hello to everyone else have a wonderful day
Happy Birthday Betty! Don't forget to have a piece of cake and, well, it might be a tad too cold for ice cream, but have the cake anyway!
Liz..that is so neat..you have a talented husband..great gift for a fireman.
Betty..good eyes for an "old gal"..LOL
I had to go back and look for the sock..found it!
Chuckling here...
Will do Crissy..you and Dave feeling better today?
Liz, he's just too adorable..with your permission can I print the fireman photo..I'll give it to June..her hubby is a fireman and they are always looking for something to donate to the fire dept. I'm sure they'd love it..
What am I doing today, not a whole lot..mom just called, said she'd love to go to Buffalo again..might do so later..enjoyed my last trip with her...
Lots of call here at the office..Darlene and painting class girls just called, said there was a gift waiting for me on the table..without even knowing what it is, I can almost guess...had a few questions asked that I replied to..I'd be surprised if I didn't get it...
Really want to give a fresh coat of paint to the studio floor..until I'm finished doing crafts and woodworking there is not sense in putting linoleum or rug or anything else down, we drop paint and just about everything else..so I mentioned my next big project will be to paint the walls and floors..Darlene was talking about a new paint out for flooring, goes on almost like acrylic..perfect for that room...she said she'd be more than pleased to come and help me.. that was about 2 weeks ago, last week she asked if I had decided what color I'd like..can almost bet it's a 'Home Depot' gift card with a note saying 'floor paint' lol...
If it's not that, then we were talking about my doing portraits with graphite, I was saying I'd have to do some of the work at Carol's because my lightbox I use for stained glass just isn't suitable for portraits...so could be gift certificate for Michaels....they all spoil me terribly..
Never too cold for ice cream!
Happy Birthday Betty! Have fun shopping on your lunch! Wall turned out very nice.
Liz love the tin man! I have to convience my DH to make me one or maybe two! But first I want him to make me a rain chain out of small watering cans I have on hand. I'm looking for the chain I should have somewhere. While looking I did find a few other things! LOL Boss called yesterday. Has to cut hours. Get a raise and the hours get cut. She might not take back the lady that went to Arizona and is working in one of our stores. That would just about cut my hours in half and to me that wouldn't be fair. so we will see what happens. Oh you will adjust to those hours. But monday is a good day to have off. Around here anyway.
Got the winter sowing done. Plan on starting seeds the regular way now. Or dishes. Can't decide what to do first.
Wonder that is one cute puppy! My Ty doesn't replace Dawson as no other dog would. But he is another great dog.
Moving! I can't imagine moving after living here for 34 years so far!
My brain has disappeared so I'd better go before I write something that is totally wrong.
You all have a good day!
HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Betty! Stacey came over for the weekend and we had a great time. I took her to my favorite quilt shop and she loved it. Bought some material on Friday and then had to go back on Saturday! Gal said, "weren't you here last week?" and we said how about last night? Now I have her hooked on fabric, next will be the sewing part. We would have done more but my machine conked out again. To the repair shop for it today for the 4TH time.
We bought something for your birthday and Stacey will bring it when she comes up this month.
I don't know why I feel so old and look so old; I'm just a young thing inside, right? this year is 70 for me and THAT IS OLD!!
So see, you are just a young thing, too. Age is realitive.
Have a great day and enjoy!
yes betty copy away
oh vicki hope things work out for your benifit got to go pouring here have to take the back roads
I know, I am the ONLY one out there is that actually happy to see snow! Yep, that's right! We never get it and you would think in central Va - only an hour away from the mountains, that we would get some - nope! It's always west, north, eat and yes, south of us! So the storm yesterday/last night was a real treat! It is a beautiful snow - everything covered! DH measured and it looks like we got 8+ inches! Love it, love it, love it!!!
Here are a few pics from this morning....
You got a lot of snow!
Drats what a long day when you've nothing to do...3 of us sitting here playing on computers looking for something to do..
LeeAnn went to get a pop in the refrigerator..Paul her dad keeps it stocked with goodies..she was laughing..apparently in the office in Toronto the men have a refrigerator with beer in it, so she asked what was wrong with we girls here in this office..cute, today there is beer in it..the girls might have the odd bear, me I've never even tasted one and Suzanne only when she goes out, so safe to say beer will be taking up space for quite some time..lol
Jeannine meant to tell you loved the photo of the dogs..looks as though they are enjoying winter..understand more snow is on the way..
Janice..wouldn't you know, a planned sewing day and machine give up..I felt so lost without my machine when it broke down and yet I'll go months/months without sewing..just like a car, can be sitting in the driveway and you never go anywhere, not there, and a zillion places to be..thank you Janice and Stacey..will look forward to opening it...weather is improving so won't be long Stacey will venture here north of the border...
LOL Jeannine, looking at the photo's, sure looks like fun and so pretty, as long as it's in your neighborhood and not mine...
Vicki, really doesn't seem fair, guess they are trying to keep all staff on instead of laying one off right? If she doesn't take the lady that's in Arizona back would your hours still be cut? Dreadful so many losing their jobs or taking lessor pay or job sharing..I wouldn't mind that, work alternate days or something..wonder if I can talk Paul into that...
Debbie, how are you feeling today? any results...
Calling on everyone's expertice..
If a person (chuckle/chuckle) was in the USA and only there for let's say 8 hrs. and a USA person gave them a gift, because they were not there 24 hrs/48 hrs. could they still take it across the border?
Betty every year it is the same. Get a raise and a cut in hours. Our company is one of the few making money. Upper management doesn't care about who is working just that the job gets done with as few people as possible. No matter what my hours are getting cut. She gave me my new schedule for this week when she called . I had already gotten it friday. She got an email sunday stating how many hours she had to cut.
Jeannine love the dog pictures! They sire love that snow and would never get tired of it if you had it all the time. Ty always wants to go out!
Will you enjoy the extra time off Vicky? I know we can always use the $$$ but time off is kind of nice, especially springtime when you can get the gardens up and running..look at Ty..adorable..my Sailor also loves the snow, loves to roll in it, but now that her hind is as bad as it is, having to walk through deep snow is hard on her...shovelling pathways throughout the yard is hard on me..
What kind of seeds are you winter sowing? any that do well that I might look for on my lunch at the Garden Gallery...I bought geum on Saturday, vining spinach the week before..I try to pick up a pkg. a week of something different..
Betty right now I am working about 21 hours a week. Was working more then that. During Christmas and inventory I was working anywhere from 25-32 hours week. So any cut is hard. If I managed my time better I don't need extra time off! LOL
I wintersowed some orange border lilly seed I saved. Who knows what will happen with that. One orange plant out of 10 red.
Then I had a short coneflower I saved seeds from.
Started Bev's Shag daisy.
Cherry Brandy Rudebeckia
Carillon Digitalis
Pink Bonnets Columbine
Green Apple Columbine
Bells of Ireland
Vulcan mallow
Some of them I will also start inside as I have never done this before. Some were leftover seeds and I used all there were. So it will be kind of interesting to see what happens. I put them on the east side of the house so will have to watch them and make sure they get enough water later.
Vulcan Mallow sounds interesting..I did the seed thing last year..OMG they were growing like crazy as I set them all in the spare bedroom and the sun shone on them all day..but I started them way too early..should go back in last year's posts about now and see when I did..lost 90% of them..maybe if I started early May it would be a good time..not good at this sort of thing...
Betty I think the important thing is to harden them off..That has been my goofs..
Gardengirl1204 Hi GG your best friends are Golden Retrievers right..We have one Scamp. He is such a good boy..Very good natured.. Goes nuts if I go out without him..DW gives me a pinch cause she has to listen to him till she can get to the door and let him out..Now I wouldn't do that on purpose...LOL His favorite place under table at my feet..My toe warmer .LOL
Betty that's a good question, my boss flies all over the US but never goes out of the country.
I have a question also: Does hyperness give you energy?
Scamp is gorgeous!
Now Betty....who is to say that "gift" didn't come over with you....the recipent didn't like it....and you are returning it to your home?
Or is there a sister that took one of your belongings...and your bringing it back? Not sure how all that works at the border.
Wish I could say I was feeling 100%...but I have the cold tremors very badly. The docs are trying to figure out what is causing them. They happen about the same time every day....and are somewhat painful. Feels like I have been sitting out in the cold for hours. It is 72 in the house...so not cold. MRI results should be in by Wednesday I would think. If not, will call.
Vicki, they did the hour cutting in quite a few places around here also.
Debbie
Debbie that's weird, it sounds like a fever.
Debbie, think they'd be asking me for receipts..lol..
you know Debbie, medication that is not agreeing with you can do that..when Roger's high blood pressure went sky high and it was same time as generic drugs came out, he went into feeling cold, thing almost stroke like seizures, then completely blind...once he was off those generic drugs and back on regular drugs within a week he was back to his old self..even though Dr's said this couldn't happen...maybe something to consider, they did change your meds recently didn't they?
Tubby, Scamp is beautiful....
Vicki, looked for Vulcan Mallow, didn't have any..bought a package of Malva-sylvestric mauritiana (100 seeds) rich purple pink flowers, veined deep glossy purple, some loosely double like Old Fashioned roses...easy thriving in most soils..
Then Livingston Seed had low growin Wildflower mixture NO weeds..hmmm aren't wildflowers weeds...little packet contains 15% Dwarf Bachelor Button, 15% Baby's breath, 8% Farewell to Spring (?)
8a% Sweet Alyssum, 6% African Daisy, 6% Flax (my favorite in the garden) 5% Siberian Wallflower, 5% sweet william, 5% California poppy
5% Baby Blue Eyes, 3% Dwarf Lance-leaved coreopsis, 3% dwarf plains Coreopsis, 3% candytuff, 3% California Bluebells and 2% catchfly..- grade A canadian seeds so let's hope..I'll make a little area and see just how much grows out of this pkg. Have purchased those contained at Walmart etc that says wildflowers..now that's a mistake!...
Carol, they had primus - little roses.. so many colors and on sale $1.49 not sure if same as you purchased..really pretty..bought a few other plants..when doing my scavenger hunt yesterday I found a few containers that needed flowers..I'll do a plant arrangement tonight..need something to feel spring...did buy me 1 beautiful (not real) lol sunflower to brighten up my day...
Didn't want to be late so picked up lunch and am eating at my dest..Suzanne just called, she has an appt. here at 2:30..I thought it was in Toronto but not..
TOOOO cute Trisha..still 'forever' to this day...
best I go check out more about Washington..will be gabbing to the boys tonight about it..
Betty the Vulcan Malva are a Livingston Seed. I got them at Farm and Fleet here or it was Wal-mart. Now I am confusing myself! LOL
Hi All A cute story..4004 you will like this one..Promise..A little redemption.!!!
SPECIAL GROCERY LIST
Louise Redden, a poorly dressed lady with a look of defeat on her face, walked into a grocery store.
She approached the owner of the store in a most humble manner and asked if he would let her charge a few groceries.
She softly explained that her husband was very ill and unable to work, they had seven children and they needed food.
John Longhouse, the grocer, scoffed at her and requested that she leave his store at once.
Visualizing the family needs, she said: 'Please, sir! I will bring you the money just as
Soon as I can.'
John told her he could not give her credit, since she did not have a charge account at his store.
Standing beside the counter was a customer who overheard the conversation between the two. The customer walked forward and told the grocer that he would stand good for whatever she needed for her family.
The grocer said in a very reluctant voice, 'Do you have a grocery list?'
Louise replied, 'Yes sir.' 'O.K' he said, 'put your grocery list on the scales and whatever your grocery list weighs, I will give you that amount in groceries.'
Louise, hesitated a moment with a bowed head, then she reached into her purse and took out a piece of paper and scribbled something on it. She then laid the piece of paper on the scale carefully with her head still bowed.
The eyes of the grocer and the customer showed amazement when the scales went down and stayed down.
The grocer, staring at the scales, turned slowly to the customer and said begrudgingly, 'I can't believe it.'
The customer smiled and the grocer started putting the groceries on the other side of the scales. The scale did not balance so he continued to put more and more groceries on them until the scales would hold no more.
The grocer stood there in utter disgust. Finally, he grabbed the piece of paper from the scales and looked at it with greater amazement.
It was not a grocery list, it was a prayer, which said:
'Dear Lord, you know my needs and I am leaving this in your hands.'
The grocer gave her the groceries that he had gathered and stood in stunned silence.
Louise thanked him and left the store.
The other customer handed a fifty-dollar bill to the grocer and said;
'It was worth every penny of it. Only God Knows how much a prayer weighs.'
THE POWER OF PRAYER: When you receive this, say a prayer. That's all you have to do.
Just stop right now, and say a prayer of thanks for your own good fortune.
I just love that one Tubby..never heard it before..yep, bet you are in Mary's grace now..lol...just joking Mary! We do love to tease..
Suzanne just came in..gave me a beautiful silk blouse - 3/4 sleeves..multi colored so it will match many slack colors...
Vicki, will check at Walmart for the Mallow...
How many seed packets have you bought of late...
BETTY I have a slew of seeds of large orange and yellow coreopsis, want some?????
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETTY!!!
Liz, love that fireman tinman! sooo cute! lol!
The snow looks like lots of fun! It doesnt snow where we live, but snows at our vacation home in the sierras. Kinda nice to drive TO the snow instead of driving IN the snow like my sis has to do! lol!
Tubby I love the jokes and inspirational posts :o) Thank you sooo much for sharing them, sometimes I just need a good laugh or a good warm fuzzy feeling and your posts always seem to do the trick ^_^
Waving hi to everyone, didnt completely catch up on the threads yet, will go back and read more later.... I just HAD to make sure I got on here today to wish Betty a very special day! lol!
AnjL
Thank you AnnMarie ..you've all made my day more special..received so many d-mails...smilling from ear to ear..
Crissy I would love some..quite different in color yours are...I'll put them in my friendship garden...
Hello To All;
Tubby - That was sweet! :) Three extra points for Tubby!
Happy Birthday Betty! How's that Washington trip plan coming? Did you find out about the congressman visit?
Love all the cute and lovable pics.....
Trisha - I have to tell you this one....then I'll shut up for a while....but it's such a crazy situation. We did put the girls in Therapy in 2003....Therapist writes a letter to the judge asking him to stop their Crazy Mom's visitation. We go to court and Judge let's Crazy Mom have SUPERVISED visition, with the supervisor being Crazy Mom's Mom. Then they go visit. Come back saying the Therapist is wrong and mean and they won't go back to Therapy. Still won't go to this day.
Okay - Sorry - I had to tell that one....I'll think of something more cheerful. :)
Betty- I had to laugh...one man's weed is another man's plant, I'm thinking. DH made me pull up a "weed" the other day...I wanted to wait to see what it was first. SO When I weeded the vegetable garden (during Mardi Gras) I found that exact same "weed" with cheerful yellow flowers on it....so of course I left it there. DH was happy about the weeding...but he said "you missed one". HA! It's still there....has about 4-5 yellow daisy like flowers. Then I go planting the creeping jenny that Tubby is trying to get rid of. Jury's still out on whether I'll regret that or not.....I'll keep you posted.
Hugs to all,
Mary
