Then came in the Cardinal Killer! I want a gun.
Todays Weather in Your Garden - 36
Do you want the Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle?
You'll shoot your eye out!!
Nope.....a 25.06 with a Zeiss scope so you don't miss.
But I wouldn't shoot emm....he's just doing his job in the food chain. Even if we don't like his choice of meal, he's still gotta eat!
schickenlady, I love hawks and cardinals too. To give the little guys a better chance against the hawks at a feeder put an old Christmas tree in the ground next to the feeder so the feeding birds can have some instant shelter to quickly hid in. We often use to collect a few Christmas trees from friends to make a little winter thicket behind our pole feeders so we could see the birds feeding and they had shelter from the weather and prey. When spring came we tossed the dead trees in the pruning burn pile, but it was amazing how long they stayed green. We now only feed with tree hung feeders which are more protected so we haven't done the made a Christmas tree thicket for a few years as we started having varment trouble with the ground feeding near the house. Welcome home, Patti. Snowing here. About 1 1/2 inches so far. Hope my wife makes it home okay. She is getting out early. 25 degrees.
Pixie, Good idea. Really snowing now. DH just went to the grocery store. We are going to hunker down too.
"Snow this morning...Then snow and rain this afternoon. Snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches. Very windy with highs in the mid 30s. East winds 20 to 25 mph...Increasing to northeast 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 55 mph this afternoon. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent"
Victor, Hope she gets out earlier. I am the worse snow driver. I have a great knack for doing everything wrong when I start to skid. She is safe from me today. Patti
It's been snowing since 8 am - we already have about six inches. Maybe this snow will stick around to insulate the plants.
Glad we flew into Hartford yesterday and not today. We are have only an inch on the ground so far as it is blowing sideways. Patti
You did come in on the right day, Patti---I'm sure the flight would be delayed today---we have 5-6 out there now, & it's still snowing & blowing--- whiteout when it does blow--that's what scares me. Hope your wife is home, Victor. My DS has an hour (in good weather) commute--today I have no idea when he'll get to the farm.
Still snowing here. My wife is en route now.
Snowing it's head off out there today since 9:30 this morning! White-out conditions. Stay off the roads. Don't go out unless it absolutely necessary. I went out earlier for brunch and had to drive really slow.
Sherrie, I don't usually wish to shoot the hawks, but I do usually wish to shoot the deer here. They eat too many of my plants.
Karen
Wife just got in. She said some of the roads were pretty bad. Plows not keeping up.
Hey Victor, glad your wife made it home safely. :) The front blew through here with a lot of wind but not much snow. I was in eastern MA just before xmas for the 48-hour-snowfest. Couldn't drive anywhere for a couple of days but the boy (3.5 years old) just LOVED it...had to carry him inside to warm him up! :)
Blowing hard with a mix of snow and rain. Victor, Glad your wife is home. Icky weather. Patti
Thanks, ladies. Snow is finished but the wind is really whipping!
Victor enjoys a good whipping now and then. :) :P
How'd you know?!
Wind chills below zero predicted for the idiots - er, revelers, in Times Square tonight.
Glad everyone made it safely home!
Tonight's countdown will go: 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 1 - Happy New Year!!??!!
Hey Victor, I know your type. :) :P
Yes, I heard about the extra second thing, are they really going to go 4-3-2-1-1-HNY??? That would be weird.
15 and still dropping. Wind chills are below zero. Cold start to the new year!
21 F with a wind chill of 10 F and dropping here. Think I'll welcome the new year snuggled under a bunch of blankets!
Good one, Phuggins! Victor, glad your wife is safe.
Karen
We are 10 degree's but w/windchill at -6 right now. Tomorrows high with w/w.chill will be -15 , low -29. Freezing way to start the New Year!
That is too cold, Celeste. Our wind chill will be below zero as well. I think I'll stay home tomorrow in the toasty, warm house.
Karen
Now 23 with some pretty good gusts near 50mph.
DH stuffed and roasted a big chicken and all the fixing's and a huge chocolate chip cheese cake so I don't care what happens with the weather for the next day or so! We have the wood stove cranked up, so we are all cozy and ready to celebrate the coming New Year by most likely going to bed early after a great dinner. Must be my old age. Ring it in for me to those who stay up. Best to all, blooms galore, no weeds and some spare cash to be found by everyone for more plants! Patti

15 and very bright (snow reflection!) At least the wind has died down.
Very cold here, 16, with an expected high of 21. Windy at 25-35 mph, gusting occasionally to 40 mph. Wind chill I expect is below zero. Coooooold!
I think I'll start a fire in the wood stove and make some cookies.
Karen
Cold, but bright. 21 degrees, wind at 25mph so the windchill is -3. Not going out. But we got little snow, just a covering, as it all blew off the Island. WNYwillieB, no boating today!
A group of young NYC friends are using our Vt house for a few days and they all bravely went up to ski this morning, but thought it was way too cold and windy at Stratton, so they headed back to find that the pipes in our back laundry room were frozen. But it is a simple fix. I had them turn on the dryer which heats up the pipe that freezes. We drain that room when we aren't up there. I am glad they are there while it is so cold. It is 14 degrees now up there now with the wind only at 4mph. It is about 5 at Stratton with windchill at -13. Not good skiing weather.
My greenhouse is 78 degrees now. Picture taken yesterday with the Jades in bloom. I still have one for Victor.
Happy New Year all. Patti
