So now we know were fabricholics..what projects are you working on...same, different?

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I still need to get started on the quillow for Lisa's boss! Just can't get into it. My toes are still running, and they kept me awake last night, throbbing. Not realy pain, just achey.
I can't decide on a pattern that will be quick to make, either! Any suggestions?

Glenview, IL

Hiya Sally! Good to see you have come to terms...lol.

Well, I did go to JoAnns today...Well they have not switched over to new material as of yet.
However, I did get a piece of fur material...Like what you would make a teddy bear out of.
Which i have this fantastic idea...mind you it is just in idea mode. lol, could remain that way for years!
But I can also use the material for future Santas.

Woohoo, I algot an acrylic ruler so i can now practice with rotary cutters...My goodness a person can go ballistic in the quilters isle.
Which, not sure how I had great restrain. ROFLOL, I think that comes from being very ignorant as to what I need.
You know what I really wanted to buy?
One of those tiny irons...LOL of all crazy things to want. even funnier, the thing cost 29 smackers.Maaan! lol on my dream list it goes.

Anyway, I also go some marking pencils, those basting pins, long pins with pretty color heads.
So that was my adventure at JoAnns.

Now to decide something simple to start.
Woohoo...

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Girliem you're on your way!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Well, I have added more descrition and meeting hours at the top!
I am going to take a pain pill, and go to bed.
Dentist was nice today! But when are they? I have to go back in month for a crown on my molar.
Good night all

ROTFL, LK. Love the part about 'or tell us where the sales are'!

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Maybe its time for me to make those flannel sleep pants for my son, with the fabric I got on clearance after Last winter.
I have four yards of this pastel plaid that I love--for one dollar a yard, I have never decided what I really want from it! Plaid seemed to go out of style the day I bought it. And I'm getting too lazy to either make OR wear a shirt that I have to BUTTON. LOL It's a pullover world
Then there is the fabulous brown velvet XXL size top I got at Old Navy on clearance just for the beautiful fabric to make a pillow.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I"m a recovering fabricholic! I still have bolts in my closet and can not buy anymore fabrics until I make something with the fabrics I have. So, if you need to take some off my hands....

I make curtains, just the plain panels with linings, not the fancy ones. I also make rounder for those round tables and square toppers. I also re-upholster funrnitures but only do the pieces if I am desperate!

2 years ago, I was at this decorating store and they were having a clearance of their fall fabrics in May. They had bought too much fabrics and they needed to get rid of them. I saw these beautiful stripes and they look like silk, but they were thicker fabrics, there was about 10 yards on the bolt for $10 but the key is you have to buy the whole bolt, they won't cut it. So I was looking for another fabric to coordinate with the stripes and I saw this humongous bolt of beautiful fabric. It was $40, there were 39 yards on the bolt! I kept coming back and looking at it and trying to decide what the heck I would make with 39 yards of fabrics. That was crazy, right? And there was a lady standing next to me looking at the same bolt of fabrics. So I asked her if she wanted to split the bolt with me. We hauled it inside and they cut the bolt into 19 and 20 yds and we each paid $20 for the big bolt. I made curtains with mine. I think the panel took about 7 yards? Now what am I going to do with the rest?? BTW, I used the stripes for lining the back of the curtains and the remaining fabrics I lined the dining room chairs.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Yeah but for 20 bucks for the project you can affordto just throw away the rest---but we never do.

Oh yeah, my last real project was 4 bedroom curtain things- that was fun last winter ,found cheap faux microsuede kind of, had to make an emergency run to another JoAnnes for the last couple yards - whooo-ee

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I used to go to JoAnn's every week but I haven't seen pretty fabrics in a while. I remembered one summer, I saw some fabrics that looked just like Lily Pulitzer prints and I bought a bunch. Wished I had bought more. Never saw them again after that summer. However, they do have some cute cotton fabrics for pajama pants!

You know what I do for throw pillows on the couch? I saw those cool cable knit looking pillow covers at Pottery Barn. I went to Goodwill and bought cable knit sweaters for $3 a pop and cut them out for pillow cover.

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

LOL ladies I am going to put a big damper on your little parties.

I found out how to fix us.
Well, I can't fix the 'keep buying more' part, but I just figured out how to fix the 'It sits around for years part' lol.

First, go to your closet.
Second, spend three days cleaning it out. I mean really, how long are you going to keep that expired face cream and those jeans that are two sizes too small but you are sure will fit again someday just as soon as you buy a treadmill and start starving yourself and running 40 miles a day????

Next, if you don't recognize it, as in, 'gee wizz, where did that come from? I never knew I had that? Open the back door, throw out on patio. (procrastinate further, by telling yourself you will load up all that junk 'later')

Finally, if you are lucky and do not get distracted by a fabric sale flier, you should get to the bottom and find your trusty 1 ton sewing machine.

Last, haul machine to table and plug in.

There ya go!
The first step in recovery is to plug in your sewing machine!
Of course, for me, just thinking of all that work makes me second guess anymore fabric sales...
Besides after a few years, closet gets so full of stacked fabric that when you open the door, you really should have an ambulance on stand-b, as it all falls out on your head and you could very well suffocate. Not to mention that all that dry fabric is a sure fire hazard, right? Or at the very least a mouse condo. So then you end up avoiding the closet altogether and have to find a new 'stashing spot'. And then what if you really DO need the ancient face cream?!

Anyway, setting out the ol machine, is a mental trick that just might work on me, and maybe I WILL even sew something if it were in sight.

I'm gonna do it!

Next week LOLOLOL !!

Victoria Harbour, ON

The once a year 75% off sale is on in Midland Fabricland tomorrow..should I be going 'yes' but not going to fight the crowds..just not worth it..standing in line for an hour or so to get material cut is just not my thing...

Decided though on making the jacket with birds as shown here as I've already made a few recycled jean projects..

Next week when the sales are over I'll go in search of just the right material for me..not that I don't have a zillion other projects just sitting on my craft tables in the studio..guess always room for 1 more...

Frillilily- you cracked me up!
One quilting hangup I have is not knowing which fabric is prewashed and which isn't, so thinking if I mix the two I;'ll be in trouble.
Hubby just had to buy a Pingpong table last year- you'd think I'd sew my head off with such a nice cutting table LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty those patterns are nice. Where do you get your jeans, or denim to work with? I know a lot of ya go to thrift stores and such. I also love the stained glass project you did, thet is really pretty. I don't have that big of stash as most of you do, but I keep all my fabrics inthose big tubs. I just bought a few more from wal mart in read and green. They had them for like $6.00 a piece after Christmas. They are outside int he shed, and when I need something I just got outside for a few hours and start looking. If I don't have it, then I go shopping.
Wow, how can anyone pass up any sale for $1.00 per yard.
I bought a huge roll of blue upholsery fabric years ago and a yard sale for like $5.00. I still have it in the shed, and have no clue what to do with it. But someday, maybe I will need it!

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

wow I think you are the worse sufferer on this thread.
You may need professional help.

First you say you do not have large stashes (denial...)
Then you proceed with how you hide your stash in the shed, so hubby will not notice, and
lastly you have to spend countless hours looking to find the things you NEED in all that junk

LOLOLO!

No one get close to her, I am sure this is catching.................!

Linda Kay, people just give me jeans..a few years ago I made jackets that had pine trees, moose, fishermen etc. and I think half the world was giving me them...also did one (must go in my closet and see if it's still there, with quilt blocks on the back..never do I wear it that I don't get stopped, part was made with a fleece sweater ..

Thanks, am hoping after the blizzard I travelled in this a.m. that I will head out first to Fabricland - need about 14 meters (yards) of curtain material to make a topping for over the bed which includes being part of window dressing if they still have their $24.99 a meter material on for $3.00....should have bought it last week when I saw it but didn't, watch it not be there then home and into my jammies until Monday...lol

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

Yes, I have been laying in my jammies too.
Laying until spring. Just waiting for another day. So another day will go by, me still in my jammies. Can NOT wait for spring.
Shoot, even 30F would be like spring right now...
But I have been sitting on a heat pad, keeping my hiney warm at least --til spring.

edited to say, I confess I can't scarce sew a lick.
A straight line and that is about it- if I am lucky it will be straight lol
I just like the fabric...I have big dreams...

Oh, someone help me!

Lots of simple patterns and projects out there that you simply need to know how to sew a straight line...

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Lily, You're my kinda gal! I think you must know me! If I can't find what I'm looking for, like my lip edged ruler, I go buy another one! Someday I'll find the other one, maybe when I move my bed!

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Lily, the main thing in sewing, even a straight line, is to oil and clean your machine!

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

Move it?
Shoot, maybe if you just LOOKED under it.
No telling what all is crammed under mine...
better not look... lol

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I can't get on my knees to look under it! I think that's where my card table is, but I'm not sure!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Frillylily, just cut some of your fabrics into square and make a rag quilt, so easy to do. All straight lines, then just snip the edges...

Oh, yes I found out oil, cleaning, and using right needle size really helps alot.
So does keeping manual in right hand,

and doesn't hurt to plug it in once in a while too... :)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

http://quilting.about.com/od/quiltpatternsprojects/ss/rag_quilt.htm

Here is a link to make a rag quilt. So pretty, and sew easy!!!

LK

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

That's it!
I need directions for 'sewing' with fabrics that don't require a stitch of thread.
Just cutting and tying together. lol no need to clean out closet, or oil, or plug anything in!

I once made a dress for a teddy bear by hot gluing all together. Turned out real nice, the fabric was so pretty and the lace too. nice little floral pattern...

too bad it wasn't water proof :(

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

There is that new fabric glue out there, that Ka Boom guys advertises, or is he the Oxy Clean guy ? Oh he is both isn't he?

Victoria Harbour, ON

we should all take photo's of what's under our beds...in one room 3 knitting machines...in the spare roof a 3 1/2 ft. stained glass blue heron and in my roof, well try to keep it simple...craft books to look over at night..lol you'd almost think I don't have room downstairs in that craft studio as I seem to grow and need more space..

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh Betty if that stained glass window goes a missing, you might want to head to Florida to find it. Some how I see Marion sneaking in Canada, lol........................

Victoria Harbour, ON

Cindry, please tell her to take the goodies under the bed first please...

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

There is only 1 blanket under our bed, but the spare bedroom somtimes get full of my stuff, and then when my mom comes to stay I have to clean it up :(

Victoria Harbour, ON

thank God for company

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

LOL, ^_^

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

My friend passed along to me about three years worth of quilt magazines. I pared that down to about a hundred forty seven quilts that I'll never make...
But I am psyched about that rag quilt technique- Thanks!

"and doesn't hurt to plug it in once in a while too..."

ROTRLMBO!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Come on, you can do it! Get out your machines, dust them off, plug them, get them oile and a new needle, and start sewing pieces together. Show and tell is next week Friday! LOL

LK

springfield area, MO(Zone 5b)

OH COOOME ON!
that is too soon!

I couldn't possibly have mine plugged in by next Friday!

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

You know the knitting term, knit 1, perl 2? Well, I have a new one; it's called sew 1, rip 2! That is the way my afternoon has gone.
This is why I like just collecting fabric. When I sew I get into trouble.
However (doing the happy dance) they finally repaired my sewing machine and it works just fine. Saves me buying a new one right now and I can get on with the T-shirt quilts.

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

They finally repaired your machine? The one that kept breaking the thread? What was the problem after all?
