Confess the stupid gardening mistakes you keep making

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I put Bob and Bruce in the same category. Not great voices but great songwriters and composers.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Is there anyone alive who doesn't think it was a baby they threw off the bridge? Not a live one, of course. That's what we always assumed.

I'd rather hear someone else sing "Me and Bobby McGee." Kris Kristofferson, for example. His voice is almost as bad as Bob Dylan's, but I'd rather hear him sing his own songs than anyone else. That's not the case with Dylan. I'd much rather hear Joan Baez or Linda Ronstadt sing his songs.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I call Bob Dylan 'marble mouth'. Never liked him. I was a David Bowie & Elton John fan growing up. When I was 14, I went through a John Denver phase too, oh and Bread & then Hall & Oats, and Foreigner after I got married and then came the eighties, lots of great music in the eighties!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Journey is my guilty pleasure, but only when Steve Perry was with them.

Another songwriter I can't stand is Neil Young. He's an awful singer and a miserable human being. I like his songs, but only if Linda Ronstadt is singing them. The only thing I can stand to hear him sing is one duet with Willy Nelson on the Half-Nelson album.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Moody Blues concert in Canandaigua outdoor concert shell, with Rochester Philharmonis.Tooo great.
Bob rocks as well as Bruce, great song writers. Also not such a great voice Tom Waits, songe were great.
I didnt like BeeGees either, you can tell a good musician by their longevity ,and the bad ones show up as elevator music.
The 70's were great.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I liked the whole British Invasion, but especially the Beatles, the Hollies, and the Zombies.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Life seemed so less complicated then.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

It was less complicated. No anti-war demonstrations, no police brutality, no mass drug abuse, etc. We thought silly little Mick Jagger, a boy with a degree from the London School of Economics, was truly decadent. Just a few years later, we heard about Charlie Manson and found out what decadence really was.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Ah, the music talk is taking me back. I grew up listening to my older siblings music, still have a soft spot for Carol King, James Taylor, The Mamas and the Papas, Peter, Paul,&Mary. And I LOVE Linda Ronstadt- she did so many genres so well, Latin, Bluegrass, Country, Rock, Pop, and my favorites are the albums she did with the Nelson Riddle orchestra- her version of Sentimental Reasons is my favorite cover of that song. Gotta agree on Bob and Neil, good song writers, but I'd rather hear a real vocalist sing them. There are 2 covers of 'After the Goldrush' I love, one by K.D.Lang and another by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emylou Harris.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I don't think I've heard the K.D. Lang version of Neil Young's song, but have you heard her sing the Hollies' song "The Air That I Breathe"? It's sublime. I could listen to it all day. It's on the "Drag" album, where every song has something to do with smoking.

I love everything by the Dolly, Linda, Emmylou trio. They sing so well together.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

I love K.D.Lang doing 'The Air that I Breath'! That CD is around here somewhere...now I gotta find that.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I think Kris Kristofferson has a wonderful voice. And I haven't seen him half naked recently, but he had a great body. We saw him in concert one year at a little local park, a free concert. He was sheet faced, and still drinking out of a large (whatever size those are) bottle of whiskey. Swaying back and forth on the stage. It started pouring, and he just took his shirt off. Never missed a line. And what a wonderful songwriter.

When Pirl told me I'd dump my hubby for Elvis, I said nope, but maybe Kris.

Just a few days ago I got a message from Classmates that a person who I really really liked had signed my "guest book" at my high school. The thought of him as old, fat and bald was such a turn off that I didn't respond and won't respond. "Got along without you before I met you..."

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

But you don't know for a fact that he is indeed old, fat and bald.
He may be a member here, ya never know...

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

He's still most likely a jerk if he thinks he went to an all girls school!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Just a dreamer. And maybe he's dreamy.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

...or a nightmare!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Wouldn't you just like a little peek?

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes, it would drive me nuts not knowing.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I can pretend he looks like one of our neighbors and be satisfied.

Not long after Janis Joplin died, I was at Tower Records and heard Rod Stewart's "Sailing" for the first time. I was positive it was a posthumous release of a Janis Joplin song. If you don't know what I'm talking about, watch this link. Actually, don't watch it, just listen to it:

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

I loved the rendition of "Mr. Sandman" by Dolly, Linda and Emmy Lou. Their harmonies give me chills. And K.D. Lang has one of those amazing voices, too.

I also love some of Janis's music. And Rod Stewart. Linda Ronstadt is one of my very favorites - her range is incredible! I am definitely a child of the late 60s and the 70s. Some of the 80s aren't bad, but I just can't relate to some of it. I do know a few things from hearing the music my sons listened to, though.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh my, look how young he looks there!

I came across this duet with him a few weeks ago, love how the audience sings along toward the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RkWs6P2IwE&feature=related (oh to be skinny like her again!)

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Don't you wish you had been in that audience that night!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Yeah, I love some of his classics but also love what he's doing now, he has several CD's now called the Great American Songbook, such fun listening!

This is the song that is on my friends memorial website, makes me cry so I have to turn the sound off when I go to her site but I love the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZD1QjySBb4&feature=related

Love this one, Rod Stewart with Queen Latifah 'As Time Goes By'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nv6Ew63-AEE

and this one has some great clips http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e29hgZxUbv0

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Love Rod Stewart, and his new CDs are great. Apparently he had thyroid cancer, and had to change his way of singing.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We dance to his CD's in the kitchen, generally on Saturday nights.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

How sweet is that!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Best is that my viola seedlings who have spindly stems from being in the dark too long (oops) luv Rod. Started singing 'Hot Legs' and moved on my best version of 'Maggie May' and their stems ARE getting stronger ^_^

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

Oh, how I love "Maggie May"!!!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

What a great story about the violas. I once tamed a feral cat by playing a Willie Nelson record for him. He loved "You Were Always on My Mind" and couldn't resist coming inside whenever he heard it. It took a while to discover how magical the song was, but I had a clue when the cat couldn't stop rubbing against the furniture on the deck every time it was playing. He liked other Willie songs too, but that was his favorite. This probably will provide the critics of Willie's voice with plenty of fodder -- supporting their contention that he sounds like a cat yowling.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Yowling or not, I love Willie.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I sing to my plants and seedlings all the time. It's amazing what they luv. I'm praying my new french tarragon will winter over on my best Maurice Chevilier version of 'Thank Heaven for Little Girls'. Of course everything else in that bed might die :x I tried to grow trilliums on the strength of campfire songs alone. NOT! Did I mention that I make alot of mistakes/oops yet?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Long ago I used to sing along, when "I'm gonna love you a little bit more" came on radio, to my puppy Bearded Collie. He'd automatically get up from the living room and come into the kitchen when the song came on. He's gone 18 years now but I still think of him when I hear the song.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Willie is not a singer; he is a definitive. You either like him or you don't, but boy o boy what he's given us IMPO.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I can understand the cat's song choice too. Every time I hear "You Were Always on My Mind," I fall madly in love with Willie all over again. The song was also a recurring theme on the best and most poignant episode of "China Beach," one of my favorite TV shows in the past.

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

Loved "China Beach", too! I think we still have the final episode on tape around here. The music was good, the stories so dramatic/poignant and the characters were unforgettable. So many great actors, as well. Hubby was in Viet Nam, so this show was especially interesting for him.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I like Willie too. definitely a distinctive voice.

How about John Denver? Another of my favorites. Almost heaven, West Virginia.....

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I love John Denver. You know who reminds me of him? Dave. When I met Dave, I was struck by how much his personality is just like John Denver's.

My son used to have a theory that John Denver's marriage broke up because no woman on earth could ever feel worthy of "Annie's Song." He said Annie must have had to put in 100% every second of her life as soon as she read the lyrics and heard him sing it.

That was one of the deaths that made me feel an entire chunk of my life had just been lost. Ricky Nelson was the first, and then there were John Denver, George Harrison, and Frank Sinatra. After losing those four chunks, there's hardly anything of me left. When Willie Nelson and Mel Brooks go, I'll be a mere shadow of my former self.
