The swamp maples' leaves are scarlet in the fall. I think Norway maples are European trees (too late at night to look it up) They are now banned in MA.
Garden photos of '09.....#7
great pictures Karen!! So artistic and thoughtful. I love the pond pics.
Mornin RC
good morning!
no pictures from here. not even a crocus thats for April.
that's too bad. Hopefully soon.
First recorded crocus April3 '08 tulips at the end of the month.
Watch the thin ice Sherrie
definitely! I can't imagine gauging the weather by the frozen lakes!!
I'll go on record now
Some fool will make the news for doing something brainless and make the rescue squad risk their own lives getting them out of harms way.
RC I was just wondering how the Lambs ears were doing?
I agree completely Schicken about not going out on that lake!! That's just wrong. It amazes me that someone would tempt that fate out on thin ice!
So far so good. Which is great! I checked on them the other day, just before the snow, and they were still aslee, but good!! They're tenacious plants, that's for certain.
I never realized how lively they were.
DD has them in her garden.
An indication of why she has her own garden is,she doesnt dead head the 20 year old clumps that have grown into the lawn. Drives me nuts.
BUT its her garden to do with as she likes.
Thanks for the compliments of my photos, Shelly. I'm really loving my new camera.
Karen
Nice. Looks like you took some interior branches.
when I sold my house the new owner said the landscaping made the sale lol
but when I went back to visit friends a year later I wanted to cry since she had not kept up the property and everything was a mess, why would someone want a beautifull garden if they dont want to maintain it lol everything was done and it was minimal work to keep it up
good eye - basically anything that was under-lapping got cut out - tried not to make it too "thin" at the same time
lookin good Bill!
Karen, what kind of camera did you get?
wow someone has been busy
I don't hold to any fast rules on pruning them. Always take out any branches that rub others. As for interior branches in general, it depends on what impact it has on the look once the leaves are out. Often nature takes care of it - if they get shaded out, the branches will die off.
well the "expects" over at the jm forum were encouraging me to trim it more - especially the right side - it is nice to see the trunk/branch shape
that is up to you trimming trees is in the eye of the gardener you could trim off half of what is there now make the branches shorter and give it a tidier look but that is up to you
since you said that it had not been done in years in my opinion wait and see what it looks like and see how crowded it looks and you can trim more as the summer goes on and then trim again in the fall
all in good time
Bill that's what the RU's are for... giving out the extra you can't use
:)
for sure
Luvly structure on the cq wha. Be one with the cq ommmmm. That's how I prune my woodys ommmmmmm.

like I said its in the eye of the gardener how things get pruned that is why no two gardens will ever be alike
Shelly, I got a Fuji Finepix S2000HD.
Karen
dnut you crack me up - not sure if i was one with the cq - it has taken me 3 trips with the trimmers to get it to this point - i'm happy with the one in front - the one in back has some filling in to do over the next few years before more is done
i plan to post the pic for comment on the jm forum
ok Dnut.... when do you start your dahlia?... I can't remember when I did last year
Loved the photos---have nothing blooming---daffs & star-of-Bethlehem, allium & hyacinths all up---no crocus--hope they're not gone, but I had no Autumn crocus this fall near where the others are--hungry chippies?
probably hungry squirrelies! I don't know though. At least in my yard, if the moles and gophers doin't eat the bulbs, it's the squirrels that take them.
Karen that camera looks like a really good one. you'll have a lot of fun with it, that's for sure.
Snowdrops planted last fall heaved. Older ones in bloom. Probably should not have planted the new ones so close to the house, ground may have thawed & refrozen in the warmer area.
