Stir crazy, but there's nothing much in the nurseries yet

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

OK, I read as far as pop corn and snickers, and knew I belonged here.....
and dust remaining on the knickknacks...yep, this one is for me.

Having said that, I am going back and read from the top to see what else I might have missed. Thanks Polly, you sure steered me in the right direction.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Welcome to our new happy home, Sharon.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I love it Zuzu, haven't felt this good about a thread in a long time! Thanks.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks for coming over Sharon.

It really seems a good group here! I'm loving it so far.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Me too, Polly. Believe me..... me, too.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Once again here I am surrounded by estrogen...can we get another guy to post in here ???

Let's see...who can I convince to join the fun ?

Purrrfect, Sue!

Hello JD, been a long time.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Too funny, Sue.

Just got an email from Annie's Annuals Nursery for this Flickr slideshow you may enjoy:

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Oh how pretty.
A reminder of good things to come.
I really needed that, thank you.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Wow, Sue. Isn't that about 10 times as long as the usual Annie's slide show? I have got to go there. Maybe Joanne and I can get down there sometime this month and you can meet us there. I have a calendar for you and the months are swiftly passing.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the link to the slide show Sue. That is certainly a much more beautiful way to start my day than what's out my front door at this time of year.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I got the photos on an email from Annie's last night and thought I had been transposed to dreamland as I looked at each of them. Great photography.

JD - you should feel right at home with all females surrounding you! We'll make you our mascot.

Southern Dutchess Co, NY(Zone 5b)

JD said: "Once again here I am surrounded by estrogen...can we get another guy to post in here ???"

I am the lone female in a male-dominated house. I also grew up with 3 brothers. This is a unique situation for me! Imagine being surrounded by all that testosterone!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Let me know Zuzu, even if I go this week, I'll gladly go again! I went in Dec. and they were already freshening up the display beds with new plantings, April should be looking like their slideshow photos. Those pictures sure makes me long for spring and it's possibilities!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

what are the favorites we have all purchased from there?
I know i love the snow maiden scabiosa, lime nicotiana and butterfly nicotiana.
She is so expensive I can only get a few things. My brother got me four lime green for christmas. What a great bro I have.
I got that peach cosmo and well its pretty but it doesnt look like the picture. the cool thing is I think it reseeded so i think I have a few comming up.

Im gonna watch the slide show again it was so impressive.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I think my best purchase there was the 'Bill Wallis' Geranium. I bought one plant a few years back and it reseeds everywhere so I have it scattered here and there in both the front and back yards. Great for threading through plants and roses. Once it's done blooming, I either cut it all the way back or pull it.

Here it's growing to the left of my Brass Band rose.

its really is pretty, so does it come back all year, or just spring?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I have them pop up and bloom throughout the year but April-May are their biggest flushes, like roses I guess.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Sue, I went to Garden Valley Ranch today with Joanne and told Fallon we were planning a field trip to Annie's with you. She's coming too. It'll probably be the week after next.

The bare-root roses at GVR were spectacular. I picked up the four I had ordered and grabbed several more after I saw them. Thick, thick canes and lots of them. They don't just have all of their bare-root roses piled together in long troughs. Each one is planted separately in a 5-gallon can from the start. If you want one, they pull it out of the can for you. They had hundreds and hundreds of them from each rose company. The David Austins looked especially good! The Tea Clipper I bought has such big canes that it almost looks like a tree.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh goody, field trip!

I loved that Tea Clipper when I saw it there last, gorgeous full bloom!
Are you truly going to have room for all these? I am already in a panic because I want to plant more of mine in the ground and am running out of space because I have so many other plants also wanting the space. Such a dilemma!

I took out two big quinces to make room. I already had so many others, and the bloom on quinces is such a fleeting thing. I'm also giving away lots of my OGR's. They just don't appeal to me as much as modern roses do, and they get too big.

I also bought a gorgeous Camellia at Bassignani today. It's Nuccio's Pearl. I've always loved it, but for some reason I've never had one in my garden.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I just did something so unbelievably stupid that I still can't believe I did it. I was moving my 2008 rose photos to the master rose folder and got a message that one of the photos -- Ambassador 1930 -- had the same name as one that was already in the master file. When they had all been moved (I thought) but the Ambassador 1930, I renamed it Ambassador 1930z. Guess what! I now have 1505 photos named Ambassador 1930z.

I have to go back and rename all of them. Good thing I'm such a compulsive poster of roses in DG. I'll have to match them up to my rose parade threads by dates ... unless anyone knows of a way to undo what I've done.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Sorry Zuzu, you surely do not need computer help from me. Most everything I do is unbelievably stupid when it comes to folders and files.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Zuzu - I did something similar and now have hundreds of photos in "1 a snow" and unless I put a photo there I can't post it.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

and I for sure am the last person to offer anyone any sort of pc advice! It took me 2 years to learn how to post pictures here.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We sound like a bunch of drop outs!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

possibly ! But I failed the entrance exam !

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

here's my container water garden, aka pets' favorite drink dish. It is a 6 gal ceramic container, with an interior glaze. I have had a lily there but the pets disturbed it so much it just didn't do much of anything.

I presently have water lettuce and during warmer periods it fills the whole container. http://aquaplant.tamu.edu/database/floating_plants/water_lettuce.htm

I am hoping my DG friends don't turn me in to the water lettuce police.

I had water lettuce in my pond when we first started it, went crazy. It's gone now. I plan to drain and clean out my pond this month, I ordered 2 new water lilies and 2 lotus from one of the co-ops for delivery next month. I've never tried a lotus so really looking forward to those.

here is a misc pic that belongs nowhere. I was struck by the diff shades of green. the succulent is senecio 'kilimanjaro' and the wispy one is russelia, a great hummer plant.

I love anything in the blue-green foliage area! My Mom has that firecracker plant too. Let me go find my pic of it, it's so cute.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Here it is, it got so long, she elevated it on another pot. I've got my eye out for one too now

Cute tiny blooms, perfect hummingbird magnets!

What I did w/ mine in order to raise it was to insert a tomato cage in the planter. I cut away the top two rings and left only the smallest ring to support the plant. I painted it green so you can't even see it.
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://images.orgill.com/200x200/6757512.jpg&imgrefurl=http://lawn-and-garden.hardwarestore.com/77-482-tomato-cages/galvanized-tomato-cage-132852.aspx&usg=__J9_XHjxiBu8pDY3Zq9rYCr7tFoE=&h=200&w=200&sz=3&hl=en&start=11&um=1&tbnid=j_bfhwIJ3vGNiM:&tbnh=104&tbnw=104&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dtomato%2Bcage%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3Dcom.microsoft:en-us%26sa%3DN

I also have a huge patch of russelia growing inground and I'm getting ready to cut it all the way to the ground as a way to control. It will grow on itself and I've seen one 5 ft tall. pretty dramatic but if you want to showcase diff. plants then this one just becomes a scene stealer.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

when I was a kid we used to suck the nectar out of the tiny blooms. very sweet, no wonder hummers like it

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Vossner, I love your picture that belongs nowhere....the texture and colors pull me right in. Feels like Monet.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

thanks sharon.
hey sue, I just realized you CAN see my plant support in the "nowhere" pic
