I have my grandma's garden notebook and it has her list of iris in the back and pages of soil mix she used to raise her African violets and some other things she cut out and saved.
Didn't' realize the list was there until last year
Good Morning!!! LOL I just got in from my friends birthday party. See I didn't stay out late ^_^
I woke back up again so I started reading the thread more.
Jaye, BJ's Don is something else. His work is "professional" grade, and his deckwork is divine. Can't wait to see his bridge. The story of his garage/workshop was a hoot though.
Donna, well, we have hills on this side of the county, south side has better garden weather/flatter land and sandier soil. We're Zone7A, south side was 7B and much better for tropicals and reblooming iris.
Phyllis - I'm going back to bed, but it won't be that hard to replace your Nana's irises. There's an separate iris society just for preservation of the oldies: HIPS (Historical Iris Preservation Society) and they have a website with photos. If you can't find it through google, let me know and I'll look it up for you.
can anyone tell me which thread the applesauce cake was? I came home to find 3 open jars of it in the frig! (and the laundry....)
here's a photo of a real oldie - Mme. Chereau, circa 1840s
each of those blooms are about the length of my pinkie finger.
Bonnie, d-mailed you the recipe.
Jaye!!!! Laura got her 2009 package tonight.....she was soooo excited and it came at a great time! You brought tears to her eyes. You did good sistah!! She asked me to post for her as they don't get their internet until the 9th.....so she should be back on on a regular basis starting on the tenth!!
For all of you Laura got a beautiful leather bag sent from France, and gift cards for Olive Garden, WalMart and Michaels!!! Also a beautiful card from Jaye.
Bonnie yep have already been there and as a matter of fact one of the Dgers that was over by Dallas gave me a "catalog" form a lady he used and I found alot of them but have to find my list again of what I did find and then try contacting her to see if she has them and when to order them LOL
Oh Stacey, I love both the butterfly fabrics! I don’t think you can go wrong with either of those!
Oh My Trisha….what a beautiful mountain….Ohio doesn’t have mountains.. :O(
I got up at 12:30 this morning and thought about you. I wondered if you would be on the computer at 9:30. Then I thought no, that would really wake me up and I need to go back to sleep!
I had an awful night. I just kept dreaming and tossing and turning. I’m hoping that my day in the garden today will make me sleep like a baby tonight!
Jaye, sweet Sistah, I don’t like to hear that stuff about putting off a colonoscopy. My Dad had a cancerous tumor on his colon and they caught it right away. He didn’t even have to have radiation or chemo. You can bet when the time comes for mine I am THERE!
Great news BJ on the bolt. Wish all problems were that easy to solve. I was going to tell them all the weekend, cause since I already have my airfare, if it was some other time, I was in TROUBLE!
Yes Jaye, I agree with Joyce. Every woman 50 and older should have one every year, just like a mammogram. My cousin ( Sissy's younger sister) pass away Dec 31, 2006 at 52 from colon cancer, my grandpa died from cololn cancer, and my mom and her brother and sister both have had polyops (spelling?).
Everything was a ok. It was not bad at all. The worse was drinking the GoLYTELY stuff. It comes in a gallon jug that you add water too then have to drink an 8 ounce glass every ten minutes. Man I like to froze to death drinking that stuff. It taste salty but other than that not too bad. I was awake thru the whole thing and was able to watch on a monitor. I really like my doctor and the nurses' and the sugical center are so nice. I had a male nurse, who was really nice. After I came out of the procedure room, he took care of me again told me to FART, lol. OK I said and I let er rip, lol. He wasn't gonna letme go home until I did. Hot home, cuddled up in my recliner and snoozed off and on all day. Rick asked me if he did that when he had his toe surgery, I said yep off and on all day.
Suppose to be a really nice day today so I'm going outside to work.
I bought a bunch of daffodil bulbs from Breck's, so far not a one of them is what I ordered. BJ, LMK if the ones I sent you are pink. I will be getting my money back if the ones I ordered don't show up. I planted at least 125, I don't know how many I sent BJ.
Cindy my mom had one done last month and she says that stuff you drink tastes like whale puke. Well of course I had to ask. Hmmmmmm mom when was the last time you tasted whale puke.
LOL, yea really. I think they've changed the taste, it does come in pineapple flavor.
Morning everyone! Wow, you all have been busy. Bj, so glad the problem was found and easy to fix. Just a bolt is a good thing.
Todd and I will be outside most of the day, working on my new garden area.
Trisha, I love that mountain shot, if you don't like it, you can send it here.
Later
LK
Morning sweet ladies!!
Oatmeal this morning!!!! Got to stay regular!!! Lol!!
Trisha, please tell Laura I'm sorry she got hers this late. Just want to make sure her move is final. Us women enjoy shopping.. so, I thought Laura would unwind after the move by shopping!! Yep, I had asked Zi my sister to send something from France for Laura. She sent a Moroccan made purse!!!!! It's just too cute and perfect for someone as young as her!
Laura, besides being loved by us here, has gifted Deborah well.. so it's the least I can do ^_^ to make her 2009 happy.
Oh my!! Whale puke!!! Yeah.. when did Darlene try that, Tina-Tia??
ROFL!!
Thank you Cookie and Cindy for your advice. Guess I just got to do it.
Will set up an appt. None in my family has problems with their colons, but you never know... So.. I'll do it... even though I may struggle to down a gallon of whale puke....hope they have that in pineapple!
125 daffies Cindy?? Wow!!! Wait till they all bloom!!
I had problems sleeping too last night Cookie. Been hunched over my sewing machine, after more ironing.. Must learn to take breaks every half hour!!
LK.. where will you and your father go this weekend? You had said you normally bring your father out of the house, for a ride in the country or eat out. That is so wonderful of you.
Today, we're supposed to look for shoes for my wide feet. The only brand that caters to me is Sketchers. Unless I get men's shoes and of course nothing feminine about them! Anyone of you ladies share this problem?
Be it in the garden... or just 'vegeing' at home, you all have a lovely Saturday!
Well Jaye, I'm glad Joyce and I were able to convince you. I'm done with all of my physicals for a year. ^_^. Now I'm going to concentrate on losing weight and eating healthy. I've been eyeing bathing suits. It's been about 5 years since I've wore one. Heading for the hot tub ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jaye, Dad and usually go for a ride, and since everything here is at least 60 miles to the next town, we try to find dirt roads to drive on, but they are few and far between here. Everything here belongs to ranchers, and all properties are fenced off for miles on end. Some ranchers have exoctic animals for hunting season, like elk, or dofferent kinds of deer, so when we can see the wildlife from the road, he gets all excited! Then we will stop at alittle restaurant and or gift shop, just to see what they have. Most of the time we come home with something we don't need, but he has fun.
Cindy good luck on the diet. I have been trying to start one myself for awile, and I just can't get motivated!
LK
Good morning everyone!!!!
Mornin girls poppin in real fast to say HI
got a tiller here so have to get back out so we can get everything tilled and it back before 2 for only half a days cost.
if I could just get more field trips like the ones I had for over night it sure would help with getting things done for September ...LOL...
Be good , stay safe and will pop in next break
Good Morning!
Just wanted to pop in and say Hi! I'm going outside for the duration to dig weeds, it's getting windy thought and it might rain this afternoon, so I best get a move on.
Everyone have a great day!
LK, try this one here. It's about counting calories so you don't have to give up the foods you love. You can still have CHOCOLATE!!!! Sissy is on this and she has lost 35 pounds and she is a home body no exercising except for maybe taking the dogs for a walk. There are some yummy recipes ^_^

Well hello Miss Cody ^_^.. and what will you be doing today??
Come till at least 3 rows of 20 ft. long beds for me Phyllis!
Kel said he'll do it this year, to plant IN GROUND my brugs, but I don't think it's necessary :( For veges, we'll get more strawbales.
Cindy, I haven't tried on a bathing suit for 20 odd years now!! I know you must be thrilled!! AND... I might try that diet for Kelvin. Thanks for the link!
Hi Crissy.. looks like most of the sistahs are able to 'play' in the dirt!
LK, I bet your dad's looking forward to weekends. When I was taking care of my ex. mum.. she looked forward to outings too. First stop will be at the Waffle House. She loved the pancakes there. Then off to nearby towns..just sightseeing. She'd be just amazed watching how the young kids dressed. Her favorite time will be during Christmas.. going from suburbs to suburbs, taking in the light displays.
See me later everyone!
Oh yah.... don't forget to sign up for Cindy's Spring Swap. It will be a hoot..

LOL LOL LOL
Y'all have been talking about swimsuits. don't care what I look like, i'm not model and never have been, but I SWIM, my favorite exercise, so I live in one in the summer. BJ, Randall makes me look itsy bitsy.....
Randall just came upstairs and announced we're going to become nudists. We've been wanting the yard fenced. He figures if we become nudists, all our neighbors will fence their yards, and there ya have it.
and I replied......."Cool! Literally!"
I think it's a requirement to live in eastern half of NC that you live in a swimsuit all summer. We sure did as kids growing up.
been outside weeding - darn it's hot out there. Got dizzy, came inside, drank a liter of water. after that snow, the weeds are coming up like melted butter, so gotta to go do more. And, yes, I did accidentally pull up two irises and crushed a sprouting tulip. Clumsy as ever...
A nudist! Why didn't I think of that. I have TERRIBLE neighbors on one side and I was talking high fence but maybe if I went nude they would move! Nothing like seeing a 70 yr old fat lady in the buff to get people packing. Of course it is too cold here but if I was in my favorite place (Outer Banks of the Carolinas) I could do that all year long.
Ohhhhh Myyyy....Bonnie... we haven't met yet...but I lived in Raleigh from 1947 to 1951 so my elder Sister could graduate from the very first RN nursing class at Chapel Hill in 1951...I am a died in the wool Tarheel from Sampson County...Mercy me, did you ever bring back the summers in NC in a swimsuit...yup... we lived in em...easier to jump in the crick and not get hollered at when ya got back to the Big House...;-))
I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one trying to lose weight! I've GOT to! I've been buying on sale chocolate, and eating a lot of icecream, and it's OVER! The dr. weighed me Thurs. and I'm not tellin' how much it was!
I have all kinds of bulbs coming uo, and 'course I didn't lable anything! I think two are hyacinths! I've never had any, My crinim bulb is not coming up. Did it freeze, or does it come up later?
Audrey, your crinums will come up much later.
I love that look on Sage's face, Trisha!! I bet it started with a surprised look, and then this big great smile!! Such a lovely child.
Oh well, Janice, Bonnie and Dusty.. I live in this little town of 2,000. There are about 15 churches in this town, 10 registered sex offenders and one nudist camp!!!! The nudist camp has been here for more than 20 years! If any of you are interested, I'll try to get a brochure!!
You girls have me rolling on the floor... Bonnie... I think you started something here with the nudist thing.
Well... we tore up my yard today... no, I mean literally tore it up. It's funny... my son, who is right at home on a tractor on his 27 acres... comes over here to drive the little skid loader and tears up the yard trying to maneuver it around flower beds. Guess he's not used to tight spots in the pasture. Don's going to be soooo peeved.
We didn't finish, so Mike and I will be out there early in the morning, and the son will come over tomorrow afternoon to help some more.
I had the chance to show my DIL around the new flower beds... and she really wasn't very impressed. She's not much of a plant person.
BTW... I have a question... Last year we got some little banana pepper plants at Lowes... they grew to make some really fine peppers, and I wanted to grow some more this year... I saved the seeds of a few of the peppers, and test sowed them last fall... they didn't sprout. So, I tried again about a month ago... still no sprouts. Bonnie suggested (while she was here) that there's such a thing as "sterile" veggies. But we didn't know if "sterile" veggies would produce seeds or not. Anyone know anything about it?
There are some store bought vege plants that have sterile seeds, BJ. I tried a couple, a tomato and an eggplant.. no luck! Guess they don't want consumers to cut into 'their' profits.
Poor you!!! No lunch for your son until he gets your garden fixed!!! Give your DIL some time. I didn't get into gardening until my late 30's.
Just got in and have to get Sages hair brushed and leave for church.....we are a bunch of whipped puppies, it has rained and snowed a good part of the day.....Laura is at the house cleaning the baths and Kitchen....we are down to the last things we need the truck for... dump, Goodwill and the last load of shelves and Freezer to go to the new house....if we can't get Dave tomorrow it will be an early day Tuesday as they have their walk through at noon.....Sean works tomorrow and Monday unless he can get someone to trade a day with him.....wh have to sit Orion tomorrow afternoon as if we didn't have enough going....
Have to run....talk to ya later!
