Todays Weather in Your Garden - 35

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Kassia! Hello! I hadn't heard from you in a while. Glad that you're OK
Yeah, it's white-out conditions here right now. Can barely see the neighbors' homes, and some of you know that the neighbors are pretty close.

Has anyone heard from Boojum?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow, JoAnn, what an ordeal for your DD and GD. Glad they are safe. I see they are enjoying the hot tub. Much needed relaxation.

I love snow, but I hate when it gets wet and mixed with rain, then turns to ice. I really hate that. We got quite a bit of snow in the morning, and now it looks like it's raining out there. Yuck!

I have not heard from Boojum in awhile. Hope she is okay.

Karen

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Same here ....white out conditions, getting about an inch an hour.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The sun comes back tomorrow

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
I love ya! Tomorrow!
You're only a day away!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Temp is right at freezing. The snow dropped another 4-5 inches and has now turned to rain. Went out to shovel the steps and paths again. The snow was heavy stuff to begin with but now is sopping up the rain and weighs a ton. Still waiting for the gusty winds to bring the big chill down later this evening so everything will turn to ice.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

ngam ~

You really want ice? (shudder)

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Don't want ice! No!!!!! Don't have a choice, do I.

Karen - very nice photos of your pretty lighting. I enjoyed seeing your pics!! Tell your sister she did a great job!

Adorable snowman, Victor!

JoAnn - what a frightening situation with your DGD. I'm so glad everything turned out ok!

Just turned off the a/c......nice cool temps again.....missing the snow! Happy Solstice to you all. Hank calls it the first day of spring instead of winter because every day will now begin to get longer and longer. LOL

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

It's the most hopefull day of the year in my book.

Never heard of a snow devil. What is it.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Hope everyone is safe and warm! I see some areas were hit with some pretty serious snowfall amounts. On top of what they are already dealing with!

Seems we got rooked on the snowfall total for yesterday, only 11.3 inches. It did break a record standing since 1914 when only 4 inches fell. The wind speed, 36 mph, and gusting winds up to 50 mph, made for some serious drifting.

We call this a "Near Blizzard" around here, as all the conditions for a true blizzard have been met except for the duration factor, I think. (Sustained 35 mph winds which lead to blowing snow and cause visibilities of ¼ mile or less, lasting for at least 3 hours)

All the WNY schools are closed today, and our stretch of the thruway (I-90) was closed for several hours, but now back open.

The snow band has moved off to the southtowns for the day. Small amounts of sun occasionally break through the clouds. More snow expected later, but 42ºF and rain expected Wednesday.

Lake Erie is 36ºF and Lake Ontario is 38ºF, keeping the Lake Effect Snow Machine alive.

Sunrise: 7:44

Light snow, 12ºF (feels like -5º) ; High, 20ºF ; Low, 16ºF
Wind: 20 mph, direction WSW
Pressure: 29.97 in, rising
Humidity: 82%, Dew point: 9ºF
Visibility: 5.0 mi, UV-index: 0, Low

Sunset: 16:44

Well blue skies and a lot of white poofy stuff. That devil is calling. Starting 3 days making stuffed shells. My little Christmas giving ...........

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

All the way up to 10 now! Was 8 when I woke up.

Well my little guy was generous enough to give me his stomach virus. Lived near the bowl last night and got absolutely no sleep. To boot, my older guy is home today with step! I hope my wife manages to avoid the bug. Nothing worse than being sick during the holidays.

Thomaston, CT

Oh, no, Victor---so sorry about you & your family! Hope everyone is fine for Christmas! It was 10 here an hour ago--going up to 20 today---Willie, sounds like your weather is a rollercoaster, too! Well, we sold our FL home---it's been for sale 21 months, & it sells the week before we were planning to go down. I'm sad to see it go, but with DH's health so precarious, it's a blessing as well.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Hope you all feel better soon Victor!! We got a good amount of snow, spent most of the morning digging off the 2 decks.
Last night we did have Blizzard warnings for approx. 8 hours, it was terrible and the road was not visible. Very very dangerous...I was worried about the bunnies and other such critters. I can't even talk about the homeless.....sends me onto tears. We still are in the warning zone due to the artic winds gusting every chance they get. It's miserable out there, not fit for man nor beast.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Oh poor Victor. Hope everyone recovers for the holiday celebration. Feel better soon.
It is a balmy 14° now with a 20-30 mph wind that makes it feel around zero. Everything is frozen solid and waiting for the warm up predicted for mid week to get rid of some of this ice and snow.
Sounds like Me. got the worst of the last storm. Stay warm and cozy inside if you can. I heard some place up in Me. got over 40" of the white stuff.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sherrie, you ever seen a movie or a documentary that takes place in the desert and they have dust/sand devils? Little whirls of sand whipped up like mini tornados.....thats what the snow is doing out in the field. I can see the snow ripple and move across the surface until it becomes a circular motion and then lifts off the ground. It's kind of neat but I also know how bitterly cold it has to be to do that.

Not a good shot.....

I know ripples happen snow/sand, but never knew it to be a devil. All though I have other words for them.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Victor--feel better soon--your wit helps me get through the day.
Robin--Congratulations on the sale of your house--but I'm sorry for your loss :-((
Pixie--Great pic, snow devils take many forms--LOL
ngam--bbrrrrrrrrr! Stay safe and warm!
I've had more than enough of winter already! The good news is today will be longer than yesterday!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Rats, Victor! Sorry to hear that you caught the bug and that your son is also sick now. Feel better soon! Bad timing, but maybe you'll be over it by Christmas!

Marilynn - Congrats on selling your Fla. house. I can imagine how you must have mixed feelings. Sorry you didn't get to come down!

Pixie - sounds pretty treacherous there........be sure to give us a Bubbles/Babies report when you see them! Stay safe and warm!

Willie - It sounds pretty wintery where you are too! Hope you also stay warm and safe!

We have a roaring fire going in our fireplace tonight......love these cool nights here; it makes it so much more Christmasy, if you catch my drift (no pun intended for those of you with bigtime drifts!) LOL

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)
