I never look forward to it.... the salt truck is back right now... hopefully it will be a bit better heading out
Garden Photos of '09......#1
Me neither!! I sure hope that it is better, good luck!
Karen, there is room but not space. What I mean is like you there is land to plant stuff but trees and brush would have to be removed. The main thing that slows me down is that and the idea of digging into an area I know is full of rocks and roots. My list is for maybe someday when I get more time and ambition for a new dig.
I know that story.... rocks galore here
my car door was frozen shut.... took me a few mins to get it open.. gotta love it
Took a photo of my driveway this morn, but can't open the file, which happens to me! But it was a skating rink---our nice plow man just came & sanded it---yea!! I found a red, hardy WH in the WFF catalog---I'm thinking about ordering it, if I can find a good location for it. Loved the pansy---they are spring to me.
Saw some dripping so I figured I could go out finally to feed the birds and add some water to the frozen birdbaths. Couldn't take a step out of the garage. Still an ice rink here too. Sprinkled some ice melt and finally made it to and from the feeder. The water will have to wait for more melting. Air temp is only 30º but the sun's heat is melting the ice and snow on the roof. Drip drip drip. Any melting is a good thing.
The birds are loving my yard. I just bought a heated birdbath from Gardener's Supply. Works like a charm.
I have often thought of getting one of those. Always was afraid that if I couldn't get out there to refill everyday there would be a problem. I have seen one for a deck railing and that might be easier to keep an eye on. Do you have a link or a pic of yours?
It's available with the deck rail mount. I can't find it on the Gardeners Supply website any longer. I found this one on another site that looks similar. http://www.bestnest.com/bestnest/RTProduct.asp?SKU=FI-GBD-70
what a cool bird bath

lol hahaha
My hubby doesn't want me spending any $ on warming a birdbath. I wanted to get that deck mounted one.
a heated dog dish might be cheaper Jen
in the bird and bloom magazine they show how to take a large metal coffee can and make small holes aroung the can at the first bump and put a candle inside and use a metal pie plate on top of the can and the can keeps the water from freezing I use that and it is so much cheaper since I use short candles that are left over from other usage
they are in there everyday so it does work I use warm water and it keeps it from freezing and that is the point right
That's the point.
It's definitely NOT a have to have item. A little luxury for the birds and convenience for the bird watcher. I don't think I would be able to keep up with keeping candles lit in the wind with the ice and snow. My husband and I love attracting birds to our yard. I think his ultimate luxury would be to sit for hours watching them!
well those items come when cash is available my way its not often that I have money for things like that maybe for my birthday or motherday lol if I drop enough hints
I got it as part of my husband's birthday gift. The birdbath and a weekend away from the kids for the first time hiking in nature preserves. Birdwatching, of course.
I spend money on my family and the garden. I try to save money in other places (usually by not spending on myself) in order to afford the gardening treats I love.

ya know all about that same jeans for five years same sneakers for 10 lol yup wear my clothing till it falls apart
the girls need new stuff all the time since they are growing so fast seems to never stop every month I have to replace something this month it is sneakers and trying to find spring jackets since the one they used last fall dont fit anymore and they are the same size so I am getting burned twice they are 9 and 10 lol 15 months apart they have been the same size since 2 and 3
Tee hee I peaked this morning and some of the voilas are up ^_^ Thanks redchic for the motivational picture.
It's so nice that you were able to have a memorable family trip together. I have two girls 13 months apart myself so I know what it's like with the clothes. They do dress a lot better than me. My husband had to take me out shopping to get me to buy a new winter coat since I've needed one for years and wouldn't spend the money on myself. The worst was the pair of maternity jeans I've been wearing for the last three years that I finally had to replace when the elastic waist tore off! I even cut my own hair. Sounds a bit tragic when I lay it all out there but isn't it all worth it if the birds can have a nice warm bath!!! LOL
Scicci, your girls are sweet. It looks as though it was a really good trip.
Glad that I could help Dahlia! So holding them up to the monitor of your computer really worked then??? :-p
I tried it again this morning redchic with the anemone sylvestris together with the saying: 'Lookie seeds. You see that prettiful flower. You need to germinate so you can grow up to look just like that" because the saying might be the abracadabra factor. I'll see if I can get a pic of the new babies but I usually photosharf teensyweensy things sigh.
ROTFL..... that's awesome. I'm going to try my hand at just a few seeds in the next day or two, I'll make a little pot of them that will just sit next to the monitor!! Now, if you tell me that it works with the anemone.... I'm going to bring in the whole tray and put it there!!
well you are not the only one I cut and color my own hair have done it for years, I can not justify spending that kind of money I do my own nail, manicures etc......
I buy everthing off season, one of the mothers at the girls school asked me how we could afford columbia jackets for the girls I laughed yes the are real but I paid 29.00 for each last april full price 238.00 each lol great deal to bad it was only kids sizes or I would have bought one for me
this week picked up spring coats for 9.99 each full price 69.99 so that was a good one to
Anything that helps! Your girls are cute, Mona. My granddaughters are 18 months apart, but the 3yr old is tall & the 2 yr old is very small---very different coloring. At their 2yr. checkups, the Dr. said the older 1 would be 5'10 or 11---the younger 1 only 5'1 or 2. So at least there are hand-me-downs!
same here the 10 year old is 5 feet already and will be 5'10'' to 6' like my grandmother and the younger one is short for her age and built like the women on DH side of the family the girls are 4'10'' to 5'3'' so funny how things happen and they look totally different down to straight hair and the other curly lol
Genes are funny things. Two of my nieces and a granddaughter look like me. Two of my boys, a nephew, and a great-nephew look like my dad. Funny, though, one of my DILs also looks like me.
I love a bargain.
Luckily the older will be the taller--tough on the psyche the other way around. Our eldest was told by her Doc in 7th grade--that she got the short genes. accepted it & has the best posture since she was going to make sure of every inch. All are in their 40s now & one GD is 5'2'', asecong 5'6'' & growing. the others are only aged 5 & 7 so who knows how tall they will be.
Genes ARE a funny thing......
I have 6 brothers 4 of them are over 6 feet. The other 2 are 5'8" and 5'6"..i'm 5'4". Now my Exdh is 6'1" but my 3 girls are only 5'6", 5'5", and 5'2" and both my son's are only 5'7".
Our boys' goal was to be taller than their dad. He's about 5'10". I'm almost 6'. They all made it. The shortest one is about my height. He is one of the twins. They are like night and day. One is 6'3 and about 225 lbs. His twin is about 6' and 170 lbs.
Jan -I betcha no one thinks they are twins.
Dyane- Isn't that the truth about the girls dressing better...one word "Gymboree"
After working retail 17 years I will never buy full price, I know what the buyers pay for the merchandise.
I would have a birding paradise in my yard if my budget allowed maybe someday...
One thing I can't do is cut my own hair and basically the only $ I use to treat myself, I will color my own hair though.
Jen, I have been getting ridiculous deals on the girl's clothes. Gymboree, Children's Place, Osh Kosh and Carters. Children's Place can't be making any money on my purchases. I go to the outlet store and buy the next sizes up at the end of the season clearance sale when they take an additional 50% off the clearance price plus I always have a $$ off coupon and a additional 15% off coupon. I just went last week and stocked up on winter clothes for next year. I never pay full price.
I'm chuckling at the beach and Disney photos. You can only take so many pics of snow, right? LOL!
Dyane, I have always done the same thing - styles don't change that drastically from one year to the next. And when they're little, they don't care anyways.
This is my Saturday chore - potting up my cuttings. I'm now trying to (loosely) follow planting-by-the-moon, and missed it last month. Of course, I probably should have done it two months ago, because I lost a few (generic) geraniums and coleus. I still have the heirloom-variety geraniums here, though.
The pillow is for the queen cat - Smokey. She likes to hang out with me in my craft/computer/planting/laundry/pantry room!
