Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #95visit with friends..

Baton Rouge, LA

I def know DH has selective hearing! :) HA!

Cardiff, ON(Zone 4a)

Crissy, thanks for posting all those pictures of your shelter - very cool.

Betty, that would be so cool if Greg got the contract, he does heating systems etc. right?

School started today and it's amazing how much I got accomplished. I get so much more done when Keith isn't here - he's such a big distraction. Keith has a conference that he needs to go to next week in Toronto. He'll be taking the train out and renting a car and we were discussing having the kids and I go with him. We had basically decided that if the ice road was still in decent condition (ie the taxis were still running) we'd go. It looks really good so far, it should be cold enough this next week to keep the river good. Now I just need to psych myself up for a long trip with the kids.

I better get to bed now. I got used to staying up late during the March Break but I have to be good now.

Morning Betty. Are you going through with-drawals yet, with no craft buddy to share your ideas with? Just keep posting all your crafts here, I for one enjoy reading everyday what your up to.
I know you had a great time with Stacey. I hope she made it home OK, I have not seen her posting yet?
LK

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay, no withdrawals, got a good nights rest and looking for someone else to come and visit...yes I am..so enjoyed it..Stacey did arive home around 3 or 4, perhaps she was tired and still in bed..lol

I'm energized again, mid week I'm always thinking of what my weekend 'to do' list will entail..

Could be some raking but just can't..too early..

Fabricland does have beautiful flannel on sale for $3.00 a meter (39") which is almost a tiedie look..want to make 2 grandsons a rag quilt so perhaps that might keep me busy..

Tonight my girlfriend Aline and her hubby Tom are visiting..they were to have come over Monday night but got company..he's going to make me a door for the washroom linen closet out of 1" dressed plywood so I can do a trompe l'oeil painting same as I did at the farm...make it look like shelving, 4 or 5 shelves..have towels, dish cloths on one, another might be such things as soap dish, shampoo, curling iron, comb etc.
Hated to leave me cupboards, lol, when I moved from the farm so if Tom has the door made by the weekend what a fun project I'll have...

My life seems so boring doesn't it, gardening, painting, crafting..lots of friends though but not normally anything spectacular, just every day living so I must bore you at times...

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Betty, so glad you gave Stacey her first sewing lessons. I promised her my machine so I had an excuse to get a new one but now I wonder if mine isn't too tame for her. The newer machines can do so much more than mine, even the cheapest ones.

I still haven't decided what kind of machine I want. Looked at a Janome that I really liked but it was the first and it was more than I wanted to pay. I need to spend time at my local quilt place since they have a number of different models. I have been saying I don't need all the bells and whistles like embrodiery but, then, that might be fun! What do you have and did Stacey like using it?

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure she'll be thrilled with your machine Janice..the thing that made Stacey at ease with sewing was the ability to key it into slow motion sewing..so that when an individual first starts to sew their having to watch the material and keep speed from running away with them it makes it enjoyable, a no stress experience...but before her project was finished she had turned up the speed, quite comfortable with the sewing..

I do enjoy my embroidery and also have the computer scanner for it, where I can scan a photo and it is turned into an embroidery pattern..probably early types and things have changed..sometimes you think you'll never use this component on the machine but if you have it you fall in love with it..was telling Stacey the Janome is 'idiot proof' very easy to use..Stacey had to turn it on, change a pattern and sew..she had watched me key in several stitches and was able on her own to do same..but I'm sure all new makes/models do similar things...and really other than embroidering something special on the quilt, straight sewing is all she needs at this time and is looking forward to your machine.so best you continue looking for a new one..lol...

No signs of Stacey, she doesn't have Betty to wak her up at 7:00..

Glenview, IL

Good Morning.

It's a nice sunny brisk day today.
I have a friend coming for a visit. Not sure what we might get into.
But We decided a once aweek coffee time for us to visit will be nice.
She is a gal from work.

Trisha, how is your friend? I hope she is well enough to go home.

Hi Gilli, wow, it will be nice to get away for a little bit. I remember the days when packing everyone up was such a big chore...Well, I hope you will be able to go on the trip and have a wonderful time.

Hi Wonderhug...wow, that sounds real nice to get things fixed up. Sounds like puppy is doing well, making big messes, lol just like having kids around. How is your Grandbaby? Is she walking around yet?

OH Betty, life isn't boring if you are enjoying the crafts, gardening and all your friends. Just seems boring because now all the sudden your back to those things by yourself. hmmm...Hey if no one else wants the last pattern I'll take it off your hands and attempt it. Will look nice againt my big compost bin !

Wish, my Steve luck, he is taking a big test, on roofing so he can obtain a builders permit for roofs.
Had to be at the testing site by 7:00 so waiting for that.

So Yesterday, went to Menards for some soil, picked up an Heirloom Hybrid Tea Rose!! I am so excited to also report, that my baby rose made it throught the winter!! Stems are greening up, so with any luck maybe she will bloom for me this year.

Ves, what did you get started indoors? I got some soil so want to start some Canna, DH suprised me with tree bulbs, so planning on starting those today.Plus I still have seeds from last season so will get those in soil as well. We shall see, i always seem to start them too soon.

Well, not much else to report...OH Trisha, I started the wee door last night!! I love this polymar, easy to squish and start over, lol. I think i will cash in some change and get some more clays before the sale ends...I am excited and patiently waiting to see who you will create next!
And I got to tell you, I adored yhe picture you placed behind the door. Question for you, because this book does not say the thickness of wire used, so want to share the sizes you chose? Please.
Got to go and get the hinges and i am set to go.

Well, I best get some breakfast.

Betty, what are you working on today? Or you still resting from the weekend? LOL.

Stacey, are you home???

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Yipee! Wayne's coming over tonight! He's bringing me some money, ('cause I ran out) so I can get gas to go see the dr. tomorrow!
Gonna work on my flannel pieces today. Maybe I'll get some sewed! I'm at a standstill with my quillow, no backing! I have some flowers to repot, and a rosebush to plant, and someone got my shovel! One more thing to buy!
It's a beautiful sunshiny day, here, 50* at 9:20, after a night of rain and wind!
LK, Wanda's mother has alzheimer's, it's just starting, but it's about to wear Wanda out! She has 2 brothers, and you know how that goes! No help! We've been discussing nursing homes, as this is steadilly getting to much for her to handle. If she can hang in a little longer, her mom might not even notice she's there. Not like with your dad. My mom wanted to go to a nursing home, but they let her get a bed sore that I think was eventually the cause of her death. If you put him in one, be sure to check his backside often, I wouldn't have thought of it!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Judy, sending the best of luck to Steve for his test! I know he wil pass it with flying colors.
Betty, I can't wait to see the doors you get installed and painted.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

If I decide to put my dad in a home, it will most likely be in Michigan. I persoanlly know too many nurses here, and they all say horrid things about what does not happen in them. They don't pass out meds on a regular schedule, and proper treatment is scarce, because of lack of funds. The nurses I know are always complaining, because the boss makes them do other things, before they can take cares of patients. Just last month, there was an article in the paper, that one home had 12 official complaints agianst it, in the past 3 months. That is not good! Because most of them are on medicare or medicaid, Most Dr.s won't see them, because they won't get paid!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Temps are dropping here, can feel the cold..

Just went on Michaels and printed a flyer...I do like the charcoal picture I did of paul's grandson but felt the frame was too big..so a thought came to me this morning, why not bring the frame with me to Michaels and see what they have that is close to same but smaller..that's my 'today' challenge...

Judy, should get my sketch pad out and play, Paul will not be in this week and likely not until late next week...he's in the Toronto office getting ready for a big Mortgage company show so much on his mind..that leaves idle...I must bring in genesis heat set oils tomorrow though and do some homework on my table panel...other than that, boring!

Now how much fun will that be to get together with a work friend from time to time..I'm sure you'll find something to entertain her..prayers for Steve..may he get his permit..am sure he will, he's quite the builder...

Gillian, hope you do get to come home for a week or so..yes Greg works in commercial heating and refrigeration..he's the boss and does all the bidding on jobs..not sure why, but Kyle said he had to have the bid ready in about a day and he figured it was almost a weeks worth of designing..hoping his firm gets it...know that they've moved to other work i.e. for hospitals, washing vats for equipment washing in stainless steel, replace at sick children's hospital in Toronto much of the arm rests etc. in pools so diversifying for sure..I reminded him that he had met you..I would imagine if they got the contract he'd go up with the men..he usually travels with them to make sure everything is done to specs...

Linda Kay, I so admire you for looking after your father..not an easy task I'm sure...it hurt us to have to put grandma in a home, we made a solemn promise that each of us would pick 1 day a week to spend with her...I chose Saturday because I worked..I would get my hair done at 8am then off to the home..must say she enjoyed being there, made friends, lots of recreation for her and then with all her family visits she didn't long to be in her own home..she would tell me each time I visited that no one in the family dropped in..so finally I bought a journal, attached a pen on a string and everyone who visited was asked to make an entry..often she'd say no one was there and I'd get the book and read all the wonderful things in it, she'd smile and say 'I think you just make all of this up so I'm not sad!' lol I'd show her the different hand writtings and she'd shrug..a lot of Saturdays I'd take her out for lunch, shop..funny, being 99 she remembered the price of everything in her day..she'd look around and wouldn't purchase a thing, thought it was far too expensive, but then, she'd see me looking at something and want to treat me and not blink at the price..odd it was...such a dear woman, I so miss her..guess that's why I do so much for my grandchildren, I was shown the same kindness and love from mine!

I'm sure LindaKay you'll know when it's time that you no longer have the strength to have him with you..not an easy decision to make..prayers for you 'sweetie'

Audrey, working on that rag quilt should keep you out of mischief for sure..do you have yourself a comfy area so you are not irritating your knees?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sad state of affairs isn't it LindaKay when the economy dictates poor health coverage and care for the elderly...that should come first...(especially as I'm heading there)..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yes, that is pretty sad, There are several family Dr.'s here talking about stoppint seeing patients with medicare, because they only get paid pennies on the dollar.
Very das!

That shouldn't be legal should it?

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Sorry I am late-did get up at 9:30, but after going through threads and dmails, it toom me a while to get here...Wow-those pics of me are NOT flattering:( Oh well-in my craft cltohes, barely brushed my hair or teeth, so oh well.....I did have so much fun!! Betty showed me some tricks of the trade that I can use and practice with, so now I can get some stuff at the $$ store to practice on:) And I LOVED her machine-Janome Memory craft-so neat with all it's little nuances-it has the triple stitch that was nice and the measure guide for seams-perfect!!

Betty-I found some paper on a roll in your tool room and traced out a butterfly pattern for me and one for LK-I assumed that was OK as we forgot to do that and I figure I can get some tracing paper here to transfer them onto....there was such a large roll of paper, didn't think you'd mind....

I did get stopped and searched at the border-guy was nice and all, but asked me all kinds of ??, like Betty's name, her address, how I met her, which things I made/which I bought, searched all my bags-he didn't search my duffle thank god as someone going through my dirty socks and underwear would not have been nice...asked me if the car was mine, how many times I had been across the border, I was surprised he didn't ask me my shoe size and date of my last cycle!!LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not a problem about tracing paper Stacey..only thing, I just sent on bristle board the pattern to LizRainey, AnnMarie,LindaKay and Tubby..Judy mentioned she'd like to try one so could you mail it to her rather than LindaKay...

OMG that was a lot of questions but they do have to ask..did he ask to keep one of your treasures? Hey, you can't be crafting and sightseeing and looking like a fashion plate..lordy I didn't even comb my hair for almost 2 days..lol.. more important things to do...

What did your hubby have to say about your projects..was he enthused, am I picking up material 50% off on Saturday (giggling here)...

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

He was what I expected him to be-"those are nice babe, now what are you goign to do with them"!!LOL He did like the material for the dining chairs-I do still LOVE that other material!!! The border guy didn't ask to keep a treasure-but I was a little freaked when he asked me to turn off the car, hand him the keys and open all the doors and back hatch-then to open all the bags and remove the items:(

Here is the material I got everyone-the greens are for my rag quilt, the black is for my dahlia quilt and the brown is for the dining room chairs

And here is the stuffies I bought:)

Hi All
I just got off the phone with a girl from where Betty works..LOL

Betty calls her boss Mon. morning and tells him that she is staying home because she is not feeling well.

" So, what's the matter Betty?" he asks .

"I have a case of anal glaucoma," Betty says in a weak voice.

" And what the heck is anal glaucoma?"

"I just can't see my butt coming into work today."

ROFLOL

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

that was cute:)

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sounds like Betty and Stacey had so much fun!!!! So many cool projects!!

Judy, best thoughts going to Steve for his test...
Do you mean the wire mesh that goes between the layers.....it is a package of Modeling and Sculpture mesh that I get in a package at Michael's....what I am looking for for future use is just plain old window screen wire....just anything like that to give the piece strength and keep it from breaking.......for the hinges I just used some light weight wire I had hanging around in my craft room......next time I may even get some tiny nuts and bolts...I hate working with the wire on the hinges.....

This sore throat is still giving me fits....and I have to take Laura out for her MRI this afternoon.....so I am looking through the books and websites....haven't made up my mind (what little mind I have today) what to work on next....have a couple of leather projects I have to get done for some customers in the next few days so should get over and get those cut out....then I can finish one set and Laura can do the other...and get that out of the way.....it will give us more Clay Money to play with.....I lucked out and got a 50% Off for JoAnn's so I got one of the big blocks of Beige Sculpey to use for faces etc. Time to start badgering all the neighbors for their coupons....none of them craft so they are usually pretty good about sharing...:)

Doris, out little neighbor lady is supposed to get home today....I sure will be glad when her daughter gets home from vacation...if they are not going to move her to a care facility they really need to get some kind of live in help for her.... or at least someone to keep her company during the days...she is just falling too much and getting too forgetful. She is really good at putting up a good front when the daughter is here for her short daily visit so the daughter doesn't see how bad she is getting.....my Aunt was that way with my cousin....it wasn't until mom and visited and took my aunt with us to stay at my cousins house for two days that he finally how bad she was.....he was shocked when I told him she had been going down hill like that for a year or two...it really is sad.

Well the dog says I have sat here long enough and that we Really Do need to go out NOW...so talk to you all later....

Victoria Harbour, ON

lol..that's about it Tubby..

your material Stacey matches your butterflies...guy that checked you out on your way home was your guy - U.S.A. appointed..lol..always find it easier going than coming back..you weren't sure DH would like chair material, glad he did...

Just got back from lunch, dropped into Michaels - had that 40% off coupon, girl in framing dept. helped me try to find alternate frame/matting but in the end she told me I was too critical of my work..so stays the same and I saved myself some $$$$....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha, saw the wallet you did for Stacey (am I right?) very nice..a leather tanning factory is here in Barrie, should you ever want some different supplies i.e. different hydes let me know..I make a lot of knitted snowmobile 'dickies' which hyde is sewn on the front..can't freeze, warm as can be so I drop in from time to time to see what bargoons they have..lol

Are you taking something Trisha for your sore threat? Hope everything goes well for Laura with the MRI..guess you have to wait several days for the outcome?

Funny how some of the elderly barely know what planet they are on and yet know enough to try and hide just how bad they really are...

Does Joanne's have a website where they list their coupons for you to print off..Michaels' does..just printed a 40% off coupon..

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Tubby, that was a good one!!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

HMMMM....good idea, most of supplies come from Tandy, and even with our Business discount they still aren't cheap.....wish we had a place close by.... Yes I did the Fairy Wallet for Stacey in one of our swaps......

What we do most of here locally is mud flaps to go on the back of bicycle mudguards (fenders) so that the person riding in back of you does not get a face full of the dirty mud and water sprayed up by the wheels....some or plain, some get pretty pictures on them....ours have frogs of course!

Taking all the usual meds and cough drops....from what everyone around here has had look like it just has to run its course....

Thumbnail by zhinusmom
Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha, brainstorm.. by the way those mudflaps are great..have to check how to make them for grandsons...

BUT my brainstorm is, on Friday afternoon I'll go into town to T & G Remnants..Stacey and I dropped in on Monday only to find she wasn't open..she's selling out..Ted died and she ran the business for `1 year and has decided it's not for her, BUT she has some kits/hyde/leather/beeds etc. have to see what is left and let you know and for how much she is selling things..know material is going for a song...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Trisha can you sculpt one of those mushrooms that Stacey brought home with her? Boy that is really cute!!! I have come to the conclusion that my grandsons have no imagination. I asked them for names for the dust bunny. The oldest said Burt and the youngest said Mr Dust. I have decided to name him "Sir Lintalot" and he will always have a place of honor....

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

ROFL....Sir Lintalot....I Like It!!!!

I was looking at Stacey's Mushrooms and thinking I should be able to do something similar to that...those are a Lot easier to make than the ones in the book I have....maybe that will be my project for tonight.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thought Trisha you weren't feeling well and you've been so busy of late, wouldn't it be wise to find a comfortable couch, feet up on coffee table and just enjoy the evening...come on you can do it...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I do most of my clay work on a lap board, in my comfy recliner in front of the telly....clay work IS relaxation and therapy for me.....

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty have you seen Trisha's dust bunnies? I just love my "Sir Lintalot"!!!!

Thumbnail by Quilter5bdsr
Victoria Harbour, ON

He's adorable Barbara...Trisha, much like sketching portraits..having a ball with it..good way to relax..which I'm doing here at work..

Tonight I'm having company for an hour and then I must clean house, don't want to save that for the weekend..much too much fun then to be housecleaning..

I'm not a clean freak but sure don't like animal paws all over the floor...yuk..maybe that dust bunny could help me out! lol

Stacey saw what was under the bed she slept in..more than dust bunnies...lol
