Thanks and Great pics Victor! I agree. and.. I love the Dragons Eye!
Bill, I probably should have used the term "sport" instead of 'witches broom!' Sorry. I think that 'sport' is the proper term in that scenario. but, then when you throw the terms for mutant seedlings, then it's not the best term. Go figure! Anyhow.... It may be someday known as a white sport of 'Airy Fairy' :-p
Thanks Pixie and Robin! Robin... What do you think think your reincarnation was before?
Anita, at least you know well enough to appreciate such scenary! It's true that so many don't realize what beauty can be found even if you're in a busy metropolis or a mountain range. I know that thousands of car, trucks, semi's, pass by that spot everyday, to where I was standing. It's a short walk that can be seen from the highway. Most of the time I see no more than two or three cars in a day, most of the time... none. However, that does make it a nicer trip for me. What amazes me more though is that you have to cross over some railroad tracks and the railroad has even, marginally speaking, made it acceptable to walk over them. There's no fence there, they built a metal stair case to the tracks (not over), and a path on the other side, then it's just a 1/4 mi. of a wide open walk out to the vantage point. I've never ran into another person while there!
Jan, I'm sure that you could build a place very near there! I don't think that the Army Corpse of Eng. would allow you to build something up there. But hey, stranger things have happened!

Garden photos of '09.....#9
Proof I'm in a weird micro climate I drove through the town north of me and they have daffs blooming. I got nothing!
Ohhhhh.... that's to bad Jen. But hopefully that's a sign of good things to come soon. :-)
nice Victor
Bill - that is not what it looks like. As I said, the full sun was hitting it from the side, bleaching it out. It is beet red. I'll take another shot at a different time.
ok i'll compare your beet red to a guy here at work who's picture is in the dictionary next to the definition of beet red :)
and maybe i'll try to grab a photo of mine and the coral bark for comparison.
I have red-twig dogwood and this is about the same - only without the spots that the branches sometimes have on the dogwood, so it tends to be brighter.
i have red-twig as well - maybe it is because my kawa is still a pup. looking out the window right now the red-twig is a much redder shade than coral bark - can't really see from here how kawa stacks up due to its size
Shelly, your pics are wonderful, as usual. I especially love the one of the hellebore looking up towards the sun. I thought I commented on it last night, but I guess it never went through. Must have hit the wrong button. Gorgeous sunset shots!!!!!
Great scilla shot, Victor!
Speaking of reincarnations, not saying for sure whether I believe in them or not (though I think if they are real, then we have a choice about them), but if I had a past life it must have been in a desert somewhere, as I am so drawn to the desert southwest. Even before I lived in Arizona for 4 years I had often talked about a dreamed about moving there (especially during the dead of the cold winter months). And when I lived there I felt more at home than I ever felt here in MA, where I grew up. Someday I will make it back there.
Karen
That's interesting, Karen! I've always been drawn to rolling meadows; everytime I see pictures of them in Great Britain I just long to be there. Since my ancestors came from there, I still think it's some sort of inherited memory, if not exactly reincarnation. Someday I'd like to live in Pennsylvania, there's lots of rolling farmland in certain parts.
Has anyone spotted red-wing blackbirds? They're usually hanging out with the grackels and starlings about now, but nothing yet.
I haven't seen any yet. When I lived in Nevada they had yellow headed blackbirds there. They were really pretty. They also live among cattail reeds, just like the redwinged ones.
Karen
I have had huge flocks of them for weeks now. They're gobbling up a lot of birdseed. I need to restock. They tend to come in the afternoon, Red Wing Blackbirds with Grackles.
The desert longing and love comes from a visual phenomina.
When you see or are in any space or object (like a cathedral) the visual experience expands your sense of self and space.
Its a real thing , thats why people go on vacations to places other than where they inhabit, sometimes called ( change of scene)
The biggie for me was the Grand Canyon ,very humbling to say the least.
Jo Ann I meant to congratulate you on the Poppies!!! So glad they sprouted for you. I have some wintersown out in milk jugs, I hope I get something out of them.
Its so scarry when Ive never done this.
I'd love to see some life from "Fancy Feathers"
I cant help looking at them every day, more than once actullay.
So did I! Much congrats on those. Hopefully those others will come along very soon. I hate to say it but, I probably check on my seedlings 3 times a day. But I think that it's mostly out of amazement that they're alive!
3 x a day here too! lol
hahaha!
I keep looking for other pots to sho sprouts,it hasnt been a week since I brought them in from the garage. They were sown on the 6th and brought inside on the 20th, shoots appeared in 2 days, I am amazed for sure.
Wow, that's really good! 2 days is impressive. Sounds as if you have some really robust variety there.
congrats!
Princess Victoria Louise is really going great guns. The package had more seeds than the other varieties and was cheaper so I'm thinking its prolific.
oh boy and it's a real pretty one ... good for you
LOL did you see the plantfiles comment??.. that one belongs in the other thread with the plant descriptions
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57718/
The other varieties had less than 50 seeds per pk. PVL had 200, cant miss the middle of the pot with that many.
I try to sow a few(like5) seeds per pot of the varieties with less than 50.
PVL i just sprinkled at will and voila theres about tem sprouts pre pot.
Do I thin these out later?
how big is the pot?
wow onewish thanks for the link.
now i'll look up the others,Fancy Feathers,Corel Reef and Royal wedding.
I WS'ed Coral Reef
The two other OP's I found in PF said winter sow before first and last frost. I didnt have a spot for them so I sowed in the garage. Guess they germinate under any conditions.
That's a lovely poppy Jo Ann! Congrats. It sounds like you're going to have a few of them too!
I'm not counting my chickens just yet.
Princess Vic.Louise is the best bet so far.
Nice.
It WAS. lol I'm trying again, but from seed this time. I paid $8-$12 for the last one, seeds were much cheaper!
On the poppy subject - Its about super poppies. Some woman has worldwide rights, I guess? If you have any seeds use them wisely.
