Carol, what a beautiful photo..that's one you should have framed, so pretty..when you are out in that acreage of yours (I'm still in awe of your gardens-garden room after garden room) this summer in the heat you can look at the photo and remind yourself to sit, get a book out, glass of lemonade and just enjoy!
I've got everything organized now for my project..smelling that raisin bread..omg if it tastes as good as is smells I'm in business...Carol it's almost non fail IF you purchase a good one..mine also kneeds bread for rolls, cinnamon buns, pizza crust, pie , sweetbread etc.
I had it in the laundry room because I would wake up each morning to a fresh loaf of bread and guess who was eating it with loads of butter..me/me/me..
Won't put it so far, just with the cold and being inside making homemade soup thought I'd take it out again...best you pick one up if you like fresh bread...another good thing is if you are snowed in, as long as you have flour and bread machine yeast (can use the other but I'm not fond of it) salt, sugar,butter..your off to the races, never without..
Just put a load of wash in, trying to decide if I will wait till almost late aft. to do deck and yard or if it's best to get it over....deciding to go do it is half the work isn't it?
Crissy am envying you being able to work in your garden today...best you stay home and get ontop of things..lol..
Am thinking spring as well, bought a slab of wood and am thinking of making some birds..some bluejays /woodpeckers and robins...they don't take up a lot of food...lol
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today #79 visit with friends...
Carol, wish we lived closer, be sending you a raisin bread...will look to see if I've enough flour to do another and send it over to Bernice and Cliff for supper....
Would imagine you can pick how you like your crust, light, medium or dark..white bread was med. and raisin dark..would imagine all machines on the market will let you do it as well..3 1/2 hrs. from start to finish..timer also incase I want to start it at 3am..just in time for breakfast..lol
Betty, the picture is a little fuzzy, but it looks like a little gator measuring spoon. How cute is that!
And that raisin bread looks really yummy! Oh boy, to wake up to that smell filling your house! Mmmmm
LK
Stacey, Niece, methinks you've got your characters wrong on CSI! Marg plays Sarah, the darkhaired one! The redheaded one is Katherine. Sarah is the one Grissom went away with. I love it! He's soooo romantic! I love when he quotes poetry to her! He reminds me of my sweetie, except he doesn't quote poetry!
got to find me that episode...
LindaKay, yes it is a gator and the body is round with measurements, you fill him up to what you needs..coooolll...
Ok at the door ready to take on the world, at least the snow if nothing else..if I don't freeze..lol..I'll take a few photo's of how pretty..at least the scenery is soothing..
Off I go..
Hello! I feel like a stranger. Just a quick stop in. Have the day off and trying to get a few things done. Read thru the thread real fast. So I missed lots.
Work has been busy. We are getting ready for inventory. Setting up for Valentine's Day. Spring flowers are arriving already. Price changes.
Freezing temps. icy roads. Snow. The same a lot of you are getting. But I do think Judy is getting more snow then us. A lot of it is missing us.
Judy did run me down on another thread and I realized I missed this one.
I've been checking out winter sowing. Will try that. Betty that might be something for you to try. Nothing in the house with that.
Good to read all the chatting. Most of it sounded pretty upbeat and busy. Need to go and find something for supper. We had homemade vegie soup for lunch. What I had in the freezer. Was so good!
Betty..that bread looks fabulous..so high and light.
Well done!
Yup..more snow fell ..had to go out and clean the car off again..and shovel the walk.
Hi Vicki,
Nice to have you drop in and say hi.
Isn't homeade soup the best!..I had some from the freezer for my lunch too.
Yes Carol. While I was eating it I thought of how terrible it was from the can and how much I use to like that! LOL
That bread looks edible right through the computer! YUM!
Wow, that's a lot of snow. If I got snow like that down here, I would want it to stop there.
Hi Vicki, waving from here ~ ~ ~
Betty, seeing the picture of the shed...did you ever finish your sign with "how far" to everyones houses? I remember you working so hard on that, and the shed...which turned out beautiful. I would love to see it one day.
Funny thing about the weather here. We were under a weather alert until 4:00 pm. we had nothing fall! At 4:00 p.m. it started snowing big fat fluffy flakes...and still is. Good thing there is no school tomorrow! My van is down and they would have to walk.
The bread looks wonderful. We had a chat on "how was your day" about being yeast impaired...which I am. LOL All these breads sound and look so good.
I have a couple chicken breasts in the basement freezer, think I will try some soup tomorrow. Maybe with a side of cornbread.

Here I thought I was going to finally get some crafting done but not...couch, rag quilt and hot chocolate ran out..a few calls checking out to see if I needed anything..
Finally stopped snowing at least for now..tomorrow might be another day..lol
Vicki, how nice to see you post...you are always so busy..winter sowing? is that where you cast seeds on the snow? not sure how it works...be interested in it though..
Sounds as though a lot of us are thinking 'soup'
Carol, did you manage to keep up with the snow? Haven't listened to the weather update today, thought I'd leave it till the morning..
Debbie, hope it's nothing major with the vehicle..not a time to be without...is it a school holiday tomorrow? As for the signs Debbie, nope not finished still have about 20 cut...closer to spring I'll get back at them..amazing how many ask me about the signs..I've more work to the DG Friendship garden, it was late fall and I did get some done but come spring, I'm right back at it...
When I had my manual out the other day checking to see about the block heater as I call it, I should have checked the extended warrantee..you know how they give you roadside assistance with your vehicle, is it only for the first year or is it as long as the warrantee lasts? best check that out...
Know it's early but think I'll get the animals fed, Sailor out, she does love that new pathway I've shovelled..turn down the heat and head to bed...
Can't say I didn't get plenty of rest this weekend..
Stacey was it on for 2 hrs...
Darlene just called and she said she watched it for an hour, when I told her I thought it was 2 she said perhaps that is why some of the beginning didn't make sense to her..thanks for the link..
Roads ok. for you to get to work in the morning?
No-it was an hour only....
And they should be-we got a few flurries today and will get a few tomorrow and a few on Tues, then we are supposed to have sun for Wed & Thur-we'll see-it seems to change ALL THE TIME;)LOL
Drats, Sharon just msn'd me...Rhonda ran away again..what in the world do you do in situations like this...beyond me..
Night/night
You just be careful..oops I led Darlene astray then..
Good Lord willing, we'll gab tomorrow!
Sleep tight Betty-I won't be on in the am for the next couple days-have to site supervise again for my auto auction-have to be to work by 5:30 and there by 6:30-so busy morning!!
Betty, we had to order a fan for the radiator. Imagine as cold as it is...and having to get a fan so it doesn't "over heat". It wont be in until Tuesday!
The kids have off for Martin Luther King Birthday/Holiday. All banks, gov. offices, post office and such are closed also.
You get in bed, get warm and feel better soon. I am sure you got this from your office worker who hasn't been feeling well.
Sweet dreams,
Debbie
Stacey, you're right, I had it wrong all this time! Bur He did go away with Sara. That's what I wanted to happen!
Betty, Which model of bread machine do you have? I've had a bread machine on my 'want' list for a long long time.... but if I get one, I want the timer and the kneader and all! LOL! with the gang we have here.... I am sure we could save alot of money and have a constant supply of fresh bread in the house :) Those loaves look so yummy! Maybe I'll make a 15 bean soup this week....hmmm.
Any update on Jesse?
This is to all of you on this Thread!
This, Part #79 started on Wednesday, Jan. 14th. Here it is--Sunday, Jan 18th. --FOUR days later--and there have now been 183 Posts.....full of chit-chat that I find nothing in common with. This goes on and on....ad infinitum! By the tomorrow, or the next day--Betty will have moved this on to "the next "room"....#80. It just becomes overwhelming!
I cannot keep up with all this idle talk and chat that I find nothing in common with. It is occupying my time to the extent where I no longer wish to spend the time doing so. There are some of you I really respect and care about--as human beings on he cybernet--and there are some of you I have NO such feelings about at all and have nothing in common with. We walk to totally different drummers.....
We are just different people with different life-values, morals and of different upbringings.
Those of you that have expressed your opinions toward me, and attacked me in the only way you knew how, have really opened my eyes to what kind of people you are and what values you live by. They are NOT my values!
As a result--I have chosen to distance myself from this Group and not waste any more time trying to keep up with all the "clutter" and am going to do THE CLICK of "Unwatch this Thread" as of tonight. Good Bye!!!!!!
Oh, I will "lurk"--but you will never know it! Just my "separation anxiety" to get it over with.....to see all the angst and all the comments......and the "gossip"....
Should be quite entertaining!
To those of you that may ask WHY? There is NO "WHY".....It is just a choice I have made. I feel it is time to move on to better things on DG and different people that I share more interest in common with.
It has been nice, most of the time, to be here with you! Best to you all-especially Betty.
I now will join the ranks of the "dropped out ones" who just could not deal with all this--such as it has evolved to be, from the original premise of this Post...OH!...80 Chapters ago!
Betty--WHEN I do your Santa--I will still post it here.....I will! Or--send it to you via e-mail.
Best to you all, Gita
Gita, we will miss you, I don't know you well but I have enjoyed chatting with you....take care and drop in and say hello occasionally.....you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Will look forward to seeing your Santa when you decide to do it.
Wishing you the best,
Trisha
Gita, I hope it wasnt me that was chattering too much? I like this thread, and havent seen any gossip or ill will on it (which is the exact reason why I came here!) hopefully it will continue to be gossip free and no mean or nasty things are said .... if so, then I too would need to leave.
{{Hugs}}
AnjL
Anjl-L,
Go read part #73 of this Thread and see......about half way down.....
Gita, I don't post much but I lurk alot and I love you all on this thread. It has been a very good enfueance for me accept for the bickering which is all uncalled for on any ones behalf. I don't read everything in its entirety just kind of skip arround but if you will tell me what you are interested in I will be glad to chat with you. I haven't realy caught anything that you are interested in. If you decide to leave that is your choice but will miss you. HUGS BEV
Hello All; I am a 'beginner' gardener. My husband (the experienced gardener) 'made' me cut my sweet basil down today. I'm really nervous b'c it was beautiful until Gustav hit, and my favorite plant this year. Should I have done this?
I dont know about sweet basil, but am sure someone here will know :)
What other plants are you growing?
Wow - Where to start? We are in 8B and had a pool built June '07. So 2008 was "My Year" to get involved in my first gardening experience. My husband, however has a lot of experience. I had a GREAT time last year filling up almost all the empty space. We have a ways to go. I love the tropical look...and don't mind spending (on tropicals/annuals) whereas my DH tempers that with practicality (dollar and effort-wise) leaning towards evergreens and non-invasives. Do you have a particular interest or expertise?
hello everyone!
look who has surfaced!!
feeling quite good these days and feel on the mend. as always there are things going on in life but i putter along. haveh ad no news from my sister except i have heard its further spread than they thought and she is now on chemo. i have tried to make contact but she is not interested. but thats ok. i am fine with that.
mygrandkids are doing well and i see them from time to time. thngs have settled at work and the boss is away for amonth!! woohoo....
we havnt gone into recievership yet as we are hanging in and may be able to get through. DH got a promotion which has helped but we will see.
im doing better on the meds and have less and less 'down time' which is good.
I hope u havnt all forgotten me as its been so long, but ido ry and read at the very least and keep caught up.
i read all about your snow while i swealter here in high temps!! lol
well hugs to u all...
xx
Tears in my eye and falling as I type!,Gita I'm sorry that you and perhaps others have thought this thread was nothing but idle chit chat and no longer wish to post..
Although JUST chit chat as I've said before it has filled a void for many, those who post and those that come in from time to time lurking..
This thread has always been open to all, arms extended with love and affection..to you 4004 a special welcome on this day...I hope you will visit often and come to love these ladies as I have...
The purpose really of this thread was not the excitement of ear marking days although we love to hear about those but everyday life..
Through this idle chit chat I've seen much hurt in peoples lives, I hope we have extended a lifeline during these times..
This month many of us are housebound either due to health or weather..some not seeing the human race for days on end...how wonderful to come and chat even if it's simply a breadmaker
AnnMarie 'sweetie' you've brought nothing but joy on this thread..it warms my heart that you have joined us as do the others... p.s. breadmaker is a West Bend!
I've learned so much over these past almost 80 threads, so much so I've even taken up cooking (partly to you Gita) with your urging me to watch my eating habits due to my health...
Those who have dropped off wether it be for constant chit chat which they found annoying or a busy schedule, probably not a day goes by I don't think about them and pray they are well..
Extended families I always call you..
Am I or any of you who post just a lonely soul..I think not, I think we've hearts as big as they come, always a kind word, always time for someone in need and always time to meet a new friend..this I believe more than anything...humans need humans..
Oh we can talk about politics/religion or the economy from time to time, but you know, it's nice just to welcome you into my home, without the pressures of the day..
Most of you know I work and have at least 7 hrs. a day to fill..omg what would I do without you all...
Soon we'll be talking about our gardens, getting ideas from each other, learning and Gita your time on this thread was certainly making us knowledgeable about gardening...
I will not comment a lot on your not wanting to post here any longer, I wish you the best with those you have in common..but I will say that it is a sad day when one has too many friends that they must move on from some who love them...
To all others, I will continue my idle chit chat, if you notice mostly it is I who do so.. I sit here wondering if we only posted things of great interest how many posts there would be on any thread...
Lots to do before I start my day..
I hope from time to time those who have felt this thread had no purpose will still drop in with a 'hi' only...
I wish you well Gita.
I have enjoyed your posts..I have learned from you. You had some very informative things to say.
I also loved learning about your homeland and your family through your photos and stories.
Stay well and happy..
Cheers,
Carol
Thought I'd share what I received this morning from my girlfriend Liz in Ireland.. not a day goes by we don't talk...
I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I've aged, I've become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I've become my own friend. I don't chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn't need, but looks so avante garde on my patio. I am entitled to a treat, to be messy, to be extravagant.
I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon, before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging.
Whose business is it if I choose to read or play on the computer until 4 AM and sleep until noon? I will dance with myself to those wonderful tunes of the 60's & 70's, and if I, at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love ... I will.
I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose to, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. They, too, will get old.
I know I am sometimes forgetful. But there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. And I eventually remember the important things.
Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one, or when a child suffers, or even when somebody's beloved pet gets hit by a car? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect.
I am so blessed to have lived long enough to have my hair turning gray, and to have my youthful laughs be forever etched into deep grooves on my face. So many have never laughed, and so many have died before their hair could turn silver.
As you get older, it is easier to be positive. You care less about what other people think. I don't question myself anymore. I've even earned the right to be wrong.
So, to answer your question, I like being old. It has set me free. I like the person I have become. I am not going to live forever, but while I am still here, I will not waste time lamenting what could have been, or worrying about what will be. And I shall eat dessert every single day (if I feel like it).
MAY OUR FRIENDSHIP NEVER COME APART, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART!
MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE A RAINBOW OF SMILES ON YOUR FACE AND IN YOUR HEART FOREVER AND EVER!
FRIENDS FOREVER!
Well, I have been a lurker for a long time. I am an older person. Did I say that (older person) word. Lol
I lost my husband last year. We had been married 56 years. I miss him so much.
Anyway, I wanted to say I have enjoyed this thread, get lots of information, things to think about and smiles from reading it. I know you don't know me but I feel like I know some of you.
Sending Hugs.
Wow, that is powerful, a great poem Betty.
4004 I have never seen you on the Midsouth Forum. You should go visit us over there too, lots of people live in Louisiana's 8b over there. But stay here too lol!
Laura? That's your name, right? I'm having a huge brain fart right now. I am so glad you are doing better and I want some of your heat, not all of it though. Looks like another nice but breezy day here. I have to get my car in the shop today at 2, it's 13,000 miles over the normal 3,000 for an oil change, plus it's pulling real hard to the left and the tire light is on. Then I have to get Tide and Downey, I'm almost out. Other than that, I don't think I'm going to be doing much of anything on this holiday ^_^
You know, we are just one big happy family! I visit some other threads that are just chit chat too, and I love them all, but of course I'm Chatty Kathy anyway lol!
Christine
Aren't we all Chatty Cathy's Crissy...you know, when I was about what 8 or 9, that's when Chatty Cathy first came out, my goodness that's a long time ago..on my christmas list she was my only 'want'..just loved her to death..they've come a long way with toys haven't they..the next doll don't quite remember her name, you could feed her and she'd poop..lol...so long ago ..wasn't very sanitary was it? can't recall how it was done..
