Coffee Break: Odd News, Helpful Info & Laughs for 2009 Pt 2

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

That's the spirit. LOL
Only a gardener would look at it as an opportunity to try something new.

Toast?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Exactamundo Jan23. Be sure to post your new additions wren.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Toast (slang): A person or thing that is doomed, in trouble, or unworthy of further consideration.

I take it as "Fried" like heres your brain and heres your brain on drugs. You know the commercial with the egg.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Well down here "Fried" is what happens to the plants in the summer time!!!LOL

I did go out into the green house and everything looks great, The high/low temp. says that it stayed in the 30's out there. Even the couple of tropicals that I have out there look good. As I have over 200 epiphyllums and almost 30 Christmas cactus. That would have been a major hit.

I went out on the porch and pointed and clicked. This is not fried its froze. What a waste.

dahlianut, I am honored that you feel it worth sharing. Please do. Anything I do that is worthwhile I give credit to a higher source then myself.

chuck - very nice - what mountain was that?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks Chuck.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Lovely to hear from you Chuck. Wonderful poem. Also a beautiful picture.
I have ordered that new echie Pink Poodle and cannot wait to get my little garden soiled hands on it this spring. Hope it lives up to the hype.
I hope all those down Florida way are able to protect their plants from the cold temps. I have to admit however, it will be hard to feel too badly for you having to find coats because it is 25 or 30 degrees this weekend when we dip into single digits again and a foot and a half of snow on the ground. Seriously though, the cold temps can be very bad economically to a lot of farmers and all those they support including my glass of OJ every am, so I really hope the temps stay more moderate and all is well for you down there.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Looking forward to the 'Pink Poodle' picks. Its unlikely I will get blooms this summer but ya just never know.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

So glad to hear from you, Chuck! Your reflections are beautiful and have lovely images.....clearly no reason to keep YOUR mouth shut!! What have you been up to? Hello to Marilyn!

Wren - hope your plants made it through. It looks like we were lucky. Hank covered the things I was worried about and all seems well here. We're covering things again tonight even though it is supposed to go down to 38 only.

Louise most of my favorite plants will be fine. But I think it has lasted to long.

Thomaston, CT

My DS is driving me nuts! Told me Sun. he was being operated on yesterday--hernia--his 2nd op--blamed it on my side of the family! Stayed at the farm about 4 hours yesterday watching him & the 3 kids--Grant napped most of the time--son was out of it most of the time---so why am I so exhausted? Then the call comes this evening---can we drop the girls off at 8 tomorrow? I'm going to bed now!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

That's BIG to have a local source.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

yes since I spend about 150 in shipping every year since I have gone as far as ordered from england and other places in europe to find certain plants

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I have a good center near by too but getting out the last couple of years has been very difficult. Congrats to you for finding a good source nearby.
Pixie I just love that DL on Anita's B-Day thread you posted. Do you have a name? Sorry if you already told everyone but it is a beauty.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I now have white house perennial for hostas and day lilies and gremmel garden center but both are about an hour away kinda in the same direction will have to have a day out of hunting for the best new and interesting perennial

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh thank-you. I like the shape and the color. Went searching for it and found it at my local DL farm. Who knew? Now I will add it to my list, and when ever I can get away for a day you know I will snag it. I do love having a reason to go there. Here is their site: http://www.tranquil-lake.com/catalog/Color/Lavender.htm
Here is a pic from one of my visits there. I have posted it before but colors are nice right now. Thanks again.

Well Is should not of gone to that website Pat!
'DARK ELF' caught my eye and right above it is 'DARIUS' which would be stunning growing beside it! 'Darius' would be just a few inches taller and a slight bit larger flower but both blooming mid-season. Perfect! Oh, and the price is right!!! I can see i'm talking myself right into this....

They are very nice people, also have small but good selection of perennials and grasses.
You have to have a list of DLs you want to see or you would go nuts. One day is not enough time to look at all of them and it is very easy to get overwhelmed. I look forward to my DL day out every year now.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

that is one beautifull daylily wow

Thomaston, CT

Nice DLs ---to change the subj.---if you've been watching the previews for Revolutionary Road, all the train scenes were filmed in my town---the station hasn't been used for years, except for tourist trains in the summer, & a Santa train in Dec. But it had that 50's look they wanted.

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

cool

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

very cool.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

What a great DL site, Pat. Like Celeste, it's terribly tempting! Quite a selection with really good prices. Uh Oh.

Celeste - you know you've got to have those companion DLs!!! They are both really pretty!

Marilyn - I hope your son is better very soon. Hank had that surgery a couple of years ago....now he has to take care to limit his heavy lifting. How cool to have had Rev. Road filmed in your town! I think the movie is showing here soon.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

OOOOOOOhhhhhh Patti, I'm in trouble with that website.....love how they breakdown to make it easier to search...actually found reblooming fragrant ones!!!! LOVE 'audacity plus' and 'chorus line'

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Very cool Robin, did you get to see any of the filming? They are filming a lot of movies and tv shows in Ma and around all of New England now because of all the breaks they give them. Now I will have to look for that old station.
I have never ordered from them by mail. When you go there to purchase a DL they grab a shovel and wagon, go out to the field and dig up a fan for you. They have lots of workshops and discussions throughout the season. I would like to attend a few some day when my time is not so restricted.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I made up some stamps with my photos on zazzle if anyone wants to check them out

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)
