Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #94visit with friends..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I've never made Leek soup, or anything else with Leek. I was looking at pictures of what they look like when they're ready to be picked, 3 of them are ready now! I'll pick one and check into that Leek and Potato Soup. YUM!

I found daffodils that were buried under so many weeds they were yellow and wrinkly looking. They're in my front flowerbed soaking up that sun! There's no way they'll bloom this year, but next year they will.

You'd laugh at me, I'd be using the sewing machine on the slowest setting it had! I can't wait to see pictures of what you have accomplished today.

Crissy, you might be surprised, they might be appreciative and one just might bloom for YOU!

That brat Stacey stuck her tongue out as I was taking a photo of her sewing....

Crissy I brought home several plants when doing const.
I would ask first if they wanted them..Those that did usually already had moved their plants

Betty glad you Stacey or having such a good time..
You'll both hate to see your time come to an end..
But it's only a tank of gas away..LOL

Tornado Warnings around..Very Windy
Right now SUN is shining
I think I'm safe..

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

tubby, do be careful! I'd be terrified if there were tornado warnings here lol!

betty, I love those butterflies! can you dmail or email me the pattern? I think I have some free time on weds :o) lol! just might cut out some butterflies lol! Do you use them as garden spikes with the rebar?
Dr appt today was for my sciatica...they will just refer me over to therapy.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh wow I Love those butterflies!!
LOL Stacey!

Terry my mom is 30 minutes South of OKC, from the looks of it there might be a cell that goes directly over her house. I'm sure it's moved past you by now? Do you have a safe room or storm shelter?

Here's the Leek, they're looking pretty drab right now. The big ones are ready to eat so I've read online.

The butterflys are ownderful. They will look great in any garden.
I don't know about letting Stacey use your sewing machine, I know that you have one with all the bells and whistles. Mine is just a simple one and she will be spoiled by yours.
Have her get plenty of sleep tonight. Don't want her falling asleep on the drive home.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Terry we had so many tornadoes last year, as my first full year here, I put in a shelter, and you know I've had to use it 3 times since I had it put in last June.

I'm glad you have a basement, and I'm sure that if there was something headed directly at your house you'd use it.

Hello To All;

Welcome "Night Shift"! It'll be later for me tomorrow night since American Idol will be on.

Anjl - I totally understand your situation with DS....mine was similar but different.....I remember my mom telling me to never put DS bio-dad in any negative light....it'll all come around and DS will eventually see him for who he is.
That all came around about 3 years ago (around age 14!). DS can't stand bio-dad now and it has absolutely nothing to do with me. BD does stupid things like forgetting DS bday year after year...then about 2 months ago all of a sudden wants to be a good dad again...so invites DS to his baby girls bday party....not smart!

Betty - well work goes okay now just as long as I can keep from taking it seriously. :) SO I write in my daytimer "Don't take it seriously" and as long as I can follow that advice....I'm okay. They have a kid who didn't make it in sales giving us afternoon "Sales Training"....and I've only been making a living in sales for 21+ years....I'm supposed to be learning from this omnipotent know-it-all. Funny thing is...he knows I know enough of his background to know he's a sham....he acts scared to talk to me and I delete all his emails without responding and he never questions it.... HA !

So I spent today's "Sales Seminar" writing down all the names of the kids that came to the party and counted them up....we had 28 Teens in our Pool! Yes - I'm still excited.

Probably the best part (Forgot to tell you all) was that the day after....when we came home from the LSU Spring Garden Show....DS had - on his own initiative- cleaned up the backyard! I hadn't even asked him to ! (Tear!) He's growing up!

Crissy - the Leek & Potato soup sounds delicious. I eat Potato soup almost every week. (Campbells). Is Leek more like an onion?

Tubby - are you staying safe? Crissy - maybe you need to fill me in on building a shelter...I just told DH we're building one...

Well - Hope to hear from you all!

Hugs,
Mary

Wow - I had no idea they had pre-made basements! That's a pretty big tree in the first picture...we had a bunch that size in the neighborhood fall with Hurricane Gustav....

Is it sturdy if a tree falls on top? I would have to choose between phobia's.

Tree falling on house phobia vs. claustrophobia....

Not sure which would win....

You would definitely need your cell phone with you..
CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW..LOL

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm with you Mary... I get claustrophobic in elevators...have to close my eyes and do deep breathing just to get up 2 floors in the durn thing...

crissy... do you have to go out in a storm to get to the shelter? do they give you enough warning before the storm comes? I've never been in that situation...so just wondering how it works. I'd probably just panic and faint and come to after the thing passed lol!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Ya'll are hilarious! The last one I took of it was in October. I need about a dumptruck load of dirt for it.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

claustrophobia...yep, I can already feel it.

I would not be able to breathe, and now with the added thought of a tree blocking the exit.....nope. I would have to tap my red shoes right along with Dorothy.

Hello Night Shift...

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

You cover it with dirt???????

O no, I would feel buried alive...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Forgot the picture

NOOOOO, Crissy...it looks like a grave...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

It's a fiberglass storm shelter, supposed to be covered in dirt. Here's the inside. It holds up to 13 adults.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

It's no different than the cement storm shelters. I have a couple of lights, blankets, a sleeping bag, fans, and word searches and I think my good book is in there too.

Oh and pillows! I take Tiga down there too. It's either that or be in a house that is far from tornado safe. I'd rather be in that then have my house fall in on top of me. There was a truck that lost a load of these going 65 on the freeway, none of them broke.

How does the air get in it?

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello Night Shift!

Yay - Sharran is here! Hello my special friend!

crissy - seriously - it's a good thing to know that these exist!

Anjl - Me too claustrophobic, plus afraid of heights! (agorophobic? trying to remember 8th grade English). (hey why did we study phobias then anyway?!!?!)

And I get the pleasure of riding an elevator with windows to the 6th floor everyday for work!

Terry - Hello? I can't hear you? Hello? Hello? Must be all the ground cover I planted on top of the darn thing!

"Clicking my heels three times". :)

Hugs,
Mary

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Those two things that look like smokestacks are air vents. I think from the picture it looks like just one. I was in there during a wind storm and you can feel the air blowing, plus the inside is white which helps. Last summer a lizard got in there and my cat picked it up and put it outside, it was very much alive. I thought it was too cute!

Let me see if I can find a better picture that shows the vents.
