yummy will try that. Wonder if it could be a pie for Christmas and not tell anyone what it is made from. I like to do that to my family, call it butter scotch pie. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA my zip is in there.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

What is milnot?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

I will try it once anyone have a good recipe for them OH whispers at Robyn. Recipe for tamales. Would have to buy a steamer right??????

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

evaporated milk Milnot is the name brand.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Yep, the grocery store here has a whole section for everything you need to make tamales. The steamer is the size of a small garbage can. That's what I thight it was at first.

Why is it that they only make tamales at Christmas time? A guy was riding with Rick and he said that his girlfriend and mother were getting ready to make them and he said they only make them this time of year. I would make them all year around.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

maybe because it is an assembly line type thing to do and they freeze well? I googled them and found one that doesnt sound to hard. But it uses mesa and I would like to find one that uses already made corn tortillas. Hey short cuts cant be all that bad.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Look a new way to get the etched look

Ok, here it is... my first plant id stake inspired by Cindy... this was sooo fun to make... but I can see from the pic that I didn't do a very good polish job. I couldn't polish him with the grinder wheel, had to do it by hand... guess I got in a hurry.

Also, I wanted to put the plant name sign under his wing like he's holding it... but then it would be sideways... so, had to settle with this.

Tia I cant offer much help but the 5 bite thing will work .. I myself am still a very verty picky eater and no amount of money or bribes can get me to eat what I know I dont want.. I hope your little one is easier to get through to than I am.. Both of my kids eat pretty much everything as well as Max but I make little things for me if I dont want what I am cooking for dinner. I remember Tony once refused to try cantelope (I dont like it either) but he agreed to eat it only if he could dip it in ketchup,,, YUCK but he loved it.....

Bj now that is sooo cute.. I cant believe you made that out of clay! What a wonderful little bird to have in your gardens...

I got my special 2009 Swap Box today.. Am I allowed to talk about it yet??? I LOVE IT!

( Kim) Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks Cindy My head hurt so I needed a good laugh I feel better now
When I saw the Navy Bean Pulp the Navy base came to me I had worked construction for about a year. And you see the guys and girls every day Marching and than when they first wood start they were skinny little thing by the end of 6 weeks They were Big and strong. I work a year and never got Big must have walked the building dozens of times a day. We had built a Ship inside a building It a Virturality Ship where If on a Navy ship out on the sea and a Bomb went off they see what happen or a firer also had a mote around the ship had to climb a ladder to get down there to clean If I can get my scaner to work I will show picture I Think that it has been on the History Channel

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Forgot to mention. I did talk to Punk boy and "told" him that we got new rules here. he is going to try to eat things that Nanna fixes, he commenced to tell me that he will eat everything I fix......................... that he likes. Ok we are gonna work on it. I think one new thing a week to start out with. So to the grocery store we go tomorrow. I can make the chicken strips that are not packaged, and homemade mac and cheese. I will try to get him to at least eat fresh fruit and fresh veggies.

EWWWWWWWW cantaloupe with catchup,

I forgot he loves breakfast just no fried taters or hash browns. Pancakes all the way.

Maybe its just me, I want to eat stew, soup, mashed potatoes, I guess I can mix it all so we can all have something we like.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

What you got your 2009 swap gift! It was not suppose to be mailed out until the 15th. Somebody goofed big time!!!!

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

I use a roasting pan for steaming and you only have to steam them if you are using the flour. You could use the tortillas but they might be hard to keep closed. If you really want to do easy grind your meat add a sauce to it and stuff the tortillas. You can use an Enchilada sauce from a can.

I cook peppers with a small amount of tomatoes or tomato sauce and make my sauce. Add that to ground or pulled pork, beef or chicken. Make my tamale dough from the Mesa and spread it on corn husks. Wrap and steam. Put your tamales on a rack in a roasting pan with water in the bottom. Steam for an hour. Instead of corn husks, you can use foil. and instead of Mesa use regular unbleached flour.

That would be pretty cool Kim to see that ship.

Love the birdie. He's a keeper, what kind of cage are you going to sit him in?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

I have been reading up on tamales. I think we are gonna try it this week. Of course while Punk is at school. I think we will do it with the mesa. The wrapping part is what gets me, I think I can figure it out. I thought it was rolled like you would an enchilada but not looking like that from what I have read.

No sauce inside the tamale, save sauce for the toppings.

I found a recipe for sweet corn and cheese tamale, I would like that one.

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

You need a little sauce on the inside to keep the meat moist.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

yea I can see how that would help, thanks

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Kim, I just covered an old glass ornament with polymer clay, then put a face, tail and wings on it... bake, sand and polish it... then I glued a bamboo stick on the bottom in the hole where the hanger used to be... and walah !!!
I'm making a bee now... we'll see how this one turns out... LOL...

I love the hot tamales that my DIL gets from the place down the street from her... a lady has a kitchen in an out building by her house... she only takes orders, and doesn't have a dining room... the best tamales I've ever put in my mouth... they buy them by the dozens when they get them...

Myrtle Beach, SC(Zone 8b)

Hey Jaye...Why would someone be scared if they received a package from Myrtle Beach SC???

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

We need Jaye, she is the hostess of the 2009 swap. I'm sure it will be fine. Do you live in a small town? Is that why your mail is slow thru the holidays? How far are you from Ashburn, VA

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

She has cooked up a game to play after we receive our package.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes a small town but it is the post office that is hard... It is always mobbed and it is getting worse everyday as the holiday gets closer....
Oh Wait... I forgot to say My zip code is up above...yeahhhhh I can't wait....
Hugs,
Susan

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

I hope I get an elf hat ^_^ I like making things ^_^

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Okay, lots of catching up to do here! First, Jaye, whaaat? I'm on your list? I'm brand new and wouldn't have expected to be, but thank you in advance. What a lovely group.

BJ, I LOVE that birdie! Well done!

Tia, since every grandson loves his Grandma's cooking (Unless Grandma has to be Momma too, and enforce rules)... why don't you try getting him to cook with you, start with something he's sure to like, but add in a special ingredient, and tell him this is what makes it extra good. Like oatmeal cookies (oatmeal, special ingredient, but good for him, will make him strong for wrestling!). Or a pizza with veggies, or, special homemade burgers (you can control the fat), or fajitas (add lots of veggies, peppers and onions, lettuce, tomatot)...anything. Get him involved. My son (now 27) loved to help me cook and bake when he was younger, he is very careful about what he chooses to eat now. Make it a fun learning experience, kids love to learn! Hope that helps! (BTW, you can tell him there are lots of famous chefs, mostly male (which is wrong, but oh well)... you can even show him some of those chefs on TV. Or, maybe ask him what he would like to learn to make with you at home, then make it healthy. You can make almost anything healthy... unless it's deep fried. Hope that helps.

Now I forget everything else I wanted to respond to, but brain is getting tired. Oh, wait... brain kicking back in.. scroll down on this thread for something else to do with lightbulbs (from one of my favorite friends on SW Gardening forum)... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/928716/

Debra, did you find your dress?

Oh, and the other thing, Tia, any progress on finding out who vandalized your property? Sending you good thoughts...

Brenda

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

She can send me a witches hat and I would be happy.... Does nottake much to please me...LOL Ok Donna I can't watch movie and type so just tell me did your present get broke in the mail????
Huggers,
Susan

Lancaster, OH(Zone 6a)

It arrived safely Susan... I will await to her about our little game...

Personally If I recived one from SC I would start reading emails going now who sent me something...lol

Ferndale, AR(Zone 7b)

Jaye, do we have another sister in Arkansas? Zip code 72112 is listed - that's Newport, AR. My zip code is 72122 - was it meant to be mine?

BJ, that is so cute! You amaze me with your polymer clay projects.

Bad day today - don't know what's going on but it's like my head is not attached to my body. Serious short term memory issues. Not sure I could have recited the alphabet if asked. I screwed up every time I turned around at work today - NOT GOOD! We are testing senior pharmacy students. Back at it tomorrow am at 7:30. MUST have a better day. It was scary weird today. Thought I was going to get lost on my way to the ladies room - have only been there about a million times. Off to bed - early morning. I'm off Wednesday so will be back then.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Did you like what I sent to you? I truley hope so as it was special to me....
Hugs,
Turtle who is hiding her head inside the shell in case I am in trouble for sending to early.... Tell me when I can come out of my shell ^_^

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I've been really busy, haven't had the kids much, and otherwise kept from getting online. Nothings wrong just away from the computer. I don't really have time to catch up so I'm just jumping back in. Let me know if there is anything I need to know about that I missed.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Brenda I have not even thought about him helping me, I did with the "girls" i guess because he is a boy I didnt think about that. Please I know, I was putting him in that category. My brother is a self taught cook and a fine one at that. Please forgive me. I will try that with him. Oatmeal is good for him, we can make a treat that is healthy and he will like it.

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Laura, there's a new craft for yard/garden art using light bulbs. I think Cindy purpbutfy has the instructions and a picture of one on this thread.

Sistahs, thanks to so many of you for making it possible for me to go and see my mama. Larry and I leave on Friday! Yipee!
