I'm reading your poast Janice, but you know I'm of no help. Marion, Jaye or Debra or others will have to help you. I can, though, wish you the best of luck in finding exactly what you need. Oh, and I want to say thank you again for the ruler board and flat ruler. Sure comes in handy!

I can't help either, I've never owned a sewing machine. Ya'll can tell what I don't do! I know Singer used to be the best brand but that was a long time ago. I'd like to know for myself in case I decide to take up sewing at some point in time here pretty soon.

Janice, I have a commercial sewing machine, but it has been packed away for years. It just takes up too much space, so I went out several years ago, and just bought a singer from Wal Mart for like $150.00, and it does all you want it to for your basic sewing. Now if you want it to do heavy things like several layers of denim, it will not do that, but it does very well, for crafting, and curtians, and even your rag purse I made, and that has several layers to it.
That is my opinion.

Here is what I have and I love it!!! You never have to oil it. It has a built in self oiling thingie.
i paid 1500 for it in "95" I just saw one for $500 but it was sold

Cindy, that looks like it can do alot of different things. Where did you see one for $500.00?

I still say a Kenmore is your best bet. A good all purpose machine with several different stitches and will do all the things you want to do and more. Cheaper than a Pfaff, too! Made for Sears, I've had mine for over 20 years, and it's been in the shop once. Cost me $15.00 and they cleaned it! I could have done that!!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Here but it's sold. It has 245 different stitches. It makes butterflies, birds, flowers pix below

wow that looks complicated to me.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

What my machine? Not at all. Just push buttons.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

But I'd have aproblem knowing which one to push when. :(

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Marion, that’s part of what I’m doing, going through the boxes that didn’t get unpacked last time we moved and seeing if we still need what’s in them. So much stuff got shoved in unmarked boxes :o( we just couldn't figure out where the stuff we wanted was without unpacking everything and I have too much stuff. This time I'm going to try hard to get everything labeled.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

LOL, this machine is so easy to work with a child can do it. And to make button holes, attach the foot then insert the button in a place on the foot and sew. It will go up one side tack down the other side tack and done, no mark how long to make the whole

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

If nothing else, label the boxes by rooms. At least you'll have an idea where the stuff goes. Sounds like you may have the makings for a moving yard sale too. You know what they say, If you haven't used it in two years, sell it.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Each button does 3 different stitches. I can straight stitch, then switch to zigzag just buy pushing a button. You don't have any special dealy gagets to deal with

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm still using the 'how to' book that came with my machine. After I finish the drawers project for Larry I'll tackle a quilt.

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

That's what I meant by label, either room or items if they don't necessarily have a specific room, like wrapping paper.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Cindy, do you sew for the public?

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

That is what i keep telling Rick ugh!!! You ought to see the stuff he hangs onto. A kitchen table and chairs that are so outdated he thinks he can sell for $40 i wouldn't pay $5 for it, lol and Dish receivers why they are out dated....

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Getting a new house is fun to decorate after the initial shock of the move itself is over.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

No, but I have made 3 wedding dresses, Santa suit, lots of baby clothes, LOTS of Barbie dolls clothes, doll clothes, Halloween costumes

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I have just had time to skim through quickly.....

Joyce, I am so jealous........I wish Laura and I could afford to go BJ's in May. That is going to be soooo much fun! The only time I have gotten back to that part of the country in the past 10 years is for funerals, and then my Mom bought the tickets......

Where is Jaye!!!!!!!! LOOK What I got for 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jaye hasn't posted since she started this room. Something to do with emergency doctor's visit. I'm a little worried about her. Has anyone tried calling her. Well it is late on their side of the US. Maybe we'll hear something in the morning

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Cindy, some of the frogs are still misdirected...

Coushatta, LA

Hello ladies just dropping in to say hello to everyone.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Yea I know that Laura, what is it that you are trying to tell me? I'm just asking your mom if she saw what I received.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I did see those Cindy, they are really cute!!! Due to a mix up of some sort in that swap Laura is still waiting to see who ended up with hers.....it is one she made herself and did a fantastic job....we just don't know where it is ending up...a lot of confusion......mine hasn't shown up yet......between the USPS and US Customs.....I'll stop with that....don't want to get me ging on the subject right now.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Doesn't she know who she sent it to? I know that Clan Campbell may have gotten 2.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Hello Cody, Good luck Laura with the labeling also. I opened one box marked "kitchen" right after I moved only to discover the trash from our dinner the night before we left with the moving van. Talk about a surprise!!! Smelly too.

Deborah, sistah, I am so proud of you making Larry shorts. ROFLOL I just hope he likes them. Sorry I couldn't come help pull grass today but I have been "captured" by the telephone and vendors--getting that time now.

I, too, am getting really concerned about Jaye. Please, someone check in and let us know what is happening. It may not necessarily be Jaye, you know. Sitting here hoping and saying prayers.

Hi right back at you Cody. What you doing today?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm worried about Jaye too. Been thinking about her every day.

Well, I worked 30 minutes late until 5, got home just before 6, Dave had dinner prepped I just had to cook it, right when it got done around 6:45 he got up, we ate, watched Extra for a bit, then watched Intervention, then he got in the shower, got ready, and went to work. That is usually my eventful evening. I'm thinking about going to bed myself.

Hhhmmmmmm C-30 planes and military helicopters have been flying over the house every night now for about a week, and they fly Very low. Wonder if they're staking out a pot farm or something around here. Here they come again... This time it's the helicopters.
