Karen, I am so happy for you. Enjoy life and stay well.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Debra, that sounds like the right way to do it! I'd like to try that!
Karen, glad they found your problem. There are other good meds for bi-polor out there! Good luck!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Debra, I would like a packet and I thank you so very much. I didn't know what to plant in it since the sink isn't very deep. Wish it was as deep as my kitchen sink. Sorry I got rid of the old kitchen sink when I put in new counter tops. Hadn't become acquainted with DG then. I also have a galvinized tub that I can plant in, tried gourds in it last year with no luck. Never tried just sowing seeds, always bought plants and that runs into money when they die on me. You definitely have 2 green thumbs.

Morning all! I am still feeling a little funky, but overjoyed at finding out how to get better now. Again, I thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. It's going to be awhile to recover now and get that poison out of my system. I am still having to take a little of it until I wean off. I am very shaky this morning and weak, but not nauseated.

Pegi I have 2 old cast iron sinks sunk into ground level in my yard. The flowers Deb showed are just beautiful, but I'm a little lazy. My sinks are shallow too. I planted that prolific grower Purple Queen? wandering jew in my sinks. They grow like wildfire, are a hot and gorgeous shade of deep purple and have beautiful lavender flowers as well. They thrive starting with spring, grow and thrive until November where I live, and after freezing cold weather sets in they die back. They emerge again each spring and spread like wildfire, bigger and better each year. I wanted to share that with you in case you'd like to try. I realize I'm not planting a beautiful variety of flowers in it like I could, but it's a reliable show stopper that rewards me ever year.

That purple queen is amazing stuff. If you weedeat some of it or break off a branch just stick it in the soil. It roots and takes off immediately.

I used to live in a home where it was planted in a patch right in the middle of the lawn. You could mow it down to the dirt in Spring during your first mow, let the plants get on up there and then mow around the patch to enjoy it all summer.

Hi girls checking in from work on public ptor.. I too have seeds from that purple queen wandering jew plant that Karen mentioned.. will make up packets with lists of what is in them for you too Audrey.. anyone else?

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Looking forward to doing some planting now. I tried some sweet pea seeds in the sink, but think the seeds were too old. I wasn't surprised that they didn't geminate, but was going to give it a try. Plant sweet peas in the middle of Sept. here. In the midwest we used to plant them right before Easter, but doesn't work in California.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Pegi, will send you the packet on MOnday.. getting your addy now..

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Thanks Debra, will watch the mail.

Has anyone ever put fish oil in soil for plants? Got a brain storm of an idea about the omega3 gel caps. Sister-in-law gave them to DH because the taste came back up. Well, they did on him too so thought maybe they would be good for all my plants. Hate to throw them away unless I can use them this way. By the way, not all Omega3 comes back up tasting like fish. I tried to cut one in half, wrong thing to do. Oil went all over, or how stinky.

Got my last mini rose bush planted, now to watch for results. The yellow one doesn't look too good right now.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I use those capsules in my water that I mix into my soil.. I can't take them either.. so I use three of them to a gallon of water to mix with the systemetics

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Oh good, I can now proceed with the fish oil. I put one in a glass of watet to see how fast it would disolve, not very fast. Thanks for the info.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

hehe, ah, the fish oil comeback burp....yeehaw, nothing like it! YUCKKKK! My vet recommended them for my dogs itchy skin so I give her one a day now. Does the fish oil emulsion in a bottle that you buy at the store do the same thing for the plants?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

that is real fish emulsion.. it has nutrients and vitamins and stuff that makes things strong in the root system.. the capsules we are talking about is just an oil, basically..

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

My mini schnauzer has such itchy skin so I'm going to try fish oil gels for her too. She got under a chair in the living room and started itching her back on the boards. Had to put books under chair to keep her out from under it. Thanks for the tip Karen, wonder why my vet never mentioned it. They would rather sell me expensive meds to give her. Jeez I put more out in vet bills on her than I do doctor bills for me. Wish I could take my dogs to my doctor. ^_^

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Pegi it has worked absolute wonders on mine that itches incessantly and had flaky skin. She also would hide under a particular dining room chair and scrape her body back and forth under one certain piece of wood and whine the whole time she did it. I got results practically overnight. I also use 1/2 of one 1.34mg Clemastine antihistamite, which you can get at any pharmacy counter. It is a generic allergy OTC pill, although not widely know. My vet gave it to me as a prescription, and charged me for 14 pills. I thought it was a prescription drug until my pharmicist friend told me it wasn't. Anyways, I went to the pharmacy and got the bottle of 100 Clemastine, break them in half. per Dr.s orders. She gets 1/2 Clemastine and 1 fish oil capsule together in a Greenies pill pocket every morning. She has not scratched since.

I will tell you however, as you realize, the fish gels are large and rather hard to get into a dog. I will recommend to you the best thing since sliced bread, although a little pricey. Go to Petsmart or Petco and look for a pouch of Greenies Pill Pockets. They are not with Greenies biscuits, they are on the "medicine" isle, with the dog aspirin, vitamins and such. They are about $6.00 for the pack of 30 tablet sized and a coupla bucks more for the large capsule sized which are needed for the big fish oil capsules. They are wonderfully moist and meaty little pockets that you shove the pill into, pinch it closed and the dog scarves it all up and swallows it whole. My dog comes running when she sees me with the pill bottle alone even, without the treat yet.. It is her favorite time of day when I used to have to hold her down and shove down her throat.

Thanks a lot Karen, sounds exactly like the problem I have here. Can't wait to try it. I never had trouble giving her pills before because I would put some peanut butter around it. If I can't get her to take this I will try the green pockets. Would be better because the peanut butter is fattening and she is overweight now. She is a little pot belly pig in a schnauzer suit. Oh ya, the scratching back on the chair makes them feel so good they whine. Sure would like to solve that problem

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Sure Pegi, so glad I was able to help you. This is my new rescue baby and the foster mom spent over 8 vet visits, shots, skin yeast infection treatments, shampoos, you name it. This was a chronic, ongoing problem with Lexi. I myself took her to the vet 3 times until we finally hit on this working solution. She will have to take it daily for the rest of her life, but it's a small price to pay for her comfort. It's allergies, just like humans have.

Again, the Clemastine is an old timey, very generic allergy pill that is totally safe to give dogs daily, just like Benadryl tablets. You may not be able to see Clemastine right there on the counter, but if you just ask the pharmacist as sometimes they keep it behind their counter, or may need to put an order for it on their daily delivery because it's not commonly asked for anymore. My pharmacist was glad to. I payed $20.00 for 100 tablets, and only use 1/2 a pill daily. My vet charged me $20.00 for a little bottle with 14 tablets in it. Love my vet, but sometimes you pay cash for your lack of knowledge, and see....my vet didn't tell me it wasn't special prescription, although it was in his clinic prescription bottle and re-labled as a "prescription"..Good luck!

my vet has me giving my Beagle benedryl for the skin allergy from the outside that gets on his feet.. he chews at them so much we had to also add cortisone pills.. I give him those pills wrapped in a piece of cheese and he swallows them whole( as all dogs will when given a treat after you make them beg) his heart meds are also given the same way.. poor guy has fluid on the heart and it is enlarged... the tumore on his chest has outgrown the egg size and now is half the size of a baseball.. poor thing.. it does not bother him tho.. thank goodness..it has not snowed like this yet this year.. he loves his little ole man sweater , tho

Good morning girls, new thread here

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Afternoon everyone,
Had a chat with Aunt B this morning and she said she is really busy right now but she will be checking in soon.
Love your dog stories ladies. I would be lost without my old Barney. He too has those fatty tumors and they do seem to get larger with time. He looks like he has boobs . He has two on his chest just where your boobs are. Hysterical. I may have to buy him a training bra if they keep growing. LOL Have a good day and stay warm.
