Jaye I used to pull a thread too. But the fabrics today are so uniformly woven that I don't do it anymore. I line my selvage as close to a stright line on my mat as I can get it and cut one even edge Straight up. For every five strips I cut I reealign the selvage and cut a straight line again. I find even being as careful as I can that my strainght edge always goes off a thread or two after five. Make sense??
