What is a 710 knob?
A few days ago I was having some work done at my local garage. A blonde came in and asked for a seven-hundred-ten knob. We all looked at each other and another customer asked, 'What is a seven-hundred-ten knob?' She replied, 'You know, the little piece in the middle of the engine, I have lost it and need a new one.' She replied that she did not know exactly what it was, but this piece had always been there. The mechanic gave her a piece of paper and a pen and asked her to draw what the piece looked like. She drew a circle a nd in the middle of it wrote 710. He then took her over to another car which had its hood up and asked 'is there a 710 on this car?' She pointed and said, 'Of course, it's right there.'
If you're not sure what a 710 is Its Up side down ( OIL )
Tubby-LOL-sounds like my poor DH almost!!LOL 710 knob;) Also enjoyed the Martha vs Maxine one-will have to remember the foil trick and the apple trick though
Liz-I haven't started cutting fabric-I was waiting for the great debate over washing and not pre washing fabric was over-still not over and I am still not decided!!LOL
Betty-so glad the stinkys left your babies alone so you didn't have smelly fur babies!! Betty-that panel you are doing is so gorgeous!! I can't wait to see it all finished!!
Judy-so jealous-while it is warmer here, the wind is crazy and it is poopy out-supposed to rain all weekend off and on:(
Shar-that was a sweet story of your friend-she is lucky to have someone that she can come to and help to ease her mind....
Mary-that one was neat too-I have to say the socialist and the Australian ones speak the most to me:)
Our German Exchange student liked the Iranian one.
DD sent this just now
hahahaa these are great!!!!!!!!!
1. HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY? (written by kids)
-You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-- Alan, age 10
-No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-- Kristen, age 10
2. WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
-- Camille, age 10
3. HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
-- Derrick, age 8
4. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
-- Lori, age 8
5. WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?
-Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-- Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)
-On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
-- Martin, age 10
6. WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?
-When they're rich.
-- Pam, age 7
-The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
- - Curt, age 7
-The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
- - Howard, age 8
7. IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
-- Anita, age 9 (bless you child )
8. HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?
There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
-- Kelvin, age 8
And the #1 Favorite is.......
9. HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a dump truck. -- Ricky, age 10
That is cute!! I have a friend-known her since 6th grade, so about 22 yrs, and her parents met when they were like 7 or something like that-her mom had turned to her Gma and whispered that she would marry that boy-her parents are still married to this day!! Isn't that something!! I knew on my 2nd date with DH that I was going to marry him-no ?? about it-I told everyone-even my mom when I moved a couple mos later to AZ to be with him...

Maybe after the rain you will get nicer weather. Hope so.

Hello all,
just now catching up on the threads.... oh what a day its been! didnt wake up til 11 am...must have needed the sleep, maybe it will help with this cold. tried to log onto puter, but my internet is running incredibly slow today :o( have cable, but today its acting more like dial-up :o( then, DH came home ealy...noon!... cause no work :o( this economy is really hitting his industry hard! doesnt help that I'm not working right now, problem is the few jobs that ARE available pay less than my disability does :o(
so, when he came home I had to get off the puter and at least pretend that I was cleaning the house! lol! really did get alot done. Moms train comes in on my bday! yippeee! so excited to get to see her again! But this meant I had to clean house :o( yuickie~! lol!
Will have a house full of people here on Monday, so needed to add the two leafs to the diningroom table, which meant had to move furniture so that the table would fit! lol! had table set up for 6 chairs, now extended to 12 chairs...so you can imagine how much furniture needed rearranging! lol!
so, skip to break time and head outside...mailman is on his way up to my door! Now picture this ladies (Gents close your eyes! lol!) I'm still in my jammies! its 3pm here, I'm covered in dust and all yucky, hair flying all over the place and...guess who my mailman is?! a guy I went to school with !! ugh!! lol! OF COURSE he recognizes me, so we chat for a minute, then he hands me a package ^_^ I explain that bday is coming up...we start talking about that...he barely turned 40 has 2 yo0ung kiddies at home, here I am 41, looking a mess, and have grown kids and a grandson! ugh! oh well, such is life...
but then I'm in a huge hurry to OPEN my package! lol! so stammering excuses I go back in the house....
and now I am ♫♪DOING THE HAPPY DANCE!! ♪♫ YIPPEEE!
Betty sent me a beautiful card, had me almost in tears! and some wonderful paint brushes!! Thank you soooo much! Now I need to head back to Joannes for more paints! teehee! This of course means MORE projects :o) lol! but I am soooo happy to be painting again. Once I took the paint supplies out of the closet...well, kinda felt like a dark cloud lifted :o) I think painting is a great outlet for the emotional yuck from being ill for so long. so Betty Dear, thank you, thank you, thank you! I'll have to post some pix of my new creations! lol!
oh do have one question tho... what is that wierd looking thing with the metal spikes on each end? is it for mixing paint? I havent seen it before, but then again in oil paints we mix paint with the brush on the palette or right on the canvas...so what would I know! lol! I think I need to go get one of those instructional books on how to do acrylics~thats how I learned the oils...so may be a good place to start! lol!
okay back to reading the thread and trying to catch up! lol!
Sharran... I LOVE Inglebert Huperdink! and I'm young! lol! we usually get to go see him in Reno or Tahoe with mom and her friends, but its been years since I've been to one of his concerts!
Hello there, bet you thought I got lost..what a day..
Computer kept shutting off, about noon Paul wanted to know if I wanted to take a drive to the city and exchange it, either that or Monday he'd do it and I'd be without computer for a couple days..so off I went, nice day for a ride..parked my vehicle, got the computer changed, back up, people just don't watch, walking right behind me, stopped to let them go by, by now I thought I'd backed up enough, turned my wheel, started to drive...bang right into a cement walkway, too low for me to see, none the less it's my fault..felt bad about it..
Got to the office at 2:30 and day was over at 3:00 ... off I went to the garden primitive store..omg you should see the things he has, boggling, I could have walked out with so much, over the coming weeks and summer I'm sure a lot will end up either in my garden or my house...they do have wood pieces..there was a lovely piece, a shelf unit , got in my mind that although beautiful it was $185.00 and I just know I can make one...know I can..so most likely for $30.00 I'll have me one, not this weekend though, got that floormat to do..
Left Barrie and came to Midland, dropped in to car dealership and they said approx. $800. to repair so that's not the end of the world..drove down to a man who owns a shop who knew Roger..think he felt badly for me, said bring her in and I'll fix it for $200. - felt bad about it, then I had a talk with the Lord, figured out on my own, that 5 minute delay might have been the time difference that saved me from something drastic...so, the bo bo will get fixed..no problem...
Judy, you are right, always better to wash material, some don't shrink but when you are putting 2 materials together, one might/one might not then you've got yourself a major problem...
Stacey..you'd have laughed, went to the post office and an envelop was there from you, now I remembered you saying something about 'inside' .. envelop seemed quite thick, I took my time, made the slit ever so small not knowing what might come out of it.. it sure brought a smile to my face seeing all those paper flowers...now I will have to be creative and think of something to do with them...
Stopped at Home Depot, had a nice fixture for kitchen so it came home with me, bought another plank, hey why not I already have everything cut out to make another quilt rack...for $2.99 more I'll have a 2nd one..always someone who wants one...then I bought my flecto satin diamond varathane, tape, have my paints I purchased last night to co-ordinate with upstairs colors, with hundreds of paints that I have I just got lazy, wasn't about to go through all of them looking for 2 or 3 of same..I just thought it was easier to pick color and not worry about it..
Mary, thank goodness they like each other..happy household now...what did you get up to today..
AnnMarie, how are you feeling today? Mailman come?
Called Greg, with weather as is no snowmobiling weekend for them..asked if he'd come over some time over the weekend and install the light fixture, told him if not I'd try my luck..didn't take him long to say he'd be over for sure..one of these days he'll play my bluff and I his and they'll be collecting death insurance because I've electricuted myself..lol..
You know me, I pitter out in the evenings so have everything ready for early morning project..
Stacey, going to have my bath, get comfy, batteries are charging and I'll take photo of those pretty flowers..can't believe the patience you and Liz have..to work on such tiny things..not me...
Cross posted AnnMarie, got there quick, mailed it last Friday I believe..works a lot better mailing from Barrie rather than Victoria Harbour...
Thought with you starting to paint again brushed might come in handy..that little thing with 2 metal ends is for when you have a pattern, you place it on the wood, put graphite under it and rather than use a pen or pencil to trace your design which can spoil your pattern, it doesn't.. it's used for tracing & I also use it for dots..
Now don't you be putting them in a drawer..painting you must..lol..I've about 500 books here with design and ideas, if you ever get an idea of something but can't find pattern, let me know..
OMG almost forgot and yes I should have bought it, perhaps one day this week..they had a butterfly about 16" wide and about 20 or 24" long done dimentional out of wood, cut with scroll saw, painting with brillian colors..thought of Stacey's visit..I'll pick one up so if any of you want pattern, it's just simply basecoating in various colors..I'll be able to send it to you..
I'm off to put my jammies on..lol
Here's what is waiting for me..sure hope it will be done by Sunday..need those tables..
OOOPS, Shar are you ok...haven't been on DG , hoping you've not fallen off the ladder..do hope though you got help with area you couldn't reach...
still catching up on this thread lol!
Betty, I like what youve done on the painting so far...are you painting a glass vase? trying to imagine what it will look like when done... I'd have never thought of using that spiky thing to transfer designs! lol! glad now that I asked about it :o) I'm dreaming up all kinds of things I can paint! lol!
Hi Liz, not feeling all better yet, but no matter what I WILL be in the yard this weekend! lol! just HAVE to take advantage of the sun and no rain! Also, ordered lots of new plants that will be shipped in a few weeks, so need to finish extending the stepping stone patio all the way up the side of the house and creating new beds along the fence.... BIG project, but DS is coming home to visit this weekend...so figure I will put him to work! lol!
off to take a shower and change out of my jammies :o) If it were up to me I'd just stay in jammies, but kids are all gone tonight so since its just DH & I, we are going out to eat.
bbl..........
whoops, forgot I was going to post a 'before' pix......lol!
This side yard has been DHs junk storage area forever...but he is adding 2 bay windows to that side of the house....and I dont want to look out the window and see junk! lol! so, extending the patio area in front of DSs studio to the entire length of the house and putting in a bed along the fence. I've ordered lots of elephant ears and tropicals, so this whole side yard will become my tropical garden :o)
hopefully will get most of the walkway done this weekend....after the kids remove all the junk! lol!
OMG....I worked on my studio all morning, and then I got a phone call from my yacht club friends who said they would be here tomorrow to clean up my yard and get the broken branches out of my tree...I was so excited, because it has been 38 days since the storm, and insurance wouldn't pay for tree damage, so I wasn't sure what i was going to do. Anyway...went back to work, then neighbor came tapping on my door, said youth group from her church was coming this afternoon to do my yard....
I have been waiting what seems forever for somebody to come help, everybody promised but nobody came, except the young guys who came the first weekend and got everything away from my driveway, so here I am thinking OK, if the youth group comes, fine, the men can come tomorrow and get the big stuff. I'm talking logs, here.
The youth group came, about 8, with 4 adults, turns out I had some of the adults in class when I taught, and they brought their teen age boys....and chainsaws. They worked for 2 hours...it was amazing, they even raked the yard....I sat down and cried, because I didn't know it would be my former kids and their kids....just tugged at my heart strings. My yard, my friends..is absolutely gorgeous, and I found daffs and crocus that I didn't even know were blooming. Also hellebores. I can't get over all they did...
So then I got on the phone and called my other friends who were coming tomorrow and told them it was already done......My heart is sort of overwhelmed. The youth group was going to do it the past 2 weekends, but it was either rainy or really bad both weekends, so they came today after school. Had I known it was my former kids, I would have been prepared, but didn't know. They wanted no money, but I am going to donate to them, so that they can go on a trip to visit a church in New Orleans that needs some help. I will donate to help pay for their trip, and their food while there.
Life is indeed an exciting journey....all my years of teaching are reaping benefits, I think.
And I almost have my studio done, so that's good too.
It was fun to work in the yard with the kids and their parents...and I am so energized I might put the finishing touches on my studio tonight.
So....Betty....it has been a great day. And except for your run in with the bit of concrete, you have had a fun day too.
Betty, wont your auto insurance pay for the damage on the car? I was reading about the 5 minutes...and I completely agree with you...so many times I was stuck in traffic, or delayed by a garbage truck blocking my driveway..etc... only to see an accident ahead of me that had just happened. I learned really quick that those pesky things that slow me down when I'm in a hurry are usually The Lord protecting me from harm :o) so now when those delays happen, I take the time to thank The Lord for watching over me :o)
Sharran that is so wonderful the youth group came to do your yard! I have to tell you tho that those youth are probably feeling the same way you are right now :o) We often have 'make a difference' days here in my town, and it is a wonderful feeling helping the elderly by doing what seems like small tasks for you and me, but very daunting for them. My DD went on a trip to Mexico with her church youth group a few years ago, this group of kids actually built 4 houses for some homeless families there! I remember my daughter came home from that trip with a whole new outlook on life! She saw how poor these people were, and that they were sooo happy to have a 'house' but the houses that were built were really just one room buildings, with no kitchen, no bathroom, no heat, no water...etc. at least they had electricity! but they all shared one bathroom/outhouse and cooked on hotplates. Then she showed me pictures of pieced together shacks that entire families lived in... I was really shocked (I've never been to Mexico)
since that trip... I have never heard my DD complain about not having anything. I think she learned that she really has ALOT compared to most people :o) I'm hoping my youngest gets to go on the same trip when he reaches high school!
okay, off to get in the shower! lol!

LOL-Betty-I told you to be careful-didn't want you to open it and have them fly all over and spend forever picking them up:) Glad you liked them-since I was bringing yours with me, I still wanted to give you a smile at the appropriate day:)
Hey Betty - I couldn't understand your comment, until I read back several times to try to understand,
Then LOL !!!
My last comment was from the "2 cows" joke I sent, it used 2 cows to explain the economy jokingly in different ways...
Someone had mentioned they liked the Socialism and the German one....(or something like that)
and my comment back to her was that Rico (German exchanged student) liked the Iranian one (meaning the Iranian part of the joke)....
So I think that you were thinking that I said the German exchange student likes the Iranian exchange student.... :)
No - there is no Iranian exchange student. I hope the above explains it....but it gave me a good laugh to imagine it...
Now that I (think) I've figured it out....going back to read more....
I should do a better job of explaining my comments...
:)
Mary
Sharran - I can truly feel your joy and excitement! It's like I was lamenting to you earlier about my job vs. teaching. My job has no life-long return on investment...so to speak, whereas teaching does. You have touched so many lives in such a positive way, and I believe today was a gift from God, a way for you to have some return on your time invested with these kids!
Oops - in the above that 'someone' was Stacey ....I should have read back....
Hey Stacey !
Hello To All;
Anjl - I'm trying to find your old post...I think you were asking me if I watch another TV show....
I really don't watch much TV....DD turned me on to American Idol back in Season 5 when Kat & Elliot were my fav's.
I mostly sit on the computer at night.... :)
I guess my night shift is out doing fun stuff tonight....
Here is what I've planted this year so far: marigolds, euryops, celosia, creeping Jenny, thyme, I'm forgetting something...
Today I went to the nursery. They finally have some coleus in which I want to plant but the shade coleus is so much prettier than the sun coleus.
They didn't have any sun caladiums, just shade...but I want to plant some of those as well.
I did buy some petunias and planted them.
Anjl - I love your new project. I'd buy all tropicals if I could...but most like shade and the only areas I have left to plant are sun. I planted some "Black Knight Elephant Ears" last year they were so pretty. I think I saw them coming back up today. Is your area mostly shade? I am assuming that I guess since you said "side of the house" and my side is shady.
More later,
Hugs to all,
Mary
Baton Rouge, LA
I made the mistake of sitting down for a few minutes, and everything aches....I did more than I am used to doing, maybe, ladder in the morning, and hauling logs in the afternoon, and good grief, I have scratches all over my hands and arms.
So I am going to soak, and if I don't return, you all have a good evening...I'd like to stay and chat, but you never know, I might be back....
Hope your day has been good, and yes Mary, it was a very rewarding career. Today is an example of that.
Who's on the nightshift tonight? I just got in, see I said I wasn't staying out late ^_^
Hey Crissy -
It's only me.
If I had any more posts I was going to start with
"Dear Diary".
HA!
Everyone else has gone to bed.
What's up?
Mary
8B
Baton ROuge, LA
Nope...I'm here
Hey Sharran;
How was your bubble bath?
What do you have planned this weekend?
Mary
I'm still here too, just harassing all the other threads I go on with "good mornings!" So far I've been the first on every one of them, on a Friday night!
Bath revived me.
I'm going to finish the ROOM tomorrow, would have finished it today but along came the yard crew. But by finish I mean just to straighten and put things back in order. My son will come paint the little bit in the corner. It is not really obvious, so only I know.
Tomorrow night I might go visit friends for dinner at the yacht club.
And that's about it...what about you, with your house full of teens?
Well -
Brock went with us to eat at Chili's tonight....with "THe Parents"....he hasn't been seen.
Roxanne had "Woodlawn HS Darling's Pageant Practice tonight - the show is tomorrow night.
Raquel went to work with Grandparents tonight at a Cajun Dance serving soft drinks.
I am really considering missing the Pageant tomorrow night. Roxanne listed her parents without listing me (Or her mother) her dad only.
I am thinking about boycotting the whole thing with a headache tomorrow ...
What do you think....
Mary
Oh...bad.
Is she upset with you at the moment? Or is that a usual thing? I can't remember which one is older. I think I would miss it, a convenient headache thing. But I doubt I would let it know that it bothered you in the least. What does hubby say?
Well - we had a big disagreement back in September when I told her I "wasn't her mother"...due to her high expectations for me.....
They don't expect anything for their mother.....
It's really strange.....I have done so much for these girls... but they expect for me to do for them....they don't expect "mom" to do anything. For example.....for the sweethearts dance.....they made a big deal about how Mom shouldn't have to buy their dress. I've bought all their dresses, shoes, insurance, clothes, lunch, everything.....
More later,,,
Mary
Seems as if somehow they have been made to feel sorry for their mom, and they are being protective of her.
Actually what's happening, I think, is that they are making excuses..."mom's sick so she shouldn't have to do anything"......instead of admitting that Mom isn't capable of caring enough to do anything.
I don't know the situation, so I should not be giving any advice. That's just a gut reaction from having seen it happen with kids at school. They protect their moms, to cover the fact that their moms don't truly care about them, maybe are incapable of caring. So they protect and cover for them.
Might be a long time till they fully realize or admit to what you are doing for them. And the sad part is they might never....
I don't want to attend tomorrow....based on the "introduction" Roxanne has already sent in. But
I'm okay with sitting out.
I've already done SO MUCH for these girls....CHeer Mom, Dance MOm, Sick days, Well days...
I've been there for them....but I really don't want to be there tomorrow.....
It's just not fair to me. Bless her heart....Roxanne may have many other reasons for not including me...their real "Biological Mother" might show up......her half sister might be there...who knows....
YOU are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!
They make excuses for their "Bio-Mom".
When they went shopping for "Sweetheart Dance" dresses....I overheard the girls talking about "taking advantage" of their Mom. This is the Mom that has paid NO child Support....I have been the one to fully support them in every way.
But they feel so sorry for "MOM" that they can't understand that she has never foot the bill for anything.
DH has been no help for this.
Yet - they don't appreciate my support...they think it is my RESPONSIBILITY to pay for them....go figure....
Hugs,
Mary
One day, they'll know...
Hugs back.
