LOL Jo Ann, I saved a few for myself! I winter sowed them, crossing fingers!
Garden photos of '09.....#9
Thanks I was about to go into major guilt.
Love the color of that pvl poppy.
I only have 1 hellebore that made it thru the winter.
Doesn't ajuga foliage stay around all year??? If it is supposed to, I must have lost all of mine except 1...what's the deal with that??? I thought it was super hardy???
The poppy was very pretty--love that color. Shelley, I think my reincarnation goes back to the Native Americans---when I was a kid, we lived near a supply reservoir--my fav thing to do was go around it as quietly as I could, watching birds, & looking for lady slippers---my friends thought I was batty! Today, I live right near an Army Corp dam project---that's where I walk nearly every day---will have to post photos of it.
It must be a beautiful walk! I'd enjoy something like that, too.
flowerjen, most of the desciptions of ajuga say "evergreen in milder climates".
Mine too, jen. I think that since it was a cold winter and we didn't get any of the snow others got to act as insulation we lost ours. I was thinking the exact same thing as you.
You GO GIRL Pixie!!!!
I forgot the best part......He said he paid $2.99!!
Great Deal! Some more poppy seeds accidently came home with me from Seedy Saturday this weekend. It's funny how that always happens to me.
Nope...I don't have any to look at..... might as well be yours. ^_^
NEVER tired of crocii pics.
I want a crocus to be called Hokus Pokus.
Awwwww a francais hokus. What does hokus pocus mean anyhoo?
hookie pookie = dance
Hokus Pokus = spell
Jo Anne, when I first moved to Reno, Nevada, I didn't like it. So barren and dry! But it grew on me, and I came to love the wide open spaces and how you can see for miles. Now I don't like hiking in forested places, at least not alone. I get very paranoid. But when I lived in NV and AZ I hike alone in the deserts many time and rarely ever was frightened. I know it's not wise to hike alone, but if I waited for someone to hike with me, then I would have rarely gone. I am happy I got to have so many wonderful hiking experiences without coming to an unhappy end.

Jo Anne, I bought that Princess Victoria Louise last year, and it wintered over, so am looking forward to seeing it bloom this year. I have WS 'Coral Reef' Oriental poppies up, among other things. I have 8 pots out of 24 that I sowed back in Feb. that have sprouted. Exciting! Still waiting on many others.
Karen
Victor, I never tire of your crocus pics. Bring em on! Especially since I don't have any to enjoy, as some critter has eaten them all (deer? rabbits?).
Celeste, that's a lot of poppy seeds! Whew! You must have a huge field to sow them in.
Karen
Oh no, Karen! Sorry to hear that. What garden critters would you have to deal with in TX? I just sprayed all mine today.
Victor, I don't have any crocus remaining from the probably 200 that I've planted over the years, because the gophers eat them! Then my moles would mess them up too because they would tunnel under them and then it would either drop into their tunnel or be pulled into it! I have one small area that they can't get to and that's where 90% of my bulb type plants are. Anyhow.... Maybe that's what Karen's issue is?
Oh boy - that's one problem I have not had to deal with, thankfully.
Definitely be thankful for it! I had never had gophers be an issue before moving to this place. I couldn't figure out how a plant could be there one day and entirely missing the next (hidden underground).
And, like the deer, they probably know to avoid any toxic ones.
I was raking this weekend and found all of 5 crocus that I forgot about. Very sparse. Victor's photos made me actually put "Buy bulbs" in my cell phone calendar for October! Must have more early spring flowering things.
Well, they have deer and rabbits in TX too. They have pretty much the same critters we have, with a few more thrown into the mix. Oh, and armadillos, which can really dig up a yard in their search for grubs. Feral pigs can also ruin a yard, garden. Would want critter fencing there for sure.
I know moles aren't my problem with the crocuses. Something is eating the flowers, and a good part of the foliage as well. The bulbs are still there. This has been happening the last few years.
Shelly, when I lived in Nevada we had gophers there, but they were never in my gardens. They were in the horse pasture at the back of the property, and my cats would go out there and hunt them.
Karen
close enough for you Victor???

Boy I wish mine were out in a pasture!! That would be great! I do have a stray cat that I let live right by the back door. it spends all day hunting, and I know it catches at least one or two a day as it leaves them as "presents" for me. However, I've had the stray for a couple of years now and I still have plenty of the creatures around.
Drumlin, glad that you found them. A nice surprise!
Your definitely right Victor, they don't know the difference between the toxic ones and the decent ones. Do they care? lol I will never tire of your pictures or anybody's!. You sprayed your critters today? Or the plants that they like?
Robin, that theory of yours makes perfect sense to me. You live near a dam project? is that a dam in the making? I would love to see pictures of whatever it is.
You're up late Allison. I think so anyways. Since, I usually see you on here at anywhere between 4:30 and 5:30 am!!
no this is normal... get into bed at 11
Robin, I, too, would love to see pics of the dam area where you walk. Sounds nice.
Karen
I'm usually up pretty late, too, though I really need more sleep than I get. I have to get up at 7, and I don't function well without 8 or 9 hours of sleep. I often go to bed sometime after 11.
Karen
wow, and up at 4:00 Am??
