O I'm so sorry, I cross posted with Zuzu. No disrespect intended of course.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Or it could be because he cheated on her, and ignored her. Hard to believe he could do that after hearing the song. Two sides to every story, of course.

His death left a hole in my heart, too. So sudden, way too early. I just loved him in the Oh God movies. he just seemed such a down to earth, loivng, caring man. Definitely a country boy.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Here Comes the Sun is probably one of my all time favorites....

Well, next to yours, DN.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Well, here comes the sun has nothing to do with John Denver, I was still stuck back on George Harrison. But yes, loved John Denver too, and the movies.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Polly, your description of John Denver fits Dave perfectly. JD and I met him at the same time and we really thought he was remarkable.

I mean this part of your description; not the cheating part, of course:

"...such a down to earth, loving, caring man. Definitely a country boy."

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Nice to know our Dave is like that.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

OK...so WHERE have I been ? I didn't know John Denver died !!!!!
When did it happen ?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Oh, JD.
It is too sad to talk about.
He died in a plane crash about 10 years ago...if I remember he was flying some sort of small plane that he had just purchased. Ran out of fuel over the ocean. Sad time. Still hurts my heart.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I can't believe I didn't know this.
I liked his singing and his movies.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Another John Denver lover here as well. "Inch by inch, row by row, gonna make this garden grow" is my theme song!

As for holes in my heart from entertainers dying I'd say Jimmy Dean was the first, then Marilyn, certainly Elvis, and Sinatra. Nowadays I guess my heart resembles Swiss cheese. The worst of all, for me, was the death of Richard Jansen, "The Fugitive".

JD - didn't you ever wonder why you weren't hearing new songs by John Denver?

Polly - I've seen enough terrible people in my life that I don't believe in two sides to every story, especially with violent men. After seeing my one sister with a purple neck after being strangled by our mutual BIL and knowing he knocked out his wife's teeth in a rage, hearing of the torture of other men, knowing what my own daughter endured, I don't see the other sides of those stories.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Was "My Sweet Lord" a George song? He was my favorite of the Fab Four. John Denver's songs always struck me as the type of songs that you had to sing along with, even if you don't like the song. American Pie and Brown Eyed Girl are two more songs that trigger the 'must sing' brain cells. Of course, anyone within 30 feet of me would be happy to short circuit those cells in my brain.

Van Morrison was a favorite also.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I hope that BIL is not a part of your lives anymore Pirl!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

No, he's (as Kermit the frog said) "Gone with the Schwinn" and not a moment too soon.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Yucky men, Pirl! There is definitely not two sides to those stories.

John Denver, however seemed so sweet, who knows what his wife actually put him through to cause him to seek another family and a new life. I never heard of him being abusive in any way, TG. That would have really turned me off him. Not that I condoned his cheating, but as it was portrayed in the movie his ex wife sanctioned , that she was not very understanding of his career, and expected him to stay home instead of touring. She married a music man and then tried to change him. And in the movie she portrayed him as being a loving husband up until that point. So I don't know, and I choose not to think of him as the bad guy.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Reminds me of the Charlie Rich song: (no one knows what goes on) "Behind Closed Doors".

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

as well as the old adage, "if these walls could talk".

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Love "Behind Closed Doors"

I just told my husband what we were talking about and he said 'aren't all men the bad guy'? Apparently that's a man saying, 'yup, I'm the bad guy'. Never hear women saying that they're the bad girl. Of course we're always right, and sweet, and sincere, and kind.....

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

generous to a fault, forgiving to a degree, amiable, plant loving, amorous to a fault as well. Need I go on?

One friend divorced husband #2 and he found an instant girlfriend (so many men do that) but years later he stabbed her to death (38 times), then committed suicide. She did a real good thing getting rid of him and he was, indeed, "the bad guy".

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Boy, did she get lucky or/and smart! Did she see that behavior in him?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

When the police called her and asked if he had a temper she said, "Yes". Most people can control their temper but the ones who can't are a terror to everyone around them.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

OK, so did you do some sort of Harry Potter magic on it ? LOL
(The foliage doesn't look like Spath. foliage though...is this a trick ? )

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

No it isn't a trick, JD. It is in a large pot with a rubber plant, and that is the foliage you see. Remember, I cut the lily's foliage back except for a few small bits and some new growth. It surprised me too when I saw it, I thought it was another dead leaf and went after it with my clippers...but NO....it was a bloom!!! Thank you very much.....

I thought you would enjoy the mystery though.
