So it sounds like a coast to coast type prediction today :-( For here, i'm not sure if that means: snow, ice, or lots of rain, or all three.... we'll just see I guess
Garden Photos of '09......#1
Shelly, those pics of the cherry blossoms are great! I want to see some of them blooming here. Patience, Karen, just be patient!
That combo of red witch hazel and yellow fir sounds fantastic. I do have a yellow Dawn Redwood, but unfortunately, it being a deciduous conifer, the foliage on it is not out when the witch hazel is in bloom.
Karen
Jo Ann just has to open her mouth whenever something so colorfull comes across her view.
Not only are the two trees great together color wise but the ------now get thei art term --- "interplay" of needles and bloom strands of the WH are really great.
Knock yourself out planting stuff. My gardenbank is closed for this year.
Jo Ann I'm glad that you do let us know when something colorful, creative, or artistic, comes into view!!! At least half of them time, I don't notice great combinations like those until someone spells it out for me! interplay makes perfect sense to me, but I don't know that I'll ever remember to use the term. I'll think---"that looks good together." without any real explanation of why :-p
cool shots
I have just assumed your plants in photos were already in a perfect spot since there arent many "long shots" of your beds.
Really enjoying your photos., even the hydrangea leaf.
This is what mine looks like.YES tats about 20 inches of snow.
I'm off to HD to buy more starter soil and kits, coleus cutting today. They are taking over the house.
thanks!
I like that assumption Jo Ann. Lets just say that's the case. But, that why I usually preface the pics saying I took these pics.........
I usually fill in the space with any number of display gardens that I might have walked through over the weekend :-p I like how Jan worded it above.... 'I have visitation rights to floriferous things!' Most of the pics of my own yard right now are in a thread that I posted the link to near the end of the thread before this. the thread is called "frosty stuff." Have fun at Home Depot!! Love the pic. very reminiscent of the season! may it end soon.

I'm about to take cuttings
shelly very nice pics all of them - and what is the yellow conifer? i have a red witch hazel it can go on the list:)
See---this is where we need Victor to say--Interplay--with the plants? Oh, well, loved the yellow fir, & the cherry blossoms---I'm getting depressed with the snow--only my lemon tree is blooming, so the living room smells great! Will check HD tomorrow--the dale is going for his haircut a few miles away---AND, I have a gift certificate to HD!
anybody plant cyclamen with hosta?
I planted some cyclamen... didn't have any luck with them... but going to try again
I went to Seneca Hill Nurserys, they have a huge selection that are hardy.
"hardy cyclamen" not hardy here.
HUmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
The ones I bought are Z5-6
I tried it, came back one year but never bloomed, then was never seen again.
We are 6a, north of Boston--but changes to 5 in NH & west of Boston.
Never made it for me either. I do like it a lot.
that is an awesome shot!
Thanks Allison. After I took a few shots, enough was enough and I shot him with my slingshot. He did not even budge! Kept eating.
Ha, great shot Victor. The squirrel superman flies again. They are quite amazing little daredevils aren't they. You have to admire their tenacity.
LOL... Randy has been known to do that too.... (yorkie) Lily does a good job at keeping them off our feeders
Yes - they really are amazing little athletes. I'd prefer to see the show somewhere else though.
that is a great picture!
you need to post that on the stinkin squirrel thread
Yes, I was thinking about that. I will. Thanks Bill.
so how long did you wait to get the picture - you sure were not just passing by the window
the tree rats have beaten my double baffle defense
Not really that long. From my computer I have that view so when I saw he was getting ready to jump again, I grabbed the camera. High shutter speed needed.
I need to move the feeder, of course. Too close to the tree.
might have to try and get a shot of mine doing the six foot vertical leap. really p---------d me off when i saw them get up there. had just filled them with seed and suet. still haven't gotten around to breaking up the ice layer on the snow.
Yes - you can't believe how high on the tree he starts! Well over 10 feet.
that is a problem! is there another in the shadows?
i had them a few weeks ago laying down in the iced over wet lands sunning themselves and went back to scare them off - they actually were grunting at me as they ran away.
Yes - that's a second one. There is a new bunch of young ones coming around. Counted 10 yesterday when they were running in my neighbor's yard.
so was I
