I was to place them and take care of them. This is the last one. Hard.

Tubby sorry to hear your news..condolences to the family..
AnnMarie, how is the pouring coming along, must see photo's..Jeannine did a wonderful job with hers, I purchased the brick mold, no luck, so must purchase the cobblestone one and try it before giving up...
Snow on the ground, wind has died down and Betty slept in, so got to rush and get my projects together for genesis class tonight...keeping me hopping...

It's been a long while since I joined in. Going to try to read and catch up. Best thing I learned today: I can always count on my DG friends. Worst thing: ? Don't want to focus on that.
love, julie
BRRRR it's cold out there..
Article says:
Build a bluebird house..attract these beautiful birds to your yard with this well-designed house
Bluebird populations declined during the first half of the last century as habitat loss and the introduction of 'pest' bird species claimed many of the bluebird's natural nesting sites.
Now however bluebirds are making a dramatic comeback thanks to thousands of dedicated folk who have put up bluebird nesting boxes..
Dedicated folk (must mean us right?)
Oh Julie how wonderful to see you drop in..no need to catch up, we'll keep you busy with our chat...DG friends are the best 'sweetie' always there in support of each other..you'll find some of the nicest loving people here...bit crazy at times, but no harm is ever meant...
No need to focus on the negative today Julie, we'll make you smile - promise...

Tubby laughing because you are making all those planters...on msn with Sharon my sister, said I was going to pick up wood to do some boxes..first thing she types, 'I need 4'...she's talented and can do most things but finds it easier to have someone else do them, know anybody like that? always says she's bored...shaking my head/hands on hip!
Morning! You all have been so busy. Me it seems like I just go to work and it is only part time! LOL But it sure is fun reading all you do.
Tubby enjoy the jokes. Love the stuff you build. Gave my DH the Stuff to make me a rain chain oh a couple of weeks ago. He is still figuring out how he wants to do it. I think he is concentrating on the mustang he is working on!
Liz how is the new girl doing? Our 2 asst. managers work good one day and the next zjp! So that is the same. I am not a lemon person but it sure would be fun to grow them. I am always up to trying to grow something new.
Sharran saw the bluebirds. They are so pretty. I have up some houses and they do get used. I want to put up some more and have also been thinking of purple martins. Love the swallows also.
Straw Bale forum is very interesting. I live in cow country and straw is hard to find. They mostly use it.
I'd better get going. I can see I won't be getting much done before I go to work today!
You all have the day you need!
Oh Wonder Hug! TRy a site called Collections etc. They had the neatest Mermaid for the bathroom.
Some days Vicki don't you find you just go/go/go and at the end of it you wonder what you did to fill in the day?
LOL I'm sure that Mustang takes priority over rain chain...when I went to the new garden art store here in Barrie last week, they had a beautiful one, made of copper I believe, about 4 or 5' long..think it was like $100. though..most likely because of the copper..I'll have to check it out again...
OHHHH just got an e-mail from the Canadian Embassy....re my request for Tour of the White House...
here it is..
Hello Betty. Yes I am the contact person for this. Can you give me your phone number and the age of your grandchildren? Then I will send your request when they reopen.
Best regards
Laura I'm still suffering from whatever is wrong with me, the dr thinks it's a virus that lasts 8 to 10 weeks, this is the 5th week. What's really weird is it went away for 5 days, now it's back again.
Jorge got voted off Idol, Jasmine and Jorge.
The car lots are coming out losses. It's a downhill flow, recession comes, people panic and stop spending money, puts the businesses at risk because of no income, they have sales to bring people in, about half the clients comes back for the sales but they're still at a loss because it's only half the business they usually get plus everything is on sale, company still can't take it and files bankruptcy and goes under. That's why people should not stop spending money! I know I haven't LOL
morning,
vicki, oh she is a doll the only problem i have is she sticks to me like glue lol i will load her up a cart but she always comes to mine and helps me put mine away lol
i just dont have the heart to tell her she needs to work on her own..
she is so funny she interogates me daily on what would you do? omg this one is going totally drain me! its like the kid who always ask why lol.
laura, oh i hope you feel better soon my goodness you have had a rough time hugs to you
how is the little furry doing getting big, and how is the grand daughter doing..

Good Morning.
ROFLOL, that first Dger is a hoot! what fun chuckle this AM.
Hi Ya Ves! How is the winter sowing going? LOL, I have be sewing too. Now that that project is done moving on to something else...can't decide what. Maybe a Birdhouse for the bluebird.
So, are you working in the Greenhouse yet?...How funny used all three so,ew &ow's in one sentence!
Haha, I should become a writer or something.lol.
Mary, wanted to let you know, that yes we have lots of Robins. They fly South in winter so when they fly back home then We know Spring is here! A friend of mine celebrate with an ice cream sundae at the first sighting! Me, I just jump up and down in excitment...I once fed a baby robin and it came back to my yard for a couple of years. Never flew away from me. Named it tracker, and I swear the next season it built a nest in my deck light...
Betty, thats kind of a wierd message. What the heck does that mean when they re-open?
Liz, yep, I did find my phone. Hey, are you planning a trip to visit Betty?? Why are you saving pennies? See how nosey I am.
Speaking of traveling, where the heck is Stacey? oh youhoo...are your lost in fabric?
Hope you are doing well.
Waiving Hello Wonderhug, poor baby sending you a big hug to feel better. Yikes that just is awful, glad you are getting better.
Trisha, you almost back to your self? LOL, that frog site is cute. I have two frogs, Liz and i made them and i still have to rub them green! Oh well, maybe thats what i should do today.
OK...WellI better get a cup of coffee and lets see if i can find a picture of my frogs!
Judy, apparently since the inauguration the White House has been closed for tours..I've been searching the thread for when they will re-open, can't find anywhere on the White House site when it will be open for tours..drats, sure hope it is and they can get me in...
Crazy kind of day here...
Trying to find out who wrote the article so I can post it....can't find it..
Was in Handyman One-Day backyard projects...best I not show you the water feature....
I'll continue for those who might make some...
Nesting sites and boxes:
Bluebirds hunt for their food on the ground, so they prefer pastures, meadows and other areas with low-cut grass interspersed w ith a few scattered trees. In populated areas, they'll nest off golf courses, cemeteries, highway and utility rights-of-way, parks and pastures.
Busy urban areas, densely wooded areas and intensively farmed areas (where there's a lack of natural habitat) are some of their least favored nesting spots.
Here, you'll see how to build on tried-and-true nesting box design, the Peterson bluebird box. It has an opening precisely sized for bluebirds which helps exclude unwanted European starlings, plus it's easy to clean out. As you can see from the design photo pulling out the locking nail on one side allows the front of the house to tilt open for inspection and cleaning. This house can be made for three speciest of bluebirds, eastern, western and mountain, although the dimensions we give are for the eastern and western special.. Mountain bluebirds need larger ( 1 1/2 in. x 2 1/4 in) entry hole..
Materials Needed...
You can use a variety of woods and plywood as long as they're weatherproof and NOT pressure treated. Pine of cedar boards, exterior lywood, even hardboard house siding can all be used. You can stain or paint the outside of your bluebird boxes a light color (gray or brownish graey), but always leave the inside and the edges of the entrance hole unfinished.
The materials for your house will cost from $5. to $10. Experienced woodworkers can build one of these in an hour or two and even novices should be able to build one in an afternoon....
DO THEY MEAN US????
Installation and maintenance
Bluebird houses should be installed either in late fall or early spring. Place them in paris, 20 to 30' apart with 300 ft between pairs. Placing them in pairs provides on nesting place for bluebirds and another for tree swallow and other birds who might otherwise compete for a single spot (with the bluebird often losing out!). Spacing the pairs 300 ft. apart
also gives territorial bluebirds the proper amount of space they need between each breeding pair. Keep the houses 200ft. from bushes and tress and if house wrens take over the boxes, move them even farther away from trees and shrubs..
Wooden fence posts and metal T-posts are acceptable for holding houses but a baffle should be attached if cats, racoons and other predators are present. The best way to mount the houses is on a 7ft. piece of PVC pipe.
In the fall, clean out the boxes and leave the fronts open to prevent mice and house sparrows from nesting in them over the winter.
In early spring, it's time to close them up so they're ready for the nestng season.
Because of the ease with which bluebirds can be attracted to nest boxes, and because setting out and maintaining a bluebird trail is an activity that has few restrictions, bluebird conservation activities in North America.
It's a worthwhile thing to do for this beautiful gentle bird that, in the words of Henry David Thoreau, '...carries the sky on his back."

I'm free as a bird as well Liz..all you need to do is get here then I can entertain you..
I have bluebirds nesting right now in my back yard. I put out suet and they will also eat that. They are just the most beautiful birds.
Speaking of building, I want to build and indoor planter for my tropical plants. Probably something like you see at the mall. My brother does fiberglass work, so he could fiberglass it for me so that it is waterproof. Any ideas or suggestions?
Betty, I'm just worried mainly about my students today. They are worried about Shane. For more info, go to Prayer forum and read "I'm Sorry" thread. Shane is having a feeding tube and trach done today. No students will be allowed to see him for a couple of days and they are so down about it. It is so hard to comfort them when I don't have answers for them. And since we're a public school, I have to watch what I say about God and prayer. But I let them all know that there is Hope and there is Faith!
love, julie
Been thinking about you, Julie, even though I don't post much, I do keep up. And I remember that gorgeous photo. Good thoughts for your students, I know exactly what that is like. To even high school students, death is like watching a movie, he gets critically injured in one movie tonight, but tomorrow he's up walking around in another movie. It is a hard concept for adults, death is, and is even harder for young people.
The blue birds are fun, and we have had this bird house for several years. It tells you to space them far apart, and that's true, but there should be something for the baby birds to be able to fly to when they depart the nest. The holly tree and my wisteria are about 25 or 30 feet away, and both are good because squirrels and cats avoid them. But the other small birds do create problems, and try to take over their nests. They will even go in and destroy the eggs, and move right in. So a second house is a good idea to keep them away from the real bb nest. I have a second house, but it came down in the high winds last September and I don't have it back up yet. Nothing has ever nested in it, but those little pesky birds do fill it full of sticks. It keeps them away from the real blue bird house.
You all have a good day. I am reupholstering my couch....ugh and groan.
OMG re-upholstering even..and some think I'm the energizer bunny..not so..will make a few of these birdhouses Shar..was quite interesting the concept about roughing up the hold for the little ones to be able to secure themselves.. see that Shar, taking you up again on another 'to do' a bluebird box..lordy I'm daft..all the time I'm thinking BlueJay not Bluebird...going to put me away if I continue getting things mixed up...drats...2 totally different things..would I even have 'bluebirds' now I have to go check it out..wonder if Sharon when she wanted some thought i was talking about bluejays as well...catch me please when you see I'm off into neverland....
Julie, can't believe the last time I was on the prayer thread was a day or so after you posted re the co-op..just went and read the entire thread..know I made light of cheering you up, no offense please..did not realize just how much you had hanging on your shoulders...wish I was nearby to give you a big warm hug...will continue to pray and monitor the thread...
Julie, quite something how we have to watch what is said about the Lord, or our actions in comforting a child..might be taken in the wrong way..don't know how many times I've taken a child home, hugged them, wipped their tears, now, I'd probably be arrested for God knows what..times are changing but not for the best...
Julie, will have to think about the planter...have you seen the boards that have cuttings in them in which a pot fits in..you can hang 6 or 8 or 12 depending on the board size..know I'm not making sense am I..will take a photo, think I have a small one hanging in the craft room just waiting to go outside...

Just left prayer forum
Best..Realizing how lucky I'm
OMG! Tubbytee, I am laughing so hard about the Insanity thing you posted! Gotta try some of them.
Through my students and my children, I do maintain a level of "youthfulness" and silliness. Have to or I'd really go insane. I love to wear sequined, embellished, and embroidered clothing- whether or not it is in STYLE! I usually perk it up with some really cute shoes- some are painted, some embroidered, some sequined, some in wild patterns. AND my students love it! They say I am so natural because I just try to be who I am instead of trying to "run with the crowd."
Love to all of you, julie
Winter is definitely still here. We had a blizzard yesterday, even the school was closed. I think that it's the first snow day since we've lived here. Usually, even if the busses aren't running the school stays open. This morning the bus got stuck on our road so I got in some exercise helping to dig it out. Our road is usually the last to get plowed. It was plowed once yesterday but hasn't been done since and there's been some drifting due to the wind. Apparently the roads in Moosonee are really bad too and the river had a bunch of water on it this morning. The river should be better now though since the tide has gone down. My parents and nieces will be getting here tomorrow so I just hope everything is alright by then.
Now I have some last-minute things to get done before everyone arrives. I'll be babysitting tomorrow so I don't want to leave it.
OMG Gilli...how close to you do they arrive, let's hope they'll not get stranded somewhere..the train takes them to mainland right and then cross by (????) is it snowmobile or 'ice ferry' that will be quite a trip for them..guess the children coming have never been that far north..what fun they'll have...
Just heard a helicopter went down off shores of Newfoundland/Labrador, looking to rescue 16..let's hope they can find them..already 1 dead..prayers to their families...
Julie, isn't it wonderful that you are that confident in yourself that you enjoy the more eccentric type dress..I always try to blend in..lordy, bought a red dress once, think Roger was tired of seeing me dressed in black, went to Township Christmas party and I felt I was so bright everyone was looking at me..probably the only time I wore it..mind you, last summer I bought an entire wardrobe in Florida, brilliant colors but on black background and I so enjoyed wearing them...
So my hat is off to you Julie for being the one of a kind gal....
sorry-not feeling well today....back to bed I go
