haha... most people wonder that Bill! This time of year, I don't usually get home from work until 11pm or so. Sometimes as late as 1 am. I tend to keep the routine even on my days off. I'm always really groggy when I switch back to my summer work schedule, but I love that schedule. I bet that Hickory is doing wonderful things to the chain. However, it will be worth it in the end. It's Hickory! The closest that i've cut over the way is either madrone or locust. I spend a lot of time talking to those about what they're doing to the chain. Over here people would pay top dollar for Hickory wood. The only place you'll find a hickory is in someones yard. It will be puny and only 5' tall too. Maybe there's a saw shop nearby that will sharpen it on grinder? To me that's about the best $10 ever spent for a newly sharpened chain. Saws work just dandy in the rain, usually it's the operators gloves that are the problem :-p How was the last night (hopefully) at the Marriot?
Garden Photos - Part 46
I agree, it's 14deg. here. at the moment. "just deal with it" has been my motto for the last few days.
Nice shots, Shelly. Love the sky shots. The holly is China Girl.
Great shots all. Red birds and berries, snow scenes and one wayward moth, just beautiful every one.
Joann-awesome painting.
Great shots Shelly
I'll take some of that snow, I LOVE snow, too bad hubby doesn't.
When I enlarged the hydrangea pic I was blown away by the moth there. Also love the snow scene with the old brown school. It IS a postcard pic.
Very nice, Sharon. The snow makes a nice backdrop - especially when it's not here!
I think it was an accidental spill, Victor...on its way up to you.
Very beautiful. We've had lots of cold, lots of rain and lots of fog. I see posters are happy for whatever the weather is, as long as there is no snow. Snow here is like a free trip to Disneyworld. I'd like to not be freezing cold, foggy and dark at five-thirty with no fringe benefits (a little snow). If snow is a bad thing, please don't throw balls in my direction.
Laurel
Evie, nice pics, and yes, the garden does look more interesting in winter if you leave it "as is". Nice when it snows. I like the natural look. Makes for great photos.
Shelly, wow! Gorgeous shot of that scenic view with the school house! Nice pastel colors. I had to save that one. I also love the shot with the little butterfly on the hydrangea flowers. Looks pretty well focused to me.
Karen
That looks like a rhododendrum of some type.
OK DH looked up &it is listed as an australian laurel in Hortus 3rd.
ge1836, the common name I believe is Mock Orange. By the way, I meant to say how much I loved your painting. I just love the depth of those colors. I would think a frozen pond would be a tricky scene to capture but you did it beautifully.
evie_beevie, that "mess on purpose" comment really cracked me up. Thanks I needed that today!
redchic, you've been on a roll with some very lovely pictures lately. Please keep 'em coming.
or Japanese Cheesewood.
Thanks to All. I'm glad that you all liked those pictures. Every time that I drive by that old school i'm always amazed that it still stands.
Thanks for the name Victor. I've never seen a 'china girl' that's old enough to produce many berries. There really is a Holly called 'Festive', but I've never seen it before.... I don't think so anyhow.
Jan, aren't you glad that you didn't teach at a school like that! The teacher lived with the family who owns the land that the school sits on.
Jo Ann, the only names that I've heard for pittosporum are what is mentioned above: Japanese mock orange and cheesewood. But, I don't think that either of them are commonly used. I think just pittosporum.
Karen, if you want I'll gladly send you the full size picture.
Dyan, that roll ended today. I tried to take more pictures around here. I went out for a while and stayed out until I was becoming a popcicle. When I came back in and put them on the computer, i realized that I had taken most of the pictures with the camera on the wrong setting. very frustrating I think that maybe 6 out of 30 were just ok. Although, I have realized that whenever there is snow here (I'm the house/pet sitter here) that the sunsets are usually pink. No snow = the usual sunset colors. Makes for some pretty sunsets, if you want to be a human popcicle!!
Robin, I have the same, exact, sentiments towards snow!!!
Sharran, I love the birds! That cardinal (I think that's what it is) is beautiful. I don't think that we have red cardinals out here, at least not that i've ever seen. I've only seen them books. So I think that they're just amazing to see in peoples' yards. Do you sleep more than two hours a day? :-p
Dyan, I forgot to mention that I think that australian laurel sounds much better than 'cheesewood!'

Just now winding down, Shelly!!
Glad you liked the cardinal!
Me too. You are definitely going to have me beat for the latest up tonight. I'm actually starting to fade out now.
Hey happy greams RC
Dyane thanks,I will conquer the ice painting thing. Since no one will know what I was going for I'll just not mention wgat it started out to be.
Cheeswood would be a good title for thre piece or Laurel or Pittisporum. It will be awhile befor I get to that.
This seems to be the insomniac thread!
I AM glad I that I taught at a school that had indoor plumbing. LOL. But the location of that school is beautiful.
I just had an image of you as a popsicle with your camera 'frozen' in your hands aimed at a sunset. :)
Very nice shots Victor. The crape seed one reminds me of those glass paper weights with the colored glass globes and bubbles inside.
Thanks. It's amazing how they get completely encapsulated like that.
Nice shots everyone. RC, your pic in post 5889936 looks like another subject for Jo Ann. Beautiful artwork Jo Ann. I wish I had a bit more disposable income to get Victor's pond in my house.
so beautiful Victor
Thank you Allison.
Ditto to everything Weezer said.
Very nice shots, Victor. I love the shot of the ice covered grass.
Shelly, I would love to have the full-sized picture. I sent you a D-mail with my personal e-mail address. Thanks!
Karen
Wow - you all have been busy. I've been trying to catch up.
Redchic I love the old school house photo! Breathtaking!
GE your paintings always amaze me. I could see you painting the snow laden hydrangeas too.
I have to share my latest excitement.......my new niece.
