Thanks, Deb!! No sacrifice is too big to get the shot!
I noticed when I looked at the photo of the beech that there is a strange zigzag branch. Here it is cropped a bit. It's in the middle.
Garden photos of '09.....#9
Nice, sunny pics of the yellow flowers, Anita! Love them!
That is a strange looking branch, Victor! Interesting. Watch out for that deer poop!!!!!
Karen
LOL Victor... you got your good luck splat for the year
For a few years.
Ohhhh Yuck! Sorry to hear that Victor. That's ucky. I can't tell from that picture, but do the smaller branches coming off of that zig zag branch have the same pattern? It sort of looks like it. If so, you should see if you can air layer that branch. Or cuttings at the very least!
Great pic Louise! My kitty says 'thank you!'
Hi RC Love the picks today
Do you know what this plant is?
DD bought it at HD yesterday.Palm of some sort. They were 12dollars each so she went for it. I'm affraid they need a shady spot.
my eyes arent great but I only see 1 bug, lil'spidy?
lil' spidy is the only one that I saw when I took the picture! lol
Neat Shelly.
Got an id on the palms?
an Id on the Palms...huh? Was I supposed to come up with an ID for something and forgot? lol, I do that pretty regularly. :-p

Absolutly wonderful.
Wish I could get down on the ground.
Those are fantastic,I even like the petals that are beginning to fade.
haha.. that's all right. I do that all the time! Or else I wouldn' have been concerned that i forgot to ID something that I had said I would. lol.
those are great looking palms! however, I'm of no help with those sorts of plants. Sorry. The only palms that I know are the hardy varieties.... all two of them. :-p I bet that someone will have an answer for you by the end of the day though.
You are right. Just thought I'd start with you.
I cant believe azaleas are blooming now. Its such a treat to see the spring really comming on ,we wont see them for a month.
Thanks! You're way too kind! I actually didn't have to get on the ground for that one. but close! I did on that other picture up above where I'm clearly looking up at a hellebore, then to top it off it didn't really come out all that well. So, it doesn't always help. lol
good to know I havnt missed anything!!!!
You would see that plant soon if it were there. I have one at home, it's about a week away from blooming. Those very early blooming varieties aren't well known and are fairly hard to find. The problem is that they try to bloom before really warmed up, then the buds get zapped by frost. I have one rhody (Lee's Scarlet http://www.rhododendron.org/descriptionH_new.asp?ID=944 ) that started trying to bloom about two weeks ago and it had that problem with the most recent round of snow. :-(
Nope.... Didn't miss a single thing! lol.
I have a red rhodie I only saw bloom at the nursery.
By the time they delivered it and put the fountin in the plant was out of bloom. It has a ton of buds and my fingers are crossed they are red, the nursery guy is pretty casual about tending to those details.
He spent years in a Zen center and doesnt let the business "push " him.
Its a bit frustrating but we just deal with it.
He hasnt updated his website since 2007 so if there are plants you want you have to go to the nursery to check for new stock and hope he 's there to help you.
He has a helper who is very knowlegable about perennials and has a good esthetic eye.
Oh wow, that could be sort of frustrating dealing with him at times. But, in other situations, that could be good. It's definitely good for him!
Glad to hear that it has lots of buds. It'll likely be at early to mid May for it to bloom. That's a "general" time frame for the red ones. But really, early May isn't all that far away now. Sort of scary! Lee's Scarlet isn't really scarlet, it's dark pink, that's how it ends up being so much earlier than the real red ones
I noticed the pink under the Scarlet name.
My rhodies are "Rocket" .
I chose that veriety because of the red tips on the leaves of the JM "Spring Delight"
Those should be a nice combination! Let me know if my guess on the bloom time comes true. I'm very curious!!!
You can bet I'll be taking pictures. Ive waited a year to se if the combo is right.
I just looked up Rocket believeing thats the one he wrote down on thesales sheet. "I'm skrewwed" Its Pink.
HOWEVER I am hoping he sent Vulcan which is the one I chose.
If Its pink I'll die.
The wto groups of rhosies were next to each other.
Now I'll obcess over this until May.
very nice shots RC
Beautiful shots, Shelly. Man - azaleas already?!! Nice. I saw some great looking rhodies and azaleas in the Rarefind catalog. I might get a small one.
That branch is too high for me!
Thanks Allison and Victor
lol, I highly doubt that any branch is too high for you Victor. Only the very earliest ones are in bloom right now. Lee's Scarlet, Airy Fairy, mucranulatum and it's ssp., Olive, Christmas Cheer, and maybe one other...... if you're thinking you want one to bloom with the crocus and daffodils! Given then the hardiness factor, that would leave just Lee's, Christmas Cheer, and I think the one I've forgotten. That makes it easy.
Jo Ann, if you want to know if you have Rocket or Vulcan, if yours are more than just a few years old you should be able to compare pictures on the internet with what you have. Rocket has large leaves, usually dark green, and upright growth habit (for a rhody). Vulcun has med sized leaves that are proportionately narrow, med. green - never dark green, and it's usually as wide as it is tall. So, I'm not sure if that will help or muddle things up. If they are still fairly young plants, the only difference that's easy to spot is in the leaves.
I'll check. The plants are new this year.
I'll take a picture and send.
sounds like a good challenge!
What I can say at the moment is: that's not Vulcan. It very well could be rocket. but, other rhody's do look similar to rocket so I can't say for certain that it's Rocket at this point.
SH- - I'm just fureous.
Doubt I'll buy from him again. It takes too much waiting for service and then they get it wrong.
If it blooms pink I will really have a melt down.
