Shes about to....#44

I'm here, I think everyone moved! LOL

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I'm here too. Just checking on my beautiful pink brug. I want to take a picture but will wait until the 2nd one opens far enough. Had to spray it again, found another nasty green worm. I do move around but always come back here.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

My poor brugs have so few leaves and something each day is biting a leaf off.. I find a leaf hanging by the barest bit of its stem...driving me nuts. My versi peach is putting out tons of new leaves along the main trunks.. am leaving those in place.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

The leaves on my brug are full of holes, but new ones always appearing. I wish they would find a way to neuter all those male bugs/worm etc. LOL

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I got an email today from Logee's they are having a sale on Brugs today. I quickly deleted it. I am out of money for now. LOL I think. Maybe I will take one more look. No, I am not. Happy April Fools Day .....About those green worms, are they inside or outside plants that get them?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I think she is talking about a tomato worm. For some reason they like the brugs also, probably cause they are in the same plant family?

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

The green worms don't look anything like the horn tomato worms. Long skinny things that look like the vein of the leaf. My brug is outside JB but still in a large pot. Our weather is so mild that I keep her outside all the time, but if we have strong winds I try to protect her. Last year when I planted marigolds around my tomato plants I didn't have any problem with worms. Who knows what will happen this year. I can't think of getting any more brugs now. I have several from different DG members and I'm waiting for them to grow up. I'm completely ignoring my poor plumeria plants and they do need TLC too.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

EWWWW! Sounds like a nasty worm!
Hope you can control them, we can't have naked stems for brugs!

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

We have had winds of 30 to 45 mph for days now and every leaf larger than 2" on my brugs is completley shredded.. they look like they have lived through an extended hurricane! My hibiscus leaves are shredding also and those are much sturdier leaves.... getting tired of the wind and I am really used to it but for days on end like this it gets very tiresome.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear the winds are blowing so hard. You are not too far from my son. he lives in Amarillo. he does tattoo's up there.
Praying for the wind to settle down, and give your brugs a rest!

We had a front come through tonight with gusts in the 50's and one at 60mph.. I was at my mothers house... had to run home to move plants that get tossed around when the winds get that high.... now they are back down around 35 to 40 .. more manageable speeds but still a pain. That one brug has another leaf cut down to a single thread holding it on... dont' know what is eating it.. can't find the darn bug but it is strange. One leaf per day in a different place on the plant each day! Driving me nuts! Going to neem the plant tomorrow before every full size leaf is gone... almost there already! Poor brug and I babied it all winter.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

If you can't find any worms, or slugs, maybe you have grasshoppers eating them. I would get that neem out, and spray them good!
Morning everyone. Hope you all have a great day!

Oh I know what tomato worms look like, they are nasty little creepers.
The wind has been a problem here all winter and now into the Spring. I am sick of it you hear. Sick Sick Sick. Today it is blowing again but not like yesterday. You could not stand up. Dog will not tinkle because the wind blows him over when he lifts his leg. this dog weighs 34 pounds. I guess I will have to get him pampers or something if it soon does not stop. LOL
I use tomato fertilizer on my brugs and they love it. So, I guess the worms will arrive when I get it out on the patio. I hope not. Have a good one ladies and gents. Hugs. JB

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I think I will buy some tomato fertilizer today.. mine need it.. I searched every millimeter of that plant today.. not hard to do.. not many leaves left! It got another one after that last one last night! Still can't find the culprit. Whatever is doing it.. will be DEAD by the end of the day.. neem here we come.. now to find an empty sprayer... maybe I will go to the dollar store and buy something that has a good sprayer.... best way to get a new spray bottle and dump out whatever was in it.

Here is a picture of the green worms that have been eating holes in the leaves of my brugs.

I have 4 blooms open now. Strange one of them is a single and the others are double. Is that normal?

well, at least the worms are healthy! LOL

..... not for long I hope

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

But I don't like healthy worms. ^_^ I think I have a war on my hands.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Kinda looks like an inch worm?
Beautiful blooms, so pretty!
YUCK!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Never thought of an inch worm, wonder what lays them yucky things. I have to go out each morning and look at my pretties. I have a couple baby brugs out there, maybe I should find a different place for them in case that "inch worm" likes more tender leaves.

Pegi, thanks for keeping me company tonight on my brug thread.Hope you sleep good tonight.

Cody

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Pegi your plants looking ggoood! Oh just pinch those worms and squish them! Cody saw your brugs on another thread and they are awsome!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

All the plants got fertilized this morning and now I have to go and spend all my money on groceries. I noticed some sad looking plants, but hope nourishment will get them to spruce up. Brug blooms get prettier each day.

Thanks Debra.

The wind is helping me keep my brug addiction in check... hardly a leaf of any size left on anything after constant winds of 30 to 40 mph for over a week. Only the small sprouting leaves now. We had a gust of 61 the other night... even my fully leafed out hibiscus finally gave it up and lost about 1/2 its leaves last night. For being used to the wind after living here over 30 years.... ENOUGH ALREADY! LOL My one bud on the versacolor peach blew off last night... I have not seen that one bloom yet and it is about 3ft tall.. grew well last year. I hope to have it bloom this year... at least now the bud is gone, I can go ahead and repot it. I have let it grow into a multi trunk plant.. with three trunks. Should be pretty when it has leaves again.. right now it is a bunch of sticks with fuzzy tiny green leaves coming out.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Yeee GADS, the wind is gusting at 50 mph plus and the star magnolia that just started to bloom at the end of the old red barn is taking a real beating. I planted summer daffodil bulbs today in all this wind and I have a splitting headache now. Oh well, maybe it will stop tomorrow so we can all get back to normal. The roof lifted off our one barn and my SIL had to get up and put it back. Life on a farm is such fun. LOL.

Seriously, where is AuntB? Karen?

Time to close the greenhouse door. The temp is dropping and the wind is picking up even more. I could crawl in a hole if I had a hole to crawl in. Hugs to all. Happy Palm Sunday tomorrow.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

don't mention headaches from the wind! I take medicine for headaches and now that I don't have insurance.. it is going to cost me $500 per month when what I have runs out... with this wind.. I have had a mild headache for the past 4 days... can't imagine what it would be like without the medicine. I would probably be in the bed. .... actually, I do know what it is like without the medicine... I lived with the headaches most of my life and I don't want to go back to that!

WIND...... GO AWAY! .... really, I mean it. This is getting really monotonous. I love my wind chimes but am getting tired of them too. I have never before been tempted to take them down. Just imagine a week of mild hurricane strength winds.... that is what it has been like around here.. my mailbox stand broke a few days ago.. already replaced... tree limbs coming down everywhere one by one... just constant stress on everything. It is a little less right now.. constant wind at 25 mph with gusts to 40 ... still driving me nuts....

let's go fly a kite! More like the kite would be flying us!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

windy here too you guys.. in the 70s' today and the 50s' tommorrow bleah... lows are still down in the 20's , but put my seeds out in the flower gardens anyway

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Tammie I am so sorry you have headaches. I go to a Chiropractor twice a month to put my neck back in line and that is one reason I have a headache today. He gave me a real work out yesterday and he told me the barametric pressure changing will no doubt affect my vertigo. I seldom get headaches unless I cut back on the caffine and then I get a dull one. But today I was fine until I went out in that wind and worked out in it for an hour. Poor Tammie, I hope it stops soon. It is the same here and we are close to the ocean so it is cooler too. What would we do without the weather to talk about. LOL
Nite kiddo. I hope you sleep well.. I am tired and just got out of the shower. I am going to have a cup of tea and relax. Hugs. JB

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

headache or not.. going to a hockey game tonight.. got to get ready... Go Jacks Go! We are in the playoffs.... best of 7 series and we are at 2 and 2 right now.. 5th game is tonight.. we won in double overtime last night. This is the first game back here .. the last two games were away in Larado TX.... glad to have our team home... strange to be going to hockey when it is 83 outside! AND STILL WINDY!!! LOL

..... I wonder if my hibiscus will have ANY leaves left by tomorrow... my biggest one lost its last leaves a few days ago.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone......Tammie, who won??????? How is your headache? Mine is better. I think alot of it was I had not had any caffine for a day and I was having a headache from that and the wind did not help. I am drinking a big cup of coffee NOW.
Was out in the field about 8 a.m cutting daffodils to put on the stand. Hopefully someone will buy them or we will have alot of pretty flowers in the house for a few days. LOL
Hope you all have a great Palm 'Sunday.
This is a work day for us. Will talk later. JB

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Mornin' JB and everyone.. freezing blowing gusty weather today.. supposed to go to Tropicmans' place and dig up bulbs.. I might have to pass on this today..

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

WE WON! No overtime. Next game is tuesday in Larado.. sure wish I could go but that is clear to the border ... 448 miles... wish I could find someone to go with and share the gas.. I would go for sure!

Headache is better today... wind is only 20mph right now gusting to 32 at the moment... an improvement.

One of my brugs I rooted over the winter got "cut off" by something last night. Came home to all the growth laying beside the pot ... so sad. Hope it tries to come back. Some hungry critter ate the main stem clean through at its base and I had just potted it and put it out the night before! It was growing so well I put it in a nice gallon pot!

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

The wind has won... my 3 best growing, prettiest cuttings have been devistated by the wind.. all three broken off at the bottom... dead... broken... wilted.. so sad... I actually cried... they were a ft tall and had the prettiest leaves of all .... marrabeck, frosty pink and monster white... just looked out and all three just broken and laying there. I just moved everything into the potting shed.... going to stay there until this wind stops. They will not get as much sun and will get a lot hotter but at least they will not be blasted by the constant wind... should have moved them there a week ago! I just want to go lay down and cry.
