Loved the hellebore photo, Shelley--unusual coloring! Karen--witch hazel grows well here in CT, & is gathered in the eastern part of the state for astringent. I'm very taken with the red ones.
Garden Photos of '09......#1
Thanks Robin, that one is part of the Mardi Gras strain of hellebores. I agree with you on the witch hazels, except it's not just the red ones, it's pretty much all of them!
I stopped at my place briefly this morning and took these two pics.
Hellebore micha, poor thing has been trying to bloom for a couple of weeks now.
What ever floats your boat Karen
If it isnt broke dont fix it. lol
I took some geranium cuttings... not sure if they are dead... or dormant like the momma plants.. I was going to take them out of the pots... didn't get to it... they look gangly but still green growth here and there... I have been just giving them a touch of water every two weeks or so
So, I just realized that there's two threads that are a continuation of the Garden photos 48 thread. There's this one, which just started over the numbers for the new year. And Garden photos 49 http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/945622/ , which I didn't know existed when I made this new thread. So do you all actually want to have two different branches off of the same thread going or no? These threads could easily be merged back together now or maybe when they're getting long and needing to be started over.

well i like the fact we have one starting with number 1 for 2009.
I second that motion, Bill!
Karen
So, Bill or Karen..... Since both of you are on the other thread as well...... would one of you mind asking the other thread to join us again?? That would be sooooo nice!

Ok, Shelly, I posted an invite to the ones over at the other thread with a link.
Karen
Thanks Karen! Always knew that you were a sharp one! :-p
great pics RC
thanks Jo Ann. Flower's a little tattered... but it's hope!
Allison that 'Aphrodite' is very nice. I like the subtle colors and the fine red edge outline.
RC those are very cheerful blooms. Pansies and violas look so dainty but are so tough. A welcome sight for sure. I don't know what the pieris is up to, maybe telling us we can have an early spring, okay that works for me.
I am starting some of both again this spring I am not waiting to see if any from last year make it I just love penny orchid viola lovely color and blooms all summer
and my daughter made me order the large pansy that look like little old men with mustache and beards or so she says I thought that was so funny.
Well if you have to have ice, having something like a walking stick for it to wrap around isn't too bad at all. That is so cool the way it twists and turns. Another one of those "I really need one of those" plants. It's a long list I'm afraid. That 'Aphrodite' is just spring in a blossom with those fresh pastel colors and your rhodie looks very similar to his northern cousins here. Brrr.
Mona your pics are nice with that bright blue sky, but I am also so sick of winter. Even just a picture of snow now makes ya want to groan. Go away! I just wish it would go away now.
Thats ALL the snow you have??
'Lookie little viola seeds (holding tray up to the monitor). You see that prettiful flower that redchic has. You need to germinate so you can grow up to look just like that".
hahaah havent even started my pansies yet lol will have to look into that one hahhaha
Shelly, that backlit pansy pic would be great on the backlit thread. Very nice! Love the shot of the one with the view behind it as well.
Pat, do you have room at your place for all the stuff on your list. I have to admit there are a lot of things I would love to have in the tree and shrub catagory, but I only have so much space. I would have to remove some of the existing native trees, and I don't think that would be such a good thing to do. A few I would like to remove if I get the money, as they are not pretty at all, but most I want to leave.
Karen
Lol, Dahlia... too funny. You'll have to let me know if that method expedites the seeds. If that's the case, the seed tray can just have my spot at the computer!!
Thanks Karen, I'll do that.... just for you!
Ngam, I agree! I was very surpised to find that little plant up there flowering. Definitley tough ones they are.
Onewish, I love the frozen, contorted, plants. It looks way to cold and definitely too much snow.
Great pics, Scicci!
thank you RC... and my street is nasty... even though the salt truck came by again last night... just not cutting it
Yuk, Onewish. I sure hope that you all unthaw soon. Not fun at all. Spring oh spring!!! Now, in the dead of summer when we're all thinking that we are so looking forward to the cooler weather, we need to remember what the cooler weather really felt like!
