Shes about to....#44

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I got a d mail from Karen, and she is just really busy. I have not heard from AuntB.

Praying for everyone. I know spring time is a busy time for everyone!

LK

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

AuntB is also very busy with plants and other things. She is OK. I got a D-mail response from her on the 7th. I hope she gets some time to drop in some day!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Jb it is okay to worry, we are all like sisters here.. Been busy as well trying to get stuff done in between Pauline time, while off work.. it is getting ready to storm here so in the house for awhile.. I supposed I should make a ham and cheese potatoe bake with the left over easter ham, clean house and go to paulines this afternoon.. take care! Tammie, LindaKay.. Jb.. and all you lurkers.. *hugs* from Derby, Kansas..

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thank you so much. I pop in between chores because I just must sit down and rest for a few minutes and this is a way I make myself do that. I am going to begin to move plants around and just took a minute to say I love you all, like daughters, and thank you for being there for those who need your help. Maybe you do not get a thank you from them, but I know they really appreciate it. I spent many years in the health and human services field and so much appreciation goes unsaid. I think it is so important for care-givers to be credited for giving of themselves. So, I am saying it for them. Thank you and hugs.JB

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone, hope everything is going good. I am not even going to try and catch up. I lost the post and couldn't figure out where it was. Finally sit down and searched and here you all are.

Wish I could send rain to you Texans cause I have had more than enough! Tomorrow more rain and cold....hate that combination.

Pulled all the brugs and ee' out of the garden room and washed them all down. Between brugs and ee's I don't know which is the worse bug collector.

Went by dollar general and picked up a bunch of plastic pots at pretty good prices. I usually buy what they have left at the end of the year but I can't wait that long...LOL

I have a bunch of plumerias that need repotted and some amarillyis (or how every you spell it) to repot they don't need giant size pots. Costco had some huge pots for 20.00 dark brown really nice. I bought some for the brugs. I hit the thrift stores every once in a while and craigslist to see if any one is giving them away. Craigslist I have found lots of clay pots people will give away.

Glad I found you all. Debra I emailed Bonnie about the ru.....like you all before me I didn't get a response. Maybe I will call tomorrow.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

happ please lets go to the ru together.. I can come there and meet you when it is time.. raining cats and odgs here/

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

OK Debra, sounds like a deal. I hate driving all that ways by myself. Let alone poor you driving all that ways!
Hope the weather straightens up by the time all this takes place.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Me too, went out to look at all the brugs after the storm, a few tattered leaves, but all in all a successful night. Too bad I have an inch of water down here in the basement today, I will spend the day water vacuming.. bleah..

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

At least you have water to complain about! LOL even when it rains here the ground stays dry.. it is so hard baked. Driving me crazy. Not that we have had much rain... 1/3" last saturday and it did not even wet the ground dug the next day and it was dry, dry, dry! I am hand watering everything because the sprinklers just don't seem to do the job.

When you finsih decluttering that basement, you are welcome to come to my house and start here. I have two rooms and a garage that could really stand that kind of work.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Tammie it seems to be feast or famine with rain. We have just had so much when I walk the ground squishes. Worried about some of my plants drowning or iris and lilies rotting....cold and wet yuck!

Been out digging in the flower beds, I have a swap going, just big mud balls! Next week is suppose to be better....yeah!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

yup, well the DH brought my huge water vac down and he freaked out.. I was like" wel I do this all the time cuz this happens all the time" he immediately started vacumming the water , I do not think he realized how bad it gets down here, and all this time I have been the only one dealing with it.. got the fans going now, and the good news is, I had been slowly moving the plants outside, so it is kinda like spring cleaning down here.. maybe he will agree to get the basement fixed afterall.. ( he has his head in sand when it comes to that topic in the past)

Does anyone have a good support system for the brugs. I know they get to be at least 6 - 8 foot tall, maybe more. I have mine in the front yard, and it gets quite windy here sometimes. I was just wondering what you all use to support them, so they won't break off?

Hi to everyone!. My trip to Minnesota is over and I had a nice time. The weather was perfect, sunny all the time with just a cool wind. No need for winter clothes. It rained a little the day we left to come home. Wide open spaces, no fences like we have here. I do miss that, but I was happy to come home. Now to get started with all my seeds everyone sent me. Weather here is so hot, was 92 yesterday and hot weather is going to stay a while. Happy to get back to Dave's Garden and all my new friends.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey samigal, long time no see!
Glad to hear you had a great trip. Know what you mean it is good to be home!

LK

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I'm such a homebody any way. Don't know how I tore myself away from the computer so so long. So many things I have to do now to keep my plants happy.

Thanks for the welcome back.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I had this pretty open this morning.

So sweet smelling!

I may never have any blooms this year. I put my brug outside and all was fine until the wind and rain came over night and today it looks like someone just wanted to ruin it. All the leaves are bent and broken and it is a mess. If I were not a lady, and usually I am not, but I am being polite....I would cuss right now. In fact, I hope the parrot was not listening when I first saw the brug this morning. LOL.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

JB, the leaves will grow back, and if there are broken stems, you can place them in water, or in damp soil, to root and grow new ones!
Sorry you had some damage, but they will come back!

LK

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Linda, that poor brug has been through the mill. I sprayed it with the wrong spray in the Fall, it almost died then. None of its cuttings rooted, they all got slimy. It has had mealy bug for the past few weeks and that is why I wanted to get it outside to clean it up with the hose and spray. It was looking so good and happy. Now BOOM. We are to have thunder storms today too. Go ahead Lord, give it to me all at once. WAAAAAAH! JB

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

JB, wish I was there, so you could cry on my shoulder. Sometimes it goes that way. What brugs are you trying to grow? Are they named ones?

LK

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I got some seed from AuntB and those are coming up and looking well. I do not have their names here at the moment. The Maya Brug seeds are not doing a thing and they have been in the ground for a month. I must transplant the seedlings soon. They are really growing like weeds and they are going to live in the GH this summer until they get bigger. They are so pretty I do not know how they survive the weather in some areas.
I am hoping my babies survive. We will see. JB

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I know exactly how you feel! I potted 3 of my best growing cuttings up into 10 inch pots and moved them outside.. the next day they were all cut off and dying! Either the wind did it or a grasshopper ... been seeing some of those big monsters around... very unusual this time of the year. So far one is starting to come back. We have had winds up to 60mph and it does a job on all the leaves and smaller branches. Hang in there, that plant obviously wants to grow!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

all my brugs are outside except four seedlings now, I planted the two star dancer seedlings outside, both are hanging inthere, one is in the corner by my back door andone isout back behind the pear tree against the dog run fence.. all the pots of brugs I have wintered over are in their spots getting used to it and the oneson the south fence under thebridal wreath are sprouting new leaves.. wind? yes.. I de leaved them all so we could not have that heart break.. they get tuff when they start out afresh outside here in kansas.. my sanquina is staying inside however.. where the a/c will be.. LOL

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I am going to have to look up sanquina.....don't know what that is.
I haven't brought anything out of the garden room but lilies and daylilies. All the brugs are still tucked in with the ee's. Missouri is windy also on top of this darn hill! Today was awful. I think I have a triple getting ready to bloom. As I was leaving the garden room I noticed an okra on one of the plants...hope it is the triple!

Suppose to be warm tomorrow, yeah, but I will be at work.....rain on Saturday....that is normal.
Glad MN was good to you and not snowy and cold! I would like 90 much better there in CA.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Rain is about over. Fog is thick. Wind is calm for now. Being only 20 mi. from the ocean we get pretty much of the ocean breeze but not the storms. Last night we did have storms for several hours, but most of them were east of us, which is the ocean. It is to get warm here and then rain again at night in a day or two. We have just planted a hundred new Christmas trees and they love the rain, so I can not complain about that too much. Last year we lost 60% of the new plantings because it was too dry. Go figure.

I need to get some things in the ground but it is too wet. They plowed the field for me two days ago but it has been raining since and I am sitting here waiting and watching things flying around with the darn wind. Now we will see what today and tomorrow bring. I must take the dog to the vet tomorrow for bloodwork and then I am hoping I can get back to business as usual.

Have a good day. I will check in later if I do not get lost in the fog. JB

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I was planning on getting some yard work done, but it is just too HOT. I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't get to 100 today. DH did take care of my brugs, but let some other plants die. Grrr I had some mint growing in a rectangular pot just outside the back door and he didn't see it, so he says. When it cools off enough I have to get out there and pull more weeds, how fast they grow with no rain. At least it does cool down at night. Record heat for us this time of year. I hate to see what our summer will be like.

I put two aqua bowls in two of my house plants and they seemed to do the job of watering. At least they are still nice and green.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

You think the weeds grow a lot without rain, just wait until you get a rain! I was shocked a week after it rained a little one day.. went out into the alley and it looked like a jungle had sprung up. The weeds were competing to see who could grow the fastest... I got out there and chopped them down as quickly as I could.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Another day, more clouds and lots of rain last night. The sun came out yesterday PM and it got very warm and humid, so I quickly put all the jasmine out on the south deck and they looked like they were in heaven. But, last night the storms went thru again and I thought they may have some damage but they are all o.k. Very wet, but o.k. I am just sick of being wet. I feel like I am moldy.

There was about 5 min. of sun this morning and now it is looking like more rain. It is only in the 50s too. See you all later. JB

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It is supposed to be 99 here today. I can send you some of that!
It is 81 now.
LK

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I would be happy to trade some of our sun for some of your rain.. it is already 87 here today and expected to get a lot hotter! Lucky there is no humidity.. it is currently 7% and will probably go lower as the day warms up.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Just about perfect here for a change. High 70's, wind tolerable, and not a could in the sky.
Course I am at work......

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

It cooled down a little here too, some crazy weather everyone is having. Planted an upside down tomato (my son put it up so will see what happens) and will plant two tomato plants tomorrow, a celebrity and a big beef. I need room for my squash plants and then will begin planting my sink full of flower seeds sent by Debra. Hope the heat stays away until I can get everything planted.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

OH, I can't wait to hear how that tomato grows. I see the pictures on TV but wonder how well they really do. Please keep us updated on its growth.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

This is my dads topsy turvy plants. He has already picked, and ate 3 cherry tomatoes. He has three of them, one with cherry tomatoes, one has better boys, and one has bush goliath. There are tomatoes on all three plants.

Thumbnail by taters55
Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

That seems almost sinful. If God wanted plants to grow upside down, why don't we plant them face down? Oh what next will they come up with. LOL

Morning. Sun is shining and I must get to work. Morning Hugs to you all. JB

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

We did those about 5 years ago. Only problem is the vines kept trying to grow up and when the big fruit got heavy the vine wanted to break so we had to tie them. Cherries worked great in them.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Cherries? You must be kidding? How do you grow cherries other than on trees?
I never heard of that. LOL I love cherries. JB

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I think she is talking about cherry tomatoes?

LK

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I'm a little more encouraged about trying upside down tomato. Just hope the plant doesn't get too heavy and branches break off. They sure do get big when you plant them in the ground. Didn't get mine planted today, DH got busy and cut some more of the vine that grows over the fence from property behind us. Now he is going to put my screening higher up to help protect more plants. I hope I don't have to wait long for that. Have to keep my brugs under the screening as the sun gets so hot and burns the leaves.

Could use some of the rain Happgarden is having. Looks like we will get some blood oranges this year. Didn't have a one the last couple of years.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

0OH MY GOD. NOW I AM BRAIN DEAD. OF COURSE SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT TOMATOES. ROFL.......Sometimes I think getting old is even funnier than watching a comedy show. My mind went right to "bing cherries" which I love....not cherry tomatoes. Oh well, I can see how they would do well upsidedown. Forgive me ladies. I laugh at myself all the time and I think that is what keeps me going. LOL Good day to work outside. I am out of here. JB
