Charlene, This is my first year growing Red Perilla from seed and don't know much about this plant other than what I've read. The foliage has purple tones and very pretty. Would you like to try some?

Cajun, your first pix is Wedelia. It is a great ground cover IF you retain it in one area, otherwise it will take over your yard. I have been having trouble keeping grass in my front yard maybe I should just throw some out there & let the deer keep it trimmed for me! lol
I have an arch for my Skyflower vines & I have it as a carpet under them. Works real well in that confined space.

Linda, guess you may be right about my Mexican Herb being the hopa santa (Piper auritum Kunth). Mine has no flowers, no fruit... YET! Just beautifully fragrant leaves that you can cook with. You can wrap meats or vegetables IN the leaves, or just shred them and add to what ur cooking. They smell more like sage vs. anise or rootbeer (to me?). They are also highly prolific, popping up new plants, I assume by runners. Drought tolerant, native plants. Even if u don't use them in cooking, they are great foliage plants--similar to Hosta in shape and large leaves.
Will start a list in a notebook so I can start potting up your plants guys! Thanks so much!
Forgot to mention that I have LOTS and LOTS of cannas - all the same variety, about 4' tall purple/green leaves with small red blooms. The blooms don't open much but they DO draw hummers and the foliage is awesome. They multiply faster'n rabbits, I tell ya!

thanks for ur interest guys... haven't had a chance to look at ur lists yet but i will let you know.. i'm not really picky, and have fairly simple tastes. there were a few things i had growing in my garden that i miss.

Thought maybe some of you may not know what a Solandra maxima
(Gold Cup vine) blossom looks like....so I wanted to show you! It's more of a tropical or semi-tropical, I guess...so it may need to be protected in winter. A most unusual flower...and large (@3 1/2 - 4" across)

I'm really hoping that I can come to the RU this year - just need someone to come w/me as Jim get really bored because no one talks about computers, the stock market or other brainy things - flowers and the like so he doesn't want to come. Does any one need a ride from the west side of Houston/Katy or thereabouts? Have car and the gas and the desire to go to the RU - just need someone to ride shotgun.
If I do come I would like someone (can't read all those lists) to save me a pink coral vine or some seeds of same and/or as clematis or passion vine that they have extra of. I don't have anything to trade but may have 2 or 3 confederate rose rootings and some cuttings of same if anyone is interested. The CR is one of the double stays pink for the whole time it is in bloom and is a big flower looking like a huge carnation.
Also bringing some food for lunch and door prizes.

PlantLady Ann, I just informed my DH he may be going with me to the swap. I just moved down here a couple of years ago, and with our hectic lives I've not really made any gardening friends. I had a coral vine a few years back in another house. One of our daughters asked for seeds from it and successfully grew a beautiful vine. Of course when we moved out of our house and she moved out of hers we couldn't take the vines w/us - too big - but brought seeds w/us. Had the seeds in a place where I could find them but our cleaning woman must have thought that I wanted them thrown away because that is what she did w/them. Had some red caster bean seeds there also and out they went. Some people are just TOO clean.....my daughter has the same house cleaner and the same thing happened to her.

Violet Ruellia Is a little one but more of a vine. It has taken years but now just a little out of hand. Not hard to keep pulled up or mowed over.A hanging basket would be beautiful. The leaves are sorta fuzzy. I love the flower and is drought resistant. At Lowe's they called it Mexican Bluebells.
