HAPPY VALENTINES DAY BRUG FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wishing you all a great day fileld with smiles and warmth!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

LK, I'm still working on the quillow! When I feel up to it. I'm not doing really well right now. Having pitting edema, and the doc says when it shows in my legs it's already around my heart. Guess that's why I feel so bad, sometimes.
Aunt B! Glad to be back! I never did get a cutting from that Monster White! (Like I need another brug!)
My living room is decorated with outside plants, too! My new neighbor accepts me, anyway! She's really nice, and we hit it off immediately! She's gonna get another pc, and I'm gonna get her on DG. She'll be hooked, like me!
Happy Valentine's Day, All!

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I do not know what the heck is going on, but the post I started earlier just disappeared and I was not finished. If it turns up and is a duplicate of this, please forgive me.

I said Happy Valentine Day to all.

I told Karen I was so happy she is getting answers and hopefully cures.

I told AuntB not to spoll those buffalo too much and was glad her father is doing better.

Then I went back to check on that adorable puppy and poof, the mail was gone when I came back. I love dogs...large, small and inbetween.

Going to work in the greenhouse today if I have any energy left after I finish taking care of the flock. It is another cloudy, cold day and we are expecting some snow tonight. What can I say? Actually, I know what I could say but it would not be ladylike I can guarantee you. I have the fits of this cold weather and no matter how hard I try, I even signed up for weight watchers a month ago, I am not loosing any weight , in fact I keep gaining a pound or two, loosing it a few days later, same ole, same ole....so until Spring, this will go on. My metabolism is just too slow to burn off what I eat and I love to eat..

Here is a big hug to you all for Valentine's day and a big box of Chocolate Butter Creams and Cocanut Cream candy to make you sweeter than you already are.
I buy them at the Amish Deli we have here at our big Market and they are to die for.

Have a great day. JB

Thanks,Debra and Anjl. She is really spoiled.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

JBerger, I have discovered that when you start writing a post and go back to look at a picture the post disappears. You would think I would remember that, but I still go back to look at a picture and then lose my post.

That puppy is so cute and what a cute name, Mocha. I'd have him spoiled in no time at all. No romantic bone in DH's body so it is just like another day. I got short changed on that big time.

Coushatta, LA

Thanks Pegi, tell your hubby you want to go shopping.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Now Ladies, I have had a few husbands in my lifetime and you do not tell them you want to go shopping, you take the credit card, check book, or whatever, get in the car and go. When you talk to him later, you show him what he bought you for Valentine. It not only gives him a jolt when he sees what you spent, but it will remind him it may be cheaper to purchase at least a card and a few carnations...believe me, it works. I am such a devil for sharing all that with you, but men can be such PITA's at times. And they always seem to have an excuse for their actions. After awhile that gets old.

Cheer up, Mother's day is coming and so is Easter. You could start putting little stickies around with hints of what you want ....that not only drives them crazy but soon they tell you to go get the d***thing.

I am planting cuttings of Spider plants and Wondering Jew today.

How many husbands...? Is that what you are thinking? Well, I was married to 2 Marines and they are both gone. I married a civilian in between the Marines and was married to him for 20 years and he left me for a younger woman. He was 14 years older than me as it was and I was still too old for him. But I gave him the children he wanted. Someday, when I think you all need a giggle, I will tell you that little saga. LOL It is funny now but it was not funny then. But, the good news is, I survived and he paid dearly for his pleasures. Yes, he too died.

How is that for a Valentine Story? More like Friday the 13th or Halloween. Later Ladies.
JB

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

My DH did good this year. He bought me a big flower pot and I couldn't be happier.....he did have a rude awakening when he went shopping for them. How much could a big flower pot cost...LOL

Love the puppy, what a cutie. I am so lazy when DH decided he wanted a Bassett Hound I told him great, I would get him one for our anniversary, as long as I don't have to do anything but love it. 8 years later the only time I have walked or had to care for Bass was when DH was down in his back. I do love on him constantly, best part. New computer and I realized I don't have any pictures on here...darn.

Took my Mom out to lunch and we went shopping. We had a great time, even tho it is cold and windy here! Hard to believe she will be 85 this year. She is getting into africian violets. Think this spring I will see if I can do some swapping for some different varieties. Don't think they are suppose to be too hard to start from cuttings.

AuntB I am so excited for you. A greenhouse would be wonderful especially for little cost...best part. I love building things and you feel so good when you are done. (Altho it seems I rarely feel that because total completion seems to be beyond my grasp! LOL)

Debra, what a great bargin. I love oriental lilies. I have several different varaties and they have lasted for years. I bought a few at the garden show. I know you can peel the bulb like onions and get a bunch of starts, but I don't know how long it would take to bloom. I did it one year and had good success until I forgot about them in a clay pot and they didn't get watered. I am sooo bad about watering in the winter. Summer no problem, winter it is dark when I get home and it is hard to get motivated.

Oh, LK, take a whiff for me! Beautiful!! Good Morning! Didn't make it over here to wish everyone Valentine's Day Greetings.. Sounds like ya'll made out great.. A big pot, romantic dinner 4, 2 and a movie?, and roses bushes and calla lilies and Cody Bee.. that cutest lil Mocha! Just love the name! JB, hope you had some of those candies.. I went to the Topeka Garden Show with my young friend who's father had the surgery... I had gotten free tickets a few weeks ago while at a nursery trying to find some seed starting soil... they didn't have it in stock!!! Can you believe that??? Mid January and no seed starting mix???? Sheesh! Anyway, my consolation was the free tickets...I bought 2 new plants for 2.50 each.. variegated rubber tree and a hoya with white edging on the leaves.... JB, I absolutely LOVE hearing your stories... I had my favorite blankie and a cushy chair all ready to listen! Thanks for sharing.. I'll remember that advice, if I need it for future reference ;) I've been married only once, for 19 years and then the 8 yr stint with the XBF.. I'm a one man woman (when I have one), a manless woman, right now... and it's okay, I function well as a singlet... Joyce AND Miss Karen!, so happy to see your posts.. Karen, so hope they have a plan to get you back in the "pink".. ;) I took some pics of the old garage/greenhouse.. I know it doesn't look like much but I have a mental vision (and I put pencil to graph paper) of what it's going to be...I've done some research on the brick and they might be 100 years old. I want to have a garage door on one side not as wide as the opening now and the roof supports itself so there are no rafters to impede the full heighth of the brugs and nanners... no more trimming to 8 ft!!! I'm just beside myself with excitement Ladies.. thanks for bearing with me. Sorry, no pet pics.. Missy kitty is content... she's my companion and a right compatible one. She sleeps by my side now, used to sleep at my feet when the XBF was around.. no matter what time I go to bed, she always knows and comes to curl up by my side. I'll stop rambling.. here's my future greenhouse..

Thanks Bonnie,have a nice day.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I may need to replace some of the 2X4's, but I want to re-construct the roof with just the frame and lay panels somehow.. the garage measures 17'2" X 18'. Still looking at how to get it from where it is to my property.. hoping I can remove it in sections......I know it looks like it's seen it's better days (I'm sure it has).. but once I'm finished with it, it will be reborn and have a purpose, again. It WAS ear-marked to be demolished... ain't that sad??? I can't imagine trashing all those beautiful bricks...which I will get to know each one, when I'm chipping old mortar off them.. :) I'll have to plan a chipping party or 2 and SOON!
Debra, I meant to mention, I was going to call and see how you found such a bargain on those Stargazers! There are lilies out there that cost over $100! Glad you and Joe had a nice Valentines Day.

Bonnie you are going to have one great GH. If I was there I would help you save all that beautiful brick. I don't move that fast any more, but I sure would give it a try. You need a flat bed truck to move it, I think. Keep us posted on your progress.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Holy Moly Bonnie, that will make a wonderful greenhouse. Wish i could help you. I love to refurbish old things. I am trying to refurbish me today. I have a headache that needs fixing. Sinus I guess. It snowed again last night and being so close to the ocean I respond to the changes in the barametric pressure. My chiropractor finally figured that out. LOL.
I love that little dog. What a cutie. I would love to have a tiny one like that but I would no doubt tramp on it with my one eye. Hmmmm that is not a nice thought.
I was so happy yesterday to see my black pussy willows coming out I took some cuttings and wanted to show them to you. I had purchased two sticks (really were ugly as heck) about two years ago and the rabbits ate the one down to the ground the first year they
were outside. I took what the rabbits did not eat off the ground and planted them and finally I now have two nice size plants and about four little ones. I have been propagating them because I think they are so unusual and beautiful. They come out a deep burgandy and turn black as they open . I hope you can see them in the picture. In a few days when they are black all over I will take another picture. I am hoping to have some to sell one of these days. Hopefully this year the cuttings will be good to grow.
I am so glad you all had nice days yesterday. I did too. I got beautiful roses from my kids and we went to breakfast. I still get a thrill from cut flowers.

Bonnie, what a wonderful building! I can see the greenhouse, beautiful. Love the way the roof is at the top. So exciting.

DH and I went rug shopping, someone please shoot me and put me out of my misery! LOL....third husband isn't going to care how I decorate....just kidding (I think). We have wooden floors, couch made of blue jean denium, the living room, kitchen and dining is one open room, around the entire kitchen is a shelf that has bright colored collectiables (mostly red, white , and blue) advertisements, old signs (coke, hamms beer, Bakers Delight Baking Powder sign, antique bubble gum machine with bright colored gum balls) and the such, with polished metal lights. Over the bar area are 3 lights with glass shades, one orange (orange Crush color), one blue, and one lime green. My DH picks out first an extremely orential rug with all these jewels tones, second he pics a southwest motif rug really dark with brown and what looks to me like reddish purple American Indian design, I agreed and we brought it home knowing I could take it back, no way no how does it match anything....We did buy dining room charis at a big well know furniture store in the midwest, we bought 5 and 2 out of 5 have problems. Now I am concerned about keeping any of the chairs. I hate buying big ticket items, there is so much garbage out there (for not cheap prices). I need this stuff to last longer than me. LOL Way too much stress for a Sunday. I need spring to go outside and play......

Ok I am off my soap box....sorry....LOL

Kittylover your Jasmine is one beautiful girl. I'm a cat lover too, so what am I doing with 2 dogs. I 've had cats & dogs together and they get along just fine. We have one, Tigger, that stays outside most of the time, but lately comes in through the doggie door and goes to sleep at the foot of our bed.

Happgarden, I've discovered men have no sense of what goes together. I'd love the demin couch. My DH says whatever I want in the house, but then tells me what I should put in it. Ten years ago I got rid of an old love seat that was built very well, in need of new material. I could just kick myself for getting rid of it. I would have been better off having it upholstered in material I liked.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Bonnie, see if you can find some old french doors to use for the greenhouse. I have some here that I may use for a make shift greenhouse. DH keeps trying t throw them away!!! NOway! teehee!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Beautiful kitty! She looks so soft.

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Bonnie, you will have one nice GH when it's all said and done. Two years ago a neighbor, who is a contractor, told us he was tearing down an old iron ore rock garage and would we like the rock. You betcha! Hubby made two retaining walls and two flower beds with it. That was no easy task for him as he has never been handy around the house. But he did a good job and they are a nice addition to the landscape.

I can see all kinds of potential with the brick. Maybe there is a architecutal salvage yard someplace within driving distance so you can find windows, doors and the like. There is one near us we are going to use when I convert my shed into another GH. If I lived close enough, I would help too. I love to work on projects like that. It's rewarding to stand back and see your hard work.

JB I used to live on the gulf in south Fl. It was the red tide that would kill me. Nasty stuff. Couldn't even go to the beach when that stuff was around. You could'nt breathe with your mouth open for the coughing. Tore up the sinuses. I hope you get to feeling "refurbished" soon.

Love the dog Cody. We have two chihuahuas. Went from labs to chis. I would like another lab. They are great dogs. The chis make great campers. They don't take up much space. I used to have cats too. I love them. Now I just feed the feral cat and occassional neighbor or stray cat. Going outside to work the beds while the weather is co-operating. Ya'll have a nice day.

Jeanne

Rain started in the early morning hours and is pouring down. Good day for wrapping a blankie around you and reading a good book, or just stay on Dave's Garden and read everything. I've really had my fill of rain for a while. Even the animals went back to bed.

Texasgrower do you happen to have pictures you can post of the retaining walls and flower beds your hubby made from the old iron rock? Always like to see what is made from recycled brick and rock.

Here is a pic of one of the walls last March during a snowfall. This is also before I planted two more clematis, day lilies, put in a four pronged wrought iron plant hanger, butterfly bush and soon to be brug. This whole area has been reworked and is being added too. The blue shed is being stripped to thr frame and then reworked into another GH.

This pic is why I don't plant until April. In April of 2007 we had five hrs of snow, the day before Easter. So I don't care what freeze maps say. If I planted my plants in March I' risk losing them. When we first moved here people told us it hardly ever snows. Ha! We've had three snow falls in three yrs. Not to mention sleet and ice.

I will look and see if I can find a pic of it when everything is greener. BRRRR. Pegi did you get the egg tree seeds yet?

Hello! Jasmine's so pretty... No pics of my Missy... I have some, just not readily available.. but I will post one when she comes in from playing outside. Been busy on the home front.. She's a calico- came to me as a very shy/skeered stray about ?8 years ago.. it took months, maybe a year to gain her trust.. I think she was abused as a kitten.. She was always an outside cat.. She had a litter of kitties so I introduced her and the family to my house.. The kittens brought me such fun and brought back fond childhood memories..I had no problem finding homes for the babies but I had her fixed, and she's adjusted well to the "luxurious" house-cat life style.. lol. She loves to be outside so we work well together and she's pretty good about leaving my plants alone. I won't let her out when it's single digits outside, and she's my beloved companion. Drew is home for a visit (had car problems getting here...(Grrr) I've been downstairs cleaning and rearranging.. will try get some new seeds planted.. (blech! to winter.. I'm still growing stuff and getting blooms :P to winter.)... I'll try to get a bloom pic from something down there.. I'm so enjoying ya'lls pics. On the g-house..when I think about actually doing all the work, getting the equipment and supplies needed and people to help is a bit overwhelming to me.. but I am trying to be patient and take it 1 step at a time..If it's not complete until 2011, that is okay... I've gone all these years dreaming and I know it WILL become a reality. - ;) Slow and steady it goes! Getting there is part of the fun, too..;) How's your lil Mocha doing Cody? Hope we hear from Karen sometime today. Jeanne, yes! Please post a pic of your DH's mason work.. I like the natural look of stone, too Pegi. Jeanne, please tell this Kansan more about "red" tide.. how often does it occur? Joyce, I know what you mean about "stuff" like that.. a comfy chair or bed or even a comfy sweater should last your lifetime.... I think big purchases like that are so stressful. My sis bought a new bed yesterday and called me to help justify her purchase.. I told her she didn't need my help.. She DESERVES a comfortable bed.. she got a bonus at work and it's HER money! I hope she likes it. JB, hope you are feeling better. I LOVE the look of that pussy willow.. Please do post an updated pic when the color turns.. AnjL, I've been keeping my eyes peeled, but now I will look a lil harder for those French doors, glass doors, screen doors and windows....(freecycle and craigs list) I have managed to collect a cool old wooden screen door.. part of the conundrum is transportation for large sized items. My next vehicle will be a truck of some kind with a hitch.. Sunny and cold out today..

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

Red tide is an algae that forms in the water when it is warm. I'm not sure what initially starts it. You don't see it in the water per se. But you can tell it' there. You constantly cough because it irritates the throat. It can, and usually does, tear up peoples' sinuses.

I have projects that take years to do, either because of finances, time or both. My yard has been a three year project so far. Keep the faith Bonnie. Just picking up the brick and bringing it back to your property is a start. I'm fortunate in that my hubby has a Chevy PU. It takes care of all my needs. My car is a 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo Pace Car Collectors Series. It was a Mother's Day gift in 2003. I will drive it until it no longer can run. I hope I can get many more yrs of driving from her.

AuntB, Habitat for Humanity here has a store and you can take old items (windows, doors, etc) give to them and they resale for little money. It is a win win situation. Keeps good stuff out of the land fill, gives us good cheap stuff to buy, and makes money for Habitat. Course there is always driving around when the city gives a "big" trash pickup day....LOL

Cold and sunny here. The garden room has used very little propane this year thank goodness. Must of gotten it all buttoned up, hence the need for a humidifier. Talk about recycle. Humidifier runs I dump it in the water can, water the plants, humidifer sucks water out of the air, and we start over...LOL

So far so good in getting the water garden plants to winter over so far. Fingers crossed they keep doing as good as they are. I decided the plants must of been wicking up the cold from the concrete last year so I put the pots in an old cloth insulated cooler which is on a piece of old plywood I had and keep the pots in the cooker really moist. Think next year I will zip the top and just make a couple of circles for the plants to stick out of.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

ugh! who ordered all this rain!? I have huge ponds developing in my beds! anyone know of an ark builder? it has been raining constant since last wed....sure starts to wear on the nerves!

I know I have no room to complain, not with all the northern folks buried in snow....but gosh it sure makes a person a bit gloomy after a week!

LK, love that varigated brug! need a new purse (strap broke this weekend) hmmm, purse or brug..purse or brug? maybe I can just cut the strap off and use it as a clutch purse! LOL!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

LOL

Ummm, I choose the brug!

LK

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

1AnjL, try looking in a thrift store for a purse. I've seen some really nice ones and you will have money left over for your brug. ^_^ You seem to be getting more rain than we are, but it really poured this morning. It did let up so I could do my thrift store day. Had 30% off because of presidents day, and the store was so crowded. Really should have stayed home. The street was water from curb to curb, now how do I capture all that rain water...........We are supposed to get more rain and I hope it happens when I'm sleeping.

Texasgrower, yes, my seeds arrived last week. I thought I had e-mailed you, but my senior moments are getting closer together. I'm waiting for my grow light, I know he is out in the garage working on it. I'm not fussy, but I guess DH thinks I need a great light set up. Neat wall, I'd like something like that out in front. Neighbor had her yard dug up and they guys threw out so much nice rock. I should have gone over with the dolly and brought it home. I have to learn how to be more aggressive. LOL
