Welcome 2009 Gift.
There are a couple sistahs and a niece that still are waiting for their gifts. Bless them for being so patient. But it will be worth it.. as Maid M. would famously say, "You can't hurry perfection".

HEE HEE ME 1ST!!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

You all know I have ADD.. so bear with my posting today. Hope all of you are doing fine.. I see Crissy and Debra posting, so that's good seeing they are safe.
LK, you must be in lala land :D A good greeting is better than no greeting at all!
Yes, this group is the most 'prayingest' bunch of sistahs. Our turn to give you a giant armwrap Judy! All will be well.
Cindy, I used to bowl too. My average is terrible. Think I'll just glue stones all over my bowling ball :(
Your box should be heading your way Deborah!!
Funny, I'm behind in sending Marion her FQs, but I make sure you get yours. Great thing about Maid M.... she is soooooooo understanding. Must be those years of patience her late DH taught her :D
Niece, I like this new lively spirit you have!!! Not really new, but one you hade buried on account of that worthless j-o-b.
Yah Debra, those rocks can make nice rock garden too!! Lol!!
Donna, take a breather now and then please.. you got a lot going on your mind, but your physical self can't keep up with all of that. I just don't want Max to one day return home and find you passed out on the floor!
Sissy, elk sausage must be good. Only game sausage I had was deer sausage. AND it's okay if you don't want to spend some time on plants... When I was a workaholic in another life, my garden and hobbies were sacrificed. Since I quit, for 4 years I went into an overdrive for plants and now I'm taking a slow detour back to that quilting road!!
BBL.. Kel wants lunch!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Sissy has got the perfect yard for planting. It's been about 3 years since I was there last. Her back yard is huge, lots of sun but it does get real windy there sometimes. She can tell us more of what they have done since I was last there.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

If it's too windy, that can deter one from enjoying a garden.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh yea how well I know. It gets windy here too for like days at a time.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Worse when the pine pollen becam airborne thanks to the wind. Besides the allergies caused to humans, our red and white trucks become yellow!!!!

Glenview, IL

Clap,clap,clap...I am second..besides Jaye!

Anyway he is getting operated on this afternoon.
Thank you all for hugs and prayers and kindest of thoughts for us.

You all just make me happy to be part of the Sistahs.

Jaye the tornadoes aren't going to come through here until around 2am tonight.

Well, I seem to be doing better today, have only had 2 minor cramps, one around 7am and the other around 9am, so Yay!

I don't know if you all caught it at the bottom of the other thread, but Dave is going to stay home with me tonight, he finally got mad at his work. he's worked 3 1/2 weeks in a row without a day off on 3rd shift (graveyard) and he's the only person who pulls parts on 3rd for several different departments, totaling about 20 guys. They kept him so busy last night he didn't have time to make a cup of tea, let alone drink it or take a lunch break, then when the dayshift guys came in they told him that he's lazy and needs to work more, and there was too much work left over from him. Oh he was pissed and said he's staying home with his wife making sure she is safe is more important than being yelled at for not working when there are 3 people who do absolutely Nothing, plus lie on their time cards and never get in trouble for anything. I was wondering when he was finally going to get tired of being taken advantage of. He was so mad he was almost crying.

Coushatta, LA

Hey everybody!!!I will talk to y'll later got to go and dye my hair back red.So Chow for now ladies.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Dave, you made the right decision!! Your mental health, physical safety, and your wife should be your priorities .. over a j-o-b that goes unappreciated..
Proud of you!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Hey Judy.....keeping you and brother in our prayers........
Oh, the pressies are the things Laura sent to Deborah!!!

Laura, she took a fall on our nice uneven sidewalks down town Friday night.....she is doing fine now, a few scuffs but the swelling has gone down....mostly she is packing and searching for a house.....they have to move the first of the month....she is enjoying not having squabbling kids under foot.....

Surprised you can't hear my mother fussing from here.....Halleujiah her Dr. Appt. is this afternoon !! The problem....it is snowing hard right now! I keep telling her it warming up and supposed to turn to rain right after lunch.....we will call a cab or take a bus....I will carry her if necessary but she WILL get to that appointment!!!
It is STILL pretty.....was going to get a quick video clip and a couple of pic but my battery is out so I hope it lasts long enough to get a charge on the camera..

Cindy, hope you get it all worked out with your hands.....DH has arthritis in his hands...not fun.

Hope Kimmie is okay......has anyone heard anything from Tia....haven't seen her post in a long time......or Bonnie..........

Well, need to get a few things done before we leave so will check in a little later..

LOL Jaye, oh please I am the very last one to be upset with a late swap item. Things like that do not bother me--yes maybe I did learn that from Ross. I know people get busy, things happen unexpectedly, we just are tired and so on so forth. Take your time sweet one as I want have much time to myself until after March 23. Watch out then!!!

Off to have my ear checked. Sharp pains makes me think there is fluid trapped--happens a great deal. So this dizzier than usual blond will check back later.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Marion, sure hope you are feeling better soon...

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Afternoon Y'all...Cookie got back very late last night, and I am guessing that they were exhausted and are sleeping in...I haven't talked to them, or seen any signs of life over there yet...
There isn't even any wood smoke coming from the chimney from the wood furnace, and if they were up, Bro would have that thing roaring...

It is 55* here, dreary and had an early rain...so bed sounds like a good place to be...I have been clearing out my dining room and getting things off the walls etc., to get it ready to paint...

I got a wonderful new french country table to put in there, and DH is going to build a bench to go with it on one of the long sides...I had two chairs already that I am going to crackle finish to match the table and bench and two new ones I just got that are french country style that I will leave natural...

I just got off the phone with Kathy, Jordankitty, and we had a wonderful long chat... What a sweetie!!!

Here is my new table....LOVE IT!!!

Thumbnail by DustyDS
(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Dusty that is Beautiful!!!! I love the Crackle finish!! Mom and I have used that finish on several projects over the years.

Question.....what kind of clay did you say you use...and where do you get it??

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Love that table....

LK... he loved the day with Don at AA center.

GUESS WHAT I GOT TODAY !!!
Kim of Kimarj (The exotic one) sent me a beautiful Tangerine Cross Vine...
Kim is my Welcome 2009 swap buddy... and every couple weeks another package arrives... they just keep coming ... first she sent me a beautiful Thomas Kinkade night light, then a gardening calender, candle, and a decoupaged light bulb.
Enough, Kim... you've outdone yourself already... I'm so happy with all my things...

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

It is Paperclay....I recommend this one from Michaels for beginners, because it is alot cheaper than the one that I use, and it is an air dry clay, so you have to be fast....It dries white, but water based craft paints can be blended into it...I don't do that...I paint mine afterward, or I use people makeup...Blushes etc...then it is sealed...

The one that I was going to start you all on is Sculpy, which has to be baked in a toaster oven in order to harden...It comes in a bazillion colors too...It is a Polymer clay, and NEVER use your home oven to bake it...

The new boxes I just got are an air dry clay as well and do not need to be kiln fired, and I got them at JoAnn Fabrics for $7.89 a 10# box, BUT you have only about 30 minutes to get it worked with before it starts to harden...I have never used it before, and the directions say you can use a spray bottle if you need more time...I'll get into it for you maybe tomorrow, and see how it works on a test piece...It is not paper clay, just air dry clay...something new to try...If it works well, I may switch as it is by far cheaper...

Edited for a dozen typos...LOL

Wow, nice table Dusty!!
Was over Lurking in your thread, saw it there earlier.

Hey can you or someone send that list again!! I semed to have misplaced it. Went to a thrift store yesterday, all I could remember is the toaster oven and pasta press thing. LOL, neither of which did the place have!

Oh,oh...I have cooked sculpy in my oven. only a couple of times on really low...oops.

Hope joyce had a wonderfultime on cruise too.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I will try some of that.....

Just curious, I have used the polymer clays for years and have used my regular oven most of the time....I have the toaster type oven they sell for polymer clay but have not been very happy with it...........?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Judy, have had my pasta machine for many years...decided the number of times I made pasta it would get much more use with clay......I have only ever seen one pasta machine at any of our thrift stores here so as a last resort keep an eye out for 40% or 50% off coupons for Michael's or JoAnn's....would only end up being about 12-15 dollars that way......last resort would be the acrylic hand roller, but the machine is much easier and much more consistent.

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Well they say to never use your home oven, so I just haven't...but larger pieces like my monster Egret would never be able to be fired in a toaster oven, and that is the main reason I started using the paper air dry...

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Judy, Dusty's instructions.
"Here is your list for the thrifts...

A nice toaster oven...Usually $10 or less...Don't tell me you already have one unless you NEVER intend to use it again...

A solid metal pasta maker...NOT a machine...you need the roller type..

Costume jewelery...find old single earrings, necklaces, pins etc.. Look for the grab bags with a bunch of stuff in it...

bags of laces and trims and ribbons etc...

Look for your grandmothers sheer scarves they used to wear home from the beauty shop on Saturday...any pieces of silk very sheer materials... I have Pics if you need...

OTHER Materials:

Buy or get from Freecycle old cosmetics...Blushes especially, and powders...no creams

Cheesecloth - Look at Leandor, my large male Fae...his shirt...

You will need a small vise and some cheapo chopsticks as well as toothpicks, not the cheapo ones...LOL...Kitchen matchsticks minus the head are handy too...
Wire and wire cutters
Foil
florist wire and tape
Needles of all sizes, especially large needlepoint dull tips...
tweezers...
manicure orange sticks
metal cuticle pushers that are sorta flat

and last but not least...A nice box of Sculpy Polymer clay...Flesh color
I will start you with that, because it doesn't do anything until you bake it...

Hair is going to be a bit more difficult for you, because I have always used hair from Angora goats or other long breeds of goat or sheep...
It can be dyed in strong coffee or tea or various other concoctions... We will go into that later on...I will see if I can find my goat hair source online... "

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Dusty, Kel has two boxes of Amaco Air dry modeling clay.. Should I swipe that from him?

BJ, exotic Kim is one special sistah, ain't she? That is one sistah that whoever knows her, will certainly feel the love :D

Can't chat long, have to pick up the box truck sent for repairs.

Hi Trisha! Hope Laura's feeling better!

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Here is my source for clay....

http://www.clayalley.com/airdry.htm

Coushatta, LA

I will talk to y'll when ever.My baby comes home today until Thrusday and then he is gone again.I will get him back for 16 days.Woooo Hoooo.I will get back on when he goes to bed.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Dusty... the reason they say not to use your kitchen oven to bake polymer clay is because polymer lets off a gas that builds up on the walls of your oven and can contaminate food... HOWEVER... it does take an awful lot of mass baking to build that up...
I bake clay in my oven... but I do turn my oven on "clean" once a month (if not more often) then wipe it out good. So far, we haven't suffered any ill effects. I also use my toaster oven, and clean it pretty often also.

THAT SAID.... and most important.... NEVER bake clay and food at the same time... DUH !!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Most of the newer books are saying just don't put food directly on things you are using for clay and don't put clay in the oven with food...duuuh.....and I usually run the self clean after I have had clay in the oven.....

Time for mom's appointment and snow is still coming down steadily........talk to everyone later!!!

OMG... Bella is too CUTE !!!

My son's neighbor has a Doberman... when I took him home today, the doberman let me pet him... was the first time my son ever saw anyone pet that dog... he's trained to guard the fenced in property... his owner travels on business a lot, and lives alone... so the dog is left there alone most of the time, and his job is to guard the house. A couple months ago the sherrif's dept showed up there... was answering an emergency call and showed up at the wrong house... they went in the gate, and the dog came tearing around the corner of the house in attack mode... my son thought the officer was a gonner... he pulled his gun and was about to shoot when my son called the dogs name... the dog slid to look at my son, and the officer got out of the gate just in time. Bet that officer double checks his address from now on.

We escaped the storms so far, but there's another cell heading our way... looks like Tia Tina might not have fared as well... wish we could hear from her or her mom... our news station says that area got hit pretty hard.

Well, got to go fix Mike some dinner... Don's not home, so it's Pizza night... think we'll eat in the living room and watch a movie while we eat tonight.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I will catch up after spin class.......Beautiful Pup!!!!!!!!

Just got back from Mom's appointment, had do new x-rays, they scheduled her surgery for Thursday, should only take about 30-35 minutes!! Had to go back over to Group Health for an EKG that they need to have first.....but we are all set to go!!! She is in Happy Tears right now. She has been so worried they wouldn't be able to do anything or that it would beweeks before they could do the surgery.....so she is very happy right now.....but she WILL have to stay OFF of it for 3-4 days!!!

Talk to you later....spin class time...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Good news about your Mom's knee Trisha. I know you both are pleased.

Went to the doctor today and definitely have fluid in the ear so on med to help clear it up. I thought it was as it is my usual time for this to start--getting to it a little earlier so it won't do as bad as in the past.

Bright, warm and beautiful here today. Would much rather have been working in the yard but didn't get back home in time enough.

Waving to all and will chat more at another time.
