Yes, it is nice to know. But I would have trouble inside it, I think. I have trouble in Mammoth Cave, so there you have it.
Hi Mary...I can't even climb to the top of bleachers...so I never got to see an entire team playing for any game. I guess Crissy's point is it is better to have your feet underground than to be blown to the top of the roof or a tree...maybe I'd be like Anjl and just faint till it was over, then climb out of wherever I ended up...if I could.
Hugs...
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #94visit with friends..
how long does tornado season last for you? sorry about the dumb questions... I just never had any idea what you all go thru ! with hurricanes and tornados...about all I know is the damage that they show after they hit. how much warning do you get ahead of time?
I ended up spending the night in my laundry room because of a training storm, had 4 tornado warnings in a 3 hour period, one of those hit just 3 miles away in an area that had never been hit before, another one dropped very large hail on the house but thankfully it never touched down. Every room and closet in this house is connected to an outside wall, so it's very unsafe. For some reason Arkansas doesn't have many tornado shelter builders in this area so I just bought one of these, I feel safe in it for the most part, but it still doesn't take away the fret of loosing your house. But of course everything like that is replaceable, we are not.
Well, Hello, good Evening! Night shift.
Oh my gosh...Shar, lol I got scared in Mammouth cave too, and yikes I think it is bigger than Crissy's shelter.
Crissy as long as you feel safe sweetie, then all is good. Hopefully you don't have to use that much!
Not sure how long I'll be up tonight, but glad i got to say HI to the "night shift" lol.

Hello Judy...
Yep, mammoth cave is not for the faint of heart.
that is so true... houses can be replaced.how long do you have to spend inside the shelter? if you have warnings over a 3 hour period..would that mean you have to stay down there for 3 hours?
I do have trouble with high bleachers....Can't even look at photo's of high places....
Sharran / Anjl- have you ever seen those emails of pics taken during the depression of the guys who built those New York Skyscrapers?
I can hardly look at those on my computer. They truly take my breath away. If you haven't seen them I'll be tempted to google and send them to you but shouldn't because you will probably have the same reaction that I do....
Crissy - was it during a storm that the cat put 'lizzie' out? or were you just down there for another reason....
At Grandparent's in FL, they had a Bomb Shelter....(It's still there, a cousin bought the house). I remember looking down there and it seemed to be quite the place to store the canned green beans & such.
I have never seen a bomb shelter, but we had root cellars, always dug out beneath the house. That was scary enough for me.
No, not dumb at all, I didn't know anything about them a year ago, remember I moved from Central California almost 2 years ago, I was told Arkansas didn't have tornadoes, that's why in April the state had had 30, and it holds the record for having the second longest running tornado in the history of the US from beginning records around 1920 or so, which happened pretty far North of me last year. The state ended up having 80 to 100 tornadoes last year, the yearly average is 26 tornadoes.
Oh we watch the radar, like my mom lives in Oklahoma City and she's getting hammered right now, I've been watching the radar for a few hours. Thank Heavens the tornadoes have died so there are no warnings. It's hard to tell, you can have a tornadic storm coming directly at you but say two counties away, the wind can change and it can go North or South and miss you completely.
Normally tornado "season" lasts from March to June and we get about 10 to 30 minutes notice before the storm hits, and it only lasts about 5 minutes and you're out of the shelter.
Hey...
Nope, But I remember the mammouth...scared me to death in many part and awed me in just the opposite.
Shar! You doing OK? Saw your new couch, very pretty. Wondering my friend, your not overdoing it are you? You get some rest too. well, lol, as much as you see to it.
Where is Trisha...Hi.
Let me See Crissy, what are you up to, think I saw you were adding something, Leeks! Cool. I think i just love watching new gardeners! You are just so cute.
I just opened the shelter to air it out some, it was very new and smelled like chemicals, and there Lizzie was! Tiga ran after it, played for a few then carried it outside and put it down.
I have a storm radio and I get alerts from accuweather.com when there's any type of weather that NOAA issues, advisories, watches, and warnings. I also have a thing that the local NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX do where they call you when there's a storm headed directly at your house or whatever address you have given them. I get notification LOL
LOL Mary a bomb shelter! I had a guy try to sell me one of those, it had 3 rooms and a hallway, then stairs and a short hallway above ground, and 3 doors to get out from. It was made with 16" of cement and he wanted $16,000! I said I don't think so, I'll take a normal shelter for $2,000 thank you!
Lizzie??? Uhm, what is a Lizzie?
Sorry, but Name sorta scares me! I am A Nnut that way...
LOL, a lizard, yikes ..Im a shakin here!
I love lizards, son had an iguana once, it loved my hair. Drove me nutz.
LOL A little green lizard
The scary thing about tornadoes is that they bounce around like a Dodge Ball.
We've lost several huge trees and branches to tornadoes and you can see around the neighborhood their quirky path....
Where are the mammoth caves? Is it like Carlsbad?
I keep jumping over to a Disneyworld blog. I love Disney but we can't go this year. (DH won't let me go every year.)
Does anyone have fun vacation plans for this year? Just wondering. I have none...this is unusual for me.
Hugs,
Mary
That's too cute - the cat put the lizard "outside". and didn't harm him. :)
but with only 10 minutes warning...well what if your on the way to the store etc... ?
I think I like the idea of earthquakes better lol! by the time they hit, they are over :o) no time to worry and fret first lol!
I don't have any, which is normal lately. Dave's company is laying off left and right so he probably won't take the time off, and I'm trying to get my vacation time built up some.
So we're supposed to get severe weather tomorrow between 3 and 7pm, the worst time of day for a storm to come through because of the heat from the sun. Nice.
By the way, I hate elevators but work on the 7th story of an 18 story building, I can look out the window but if I even think about going out on the roof, which is off of the 2nd floor, I freak. I don't do ladders even if it's attached to a cement wall, planes don't bother me, sitting in bleachers doesn't bother me too bad just as long as I don't look behind me and just focus on the seats and stairs going up. Needless to say I don't rock climb or anything that has to do with being high up on something unless it's very very big and extremely secure.
I have to go to bed, gotta work tomorrow. If anyone has any more questions about tornadoes or shelters let me know, no question is dumb.
LOL Just dart for the nearest door frame!
Oh ...that is cute!
WE have some Lizards! They are contained! heheh, I can show you one.
Um,lol can't remember if it is Bert...or Ernie!
Julia's newest pets! one anyway.
Whew , you are all way on different typers , lol meaning faster then me....I'll catch up, uh sooner or later...ROFLOL.(might be in dream) hehee
mammoth cave is a natural cave in KY, about 80 miles from me. A popular vacation spot, where I had wanted to meet Judy one time, and couldn't. They were on their way to Florida.
Anjl - we usually have some warning prior because of course it's stormy and raining outside and the winds are picking up. I'm just speaking from a Louisiana perspective though....Arkansas may be different.
I remember many times being scared of tornadoes...staying in the hallway in the middle of the day with DS at daycare and not able to go get him and bring him home...
That was many years ago - but hated the thought that he was there and not with me....so a memory
Generally you're not going to the store because you see on radar this thing coming and you know that there are tornado warnings associated with it. It's not like there's not a cloud in the sky then suddenly from out of no where your in the middle of a tornado. If you watch any kind of news program at all or on line at all you know when there could be tornadoes. I heard a minute ago there were 9 Unconfirmed tornadoes throughout Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota today, that's a small outbreak.
I am here....trying to get everyone fed...
NIght NIght Crissy !!!
I'm deathly afraid of tornadoes, but not near as bad as I was last year! Last year, I kid you not, a tornado could have been in North Carolina heading East (of course) and I was literally freaking out. I am extremely afraid of tornadoes, like what's in OK heading this way, that's got my stomach in a knot.
LOL I used the cloud thing a few posts ago because that is actually what I thought!
Oh I was going to say something, didn't have anything to do with weather, I forgot! Darn it.
Trisha - a late dinner? or pets?
Family....Laura and Sage and Bill.....we generally eat anywhere from 7 to 9 depending on Bill's work schedule...class schedules etc.....
Crissy, honey...I am hugging you tight.
I understand your fear. It's something to just know, we are all here for you.!
Hugging you big and tight. I am so sorry, for this kind of fear.
I have some fears that have chased me from hae made me crawl under cover and literally run aw3ay from home.
So , Yep scared as we are...Let us stick together!! Hug eachother up, fer-o-cious-ly!!
Love you all...
Uhm, think I need to read and sleep.
How is Sage settling into the new home?
Sage is doing fine.....we are starting her in a new Rock Climbing Class tomorrow....that gives her something to do two days a week. It will better when the weather gets nice and she can walk to my house.
Wow - that is really cool....that will be something for Sage to really get involved with.
I'm headed to bed....NIght Night ya'll!
Hugs,
Mary
