tis the season

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

They are new for me. I ordered them from John Scheepers and planted them last fall. I will definitely add more next year. They sure are cute little pixies. I think they would look great nestled at the base of a tree.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I agree, very nice and I know which tree. Hee he he

Lucy - how long does the bloom last - say, compared to crocus??

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I am a bad momma.... I found some crocus, and a bare root hosta... I bought to plant last fall... and didn't get to...forgot all about them... I stuck them in some soil in the house... SIGH... my bad

It happens.

they can be planted out later wont hurt them lol

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I was glad to see the hosta was not moldy in the little baggie it came in... had to see my face when I was rooting around in the basement and saw the box... made me cringe

I wanted saffron... got the saffron... didn't plant the saffron

South Hamilton, MA

I haven't timed the indiviual flower re to crocus. We plants them about 25 at a time, although KH are more expensive, probably because it is a species cross. Our best grower is 'Harmony" a deeper blue. Alan Mc Whirter from Canada who hybridizes them says replace every 2-3 years, 'Harmony' has lasted longer than that, althought we replaced our batch last year. They are able to bloom longer according to each variety--ours are planted under a Cornelian cherry tree,

Thanks Lucy. I need to consult with you at fall bulb buying time!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Me too..thank you for the info!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

most root left in the basement (unfinished ) will survive the winter down there since that is what they do with them to store them for sale

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Beautiful crocus, Victor! Alas, I had a big patch of the really small purple ones, and then the stinkin' deer ate them! Or maybe it was rabbits. Do rabbits like crocus? They get eaten every year. I never get a chance to spray them before it happens.

Love that iris, Dyane. I don't have any of that kind. Someday.....

Here are some pics of my snowdrops. I have hundreds!

A reflection on our seasonal pond in the back. This pond is the drainage for the water that the sump pump brings up from the cellar. I wish it was full all year. I suppose I could buy a liner for it.

so pretty, you have worked very hard on your property I can appreciate that since I keep doing all the work and then selling we are now doing it for the third time I told DH this is it I retire after this one so if there is a next time he is on his own
I have already over 400 seedlings and about 500 more to go since the place really needs flowers in them flower beds lol since most are empty from lack of care so we are filling them up and we will see if anymore need to go in but deal with what we have first and I want a pond a real big one lol I am now stamping my feet hahhahahah

why is it called swamp maple is that literal

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

You would love having a pond. They really are nice. I have put so many plants in my gardens over the years, and this year I'm starting about a billion seedlings, so they will be full to overflowing. I won't have anymore room!

Here are some buds on my hellebore 'Ivory Prince'. It has a lot of buds. This one has done fantastic for me.

very nice pic just a little to cold for heleborus in my area
they dont do well maybe I try again

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I don't know, but maybe cause it's often found in swampy areas, though I've read that it is adaptable to a wide range of conditions, more than any other tree in N. America, and it's found from near the border of Ontario and Montana, east to Newfoundland, south to Miami, FL, and west to eastern Texas. The botanical name is Acer rubrum, and it's also known as Red Maple or Soft Maple. Leaves are typically red in the fall, though this one gets yellow leaves, so is not as pretty. I just love it. It's huge.

I was asking since the trunk looked just like the maple I have and boy do I have maples 2.5 of them and a few silver birch and a few everygreen cedar and spruce but mostly I have red and green maples probably about two or three thousands of them they are such beautifull majestic trees I love them they give great shade and I like the sound the leaves make in the breaze

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Those may be Norway maples, Mona. They come in both the red and green, but their leaves are predominately yellow in the fall. They turn later than the swamp maples do, too. From what Wikipedia shows, they don't grow in Cananda (the swamp or red maples). Too cold for them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_maple

southern ontario is full of red maples and sugar maple and green maples lol we have to many maples ahhahahahahahah
