Cool beans! A baby!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i'd let that one grow a bit more victor - I bury both hydrangea and rody branches intentionally for that purpose - congrats have you thought of a name?

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

I noticed the same thing happened on one of my Hydrangeas. I was wondering if I should pot it up or just leave it until it gets larger.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I wasn't going to cut it yet. Sometime later this year. Let it grow a bit, Dyane.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

dyane with all that land your looking to fill i would bury multiple branches of hydrangeas and rody's :)

That IS exciting although I hope the lilacs here stay asleep for a bit longer.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah Victor!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks ladies. It is encouraging!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

hydrangeas also make babies just from the roots I have a huge patch in the front of my house it started as one 10 inch pot and now its about 12 feet across lol but this plant is about 20 years old and I now have to more it,

I have a question how do they take to being moved and when is the best time to move them ????

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Best time for most deciduous shrubs is while dormant.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Alot of shrubs that old don't move well. I'm also interested to know if you move a hydrangea that old.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

well its getting moved as soon as the ground thaws enough to dig last summer it became impossible to use my front door lol so it has to go to a new home that has enough space I think we are going to take it out is sections and make somekind of hedge out of it further down away from the front door hahahah so I dont have to feel like walking in a jungle to find the door knob

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i had a mop head that grew three bushes an had no problem moving them after blooming - victor is right though move them now if possible

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

lol I have tundra will have to wait if they dont bloom this year its ok I have lots of patience next year will be fine so many canes they are everywhere it is going to be an all day job since I figure we will have to go two feet down to get most of it

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

That aint no crocus is it?

Port Washington, NY(Zone 7a)

No, it's known as a species, orchid, or reticulate Iris The name is 'Katherine Hodgkin'. My crocus are a little behind these.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Gorgeous, Dyane! Congrats.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

That's really pretty Dyane! I had never seen that iris until just about a week ago, in someones garden, and i was drooling over the lovely blue colors it has. Then I forgot the name. So, thanks for reminding me now as it's one to put on my list!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

so cute Dyane!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Do you plant them in the fall??

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Checked my photos last year and see that the crocus first bloomed on the 10th so it's pretty close, even with the colder winter.

South Hamilton, MA

Yes for fall planting for all I. reticulata. Our Katherine H doesn't show signs of growth as yet. We worry a bit each yr. as it is on the chipmunk hill.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And do they generally bloom before the crocus?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

the first photo I have of a crocus from last year is 3/25

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - hard to believe I was two weeks ahead of you!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

it is strange huh?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Lovely picture Dyane, thank you!!
I've always thought of them as the Fairies Iris because of their height and only a Pixie or Fairy Dust could get something to bloom so early.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

i like that!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Not to mention they are blue, must be magic to have a blue spring flower. lol

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

indeed!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I need to plant some crocus.
I've always loved that Katherine Hodgkins.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too. The flower ain't bad either.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Good Grief! Spring Fever Victor?????
