Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #95visit with friends..

Wow, 327 posts ....aren't we chatty...

At work, sitting quietly, RESTING..and boy do I need to rest

Enjoyed reading your posts..
OMG I just know that I would take my chances with the storm versus the underground storm safety unit..couldn't do it..
Guess Crissy your fear of storms outweights the feeling of being burried alive..know it's not like that, most likely it's very comfy, big enough to bring something to do and enjoy the safety aspects of it...

Linda Kay, Ann Marie, will trace the pattern out tonight and post tomorrow..very simple project and yet, a rebar is used as stake..the one I bought had the hole for rebar drilled in the bottom of butterfly body, can see that breaking easily, so simply cut a little block, glued/screwed to back of butterfly..much stronger..

Good Morning!

Anjl, So sorry to hear of your friend. will Keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Speaking of which, Bev, how is GD, is all better? Muscle pain gone, I hope.

Crissy, awe...will keep you in thoughts for good weather.

OMG, Trisha...The little door came out adorable. Yep I be you are getting addicted to those little characters, I know I fell in love with them just in the book...

Wellll, I am so excited, just booked my room for TX. Ladies, I have only gone two times with out my honey. So i am actually estatic about meeting my Sistahs!! Hoping Betty will be able to go too.
And I will be meeting Stacey and Janice first...LOL, I asked him if he would want to go, UH, he wasn't interest in a bunch of ladies blabbing away. LOL told him he don't know what he's missing.
I am just thrilled to pieces.

Hi VES...You out and about the gardens yet??
Tried turning my compost, and it still frozen!

Stacey, safe travels home.

Barbara I left for work at 8:00 am and Stacey had her vehicle all packed, few things left to do so would imagine she'd be home around the 3:00-4:00 pm...

I did so enjoy my weekend!

Nice to share some of my crafts, ideas, suggestions with someone who is INTERESTED..lol..

Yes, she did finish her sewing project..just too adorable..I couldn't post her project..guess it's intended for a gift..we've certainly given her the sewing bug..

Her car certainly was full..explain that at the border..lol..

Last evening I got a call from an old girlfriend who did crafts with me..she has 3 boxes of painting books and 1/2 box of quilting patterns she no longer wants, so will drop them off at the house tomorrow..as if I didn't have enough books..I can always share right?

How about you Barbara, are you finished the swap and exchange items you were working on? On Friday I'll drop into a little quilting boutique in Midland...drats, forgot about that one..should have gone with Stacey, never even came to mind..sorry Stacey...

We so laughed on Friday, not sure I told you about this..got home and there was $40. on the cupboard, could figure out who would have left it..Melanie & Greg dropped off Sophie and food for her for the weekend so couldn't quite figure out why they would have left it..then mom had dropped a few boxes for me to take to the Women's shelter and she was talking about a quilt rack like mine, maybe she left the money for wood so I could make her one...called her, she said it was for me to purchase something for my birthday..hello/hello told her she had bought me a beautiful metal candle holder surrounded by glass for my birthday, said she forgot...so gave me another..then she wen't on to say on Friday night she won almost $2,000 at Rama again, so I reminded her seeing she's been forgetting that perhaps next week she should get me a 'birthday gift'..lol

UPS just came in with a headset and mike...I didn't like the other ear attachment he bought for me awhile back, this one is quite hi-tech..as he says, easier for me to do crafts with both hands free..

Spoilt am I...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Sounds like the two of you had a wonderful time together. I'm sure Stacey will share a photo of her quilt when the itime is right. I have completed and mailed all my Spring Block Swap blocks. I have also completed but not mailed yet all the Glutton Swap ones. I have my Baby quilt challenge quilt ready to layer and quilt. Now I am working on DGD's quilt. Also made my two blocks for my Block of the Month class. I have been busy. So much fun. Can you tell I just love fabric??
Get plentyof rest while you can - I heard a rumor that Spring may be coming - hopefully soon. Of course it is only 19 degrees here right now so I wouldn't know for sure.
Have a wonderful day Barb

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now that's a lot of quilt swaps Barb..I've joined in the 2009 Quilt Swap Block..not 100% yet sure I know how it works..but, am sure the girls will lead me through..must pick up materials for May block..shouldn't be a problem, easy block to assemble...

Vicki, omg snow...my yard is completely snow free... sounds as though you've quite a bit started inside...things any better at work?

still ice on most on the pond..Stacey and I were laughing, there is what seems a dead frog under the layer of ice..I said that perhaps that's what they look like during the winter and they revive come spring..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Gillian, when Kyle and Noah were over for a visit on Sunday night, I asked where Greg was..they had all been away north for snowmobile vacation..Kyle said that Greg had mega work ahead of him as he is doing a submission for work at the Hospital in MooseFactory..both Stacey and I looked at each other and said 'wow, that's were Gillian lives...let's hope he winds the bid...he's the dark haired son that you met when you spent the night..how thrilling would that be...

About another 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. and Stacey Janice should be on your side of the border again, of course she brought with her 2 of my 'swaps' to post...no delays with customs this time...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm in that Swap too Betty. I'm #3 so I don't have to make a block for July. You make one or two blocks for each month in the pattern the person for that month has picked. You keep one and mail the other to Janice. When she has them all for that month she sends them to the person for that month. They have an instant quilt to put together!! Each month you do the same thing until it is your month when you just wait to see what everyone else has made for you!! The blocks you kept for yourself now have become enough to make a sampler quilt of all the different blocks you made during the year. Neat huh!!! A great way to learn new blocks, techniques and have fun. And everyone is always here if you run into a problem with any block. I'm sure you will love it and it gives us something to keep busy with each month. (As if you need MORE!!!)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hmmm ok..wasn't sure if because I joined in if we'd have to mame the extra block..but yes, it's a great idea..now to shop for material..only thing is we don't have any red/white/blue type American fabric..might just have to make a stop either going or coming back while in USA next month to pick me some up..lol

And yes, sure doesn't take us much to take on more projects does it..

Praying for those of you who are having to watch for tornadoes. Some people ask me if I worry about hurricanes. Sure, I do, especially after Katrina, but at least I have time in advance to prepare.

I blew up at home last night. I told all of them that I was tired of working my *** off to do everything at home and getting no respect or appreciation in return! Didn't even cook last night! Made me a salad and they had to fix their own dinner. My youngest is 9 and he knows his way around the kitchen pretty good! I have to watch my 11 year old, he really will cook! My daughter, 12, just does the very least like fix a sandwich! And hubby had to fix his own sandwich, too!

Hubby is now saying he wants a future with me, but he wants back the woman he fell in love with- strong and independent. Guess what, he's gonna get what he asked for. I told him last night that what didn't kill me would make me stronger, and I am so tired of his back and forth that I am getting very strong and independent! There's just one problem, I may not need or want him once I become that woman.

I hope you all have a good day. Today, I am in a much better mood because "I am woman; hear me roar." No time for blues today.

love, julie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Julie, best thing we can do for ourselves is become totally independent..wether we have to take advantage of the 'trait' or not, it's 1st on the list of womanhood..no one should have to depend on someone else for their happiness! Once you've obtained that, then DH fits well within your plans..

Wanting 'the girl he married' doesn't explain though why he used up all the finances this month though does it????

Sending you a hug or two, maybe three and more...
Hope it's a sunshine day in your neck of the woods.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, the fabric does not have to be Amercan type, just any red white & blue fabrics. It can even be all the colors in one faric, or batiks. it does not have to be stars and stripes.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Linda Kay but I guess I might have been browsing down the list and saw red/white/blue American theme perhaps...

I am excited..you'll certainly enjoy the quilt won't you..have you another done in same manner of swap?

When Stacey and I were in Fabricland on the wall they had different quilts on the wall, there was one that they had quilted 'stitch in the ditch' and then in center of block had 2 or 3 buttons to make a center stitch tie..very nice..think I'll do that with this one..

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Anjl, prayers for your friend, and Bogie.........

I had fun with the Door....it is a combination of the clay and paint......have some ideas for pictures....if it ever quits raining...and I ever get rid of this sore throat....don't fell that bad, no other symptom....just a sore throat:(

Have to pick up Laura, pick Sage up early and stay for Parent/Teacher conferences......then try and get a few things done before Sage has to be to Rock Climbing.....new class starts today and she asked if she could go again.....

I am so tired of clouds and cold and rain.....I want warm and sunshine!!

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

Trisha, I loved the fairy door. Have been looking at them for a long time but didn't see anything I liked that I wanted to pay that much for. Wish I was good at clay but I just don't think that is my thing. Where is it going to go?

Baton Rouge, LA

Just popping in for a bit....

DS won't have a Tennis match today, the other team's player cancelled...so I don't get to play hooky from work as I was expecting this afternoon....Darn!

We're supposed to have some rocky weather later this week....it's just dreary right now...but after the beautiful weekend we had I supposed I'd better send the sunshine up to you all....

Julie - I've gone on strike before...and it has really helped! Maybe you could do something completely different...take a class in something you are interested.... but lighten your load at home for sure. After 5 years of finding folded clean clothes in the pile left for me to wash I completely stopped doing DD's laundry! Still don't do it to this day....and guess what.....now I have more time to come here to DG and chit chat with you guys!

Empowering!

Hugs to all,
Mary

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No, I have seen other red white and blue quilts, and just loved how they looked! I have squares in natural colors, and we just finished the black and white one! So far I have not been disappointed! I love all the blocks.
LK

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty the patriotic quilt block and fabric is for me. Any red, cream and blue fabric is just fine with me too. The only reason I was so definitive was because I couldn't find blue fabric with WHITE stars on it anywhere. Everywhere there was blue with cream or tan stars on it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'll be on the lookout..actually perhaps one lunch hour I'll cross over to the little fabric boutique (try and stay away from there - could you ever spend some dollars-not that you can't in any other fabric store) to find something appropriate..

I so laughed, Stacey was at Fabricland with me, saw some lovely material for chair covers about 54 or 60 on sale for $4.00...from around $20. so she kind of eyed it and said give me 1 meter (39 inches) so I said for $4.00 and not knowing what the actual chair sizes were that it would be better to have an extra meter..total $8.00 purchase..she's very frugal with material..every 1/4" counts..so laughing..anyway, the saleslady and I both talked her into purchasing the 2nd meter..just incase she needed more than 1 meter and it's always nice when doing a chair cover to have extra incase of spills..not so sure she wanted to but with our high pressure tactics guess who bought 2 meters?

She so fell in love with more yardage, you could see she wanted it but because of cost she didn't get it..saleslady told her for members this coming weekend it's 1/2 price..Stacey said she just might call me to pick some up for her...think she best get herself a sewing machine..she sure is taken up with sewing...does a great job, I gave her some hints and how to's, in no time she had her project completed...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Don't really have a permanent home for the Door right now.....I do have several places with very interesting trees and rocks and things where I want to take pictures.....but they are in places where I would never leave the Door as it would last about ten minutes.....where would you put one?

Have to go pick up Laura and go to Sages school for parent teacher conferences.....then to baby sit Orion for a little bit, then to Sages Rock Climbing Class.....then Spin class....will try to pop back in later....

Not feeling well and would really just like to go back to bed....:(

Sounds like Betty and Stacey can get in a lot of trouble in fabric stores???

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha, could you go in search of a fallen tree (perhaps a stump) and add it to an existing garden? So cute..you just have to continue with your miniature display...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Should be a post from Stacey any time saying she's home safely...
Stacey, hope they didn't keep you at the border..you know some of those guards have wives who just might like those butterflies..lol

hello all
spring is on the way for you and winter for us.
at least we are getting some rain and people are beginning to rebuild their lives after the fires.

we are well, trying to get things organised. the house is such a mess with the new puppy dragging things all over and the baby... goodness my daughter is a messy one!

then the government tell me they are going to paint the house inside and out, replace all the carpets, kitchen and shower which is wonderful but what a mess i am going to have!! not sure how we are going to manage it...

anyways.. plodding along

hugs to u all

I think some can relate to this..LOL

--- Tulane Study
A study conducted by Tulane's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that
the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where
she is in her menstrual cycle. For example: If she is ovulating, she is
attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is
menstruating, or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with duct
tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his chest while he is on fire.
No further studies are expected.

OH OUCH.!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Laura, don't think of the mess, think of the final outcome..a pretty home! Puppy must be getting bigger..can see how much joy he's bringing you...

Well, Ladies, I talked to the surgeons nurse this afternoon. I go Thurs. morning to see him, and begin preparations for the total knee replacement. They'll do a nasal scan to make sure I don't have any staph left. Then an exra, and in a few days do the preop. I guess I'm on my way!

Betty, I started cutting the squares for my rag quilt today! 7 in. squares. I think that'll be about right and use the fabric up!

Victoria Harbour, ON

I look forward to your photo's Laura..am glad things are improving...you are starting your day and I'm calling it a night..thought I'd make the 'evening shift' no can do!

Audrey, think that using up scraps is an excellent idea..can you believe it, don't think I have any material OR scraps laying around..thought about showing Stacey how to do paper piecing but no material..does that mean I have to go fabric hunting....

I've made 8:30..had some chores to do, had my bath and now it's off to bed...

Looking forward to having coffee in hand and reading your posts tonight...

Again, I've a few patterns for butterflies if anyone would like one...

I accused DH of making this up just for me...he just emailed it to me.

This Scary

Cake Mixes & Toxin-PLEASE READ

A student at HBHS (high school) had pancakes this week and it almost became fatal. His Mom (registered nurse) made him pancakes, dropped h im off at school and headed to play tennis. She never takes her cell phone on the court but did this time and her son called to say he was having trouble breathing. She told him to go to the nurse immediately and proceeded to call school and alert the nurse. The nurse called the paramedics and they were there in 3 minutes and worked on the boy all the way to the hospital. He came so close to dying. Evidently this is more common then I ever knew. Check the expiration dates on packages like pancakes and cake mixes that have yeast which over time develop spores. Apparently, the mold that forms in old mixes can be toxic! Throw away ALL OUTDATED pancake mix, Bisquick, brownie mixes etc you have in your home.

www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/pancake.asp

I looked on the snopes link..
It didn't have this story..But did have another..One with a death caused by allergic reaction to mold..Can't hurt to read this.!!!!!!!!

Wow - I always wonder if these things are 'real' but you've actually done the "homework"....Thank you! Terry !!!

On another note....the actress - Natassa Richardson - that passed away upon a skiing accident....

Wow - you never know when your time will come ...but wasn't she a wonderful actress? I remember her in the latest "Parent Trap" series....
