Jen, you're happy right, cuz I know you like snow.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

had 15 turkey on sunday checking out the bird feeders - they didn't stay long the tree rat's saw to that by consuming the food supply.

Wow. Too early for Thanksgiving?

Anyone ever see Man vs. Wild on the Discover Channel? Last night he caught a wild fowl and they showed him snapping its neck! Ouch.

They make a freezer that big?

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Yikes! Reminds me of when I had to help dispatch chickens, but with an ax.

OH - I know I cant have chickens.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not sure I could do it, but if survival (the theme of the show) depended on it...

Here is one during the 'squirrel national anthem'.

my co-worker here hunts them every year and has only gotten one in the last four years - says they are smart. i've walked within feet of these - says they are good eatin - love turkey - couldn't break the neck though

i saw that guy eating small little rodents a while back. he set up a stick under a flat rock and when the rodent came for the bait - stick dis-logged and rock flattened them.

I've seen that method too. Fred Flintstone approach.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I am so disgusted with the snow. Just watching it gets me more depressed with every lousy flake that falls and it is picking up in intensity now. I would so much rather see the occupants of your little house Jen than the white frosting on top. I'm glad you have some snow finally, if I could I would gladly loan all of mine to you for the duration.

I have a gang of six Bambi wannabes here. DH sees their glowing eyes every evening when he goes out for more wood around the bird feeder. Come spring they will get the scare treatment again.

I don't think bumping off animals for a tv show would really be considered survival in the true sense. He is not really going to starve if he doesn't kill things. I bet the camera man has a candy bar in his pocket.

That's a good pic of the patriotic squirrel you got there Victor. Just look at that face, you know he is thinking about those seeds and how to get his little paws on them.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Look closely at his middle claw...

I'm loving this snow..... sorry guys

Those deer sure look like they made themselves right at home...

That squirrel pic is too cute...

Rut Roh - my rodie must be having a problem. Its not looking like that...........

I might as well consider it dead?

no - just colder or wind burnt - it will recover

South Hamilton, MA

I feel sorry for our Nova Zembla rhodie every day--all other plants except trees under a foot of snow & it is cold here. Supposed to warm up in a couple days, will believe it when I see it.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

my neighbor had a rodie that looked like that... it bounced back the next year

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Shelly, your pics are gorgeous, as always. I love the daphne shot. It shows the glitteriness of the flower really well.

Wow! Great shot of the jumping squirrel, Victor!

I have watched that Man vs Wild show, and was fascinated by it. I couldn't stop watching it. Watched 3 episodes in a row. That was the first and only time I've watched it. Don't watch a lot of TV.

Karen

Thanks Karen. Yes, I just recently got into it too. I like Survivorman too. He goes a week completely alone - no crew. He does his own filming.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, I haven't seen that Survivorman show yet. That sounds good. I saw an add today for a show that's gonna be aired this Sunday at 8 called Pregnant Man. Looks interesting.

Isn't he expecting again?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I don't know. I didn't even know he was expecting the before. I hadn't heard of him before.

Just as long as 8 doesn't appear.

Sheesh, gone only a few hours and I miss a ton.

Thanks all!

Victor, it's so good to have you back here. Things seem to be 'normal' now! whatever that is. Great squirrel pic!

Bill.... one for the list......Abies nordmanniana ‘Golden Spreader’ It sure is cute.

Jo Anne, can we see a pic of your new cyclamen? I've seen Home Depot carry both the truely hardy cyclamen and the non-hardy cyclamen, both were called "hardy cyclamen." It really bothers me when they do that. I almost always start on a (polite) tangent to some empolyee who i'm sure doesn't care. Cyclamen hederifolium and Cyclamen Coum are the only two, as far as I know, that are truly hardy enough. They have smaller flowers than those indoor kinds.

That pregnant person needs to quite giving us Oregonians bad publicity! If it were someone who was actually born a male that was pregnant, now that would be a story!

more witch hazels.

schicken.... what kind of rhody is that up there? It's normal for rhodies to curl up as small as pencils to "keep warm."
But, when did those brownish colorations start in the leaves? It sort of looks as though it might be sitting in sort or 'water-logged' soil underneath the snow. Is that possible? anyhow, I think that the branch on the right might be gone (bark split), but the other four have potential for now! Sorry, you probably weren't asking for a diagnosis. it's just a habit of mine.

RC - its a Purple Passion. I walk by it when I leave the house and it started turning brown a month + ago. Its up against the house facing east. No possible way it can be sitting on water. Its between the 2 balls.

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

The pregnant man (I think, you refer to the one in India) is not pregnant, but a case of fetus in fetu.

Medical anomalies have always intrigued me.

Not a show for the faint of heart. I recently saw another documentary featuring two other cases. Mom was a nurse, and we would always be looking through her textbooks, etc. for pictures ... you know ... the kind that make the skin on the back of your knees crawl.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Don't think this guy was in India. He is actually a woman anatomically.

Lots of medical anomalies in DC.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The "pregnant man" who appeared on Oprah, had a baby months ago.
He/She was going to (try )to have another one.
