I do not have a garden anymore, because I hate to pull weeds. I have a field that we grow the daffodils and eucalyptus , black pussywillows, some iris, the tropicals are all scattered here and there on both my east and south decks and inside. I thought I did show you the field of daffodils. We also have acres of Christmas Trees, big and little. The wonderful gardens you all have with your annuals are wonderful. I gave that up years ago when my Marine husband got sick and I had to care for him. When he died I then had my mother to care for, she lived to be 96 and I was caring for her and breeding exotic birds. No time for gardens. I eventually sold my farm, where I had the gardens and moved here, where I am now. Look at this link and you can see the farm this past winter when we were selling trees. If you scroll down you will see a picture of the gang (all relatives) the Tree Team...I am the white haired little one in front. LOL That will show you what takes up most of the space on the farm. http:// www.rob-lynfarm.com . JB

Looks like you keep yourself busy! It is a lovely space, kind reminds me of my Grandparents farm, years ago. They grew bluespruce trees! I remember running through the trees, and getting the red prickly bumps everywhere. LOL

Thanks for sharing.

Here is a picture of the field I use to plant my cutting plants in. There will be Eucalyptus, Money Plant, and whatever else I have that can be put in the field. The seeds did not do too well this year and I am not sure what I will have. There will be herbs and some tomatoes (1plant if I can help it), to the left is a row of lilac (small pink and yellow) , black and regular pussy willow, two dwarf holly,. iris, peonies and other small american holly. They are on the other side of the daffodils. Then the daffodils and then the area that is ready for some annuals before the daffodil bulbs come to be put in this coming fall.

The other side of this field is a row of red maple babies and some other evergreen stuff we stuck in before it gets planted in the field. This field is our baby field or our Misc. field before things get put where they go to be sold.

Wow, you do stay busy, planting, transferring...
Lovely place!

LK

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

As you can see, our gardens are more for commercial use, than for pertty. LOL I will show you one more of the tropicals that have been cut back and cuttings taken and are now outside for the summer. This is the south deck, where there will be a few more to come.
The rest are on the east deck because they are not full sun. And, the new plants are in the house in the bird room growing. LOL The greenhouse has a giant jasmine in it along with some house plants that are for sale and seedlings, plus all the new scented geraniums.
The large part of the field that is still in rye grass will no doubt remain grass this year. We used to plant glads to cut and sell, but the soil needs a rest and so this year we will no doubt just leave it go. I hope this helps you understand what my home and gardens are like. As I said, it is more commercial than formal gardens. Hope this did not bore you too much. JB

Are you kidding, why would a beautiful place that bore me?
It is a very nice place, I hope you have lots of help for the moving of plants and such?

Thanks for sharing the pics and history.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Here is the last one. I must get out and be productive. These were a shot of some of last years glads before they were bunched to sell. JB

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Those are so pretty. Do they last a long time, once you cut them?

LK

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Wow, it is getting warm out there. Just came in for a drink and saw your question. Yes, the glads are great for cutting. If you change their water and pull off the dead ones you can keep them for a week, if they are fresh cut and you add some preservative. LOL
Seriously, I had customers that told me that they would have them from one Friday until the next. That is good. I usually give them the packets of the flower freshner with the bigger bouquets.
Back out to scrub pots. JB

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Samigal, wish I could send you some rain. It is dark already and rain on the way. Then they are saying rain tomorrow....UGH. I know rain is good but the weeds are taking over the flower beds.

JB, what brand of greenhouse is that? Would recommend it? I am thinking hard about buying one, but soooo many different one and prices go from no horrible to unbelieveable. The upper priced ones I would have to move into and then drive it to work!!!!

Back outside until the rain or claps of thunder, which ever happens first.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Happ, I did a lot of research before I spent the money for this baby. We use the regular metal frames covered with the plastic when we need a gh for shrubs, trees, etc. when we have to hold them over for some reason., but I wanted something more permanent for my personal tropicals and houseplants. When I bought it I did not have any intentions of selling plants. It was just to accomodate my hobby. Therefore, I got what I wanted and it turned out to be a Rion. There are several kinds of Rions and I got the one you can add sections to. So far I have not had to add additional ones. I got the premium package, it is only 8'6" x 12'7" x 6'1-" and has 2 roof windows, 1 Lourve window, the base kit and the shade net. It cost me about $2200. That is just for the greenhouse. You then figure another $$$$$$ for all the shelves, potting bench, heaters, fans, water, electric and anything else you want or need. The additional sections are extra of course.
I got mine thru the Greenhouse Outlet. www.greenhouseoutlet.com
I hope this helps you in your search for what you want. If you want any further info, maybe you should dmail me so we do not take up space and time of others. I am fine either way JB

so much rain here the basement is flooded, me and DH have been sucking up water for two nights and days now.. ugh!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like you need a better sump pump?
Good luck with the water.

Hi ALL!!!

It's been awhile since I've posted---was a victim of the economy and lost my job the end of February...depression got the best of me but I'm hanging in there best as I can. DH is working and he has the medical/prescription coverage, thank goodness for that :) I console myself with the fact that I will have a darned nice garden this year!!!

Linda Kay---the prickly pear cactus that you sent me last year are really going strong! They are going on my deck in planters (full sun) and I won't hafta worry about them being dry and/or too much sun. I've got my brugs in the basement. A couple of them are 5' tall and Y'd (YEA!!!) --- I've probably got about 30 brugs total --- ranging from 1' - 5' --- a lot of them are NOID but I'll still love them, when they flower, irregardless!!! This was my first year of not having aphids and/or fungus gnats on my over-wintered plants. I've been using Bayers 3 - in - 1 for 'roses'. I do not grow roses but someone had suggested this type of Bayers and IT WORKS fabulously but, of course, I still use H202 as an additive everytime I water and I also use Messenger, occasionally, even in the winter 'dormant' time.

I hope that everyone is doing well and I miss AuntB's posting also :(

Happy Gardening (and stay healthy also...)
Just "ME", Jan

Hey Jan. Glad to hear from you, but so sorry you lost your job! So many are losing jobs...
Glad to hear your prickly pears are doing well. They are in full bloom now, and I need to go and find that orange for you! I will get out this week-end, and get some!
Take care.

LK

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Jan, what concentration do you use of the Bayer for roses.. the bottle I have only has for plants in the ground ... not in pots.. it actually says not to use it on potted plants. I have been afraid to try! I use it on my roses.. only have 2 plants but they are tall... over 8ft tall... was slow cutting them back and now am afraid I will kill them.

That makes at least 3 of us out of work... I have to find a job very soon or run out of $$$ ... don't even go to the grocery store unless I absolutely HAVE TO!

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I have a Brug question for you all. When it is time to repot your brugs you have started from seed, do you ever plant them outside in full sun? Has anyone ever planted them in a field like situation. I was thinking of putting them in a row in the flower field and see how they did. They grow so fast, I am not sure what to do with them. The old one I have looks horrible. I put it outside a few weeks ago and it was so happy. We then had that awful wind and it is NAKED. LOL. Poor thing. It keeps trying to grow and something always seems to happen. Must go do some work in the GH. Later. JB

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

They do grow pretty fast, and putting them in larger pots all depends on the plant. You can look at the bottom opf the pot, to see if there are any roots coming through, or you can lift the plant, to check on the root ball.
When I started the seeds, I waited for the plants to have about 2 or 3 sets of leaves, then I placed then directly into a large pot.
I would plave them in pots in different areas around your place, for a few days to see if they are happy or not, then I would place them in the ground. I have some of mine, in pots, on the east side of the house, where they get the morning sun until about 1:00 in the afternoon. My new angel garden is in the front yard, where they get full sun all day. So far, I have no problem with them.
As far as the wind goes, they are pretty fragile, and they will lose leaves, but they will come back. Make sure you stake them, when they get bigger, as that same wind will break them if they are not staked!.
Hope this helps.

LK

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

I would love to see a picture of your angel garden.. it has been a little while since you planted it.. would love to see how they are growing.

Wow.. that looks great and those brugs are growing nicely. I think I am going to put some in the ground and dig them back up in the late fall. They just don't grow as well in pots. Yours are growing faster than mine.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

They have grown a lot, since I placed them in the garden, and I have not fertilized any of them yet!

I'll have to look at my bottle tomorrow and then I'll let you know the mixture amount.

You are so kind to remember me :) How are you doing post-surgery?

Just "ME", Jan

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

My feet are still giving me problems, just where he cut the tendon to shorten it, is taking it's sweet ole time to heal. He says it will take up to 18 months to heal! It has only been 7 months so I just need to give it time!!!
Hope your doing well, and don't have this flu up near you! So far, no one here has it, that we know of, but it is 160 miles from us in San Antonio.
Take care

LK

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Wow, those brugs are great. Yours are protected Mine will not be. Hmmmm I must ponder this one. LOL thanks for the great pictures. They are so nice and clean and no weeds and just perfect. I am jealous. Hugs. JB

Beautiful garden tatters, and I love your angels. They add so much to a garden. I have a large angel but haven't decided where to place her. So much to be done yet to make the yard look good. Just planted seeds in my long sink and hope I see some heads popping up soon.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks everyone. It is sort of a tribute or memory garden for my Mom, I lost 3 years ago, the day after Mothers day. She loved Angels, and I love angel trumpets...

Beautiful LindaKay...worth all the time you put into building it...especially love the angels...as for your feet, you do tooooo much!

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I just transplanted 10 beautiful Brug plants that I started from Aunt B's seeds. They are now in 6" pots and she still does not know it. Hmmmm. I guess she is still busy.

There are also 3 Egg Trees, which I am not sure what they are, some Jap. Morning Glories and other pretty little annuals that will go into a container for my deck. I wish I could tell her how much fun I am having with these. I am not good with seeds, but these did so well.

I bought and planted hundreds of annuals seeds so I would not have to buy any this year. Well, we had the 90 deg. heat for 4 days and the greenhouse never got below 80 at night, and it was cooking in the daytime, with the shade cover on and everything, so all of those little darlings took a real hit and I ended up throwing them all away. I was so angry at myself, but it was too hot too soon and I was not ready for it. I will go buy some next week. Besides the annuals, there were several different special herbs that I usually have to sell, so this year we will not have herbs. LOL

I just replanted over 30 peace lillies. I had two very large plants that were pot bound and
not happy so I removed them and separated them. I hope they do well in the GH. I am ready for the heat now. Better late than never.

Must check the news and see how much flu is spreading and where. It sure is scary but I have lived thru so many flu seasons and some were biggies, I pray I make it thru this one.
Stay well all of you and wash your hands, don't hug those strangers, and stay out of crowds. Otherwise, have a great day. JB

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Everyone is busy getting their hands dirty and I'm being so lazy. I did plant some seeds in my long sink and my brugs seem to be doing just fine. I never minded pulling weeds, but they are getting the best of me this year. Did put my zucchini seeds out in the raised bed, hope I have a decent crop this yea. I put some seeds under my grow lights because I have no idea where I want to plant them.

I have been very lucky never getting the flu, but the media is doing a good job of scaring a lot of people. A couple men died, but they discovered it wasn't the swine flu. All have a good day and keep those pictures coming.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

all my brugs are outside, and even tho it has rained constantly here, they seem to be happy, even the babyes.. love the angels and the garden LindaKay, my garden out baack has my moms' ashes in it, so I can't help but think of her when ever i look out the window..
been working and then coming home nd working yuk.. too much rain! no one sick around here thank goodness, but aircraft factories are making us all crazy with layoffs.. thank goodness my hubby is still working, but my job is high risk at me being laid off.. *sigh*

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Debra, what city do you work out of ? Wichita? The company I work for has a division in Wichita.
Everything is just mud around here. Suppose to be in the 40's tonight. Need alot of sunshine around here. The house is cooling off but I sure don't want to turn the furnace back on and burn up that propane.

Debra, still thinking of going to the Midwest RU? I am game if you can go. I will be out of town Wed, Thur, and Fri for business but fly back from OKC Friday evening...I will have my laptop to use in the evening.

I still don't have the brugs outside yet. Maybe start moving them tomorrow. They need out and I need them out....LOL

Flu and all that I really worry about my 84 year old Mom.....she got it a few years back and ended up in the hospital.

Well hope everyone is doing well.....need to get to bed, but wanted to stop in and say hi. Where is Bonnie?

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Bonnie is missed so much, I hope it is just all her gardening that is keeping her from posting.

Went out to visit friends who are getting their 5th wheel ready for a 2 month trip. As soon as DH retired she was ready to hit the road. Can't get her interested in doing any gardening and she has lots of room for planting. Even showing her a picture of my double pink brug didn't seem to interest her, can't imagine anyone not liking to plant flowers.

Everyone have a great and safe day.
