Coffee Break: Odd News, Helpful Info & Laughs for 2009 Pt 2

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Very good info wren. Oh and don't forget that also they are in the path of hurricanes. Note to all: hurricanes are not good.

Snakes, alligators, cockroaches, sharks and/or jelly fish. Those were the days.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

hurricanes are just wind right so if you build right no problem we get storms that break huge trees and rip off roofs here to except when the roof goes you freeze, so solid concrete wall two feet thick will take care of that hahahhaha tornados and storms I was raised on the east coast man the waves get up to 9 stories high hahahah as long as it hot the next day im ok

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes please keep the snirt, I'd just like some clean snow.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hurricanes are winds but they can create other disasters. Like the one that ripped up through WV, it caused the Ohio River to literally wash whole houses down stream.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I am over 10 miles inland, if a hurricane comes in a the right angle and pushes the water in(called a Surge) then the water would be over 8 feet at my house. The keys are just a little above sea level. More people die because of the Surge that the wind.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I am very happy hear at 3700+ feet on the east side of the big rocks thank you very much.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

my parents home was inland about 1 mile with a 40 foot cliff at the beach one march they awoke to find 3 feet of salt water outside man that was scary the fishermen commented that the way must have been at least 70 feet high to reach that far but that was before my time and I think they call that a sunami now lol hahahah most people do not know that the east coast has been it one time and the west coast twice with sunamis

Dahlia - congrats on your anniversary!! I've really enjoyed your posts! Glad you found us!

No hurricane talk, please. LOL News of the day from Fla.......there's an 8 foot alligator stuck in a storm drain in a busy section of Cape Coral. They think he was walking down the street (??!!!) and slipped into the storm drain through an open manhole. WHAT?????? What kind of place do I live in where 8 foot gators can pass me on the street while I'm shopping????!!! They've lowered a stinky mass of cow lung on a big hook down into the drain to lure him out. WHAT???!!

Gators like rotten meat.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Maybe he was trying to head north to the NYC to visit his pals in that great sewer, so well known in urban mythology.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Ahhhh I bet that's it. A gater reunion.

He would have plenty to eat! Tubliflex Worms!

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

well I dont know about mythology since they found one years ago in the sewers in halifax nova scotia he was twelve feet long he escaped or someone let him loose and that is where he went

If you look at the population of NY im sure a few have ended up in the sewers hahahhahahah

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

they just took two 3 ft'rs out of some guy's house here last week and last year a couple where found in ponds

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Where are they coming from? I mean really. Pet stores?

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

They are illegal to sell as pets here...but I'm sure they make their way here anyway

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Some maybe Caymans, which can be bought, or some fools may have picked up the cute little baby gator they found down here in Florida and took it home as a pet. They do not make good pets!!!!!!

I would not be able to afford to feed one. Aquarium is bad enough.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Chicken.

A gator could not live in a sewer. They must have sun and heat.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

wild animals never make good pets lol cute things grow into man eaters hahah

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

A gator has a brain the size of a walnut. Not much room in there for thoughts other than
"if it moves eat it!!!!"

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

hahahhaha and they are all teeth and tail hahah

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes I need to call it a night

Everyone have a good night.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

You, too, Wren.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

good night

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Hello and goodnight.

If I remember correctly the highest point on Key West is 16 feet above sea level. It is amazing that life as we know it, exists there.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Gator update. They caught the gator, wrapped his mouth with tape and pulled him out of the manhole. (video of it all on the evening news). He was over 8 feet and almost 300 pounds. They will take him to someplace that keeps gators for a tourist attraction (ugh!) and if he isn't wanted, he will be euthanized. He was traveling between canals when he slipped into the manhole. Hmmmmm.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

This gator update was brought to you by The Traveler's Insurance Co. Because you never know what can jump up and bite you.
