Happgarden and Linda Kay thank you so much for your support that means alot to me.Again thanks,Cody

Wow, Thanks Aunt B for the recipe. I hate to use a can of beer on the plants.
I can only imagine how good that must smell. I need to find Tea Tree oil and unsulphured molasses. and the liquid seaweed. Nothing is easy. But, I will try.

I love this liust because just looking at all the lovely plants and blooms keeps my mind off our weather. All those who live in the south are so lucky you can play outside with your plants all year round. Of course, you miss out on the wonderful snow (ugh) and freezing rain. No one should ever miss out on that. I think God made an error when he was working on what comes out of the sky if the temp. is 32 deg. and lower. Oh well not going to change, so we live with it. I still envy you all and thank you so much for showing us all the beauties.

I may have to pass on the Buddah Belly because it is not good to have around the birds.
I have some of my bigger plants in the bird room for the sun in the winter and many plants are fatal to birds if eaten. That is a beautiful plant.

I will talk to you all soon. Weather is sunny which means we have some work to do if it warms up. Stay well. Hugs. JB

I wanted to share with the brug addicts my experience with this little Monster White accident. My MW triple Y'd a few weeks ago. I accidently broke one of the branches moving it in and out of the workshop. I didn't have the heart to throw it away so I stuck it in a baby food jar with Vit B1 and water. The little booger now has nubbies, I kid you not. It is only an inch long and no bigger around than my year old grandbaby's pinky finger. Below is a pic to show you. It does sit in a small baby food jar. Those are pint size baggies next to it. The yellowish cups are small cat food containers.

Just to give someone hope and to say, if you break off a branch, no matter how small, root it. It might just make it. I hope this one does. ^_^

Ok, I have been reading about the buddah belly, and now I think I would like to try it. Does anyone here have the seeds still available? I have not read where it will hurt the birds. I did read it is poisinous, but so are the angel and devil trumpets when handling them.
Geesh, why do I keep doing this, I keep telling myself, no more new plants! Yeah right!!!

Morning Ladies!.. Coffee and cinnamon raisin toast this morning (w/ real butter)... Joyce, Thanks for splainin' bout the spice rack.. lol That would work great, cept I'd need about a thousand bottles.. lol I keep mine in small zip locks like for crafts... BUT I make SURE the seed is thoroughly dried first before "zipping".. then they are all in tupperware in my rotter (hydrator) in the frig (till this time of year, then they are spread out on my dining room table, coffee table..etc)... Cody... THAT is a HUGE plant... camellia... I sure didn't know they got that big... doubt they would get that size here and in a pot.. very lovely! I need to go to Daves Garden forum and post interest in a Camellia forum..
We'll keep in touch on the shopping trip, Joyce.. and I've been to the Wichita garden show a couple times... VERY nice both times... I was thinking of maybe going this year... I think it is in March?? I missed the one in Topeka this year.. (not usually as good as Wichita) Horn Canna Farm was there both times (very reasonable prices), and Arnolds always has a booth there, too. Pegi, glad to hear the weeds are growing for you.. :) I'll get a seed packet out of here this week, for you. I'm really tiring of the brown grass/fields and leafless trees... We had dreary rainy windy here this a.m., but it is trying to clear now.. no tanning temps today, but the sun is always welcome.
(SUCCESS in the garage.. Not completely cleaned and organized...but the car is IN - you know, I haven't had my car in there for 2 or 3 years... Nice.. so THAT is what a garage was originally meant for.... not dormant brugs in winter and adult children's belongings??) lol Seize the day and make it yours! I'm taking a tiny lil piece of it for myself!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

LK, it's okay... it's only one more plant.. :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the idea of medicine bottles. I am taking care of my dad, and he uses so many meds, and until now, I have been reluctantly throwing them out, not knowing what to do with them. I will be keeping them now.
We can always make room for one more plant!

Maybe I'll start saving vitamin bottles for seed.. sure, Linda, it's only 1 more... I mean, it's winter... Joyce is seeing blooms... I haven't heard any mention of it being a mite magnet or needing extra special attention.. and it's blooming, now... she said it has been non-stop.. right Joyce? I think she said they sprouted outside in the pot for her.... She so generously sent me seeds late last summer or was it during summer??? I was going to immediately plant them so I put them on the glass shelves above my kitchen sink.. I think they were in a tiny zip lock bag not zipped, maybe or just the paper envelope? Joyce remember? Any way..... to make a long story even longer... I got busy sending cuttings etc, got laid off, the holidays.... and completely ignored the seeds. Last month Jan 14th I retrieved them from the envelope and they looked like the were trying to grow.. they reminded me of a light brown water melon seed... but I noticed the seed had kind of split at one end.. like a leaf would (had wanted to?) emerge from that part.. I was a bit irritated with myself.. I thought maybe I "killed" them waiting so long to plant, but they still looked good, not all dried up..so I planted them, I tried germinating them different ways and .. this is what I've found today.. kind of blurry... taken thru my magnifying glass, but I'm SO hopeful It still looks viable and more plumped up... I wonder if we soak them first, it would help hasten the plumping? - what I've learned... they were stored dry in the south window so ... warm and very bright indirect light, some humidity provided by the faucet... the one I'm hopeful for was just snuggled in on TOP of the potting medium, it's been covered on the shelf with a plastic dome providing moisture and warm.. I don't believe I've allowed this one to completely dry out.. a couple I allowed to dry out.. they were covered with medium.. I will delicately investigate those further..

I GOT SOME RAIN LAST NIGHT!!! I know it may not sound exciting to most of you but to me it was heaven.. only rained for a little while and total was 2/10ths of an inch but more than we have had since October. I was so excited... like christmas! I have water in my rain barrell... I can water my plants with rain water... muddy, cloudy water but that is OK.... it came off the roof that way with all the dirt and dust that has collected there for so long. I did not want to wait to wash the roof off first before starting to collect the water because I knew it would not rain for long.. it was a narrow storm ....I bet there are a few inches of mud on the bottom of my rain barrell! LOL

Just wanted to share my excitement!

OH, hello everyone! JBerger... glad the tree farm did so well .. too well, guess you will be planting a lot of new trees this spring!

Tammie

Bonnie, that Camellia Shrub i think is about 40 years old. They would be bigger then that ,but they have been pruned back.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Buddah Belly is in the mist of mites and who knows what and could care less, it is blooming and setting seeds....yeah my kind of plant....LOL As soon as I figure out what I did with the other seeds I will post and send as many as I have out. Course that is if I can find the seeds.......if I had all the time back I spend searching for what ever it is I just had I would be 20 years old......

The Wichita show is March 4 thru the 9th. Arnolds nor Horn Canna are at the Kansas City show. Lest not the first one. We have one in Feb. and one in March, but I don't remember seeing either company. More home improvements than gardens stuff I think but I go because I can get cheap bulbs. I really want to go to Wichita but seems in the back of my mind someone has volunteered me for something that first weekend in March....need to figure that out cause it isn't in my calendar.

Tammy excited for you and your rain. We have really been dry also. In fact we just got a very narrow rain shower here. Things are really dry and it is really windy now.

Pegi I understand exactly what you mean about moving something. I can remember the original place I had it, and can remember moving it, just can't remember where that is......

Texasgrower, Monster White is great forgiving brug I think. I am so glad that is the first one I rooted. Would of hated to start off with some of the other varieties.

JB what kind of birds do you have? We have an umberalla Cockatoo in my office and then I have two parrots at home. A Quaker and an orange wing amazon. I use to have a sweet loving African Grey...miss him.

One more plant never takes up any room.....

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

We had rain all day but only amounted to 1/2 in. That's ok. We need rain too although not as bad as Tammie and other folk points south. Tomorrow night is supposed to be a gully washer for us. I hope so.

Bonnie, your little seed will sprout. It's practically bursting at the seams now, it sounds like.

I am saving seed in used baby food jars. I reuse just about anything. We don't have to take meds here so I don't have old pill bottles. My grandmother used to save seed in hers.

I wish we had garden shows here. I don't think Tyler has them and I refuse to go to Dallas. That place scares me. Too many people driving too close and too fast. Country driving has spoiled me rotten.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I didn't think I would be sick of the rain, but I'd like a break now. We don't get any during the summer so I should be thankful for it now. I think my weeds are growing inches by the day now.

I have some tiny jars I've saved for seeds, now to keep them all in one place. My DH takes a lot of meds and I have thrown some bottles away but now I'm saving them for seeds.

Son just came in and gave me two plants for Valentine's Day. One is called Tiffany Rose (pink) and the other is Parade Rose (yellow) . Guess I'm back in the rose business again. I've lost so many mini roses, but the last one he bought me I put in out in front with my big roses and it is doing so well. I guess letting them live in pots isn't the answer.

Jeanne, three of the four seeds you gave me have sprouted.

Hello everyone. I'm sorry to report that after 2 weeks I am still constantly nauseated and vomiting at least once per day. I have finally given up and made a Dr.s appt. today which I know Bonnie will be glad to hear ☺ Doesn't make sense...No fever, diahrrea, no dehydration, just miserable. I've already gone through 8 days of Phenergran at it didn't help at all. Just wanted to let you know I still love you and am hoping to feel better and be more active soon. Take care and HUGS everyone!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, please take care. Glad to hear from you, but you need to take care of yourself. Let us know what the Dr, says please.
LK

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Prayers for your recovery, Karen. How miserable you must feel. I am so sorry. I think you will be better if the doctor can settle your tummy. If that was me, I would say I was pregnant.....whats a matter, you do not think an 80 year old can get pregnant?
I went to the doctor's for a check up the other day and I had to fill out a sheet of paper that you have to fill out every darn year. I was so annoyed that I had to do this again that when I came to the question that ask "are you pregnant" I said YES. I want to see how long it is until someone actually reads that stupid paper. I have been a patient there for 20 years and have filled out the same form each year. That is BS in my book. Forgive me but I am becoming very intolerant at the waste in offices. It all costs us money. I can see asking if the insurance cards change, but to fill out a whole two page sheet is unacceptable.
Having said that, Karen, please remember I am praying for you and my prayers are always answered because he is afraid of what I will do next. (I am so bad).

Happygarden, in answer to your question regarding my birds, I have only 6 birds left just now. 3 parrotlets (one of the smallest parrots available), a female sun conure, a male green pied lovebird, and a double yellow headed amazon. I have bred and/or raised all of these birds from babies. Handfed them all. I bred medium sized parrots, lovebirds and canaries for nearly 10 years. It was the most rewarding thing I have ever done. I enjoyed every single sleepless night. LOL. New babies must be fed around the clock for the first 24 hours. Here is a picture of a basket of babies I had called The Dirty Dozen.
They are parrotlet babies and all were being handfed at the same time.

Hello everyone, Yes, I'm always lurking and enjoying all the great things you post. Karen, I so glad that you are going to the Dr., and I pray that you will get relief soon. Love to all of you, AND, here I go again...will someone please post a pic. of the Buddah Belly plant. I remember when I first asked about the Brug. LOL and now my sunroom looks more like a greenhouse than a room. Last but not least, Bonnie, I'm so proud of you and your bowling ball. It is already pretty and I just imagine how the finished ball will be. Please continue and do post pics.
Love to all

Just came up with another "seed holder". A friend is diabetic and tests his sugar every day so the tiny strips come in the cutest little black plastic container with attached lid. The inside has another plastic in white. He gave me some and today I was looking at them and thought what a neat seed container. Of course they are small so if you are gathering lots of seed you would need a few of them.

Stopped raining for now and sun came out. Standing in the sun feels so good, but you still have to wear a light jacket.

Going to take pictures of my valentine plants and misplaced my camera. I remember laying it down, but now to figure out where. These senior moments are becoming too much for me.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Aww Pegi.. LOL... find that camera and take the pictures! It just stopped raining here.. caught a full blown rainbow as well.. it was nice.. got lots of rainwater in some tubs.. DH had me take a pic of the rainbow , but it was not a good picture.. *sigh*

Peg, we are zone 5 and my Mom puts those little tiny roses out in front of her apartment and they do just lovely. They look so delicate that I thought these are never gonna make it but they are happy campers. So they should be a snap for you.

Karen, sounds like gall bladder, my Aunt just went thru that exact same thing before they figured it out. Lost a bunch of weight before they did surgery.

Debra we would yell before going, we won't without you...promise. I would like to go but in the back of my mind I think I promised to do something. If I did I sure wish someone would remind me....LOL

JB, is the double yellow head a talker? On the first and second floor where I work they have art shows and once in a while the people take tours in our office. People will ask if the cockatoo talks. I reply guess not I still have a job. People give me the strangest looks...LOL I know people don't like starlings but I raised one from a naked baby and we couldn't get it to leave home. He would go out and come back..LOL So it was in a cage by the front door and apparently every night coming home I would say Well hello buckwheat! and one night I said well hello buckwheat and he looked back and me and said well hello buckwheat! I about fell out. From that point on we taught him all kinds of phrases and he could whistle jingle bells, mexican hat dance, and of course someone taught him to wolf whistle (DH). A really fun bird. I know most people don't like them...and it isn't illegal to keep them because they are not a native bird of North America. They were brought over by the English. Enough about birds sorry.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

My doctor said I had gall stones, but I've never been bothered. Asked if I wanted to see the surgeon....Ha, if it ain't bothering me leave it alone. I didn't know how sick you could get with a bad gall bladder.

I planted one mini rose in the ground and it is doing good, so I better do the same with these. Got to pull out all the weeds so I can find the rose bushes, always find something else that needs attention first.

I guess DH is getting tired of me talkiing about the grow light as he was out sawing away, has to make it HIS way and that will take a while. I don't need anything fancy, well will see what he comes up with.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh karen! {{HUGS}} it DOES sound like gall bladder! I had the exact same symptoms before they did emergency surgery and took mine out a few months ago...that was surgery #1 of the 3 I have had in the last 4 months. Hoping I am all done now! I also had really bad heartburn, so bad that even if I didnt eat anything, I'd be up all night with it. the heartburn is the reason I went to the ER, just so I could finally sleep thru a night. and thats when they told me it was the gall bladder. Hoping you get some relif soon, the surgery was pretty simple...compared to the others I had! LOL! please keep us updated!

What is the name of the lil roses you are talking about? I might need something like that in my new beds..... :o)

Coffee is on ladies.
Morning everyone.
Time to wake up!
Karen, Praying the Dr.s find out what is going on, and get it fixed real soon.
Anjl, how are you feeling?
LK

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Still patiently waiting on the test results........I am sorry to be so graphic but I vomited on the way to the Drs, in his office, in his bathroom and last but worst all over myself while driving home. I cried all night. I can't take much more. I had blood tests and abdomanal xrays done at 5:00 yesterday. Can you have gallstones without a painful gallbladder, just vomiting? Spicy, bland doesn't matter. I will throw up saltine crackers or 4 little peanuts......sigh........

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Happe, if you want to talk birds, you can email me privately any time. Yes, Gunny talks, I call him a closet talker because he only talks when we are alone and he thinks no one is listening. When I come in the house from outside, he says BRRRRRR, cold. He has quite a few fun things he says. Sorry ladies, I did not mean to stay on birds but I wanted to reply to Happe's question.
I see many of us are in the same boat, it stopped raining/snowing and the sun is shining.
I was moving plants around in the greenhouse this morning and I really need to get some out so I can start my seeds. The weather is just too cold until at least April 15th and even then I am pushing it. Seeds for outdoor plants need to go in soon in flats. I am getting ready for Spring sales. I would love to have brugs to sell, but this year I am worried the economy is going to hurt us all. I see Brugs in many of othe catalogs this year. Maybe it is because I never knew what they were before.
Did you see the new Logee's 2009 catalog? Big beautiful Brugmansia "Angel's Dream' p.p.a.f. it is their excliusive hybrid that starts blooming at only 12 inches tall. It says the perfume is similiar to Brugmansia "Inca Sun" They want $29.95 for a 4" pot. Sorry if I am late talking about this or if it has already been discussed, as you know I am just catching up from the Holidays.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning JB, please feel free to talk about anything here. Is is in the general discussion thread, so we don't have to talk just about the brugs! I went to look at the brug at Logee's, and they are sold out already, but it sure looks pretty. A beautiful yellow one, that turns deep orange with maturity! Plus it says The lateral branching habit makes it perfect for containers or hanging baskets!
If it comes back in stock, I will order one for sure. I would love to see this in a hanging basket!

Karen, please take care! Praying for you to heal soon.

Howdy Howdy Ladies.. Karen.. I'm so comforted to hear you went for tests.. I hate drs too, but sometimes... they ARE necessary.. Please let us know what you find out.. My prayers and positive thoughts are with you... you aren't pregnant are you?? :) LK, thanks for coffee, and FAYE! Thanks for posting.. I take comfort knowing you are one of our lurkers.. :) hope you're anxiously awaiting spring... Debra, we wouldn't think of coming to Wichita and not letting you know..... hope things are going good... I didn't get much done yesterday... I did take my Wally world 50 cent packages of spring bulbs and my friend donated his and we planted 6 dozen bulbs in our city park yesterday... not a lot, but hope to add some color... We have a round wooden gazebo and our park really needs some maintenance.. It's a little side project we've put ourselves on-beautify the community if we have to do it all by ourselves.. Nice, warm, sunny, little windy yesterday... then this morning... snow. It's okay... it IS winter (sorry for those of you in denial;) So I wait... my target date for outside is May 1st.. Thx, Faye, the bowling ball is put aside on nice days... it's a winter project ;) I will post pics once I get it finished... Honestly, when it's nice outside.... I'm out there. Soaking up the solar energy.. Debra, sounds like you are busting at the seams for April 15th.. JB, LOVE hearing your stories, on whatever subject you want to talk about.. I like your "trick" at the drs office... has anyone questioned you about it, yet? I'm dog-earing almost every page of that Logee's catalog... that's where my original plants came from. Sometimes their stock is small but I've only ever lost one epiphilium from them...You HBA's and catalogs and digging in the dirt is what is keeping me relatively sane this winter. (course that IS my opinion.. lol) AnjL, you ARE one tough cookie, I admire your coping skills.. I know you had other important issues during the times you were dealing with your own medical issues.. So glad it's behind you now. A question for you... do you have a miniature garden? (Somehow I ended up on the Tiny Garden Forum the other day) I think I must start one this year. Cody, I still need to post interest in getting the new Camilla forum... I sure like how the blooms are all perfectly positioned, it makes a wall of beauty... it's natures magic!

Palestine, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm telling ya folks, I'm losing it. I have my cuttings confused. The little bitty broken stem that is nubbing up isn't Monster White, it's a NOID that Bonnie sent me last Fall. I looked at the pot today when I was putting it up for the night and saw NOID white. Yeesh. Whatever it is, Bonnie, it's a survivor. You should see the nubbies on this tiny thing.

Karen, I was thinking like Bonnie, you couldn't be pregnant could you? I do hope you get to the bottom of this soon. I know you are miserable.

I have a four day weekend this weekend and I'm going to sow all my seeds. Then work on getting beds ready for hydrangea, brugs, hibiscus, day lilies, cannas and so on. I love playing in the dirt. I hope some of my seedlings can hang on until late next month to transplant. I have a Haight Ashbury that is outgrowing it's pot post haste. I have MGs that need a new home too. They are dying to climb and I keep wrapping them around their bamboo tepees. I'm planting four camellias by my encores and pink dogwood too.

Spring isn't too far off for us southern folk. Am I ever ready!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I found my camera, sitting right in front of my nose on the kitchen table. I took a couple pictures of the small roses. They are mini roses, smaller version of our big ones. The pink one is called Tiffany Rose and yellow is Parade Rose. I'll be putting them in the ground soon, after I pull up all the grass and weeds that popped up with all the rain.

Hi all, sorry.... I've been kinda busy working on a new CO-OP for BRUGS!!! teehee!

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/951918/

Okay, now that my lil advertisement is out of the way ^_^....

Karen, yes, it still can be gallstones, I had no pain in gallbladder area...just really bad vomiting and heartburn :o( I sure hope you get test results back really soon, and get much needed/desired relief even sooner! I lost about 40 lbs after my surgeries...so maybe there is an 'upside' to it all! I havent been at my Drivers License weight for many years! LOL! Now I weigh less that what that license says! ^_^ just hoping that with diet and exercise/gardening I can keep that weight off!

I went to docs yesterday, doc thought I had a UTI, so gave me a prescription and sent me home. Called me back today and said dont take prescription! I dont have a UTI after all, instead its a kidney stone :o( I really dont need anymore pain in my life! now I get to drink lots of water and wait for the pain to hit :o( I go for an ultrasound on Tues to see how it has progressed, then on thurs they have me set up for CT of the kidney to see whats going on...this is same kidney I had infection in :o( I really just wanna go back to work! LOL!

so, in the meantime.... will just do Brug/Mandevilla/Hibiscus co-ops! LOL!

{{hugs}} to all!
