Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

.. here is one we found yesterday hanging out under a bag of chicken manure ... she's very shy and um , er not quite as beautiful as your big girl.... but we are delighted to have her right next to the raised veggie bed anyway.

toots, I think yours might be a toad. Still lovely, tho', and even more useful!

Eugene, OR

Should name it pebbles, looks like it's carrying a bunch. LOL I think she's gorgeous too!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

you know, I wondered if it was toad ! I don't have much experience, we only had the pacific tree frogs back in OR. I like the name Pebbles!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Pebbles is a toad. I like toads except when they go swimming in my pool. They eat bugs.
I got pollywogs yesterday.
More soon.

There is just something about frogs that make me smile :-). Great photos on here! My tadpoles in the aquarium are getting a little bigger, but they have a long way to go until they start looking anything like frogs.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Hi Sunny

If possible, can you post some pictures of your tadpole set up in the aquarium. I would like to save some of mine in the pond from the sharks (koi) if possible and am looking for ideas! Thanks

This is first frog i had in my pond 2 summers ago. Wasn't he a beauty!

Can't see the image, but I'm sure he was a cutie!
Beahive, I have a couple of places where they survive in my ponds, but they get lots of regular food too. We built in hidey holes for the small gf, and in the overflow where the pump goes, the gf or sharks don't go. They also don't go in the container that holds my mini water lily in the raised planter. I even saw some tadpoles out in my big bottom waterer frame. Just give them a place where they can lay their eggs and you'll get them. Shallow containers seem to attract more frogs and toads.
I'd like to see your aquarium too Sunny.
Here is a photo of my gf/turtle pond.
If you look in the lower left of the photo, you'll see one of the favorite places for tadpoles to gather. You'll see the dry plastic that is currently keeping them dammed apart. What you can't see is the overflow/where the pump lives. You will see the turtle that I sang into being. Really, I was out singing to my other turtle, and the little one just showed up. I live in a desert and have no clue where it came from. I feed the turtles, gf pond food, and they do eat a few of the pollies, and maybe even some of the small gf. They also like to eat water lilies which is good because the water lilies are going to take over. LOL!
Hope this helps some.

Oh I am so jealous! I want a turtle. They would freeze up here! Love your pond..and wow on the water lilies! They do Ok up here, but I am sure they prefer your zone 9.

I am hoping these eggs became tadpoles and they were
not flushed down stream. There is a lot of plants and algae for them the hide in, but the Mama laid the majority of them at the mouth of the falls. I can see the eggs clinging to the algae, but fewer everyday. Hoping they are hiding out somewhere and will surprise me in a few weeks!

Trying again with my 1st frog picture. He was a BIG one!

Thumbnail by BeaHive
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

He is gorgeous! Beahive the eggs might be getting washed downstream. The frogs generally prefer still water along the banks to lay their eggs, and sticks to attach them to. Is this a live stream or something you created like mine? Don't give up hope. I haven't found any pollies with legs or feet yet either. Sigh.
Turtles are red eared sliders and they burrow into the muck at the bottom of the pond during the cold. Dad said that they slept through the winter. Even here they disappear in the cold months and only reappear when it gets warmer. They are native to Oklahoma and here in CA. At least I think they are. I know my Grandpa always had some around when I was growing up, but those were tortoises. (land not water turtles). Sending a photo of Skippy (he's the big un on the center left of photo, and the lil un, which is center on the right.) and the Turtle I sang into being. (I know I'm strange but it was strange!) Lucky to get them both in one photo, out sunning at the same time.
Skippy was given to me when he was only the size of a quarter. I was really happy when he got to live outside. I think he likes it better too.

Do you think I could move some of the strings to the boggy part of my pond without harming the little eggs? I would put them in pond water of course for the trip.

I like the name Skippy. They look like very laid back turtles!

Eugene, OR

Pampered turtles!! They have their own spa. ^_^

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Bea, I should think that by using a stick to collect the eggs on you'd be able to move them. I've done that, and rescued tadpoles from a rock depression that water collects in. That's where the big bull frogs lay their eggs. The owners of the property right behind it keep an eye on it. The locals called it the Indian Bathtub. LOL! I'll try to get a photo of it for you soon. Anyway, keep them wet like you said during the transfer and they should do well. The boggy part of your pond should have both food and shelter for them.
We actually were given two babies. Skippy and Pebbles. We don't know what happened to Pebbles. She just disappeared one day. So did the Painted Turtle I bought. She might still be in there. Just too wary to let us see her, but I doubt it. Sending a photo of Skippy. He does tear up the lily pads some.
Sally, I don't know about pampered, but it sure is nice to only have to clean their "tank" once a year. LOL! We usually try to clean it all out in January or early Feb. before the amphibians start to lay their eggs, and most of the plants are dormant. Once they've laid their eggs you feel like a murderer cleaning out the sticks and junk that collects over the winter, that they attach their eggs to.
Go for it Beahive, and keep us posted!

SW..great shots. Those turtles are so cute! I think a good name would be Scrappy. Skippy & Scrappy..how cute is that!

One of the definitions for scrappy reads: aggressive and determined in spirit.

With our bag weather the frogs have been keeping a low profile for the last few days. This brave little soul came out during a break in the weather.

This one decided to stay under the cover of a Hosta and wallow in the muck!

And it's cold muck too! Brrrrrrrr

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

yeah..isn't the weather dreadful!

Eugene, OR

I certainly agree with that!! Pretty soon I'll need webbed feet like our froggie friends. LOL
