Best/Worse/What did I learnt today...visit with friends #86

Victoria Harbour, ON

One more post then no more about the B&B, promise...

Just have to tell you a little story that totally amazes me...
One evening just getting home from work tired as can be I decided to go right to bed..in a sound sleep I could hear Sailor barker..it was raining hard and I could see after many knocks figures leaving the front deck..rushed to the door as I thought it might be Greg and the boys, only to find a father and a few children..now I'm off the beaten track, keep this in mind, you'd have to be looking for my town to come into it..although it is a tourist town..

The man in broken english asked me something, I couldn't being half asleep figure it out, so he started to walk away then it dawned on me, the B&B, so invited them in..they had left Quebec and came Algonquin Park way and hit rain the entire day and evening, he was so tired, was going camping with his children but still having 1hr travelling and it being so late decided to find a place to spend the night...remember now he's on a main highway, take a cut-off that leads to my little town, variety store next door, goes in and asks about accommodations at a B&B she refers him to ME...he was divorced and was taking 2 weeks tenting and meeting family at a camp ground..I so enjoyed talking, up for a few hours, gave them all something to eat..again, I showed them where everything was, told them to make themselves at home, not to rush out and left...but there was a surprise that morning, he got up and helped me with breakfast, like this was about 5am..we gabbed, you'll not believe it...I'll post the note they left me....my married name is PAUZE...know what their last name was , yes, PAUZE..imagine..not a well known name other than in our area...so must have been meant to be...I left, and they later continued their trek...

So guess my answer is I meet and enjoy those visiting my home..

Another 2 couples last year dropped in, they both had boats behind their trucks and thought they'd easily find accommodations in the area NOT, so when they arrived their adrenaline was going asked if I minded them having a drink of wine...absolutely not I said, went out on back deck lit the candle chandelier and a few more candles, put low music on, went out in the garden and lit what art I could - made it charming..when they left that morning they took my # and said they'd be back for sure this year...that never had they felt so at home...so, could be something to continue doing right?

Drats...keep forgetting photo..

4004 - do you have any good quilting stores in Baton Rouge? Not Joanne's or hancocks but real quilt stores? They will have Moda fabric PLUS you can go on eBay and get it for way cheaper. A lot of times if you find the fabric you want - name of pattern and maker (Moda), you can go on eBay and get a few yards. For an average dress I'd get 2-3 yards but I'm assuming period dresses are the long ones and worn with crinolines so you'd need more. I bet there are businesses out there that sell fabric for just this. I know there are tons of Civil War reenactors and most make their clothes.

Here is a store right here in Va that does just that:

Here's another fabric store with pretty fabrics:

Betty-what nice stories!!

Thanks for sharing the stories Betty. I have been reading your post less than a year, but I don't remember you posting about this. You have been holding out on us! I bet you meet some of the most amazing families!

Lost my post...

Judy was just saying how Jacob and kids his age think they are older and no longer need to call home as much..don't know the dangers out there..wow, Kyle and Jacob starting highschool..no more babies right?

You really will miss Cedric and Bailey...shortly after they left I kept feeling when I was doing something or taking photo's that something was missing..even found talking to myself more as I made it a habit to talk their ears off while they vacationed....lol

Judy wouldn't it be nicer to work part time for Steve than look for employment..knowing from workign with Roger in the past, wasn't easier that's for sure...

Carol, do hope the pain subsides..only good thing about having dentures, no dentist..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay, must have been just prior to..these past guests were in July/August... what amazes most is I just say, make yourselves at home and leave...what's the worse that can happen, nothing worth anything in the house and if they take it, means they need it more than me..my door is always open (don't have a key-lol) half the time people drop in/out and I'm not even home..lol

This is an old one but cute..

The boss wondered why one of his most valued employees was absent but had not phoned in sick one day. Needing to have an urgent problem with one of the main computers resolved, he dialled the employee's home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper. ' Hello ? '

'Is your daddy home?' he asked.

' Yes ,' whispered the small voice.
May I talk with him?'

The child whispered, ' No .'

Surprised and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, 'Is your Mummy there?' ' Yes '

'May I talk with her?' Again the small voice whispered, ' No '

Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked, 'Is anybody else there?'

' Yes , ' whispered the child, ' a policeman . '

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, 'May I speak with the policeman?'

' No, he's busy , ' whispered the child.

'Busy doing what?'

' Talking to Daddy and Mummy and the Fireman , ' came the whispered answer.

Growing more worried as he heard a loud noise in the background through the earpiece on the phone, the boss asked, 'What is that noise?'

' A helicopter ' answered the whispering voice.

'What is going on there?' demanded the boss, now truly apprehensive. Again, whispering, the child answered,

' The search team just landed a helicopter '

Alarmed, concerned and a little frustrated the boss asked, 'What are they searching for?'

Still whispering, the young voice replied with a muffled giggle...
' ME . '

How smart is Your Right Foot ???

Just try this. It is from an orthopaedic surgeon.......

This will boggle your mind and you will keep trying over and over again to see if you can outsmart your foot, but, you can't.

It's pre-programmed In your brain!

1. WITHOUT anyone watching you (they will think you are GOOFY......)and
while sitting where you are at your desk in front of your computer, lift
your right foot off the floor and make Clockwise Circles.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your Right
Hand. Your foot will change direction.

I told you so!!! And there's nothing you can do about it!

You and I both know how stupid it is, but before the day is done , You
are going to try it again, if you've not already done so. Send it to your mates to frustrate them too.

Just popping on quickly while the toddlers are asleep. Stacey, I have to disagree with Betty. I don't think you should have a problem with your interac cards. I've been able to use mine both in the States and in France. There was only one ABM in the States where I had trouble - about 12 years ago. If you look on the back of your card you should see either the 'Interac' logo or the 'Plus' logo or both. You should be able to use your card at any machine that has a matching logo and most (if not all) machines in Canada can handle both. There will be fees for the conversion and service fees because the ABM isn't connected with your specific bank but it is certainly convenient. There are ABM's everywhere too.

I feel like a broken record, always saying that I've been busy babysitting. It's crazy though. For someone who doesn't babysit 'full-time' I certainly do a lot of it. I have to say that the extra money is nice. It's nice to have some playmates for Ella too (even though she is quite territorial). It makes things a little crazy here sometimes though.

Judy, thank-you to Helen for the compliment on the moccasins I made for Cedric. I had wanted to do some beading on them but beading takes me a long time so I figured that I should just get them sewn up. Now I need to get working on Sonora's. Not much left to do - then I'll post pictures.

NO way I tried hard & failed

Good one I will have fun with GKs

Thanks Gilli!!

I tried it too-several times and each time I failed to keep my foot going clockwise!!LOL

Gilli, know that you can use your card anywhere at ATM's but I don't think you can go into stores and use it like we do as a method of payment..would be nice if we can though..will have to try it..I always hit atm's and get money out for the day that way i don't worry about a particular store not taking it...

Looking forward to seeing Sonora's moccasins..many years ago, probably 30, made myself a pair with an Indian lady..got to tell you, don't know how many times I pushed so hard with those arrow needles that my fingers were numb..

guess you are all anxious for the spring thaw?

Hi all,
Jut checking in...no time to catch up on the thread now, so will go back and read later...

Thank you Betty for your Dmail, its nice to be 'missed' lol!

I have been scanning threads, but not posting much lately...

off to yet another Dr appointment, this one is an ultra sound to see where the supposed 'kidney stone' is...although I still have no excruciating pain...just a slight burning pain in abdomen... I really dont believe its a kidney stone, so guess this test will find out for sure. Just wonder how long til Doc gets results from radiology. went in yesterday for CT scan of kidney, and still waiting for her to call with the results of that test, maybe she is waiting for the ultrasound results first. meanwhile I sit awaiting again :o( At least not too much pain, just an annoying ache in back from kidney, and a burning pain in abs. I did gain 10 lbs back :o( still weigh less now than the first surgery, but I really dont want to gain ALL that weight back! teehee!

Good news is......my son will be coming home for a short day visit soon! hopefully on his way to a full recovery and they are looking at discharging him in a few weeks! yay!! Once he is home for good, he will still go to a partial hospitalization program during the day for about 4 months. He is planning to start college, so hopefully by the next semester (Aug '09) he will be fully recovered and able to attend school. Wants to be a disc jockey! ugh! lol! He has great musical potential, always has had.... so I'm hoping that with the classes he is planning on taking he will go into creating music instead of just playing it! He has written some great songs when he was just a lil tyke (about 8-9 yo!) and hoping that he learns how to put those songs to music while at school.

okay off to shower and then Dr appt... will try to check in later !

Thank you for posting AnnMarie, know you've not been well and it takes much energy to do so..we're praying the Dr's will find the reason for your discomfort and meds given so you can regain your strength...OMG you must be smilling from ear to ear about your son..perhaps with being home with you, settling in to a normal routine and proper meds should lesson the anxiety..will he be staying in that pretty cabin you've been making the patio for? won't he be excited...

Sending prayers and will be waiting for update on your appt. with Dr.

So cute, Noah just called me to say he got an extension on his project, not needed to get done today, so perhaps we'll be shopping tonight for a birthday present...then Greg called, not happy, that's twice, once on his birthday and again today that cleats from his snowmobile track went amuck and right through the rad...so the manufacturer or at least dealer will repair but not ready until Monday or Tuesday so he's not happy..big winter carnival in Penetanguishene this weekend, 67th..don't think they've ever missed one and now no machine..maybe Melanie will let him ride hers..lol

The last one worked finally Thanks

Baton Rouge, LA

Just checking in....Hello to All;

Debbie & Gardengirl...thanks for the advice! I saved it to a file...when sister's bday comes up in May - it'll be easy to find something for her. (btw - her name is Debbie!). We have Hobby Lobby and Fabric Wearhouse...one of those places should have it.

Stacey - I got my revenge on DH (Had to laugh) we were getting the yard/house ready for the teens New Years Eve party....and German exchange student Rico asked to help. Don't know why DH gives him the mowing to do (the backyard is not that big). He was finishing up the yard and promptly starts down the line of DH's border grass lining the flagstone walk! :) Well - I guess it looked like grass! Ha!

Betty - that's neat about the B&B. Gives you some interesting company and the out of towners a place like home. I'll have to look up Victoria Harbour on www.tripadvisor.com. I didn't realize it was a tourist town.

I visited Canada once...22 years ago, at age 21...I was starting out with a company in Chicago. I drove through Detroit (by myself!) to visit a college Friend, Carole Tisdale, who lived in Windsor. She was a wonderful girl but we've lost touch. It was a great trip for a kid just getting out of school & on my own! I remember how much cleaner Canada was than the USA....and the Edmund Fitzgerald site...

Well, I think I am taking a mental health day off (vacation) tomorrow. Offices are closed Tuesday and possibly Monday for Mardi Gras. I got free tickets from work for tomorrow night for the kids to see the Broadway Play, "Hairspray". Not sure what DH and I will do, but find something downtown then pick them up after the play. Up early Saturday...to get our parking spot for the Spanishtown Parade downtown before they close up the streets. Possibly a New Orleans parade Sunday if we feel up to it.

Anjul - I work at a radio station group....I hope your son gets interested in something other than a DJ...although if he turns out to be a Program Director at a music station, it could help his music career. Maybe he could write music ....those people do better than the artists sometimes...

I'm glad there's so much more to do this weekend. It's getting very hard to keep away from planting stuff !

Hugs to all,
Mary

Hi all, know you have all probably been in bed for hours now...but I fially got a chance to log in and catch up! its only 1am here lol! so will make this short ...

went to ultrasound today and foun out when I got there that I didnt need to fast for it after all! UGH! I was told nothing by mouth after midnight... I even balked at that when they told me cause my appt was for 1:45 in the afternoon... I can go without the food, it was just that morning caffeine boost that I missed the most! LOL!

tech looked at my bladder, then my right kidney then my left kidney, The right one is the one bothering me, but I guess they do both so they can compare them...

then after all this, she leaves the room and comes back in with the on call doc, who does the ultra sound on all three parts all oaver again! UGH! this kinda scared me...to have a doc in there doing the ultrasound cant be a good sign right? so when I asked if they saw anything, etc...was just told that the radiologist will read the photos and notify my doc withing 3-5 days...well unless there is something alarming, then Iwill hear right away.

so, I'm hoping I dont hear form doc til next week! LOL! until then they want me to continuously drink lots and lots of water, and to try not to go potty until I absolutely have to.... guess this is supposed to flush out my kidneys and bladder.

okay now that I've bored you all......lol! off to go try to sleep! ^_^

Left 1 hr. earlier today, blizzard conditions .. rode in with Suzanne so that was less stressful, boy, she can't even move..hardest part is her getting in and out of the vehicle for her back being out..

LOL Tubby, going to do it, with the storm that's here today anything is worth the try..

Liz, sorry to hear you are under the weather..bad intestinal virus going around, maybe it's not what you ate but the virus...

AnnMarie, that would have alarmed me having the nurse go get a physician, but I'm sure if it were something real alarming they would have kept you there or called you Dr. to get you in ASAP..as you've won battles with cancer they'd be more cautious..praying for you sweetie..thanks for keeping us posted..

Trisha were you able to stay home last night?

Always a tale to tell..lol

Suzanne and I walked into Tim Hortons, hard place to find somewhere to park very limited so most use drive thru..we tried that several times but order always gets messed up..so in a line-up ws this young man, probably mid 30's, good looking, personable..and he's chatting up a storm with me while we wait our turn...then he takes his business card out of his pocket, and says if I ever need a man (I broke out laughing) he tells me that he has a business and can do windows, yard work/painting/shovel snow, light contruction etc.etc at great prices..so I say "I need a man like that, best you move in at my house" so the men behind me are all laughing, this younger man keeps saying, call me, call me, I'll do anything' so Suzane pipes us and says "are you trying to pick up a guy again Betty?" guy says no, 'I'm trying to pick her up" so as we're walking out, he's holding the door, saying anything you need done, call..my name is Johnny..bussiness is called
JAWS: J for Johnny's A for awesome W for window and S for shine...
too cute...well, do have windows that need cleaning.. won't say what else could be done..lol

Yesterday I posted this on the Prayer Forum: appreciate it if you can keep in him your prayers...

Just got a call from Bernie my 58 yr. old brother..he hasn't been feeling well of late but things are getting progressively more overwhelming for him..both in health and in his finances...he's never had an easy life but managed to stay positive..he's losing ground now..

He is such a versatile individual, if you can think it -he can make it...his company closed about 8 years ago, at that time he built himself a lovely home and decided to start his own construction firm..you know the types you can call for your project and they can do each stage from start to finish...no sub-contracting...

The past 2 years have been a nightmare..his grandson whom you all prayed for had brain surgery and thanks to those prayers survived with just minor damage to his motor skills..thank the Lord...

Then Bernie took on building a home for an individual and never got paid for the entire amount of work done! Shortly afterone he and his family escaped with their lives early one winter morning as a fireplace caught fire and did more than $250 thousand damage to his home...in blizzard conditions repairs had to start immediately so he took out a mortgage type loan at high interest rate to reconstruct...needed a roof/walls..couldn't wait for the insurance in order that not all was lost..cranes came in, supplies ordered, manpower hired...only to find out 2 weeks later that the insurance company said they did not know about the fireplaces and therefore NO insurance...by now he was fighting bouts of depression.. no money/no job and health problems to boot...

Finally, 2 weeks ago he was in court with the individual who owes him money for the work he did and he won his case..wonderful, but the man says he has no money to pay, will make minimal payments but that doesn't help with the loan/mortgage Bernie took on...

On Tuesday he goes to a priliminary hearing with the insurance company re house fire in hopes that they can come up with a settlement..his lawyer thinks he has an excellent case but, if you don't have the $$$ to keep fighting then what do you do...lawyer feels they will set a court date..ok, doesn't help with loan/mortgage though does it...

Because of the mortgage he took out to re-build the home (no alternative but to do so) then closing his company (lack of work) he will shortly lose his home...cannot keep up with payments..

Just an hour ago he called me at work to say they discovered he has sugar diabetes, not end of the world with all the great meds they have now daysand specialty diets, but also they found something in his prostrate..so Monday he goes for pre-op and on Friday 13th of March he has an operation...

So dear prayer warriors, could you please add a prayer for my brother...he so does need something good to happen in his life..

I may have rambled on and you won't understand a word I'm saying..but know it's a worthy cause...

I thank you for your kindness!

Betty

Thank you Liz, welcome...how are things in your neighborhood today?

Did you ever know someone Liz that if something is bad it's bound to happen them? we'll that's what Bernie's life is..always a drama, not often of his making..I am worried about his health more than his finances..

Yesterday when talking I felt so heartbroken for him..he was actually playing in his shop making cottage type birdhouses..so will drop in and ohhh/ahhh and buy one ..then I've a few things I could do with having done in the house, he's not well enough to undertake these things but perhaps on the days he's up to working he can, he won't take hand-out, but will do work that is needed done...

JUST FOR YOU..

First, my car broke down
I was very late for work,
But I missed that awful accident
Was that your handiwork?

I found a house I loved
But others got there first
I was angry then relieved
When I heard the pipes had burst!

Yesterday I found the perfect dress
But the color was to pale
Today I found the dress in red,
Would you believe, it was on sale!

I know you are watching over me,
And I'm feeling truly blessed
For no matter what I pray for
You always know what's best!

I have this circle of DG friends
Who mean the world to me
Some days I "send and "send"
at other times I let them be..

When I see each name appear
And view the mesage you have dent
I know you've though of me today
and 'well wishes' are your intent

I am so blessed to have these friends
with whom I've grown so close;
so this little poem I dedicate to them..
becaue to me they are the "MOST"

So to you, my friends I would like to say
Thank You for being a part
Of all my daily contacts
This comes right from my heart...

God bless you all is my prayer today,
I'm honoured to call you 'friend'
I pray the Lord will keep you safe
Until we post again

God bless you all!!!!
