

A plant eating mouse..oh my, not sure I could take a mouse out of a trap and throw it away, likely the trap would go with it...

Your wood stove, you say it's outside...how does it warm the inside...

Yesterday morning on my way to work was stopped at a light, something must have startled a flock of birds..lordy had to be hundreds in a tree..thought I was part of the 'birds' movie..not sure what kind as I had to concentrate on driving...

Apple jam, you make your own do you not?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought I'd press send before I lost another post..I know, should really do it in word right....

Janice, I think my machine is a Janome 9000, been about 18 years since I bought it, at that time it was worth an arm and a leg, nowdays I'm sure they are next to nothing, well almost..

As for those little machines, Stacey saw the one that Darlene bought me, tried it on the weekend and it works fine..might be a good starter machine..cheap, a throw away but for what Stacey is doing right now, learning, one of them would be perfect..lordy that machine I got if you can believe it, has 54 different stitches, think she only paid something like $70....Should have had Stacey buy one while she was here..would have meant about $50. in USA funds...

LindaKay, thanks for the article..no pistachios for me...
You sound busy today, are you out cutting butterflies...

Morning has passed quickly, I've started the chair set..nice that the actual bunny and bear comes in 3 flat pieces then attached to the chair..going to be P R E T T Y!!!

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Morning All..Up early read all..SHEEES I fill lucky so many sick.. Best of health to ya all..

Dr say top teeth are in bad shape "on inside".Top dentures in the future. Hard to say when.
Bottoms are okay..Sparkling clean now after cleaning..LOL Julie said they weren't bad..Said I was doing good job brushing, I can't get into flossing, Do it but not regular..Julie is dental hygienist..

Then went shopping...UGH..NOW let me tell you I would rather be working..I was so tired..Defiantly a woman's work..LOL

Will pick up new stove Thursday..Shirley can cook 4 whole chickens "2 on top rack 2 on bottom rack"
And pie on center rack..Ya think that is enough for 2 people..LOL Bottom drawer is a warming drawer.
She really like that feature..5 burners on top, center one is a warmer only..
Shirley is happy so Tubby is happy..LOL
That goes hand in hand right..LOL

I perked up at Menards..LOL
$500 later I was tired again..LOL

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Yes Betty very proud of you! LOL Some days there is so much to put back it is an excercise program in itself! When we were hiring- when the manager tells people what all they have to do as a clerk they kind of turn the job down! They seem to think all we do is stand at the cash register.

Betty I am very careful not to touch the mouse or even look at it if I can help it. The woodstove heats the house and DH's garage and out water. It does a very good job. Except when it is very cold and windy then any place is cooler and harder to heat. I keep forgetting to ask him if we have burned the same or more. We do burn more on certain windy days as it sucks it right out the chimney.

Better get back to the dreaded paperwork! The morning is just flying by!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Noon already, yes the morning is flying by...poor Suzanne just left for the city, she also has to go for the next 3 days...she left about 1/2 hr. ago, Paul called for her so he then called her on the cel..she was going to Toronto office before Trustees office to get a check for a proposal..Paul argued he'd given it to her (Pauze trait) so back to the office she came, checked several fines and in the safe while Paul was on the phone reminding her of the conversation they were having when he gave her the cheque...finally Suzanne (Paul's her brother) told him to calm down, GO check his briefcase..he said he'd done that 2 times, she said GO check again, guess where the cheque is, yep his briefcase...he said to her (his way of apologizing) 'it's right where you put it!...drats, now she's running late..

Do you find Vicki that type of heating system works well? must or you wouldn't have it right? Hope the mousetrap is in an area you don't have to look at until DH throws him out..yuk...with 2 kitties in the house, not much chance of mice..

Not that hungry, not sure what I'll do for lunch..might pick something up and just sit here and continue painting...lol

Hard Day isn't it???

Tubby sounds like quite a stove, Shirley must be excited...
Glad to hear you got good reports from the dentist..guess he wants to wait until your treatments are complete before getting you set up for top dentures... do you have trouble eating with the teeth as they are?

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Just got a call from Aline checking to see if my doors were open..Tom (DH) is going to my house, taking reforming the closet door support and making me my door for faux panel..exciting...better paint like the dickens and finish this project because this weekend if the panel is in I can take it off and be creative...

Yesterday Mike dropped in and left a beautiful door, casing and door knobs..not sure where it will go but I'm sure he'll know where he wants to install it..

Lordy I just let them go at it..have to have patience for some things, then all of a sudden these hubbies arrive and the construction starts...lol..

I thank the Lord each and every night for the donderful friends I have....

Not sure what I will do once all the house has been redone, am sure to find something...

Sitting here looked at the magazine in which the project I'm painting is in..they have the cuttest little piece for flowers.. should really have one..right? I've the 4 posts, I've the energy, just need a few pieces of wood..let me see if I can use the labtec camera to take a photo...

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Vicki mouse barbecue..LOL

Betty my treatments.(meds) are for ever..Like taking pills only in the vein.
If he waits for them to be over he would be doing them post mortum..LOL

Yes Shirley is happy..It don't have all the bells & whistles..Medium price range. But nice..
The more bells, the more to go wrong. We did buy the extended warranty. We have that on every thing.
It's paid for it self on frig" new freezer door & a mouse in fan HA", washer"new drum & pump",vacuum"tune up",water softener"clean debris in valves" , & my large table saw"new motor, pulley, belt & they have serviced it 3 times that remember Ajust & set, I know some folks don't believe in extended warranty's..But they have sure been to our benefit..

I understand Paul's frustration , Women always put stuff where we can't find it..LOL

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Betty a wonderful heating system. I so hate it when something is lost and there it is where you already looked a dozen times. Will be waiting to see how the door turns out!

Tubby do you have a picture of the stove? Just realized mine is 10 years old already.

This is part of the yard yesterday. Not anything to see yet!

Hey Betty, no I am not working on the butterflies yet. I hope to get some wood, and workon them next week.
I am getting ready for a week end trip to Tucsan, Arizona. I have a great Aunt that lives there, I have never met, and I have never been to Arizona. So my Dad wants to go and see the only only child left of that family of 13 kids. So we are getting things ready to get packed, and Friday morning, we will take off. It is a major job, just geting my dads meds, and stuff packed for a trip! I think it will be a nice road trip!

Look what amazon.com has for sale. Don't know if it is what you are looking for, but they seem to be pretty cheap.
