hung a wind chime today high in a tree after cleaning it out of broken branches - spring is here to stay - i hope :)
Garden photos of '09.....#7
I have a single crocus bloom today. New growth spotted here and there. Did at lot in the yard and garden to clean up. And then sat in the sun on the deck with a cup of coffee. Very nice day.
woo hoo
nothing yet some bulbs are just poking out but I figure another two or three weeks before I see any flowers
DH reports lots of crocus starting to bloom in Nantucket at our house, plus more reticulated Iris. He sent me some snaps from his cell phone, so I know it is true. No narcissus yet in our yard, but some in town. Patti
Debilu, I worked in the yard a few hours late this afternoon myself. I got some gardens cleaned up, as well as a couple of my sales areas. What I did looks so much nicer now. I cut back the foliage on my hellebores, and they have a lot of nice buds. Thrilling! It was so nice to be working in the gardens again. I will be out there again tomorrow doing more clean-up work and burning. Woo hoo!!!!!
Something is eating my crocuses. Deer or rabbits, I don't know which. The past few years this has happened. I don't get to enjoy them much.
Karen
Karen, what do you mean by your sales areas?
I sell plants, so I have a few areas in front where I keep all the pots.
Karen
and is it profitable, im thinking of doing something like that to
So far it has not been profitable. I make a little here and there, but I spend more on my gardens than I make in sales. I'm hoping to have a lot more variety to sell this year with all the seeds I'm starting, if I'm successful with those seeds, that is, and I also want to sell at a local farmer's market. This is if we don't sell the place and move to Texas. In that case I will have to start over.
Karen
but you would still have all your seeds right, I never plant all of them I always plant some and keep some for the next year just in case I dont get seeds of the ones I planted
ahhh.... how interesting Karen. I sure hope that it works out for you and this season goes better. Sort of a rough time to be getting established. But, if you get through this year, then the others should go better!
all you have to do is under cut the local garden center lol and people will remember
Oh, I do undercut the local garden centers, but I don't get a lot of traffic on my road, and I don't really advertise. I've been doing this a number of years now. Hoping to do better this year. It's a lot of work keeping all the pots watered. This year I'm planning on repotting everything to refresh the soil and add organic fertilizer and those water holding pellets to cut down on watering. Hopefully that will work well.
Karen
Well, I sure hope that this year goes better for you!!!! that's sure a lot of work.
Wow, Karen! That's a lot of work, love, and devotion to be able to have your own little garden shop. I admire you. One thing your customers will get that most other places don't offer is good, sound, gardening advice!
True, Candyce, very true.
Karen
Beautiful! I keep thinking I have more crocus than I apparently really do. There were a few when I moved here, but I think the chipmunk finishd them off. This fall I'm going to go get more, everyone's pictures are making me very envious. The daffodils are really shooting up, but they're so buried in oak leaves I didn't think they survived until I went peeking under the leaves. Gad, I hate oak trees.
No sign of our crocus as yet, even the ones up next to the house where they get heat bounce.
Very nice Victor.
great pics Victor. Especially that last one, it almost looks as if there's a flame in front of them. neat effect!
Nice Victor. I have quite a few in bloom today.
Thanks all!
nice pictures victor most of my snow is gone by next weekend something should show up I hope most of the ice is gone just need a few more day of sun or some rain to finish with this white stuff for this year
great photos victor
everything is melting here - still have a pretty good snow cover in back - and still burning brush and limbs from the ice storm - climbed up in trees with a 24' ladder and the 16' pole saw to trim off all the broken branches i could reach - wife not too happy about this chore - and boy do i have a LOT of wood chips to rake up from all the chain saw work i did
Thanks, Bill and Mona. Wow - that's high, Bill.
victor you give me hope that it will be spring like tomorrow
today I went out for breakfast and on the way back drove by the river
it was covered in canada geese thousands of them
I used my sisters camera and took some amazing pictures will post them this week when she sends them to me
very nice Victor... the hellebores sometimes look like chicken feet to me
Yes - that too.
lol
Chickens feet.... hmmm. I never thought of that. But, they do.
Bill, good grief!! have you ever considered letting nature take it's course? Eventually those branches will come down on their own, probably years later, and there won't be any chance that we'll loose you do to a ladder mishap!!
