Coffee Break: Odd News, Helpful Info & Laughs for 2009 Pt 2
Does anyone have trilliums? I want to try them again when I put in the water feature.
Oh Debi that is just lovely. That's another plant I think I should try every year and never do get any. Are they easy to grow?
Yes, they need a little moist shade, they take awhile to get established, I started with bareroots a few years ago, and they are still very small clumps. They remind me of my mom, she used to talk about them when I was little. They are gorgeous driving along the NYS thruway in the woods along the side of the road.
This is a bit off beat but what the heck.
DD has a friend who is a mortitian and when there is a big funeral and there is an overflow of flowers they get sent to nursing homes.
We get the overflow and take the arrangements apart and make as many boquets for the house as we can.
DD#3 is comming over for dinner so she will get one to take home.
I never saw the filming of RR, Pat. I knew it would be too crowded, & the photos in our weekly paper showed that was so---I have some trilliums my DS gave me 2 years ago--he dug them up from his yard, & I never thought they would take, but they did--no flowers last year, but the plants looked healthy. My DS is doing better, Patti---he works on his property constantly, & I'm sure this hernia was from a bluestone patio he put in last summer. My DIL had to have dental surgery the day after his op, & she's in worse pain---I've been watching the GKids, trying to help out.
Debi maybe I can try them if DH ever digs out the low area and makes his pond. After the last two summers with drought I would be afraid that where there is nice shade would be too dry for them right now. Pretty wild one Sherrie. You are lucky to have them around your house naturally. I bet there might be some out in the woods in back of my house where it is wetter soil most of the time. I will have remember to take a look.
Robin I saw an add for RR this morning and thought of you. Even if you didn't go to see it when they filmed, will be fun to watch the movie. I wonder if it will be any good? It sure sounds like you all have your hands full down there. I hope everyone gets through their medical treatments just fine and you can get some well deserved rest too.
nice trillium
Ok Bill and everyone. Went to the movies with DH. Grand Torino. Scale of
1-10, I give it a 7. Husband likes action/adventure/comedy. I am a sci fi/horror flicker. We were standing in line and I said you should go that way and I should go to Underground the horror flick.
We are all set for another 10-20 years :-)
ooooo very luvly trilliums. Thanks. I tried some bare roots awhile back but of course it was too dry for them. I can't wait to try them again.
get off my lawn
I'm a HUGE Clint fan. I can't wait to see it.
toad heads and a lot of other names - i went with my in-laws and they heard "dialog" that they had not heard in 20 years.
I'm going tomorrow...no spoilers please!
Nice bouquets. I like the idea of sending the extra flowers to nursing homes or hospitals instead of to the landfill right away. Nice that they are enjoyed and appreciated.
Happy Chinese New Year everyone! The year of the ox I think.
Glad & Lily co-op here....

Bought alot last year from this same seller...great deals!!!
can you find if I can be on this being in canada???????
okie dockley
Sherrie - love that shade of trillium! We have some around our NH woods and a couple have come up around our back patio near the woods. Most are red or white. They are so lovely!!
Marilyn - glad to hear that sick bay is improving with DS and DDIL. I'll bet you'll be tired after the dear grands have gone home!! LOL
JoAnn - pretty flowers! Ditto Pat......glad they send them to nursing homes, etc. as well. It always makes me sad to see beautiful flowers wilting in the sun on the graves.
this spring I have to get off my duff and walk in my woods to see what is out there
last spring I found a huge patch of solomon seal about thirty feet across and also two large patches of dog tooth lilies now I have to go a little farther into the wood and look for trillium since I love it so much
I, too, love dog tooth lilies--found some at DS's house last spring--may have him dig a few for me. I was sitting again today because my DIL ended up in the ER with an abcessed tooth--the Dr. drained it, but she went to bed---has been in agony since Fri. morn---my 9 month old GS, Grant, is starting to take steps---I was after him all day!
Why do toothaches always happen on the weekend? I think it must be an axiom! Glad she finally got it treated. I used to have a friend that lived up your way, right on the river, and she had dogtooth lillies and trillium growing wild everywhere. Same when I lived on the Willington/Ashford line. Spelling edit

Marilyn - sorry to hear about DDIL's tooth agony....No Fun!! What a good Grammy you are!! Bet you'll sleep tonight!
glad you like the lily
What river, Phoebe? I'm right above the Naugatuck---when we could let our dogs roam on this hill, my lab-giant schnauzer mix went swimming all summer with the neighbor's pooch.
Robin--don't remember for sure--their deck literally extended out over the river--amazing! They lived in Riverton(I think) - near Hitchcock Furniture, where my sister used to work as a decorator. I still can't believe they went out of business! :-(
Has anyone heard from Victor lately?

Happy Anniversary Dahlia!
Thanks everso Dave47. I really appreciate getting the opportunity to live in your zone 6/7 gardens ^_^
I wish I was in zone 7 right about now. But I guess I can't haggle with a zone 3 person.
By the way, I saw that you really get around! Four regional threads?!
Yupper I'm very thankfully adopted ^_^ I'm learning tons from all the regional forums. I'm HUGE on the specialized plant forums too of course but it's really great to learn from the peoples that actually grow the stuff. Like you guys/gals. I so learn so much on NE Forum and I'm very thankful to be welcomed here.
