not a frog, but thought I would share. You never know WHERE this guy will turn up, today he was by the backdoor, always makes me jump!
Who let the frogs out? - Part 2
Frogs, lizards, turtles, toads...all great in my book ;-).
Bea, I have the "very petite" Pacific Tree Frog tadpoles, so they are in a small aquarium with some pondwater in it, and an area where they can climb out when they turn into frogs. I have it covered with window screening, due to the darn mosquito larvae in the water. Bullfrog tadpoles can stay tadpoles for an entire year and get quite large. I learned this the hard way with my first foray into frog acquisition. LOL. Here is a pic of me holding a second year bullfrog tadpole:
Wow Sunny that is so cool. Keep us posted when he transforms all the way! How fun for you.
I have started a new thread called the adventures of Mama and Melvin. This is melvin.

I had company yesterday. I think Jake said it was his pet Pacific Tree Frog. He claims it has chameleon like properties and can change the color of it's skin. He may have been yanking my chain. I thought he was a cute frog. Was really sweet, but didn't like getting his photo taken.
Nice thread Bea, can't wait to see what Mama and Melvin get up to next. LOL!
sunnyg, that tadpole is huge! Please do keep us posted. Is the photo I just posted what they look like when they turn into frogs?
Thanks!

ha ha haha - look at those toes SW !!!!
sunny, I had no idea about bullfrog tadpoles - he is big.
SW..he looks very content sitting there. Almost looks like he is praying. Too cute..he has a few cumbs on his face. Must have just finished lunch!
The things we learn on DG!!
LOL I totally agree Sally! What handsome frogs, Bea and SW. From what I've read, Pacific Tree Frogs actually do change the color of their skin, and I know I saw a huge amount of variation in their coloring among my buddies last year. I seem to recall that the change has something to do with temperature...but I very well might not be recalling correctly ;-).
Sorry for my half finished frog thoughts yesterday. I have a fully enclosed "yard," and the frogs and many other critters don't seem inclined to scale a 6 foot tall fence. :-( As a newbie to this whole thing, I bought a couple of smallish tadpoles at the pond store, and they ended up turning itno the giant bullfrog tadpoles pictured above. Given how tiny my pond/yard is, as well as my fish (bullfrogs eat small fish and birds), I decided to return the tadpoles to the store and get native tadpoles that would turn into more petite frogs. I was so sad about returning my bullfrog tadpole buddies, but felt it was the best option given the tiny size of my setup here. Your bullfrogs are so handsome and full of personality, Bea, and I'm happy I get to enjoy their antics here on DG at least :-). I'm looking forward to checking out the adventures of Mama and Melvin.
Here's a pic from last summer, of a newly released Pacific Tree Frog froglet hanging out in some creeping thyme. He was about the size of the fingernail on my pinky finger. I swear he's smiling is this pic! ;-).
He's definitely smiling - how cute ! Did you get the native tadpoles from the pet store??
He was thanking you for his new home!
sunnyg, he has a really sweet smile!
It rained and they just showed up here. Even in the raised bed water lily container, I have tadpoles.
Thanks sunnyg, Jake had brought his frog from the cool of indoors out into the greenhouse where the temps had gotten into the triple digits. He probably wanted to see how long it would take before it changed colors. LOL! Boys and their experiments. ^_^
Red, I liked his toes too.
Bea, maybe he did. He was a very nice frog.
Sally, I learn something new every day on DG.

LOL!
RTP, I got the Pacific Tree Frog tadpoles from someone's seasonal pond. Tadpole and frog collecting was a great experience last year! This year, a friend brought over a big jar of tadpoles (her parents have the seasonal pond). There is practically nothing better than someone showing up at the door with a bunch of adorable tadpoles, I tell ya. ;-)
As long as you have somewhere to put them. hee hee hee
Knowing me, I'd create one! ^_^

AWWWWWWW!!!!!!
SW..He is to cute for words!! What a nice experience for you. Darling!
My neighbor Raul found this frog in his yard today and brought him to me to add to my pond.
I think he is an Oregon spotted frog, but not positive. He was very happy to get out of his tupperware container. At first he went in the wrong direction and went hiding beneath some rose bushes. I finally convinced him to jump over to the pond. A hop on the cement to the pond
Nice little frog Bea, you need to fatten him up!! Won't be a problem at your place.
AWWWWW!
Got to make you feel a song in your heart Bea. Especially since the loss of Big Mama. Take lots of photos and keep us posted here. ^_^

He is a cutie and did look a little skinny after being trapped over at my neighbors. I did see him spalsh into the pond from the falls last night so I guess he is liking his new home. Hopefully I will spot him today
and get more shots.
SW - he is so tiny, where did you find him?
Bea, what a cute frog, sounds like he was splashing in his new home, how fun.
Red, I was sadly shaking my head at the devastation DH wrought with the weed whacker when I saw him moving at the edge of the pond. So I reached down and grabbed him. He was fine when he swam off. They should be as thick as flies on carrion soon. I'll try to get photos of the frogs soon.
Bea, I'm glad he is taking to his new home. He is a handsome frog. Maybe even worth kissing! LOL! For a girl frog of course! ROTFLOL!

Awww...cute and cute! What happened to Big Mama? :-(
Sunny.. here is the link to the whole sad tale.

oh no, I'm so sorry about Big Mama.
Bea, I'm so sorry :-(. She was a great frog...what personality!
Bea,
How are Skinny and Penny doing. Was that Penny in the bubble bath? LOL!
WIB,
SW
SW. Skinny has been named Salsa as he arrived in a container that my neighbor brings his yummy tomatillo salsa in. I have not seen him since Monday night after his release. Who knows he may have gone back over to my neighbors house!! Keeping my eyes out for him.
The one in the bubble bath was Penny . Melvin spent all day sitting in this potted elephants ears
enjoying the sun and the splash from the fountain. Big Mama liked this spot also. I bet he misses her too! Still have not had any music in the pond since she passed.

Awwww! I forgot that Melvin might be missing her too! : (
I hope he finds the courage to start singing love songs again. Skinny is really Salsa. Somehow that fits him better. I was trying to describe him and he is skinny. I like the name Salsa better. He looks like one Spicy kind of guy. He'll turn up.
How is Miss Penny doing? I like your frogs as much as I like my turtles or my hummers, although most people find the turtles boring to watch. They don't do nothing except sun, eat, and hide. LOL! Very peaceful company.
Still searching for more babie frogs/toads. Grabbing camera right now to search.
