I'm number two to post! ^_^

Speaking of cups....

How do you take your coffee? My fav when I'm out is a cappuchino. Otherwise, decaf with 1/2 and 1/2 and 1/2 a sweet and low...I want to go get some Stevia. I tried that new Truvia but it's not as sweet as stevia.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Dunkin Donuts coffee, 2 sugars and cream or milk.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like cappuccino too. At home it's a little sugar and milk. Never tried stevia.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

You know what it is, right?

South Hamilton, MA

Tea. Coffee & I never got along--hot chocolate this past week in the cold..

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

At home - teensy bit of sugar and half/half or a little creamer.
If I'm driving somewhere, I'll stop at a Wawa - half hazelnut and half mocha.

edited to say - also at home i'll add some hot "chlockit" to my coffee.

Yes - from a plant.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Hey, where's Harper??? She said she'd see us this morning on this thread. I'll have to check the earlier coffee threads.

I love cappuchino, latte and regular coffee with just a touch of half and half, no sugar. I do drink honey in tea though.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Yummo - honey in tea. Lemon, too, sometimes.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Lapsang souchong

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

I never met a cup of coffee I didn't like. Except ice coffee. I've tried, I really have, to like that, but it just tastes like cold coffee to me, ick. I've found the cheap Stop and Shop brand coffee is just fine. Oh well, I may not have high standards, but I do save money!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Consumer Reports just did a taste test and the old 8 o'clock coffee won. I don't like iced coffee either.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Strong with 1/2 n 1/2.
Iced with sugar and cream occasionally

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

I like a 3 - 1 mix of Vanilla and French Roast (or Espresso - something dark). Grind fresh beans, which I then mix with an equal amount of Folger's Classic Roast for brewing.

The beans to grind are so expensive, I cut it with the Folger's to keep the cost lower.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like it strong too. I like regular flavor - no weird stuff. Hand-picked by Juan Valdes.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Definitely fresh ground beans - no mixing here. DH buys pre-ground, I buy beans. I like getting up first cause I make better coffee.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Coffee rivalry, Deb?

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

We've started grinding ours as well. It smells so good. I make it better, too. At least to me. :) I usually buy the 8'oclock, cuz it's cheaper than some of the others.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I just bought 8 o'clock beans. The grocery store had 2 for 1, so I got one bag of beans and the other already ground. I like grinding my own beans, black pepper, cinnamon, etc.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Never ground my own coffee beans. Is the difference that great?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

oh yeah!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe I'll give it a shot.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Love to grind my own....I find it does make a weaker cup so you need to add more grounds than you normally would.

I like iced coffee but you have to treat it like a dessert with more cream and sweeter than you make a regular cup....ice, cream and sweet and low in the cup first then you pour the hot ( has to be made stronger) coffee over ...delish!!!!!

Real Stevia that is bought in health food stores is incredibly sweet you only need a little with the Truvia I needed to use a whole packet..weird...

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I use the same amt of beans - but find the more fine you grind the stronger the coffee.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes I find that too.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

I live in CoffeeLand - I am surrounded by a variety of bean types & roasts, and too many places that sell them.
My habit started as a young child or so I am told - would steal coffee out of my Mom's cup when she wasn't looking.
I prefer black coffee, mainly because I don't like milk or paying $3 and up for a cup of coffee.
S'bux has a history of over-roasting their beans, so for those of us that started this habit prior to "coffee as an event", it tastes sorta burnt.
Best coffee I've ever had was what was served up in the Cafezinho stands in Brazil. South American beans are just right: Yummy & freshly ground & no burnt taste. Of course, it is customary there to add quantities of sugar to the tiny cup, which to me was equal to coffee syrup. Not so yummy.
Tea - just about any kind. I like hot beverages, especially during the cold weather. LOL - that would be almost year-round, here!

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Jen - I have not heard of Truvia - is it a brand name for packaged Stevia?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Starbucks is horrible. The smell just turns me off. Never even tried drinking it. 'Coffee as an event'! True and ridiculous.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes the FDA wouldn't allow true Stevia to be sold in regular stores only health food stores and had to be listed as a dietary supplement so they had to reformulate it and add some ingredients and change the name....

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I'm here Louise!

Victor, Cooks Illustrated did a similar study and 8 o'clock won their tests, too. At home, I make my coffee 1/2 regular, 1/2 decaf. I had been getting heart palpitations from a full cup of regular. I always have it black at home. If I'm at Dunkin Donuts, I order it large, caffienated with cream and a little sugar. Then I share it with my son.

I've had stevia. I think I'll just stick with sugar. Brown, turbinado, organic if I'm in the mood for fancy. Usually I don't keep any sugar in the house. Honey for tea and maple syrup for pancakes, that's about it.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Seriously - that was the concept that started all this.
They were smart in marketing to target young/new coffee drinkers: those who did not have much time invested in what would nowadays be considered a "mediocre" cup of coffee. If you only know the S'bux "flavour", that is the standard you would probably adopt, or adapt to.
For those of us who pre-date S'bux, we've logged many hours in coffee shops or on the road, or stealing sips from Mom's cup - our standard is different.
I like the idea of creating places of "community" where people of all ages can gather - our rainy weather puts a damper on doing this outdoors. However, the prices are prohibitive for many, and besides, I can hang out at home & pull shots that I actually enjoy, minus the price tag.

Hey Harper! A certain cup size will give me palpitations too.^_^

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Victor - take a deep breath & stick with the shots.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

skaking my head

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Skaking??

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

oops

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Hi Harper! I thought we'd lost you!

Victor - I think freshly ground beans taste richer and more full-bodied to me. I agree with those who said that the strength depends on how fine you grind them...the finer, the stronger. I like coffee and tea strong. As for sugar, I use only raw sugar from Hawaii, but not very much....prefer honey. Strange, but I don't like the taste of sugar in coffee - only tea. I like cold drinks really cold and hot drinks really hot, so no iced coffee for me. yuk.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

that's a combination move, right Deb?
